Because I am pregnant, and I was tired of looking at the piles of laundry that I have to do, and because my daughter has three weeks off for spring break this year, and it's been a very long winter, and...I could go on. To make it short, (I know, too late!) I had a good case of the travel bug, which is something I get quite often, and wanted to go somewhere. So, after some consultation with the rest of the family, we decided to go to Venice.

Living in Switzerland, we are very lucky that many places are close by. We can take long weekends and travel to places that makes it sound as if we are posh when really, they are just a relatively short drive away. We drove to Venice from Zurich, which was about a 6 hours, and spent four days there.

The weather was great and even though my husband and I have been there before, it was the first time for our daughter. We were excited to show her the things that we remembered and loved about Venice. She didn't love everything, but did enjoy most things. She is still asking us when we can move to Venice.

Venice Hotel - The Centurion Palace

We stayed at a lovely hotel in Venice called the Centurion Palace. We found it on Trip Advisor and were so glad that we did. We were looking for something nice, but a little bit out of the ordinary. We had been to Venice before and were though that some of the hotels we looked at online, although more popular on Trip Advisor, were either too regular, looked too small, or had the feeling of being stuffy. The Centurion Palace was everything we were searching for. It just recently opened and we were able to get a good deal on the room rate since they were having special opening rates. And because it had just opened, we knew that the rooms would be updated with all of the amenities that we are used to like Wi-Fi, ipod charger, etc. We booked a regular superior room and were upgraded to a junior suite with a Grand Canal view when we arrived. It was awesome! The ceilings are all double height and you walk into the room just saying "wow".
