All the four cheapest cities have retained their positions from the previous year's list. Asian and Middle Eastern cities dominate the list of the world's ten cheapest cities, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's bi-annual cost of living report.Karachi in Pakistan has been named as the cheapest destination globally.It's an interesting result, especially considering that half of the world's ten most expensive cities are also in the Asia Pacific region—Tokyo and Singapore.

The numbers in the list below represent the cities' respective world cost of living indices, calculated in relation to New York's, set at 100. After Karachi, Mumbai, Tehran and New Delhi, the report has named Muscat, Dhaka, Algiers, Kathmandu, Panama City and Jeddah among the least expensive cities.

Falling rents, tame inflation figures and a relatively stronger US dollar have pushed UAE cities Dubai and Abu Dhabi among one of the cheapest cities in the world, a new study has revealed.

The main reason behind low cost of living in the Middle Eastern cities was the use of price controls and the pegging of currencies to the US dollar, the report said. "Although Asian hubs are making their presence felt at the top of the cost of living stakes, another kind of Asian hub is making its presence felt at the bottom, EIU said."With cheap labour and land costs making India and Pakistan incredibly attractive to those bargain hungry visitors or investors willing to brave some of the security risks that accompany such low prices, especially in Pakistan," it added.

A high rate of inflation may be pinching hard on day-to-day life of people in the country, but a global survey has named two Indian cities – the financial hub Mumbai and the national capital New Delhi – among the four least expensive places across the world. The 2012 Cost of Living survey published twice a year by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) shows the 10 most expensive cities to live in .A report from the Worldwide Cost of Living Survey compares the price of hundreds of products and services, including food, rent, luxury items, and transportation, in 131 cities. The prices are then indexed to New York City, which has a score of 100.For the first time, Zurich has outpaced Tokyo as the world's most expensive city.Zurich beats Tokyo by a score of 170 to 166, which means that the cost of living in those cities is 70 percent and 66 percent more expensive than living in NYC, as measured in U.S. dollars.

Switzerland has long featured in, or around, the world’s most expensive cities, the strong swing in currency headwinds is responsible for Zurich’s current elevated position. Tokyo was the runner up,Tokyo is still 66% more expensive than New York, and was just slightly overtaken by Zurich in this year’s survey.Third and fourth places are split between Geneva, Switzerland, and Osaka, Japan. Making up the top 10 most expensive cities were Oslo, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore and Frankfurt. The index measures the cost of an expatriate lifestyle in more than 130 cities using a weighted average of the prices of 167 products and services.

Australian cites, too, were well-represented on the list by Sydney (No. 7) and Melbourne (No. 8). While Japan has long been known as an expensive place to live — Tokyo’s gas prices are 71% higher than New York’s — the emergence of Australia and Singapore on the list is a more recent phenomenon.

No North American city breaks the top 10. New York dropped 11 spots to a tie for 47th with Chicago and below Los Angeles.Just 10 years ago, Singapore, now the ninth most expensive city, according to the survey, was 2% cheaper than New York. Now it is 42% more expensive than New York.If real estate were factored into the survey, it would have amplified costs even more. In 2002, a one-bedroom furnished apartment cost $1,200 a month in Singapore and $730 in Sydney, according to Mr. Copestake. Today, the same housing costs $3,000 in both cities.

The Economist survey scrutinized costs in 16 American cities, and concluded that Los Angeles is most expensive but it noted a downward trend overall in the prices to be found in U.S. cities, cities that were the world’s most expensive just a decade ago.

DogTV, a cable network for dogs, launched in San Diego this past Monday aimed at stay-at-home canines and their workaday owners who want to feel better about time apart.Television channel devoted entirely to pooches has them fetching remotes instead of sticks. Cox and Time Warner cable systems are broadcasting the new niche channel, which appears in the Health and Wellness category of Cox's Freezone.

Creators say it was scientifically developed and tested for four years."DOGTV provides customized television entertainment, while the rest of the family is away at work or too busy to play with their Dogs.Studies show it relaxes and stimulates our dogs -- keeping them healthier and more content,” says Gilad Neumann, CEO of DOGTV.He adds “San Diego is an amazing dog city,” “The number of dogs per household is higher than the national average. You have Dog Beach and dog parks, and overall it is probably one of the top 5 cities in the nation as far as dog ownership and expenditures go.”

The 24-hour San Diego-based DOGTV network was created to entertain pets left at home while their masters are away.Studies have shown that dogs do enjoy watching television and the programming on DOGTV was developed through studies to stimulate their imagination, relax and entertain dogs.The color palette used onscreen, point-of-view camera angles, the transitions, pacing, sound design and more were all designed to appeal to dogs.

No word yet on when it will be available in other markets, but it will cost $4.99 a month in the San Diego area.

The writer-director duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor who were responsible for the turbocharged batshittery of the Crank films.Less known for high-budget finesse and more for the barely-controlled, amusingly sloppy handheld work employed on their Statham-starrers, the dappy duo enjoy some of the oddball moments in Ghost Rider's battles with various generic villains -- they can't bring the flaming skeleton head to life, but shots have a quirky funhouse quality, and the digital FX house should get a bonus for the bubbling tar on Ghost Rider's motorcycle jacket.The movie however has the slack narrative, confounding characters, bromidic dialogue, shaky SFX and palpable ambition-to-budget shortfall.

Using all their CIA surveillance gadgets, including hidden cameras and GPS devices, they engage in a creepy contest to see which of them will finally penetrate their target’s perimeter.The romantic triangle scenario is an old standard, but the addition of the CIA angle adds a sour taste to the mix. It isn't funny, exciting or romantic and if you actually manage to stick it out to the bitter end to see how it all turns out,FYI it is more disappointing."This Means War" is unnecessarily bombastic, and the revenge plot involving Heinrich gets in the way, only working as a means for director McG to deliver an auspicious climactic freeway chase.The movie doesn't take itself too seriously.For about thirty minutes in the middle, there are some good laughs, a decent idea, and interesting characters. It doesn't last, but it might generate enough goodwill to let you enjoy the rest of the film.

A new poll conducted by global research company Ipsos for What Makes You Happy Magazine has Indonesians followed by India and Mexico as the most contented people on the planet.Despite economic woes, wars, conflicts and natural disasters the world is a happier place today than it was four years ago.

Ipsos Global, which has surveyed the happiness of more than 18,000 people in 24 countries since 2007 found that while eight in 10 (77 per cent) citizens were "happy" with their lives, one-quarter (22 per cent) reported they were "very happy".

Brazil and Turkey rounded out the top five happiest nations, while Hungary, South Korea, Russia, Spain and Italy had the fewest number of happy people.Proving that money can't buy happiness, residents of some of the world biggest economic powers, including the United States, Canada and Britain, fell in the middle of the happiness scale.Regionally Latin America had the highest number of happy people, followed by North America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East and Africa. Only 16% of Europeans said they were very happy.

Children with high triglyceride levels at the age of 12 are more likely to have heart attacks and strokes by the age of 38 than that of those with normal levels, according to a study which was led by Dr. Charles Glueck of Jewish Hospital and Dr. John Marrison of Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center. It is said that health conditions like high blood pressure and cholesterol levels of children could help in predicting the chances of having heart diseases and diabetes of their parents in future. It is estimated that about 15 to 20 children may have high cholesterol thats related to their diet and lifestyle among every 300 U.S children.

The study was conducted on about 512 ohio families and the results were published in the "Journal of Peadiatrics". The study included 1,038 parents and 852 school students who, at an average age of 12 had their weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and triglycerides measured. These students were reassessed 26 years later as were their parents who were 66 years old on an average. In nearly half of the families may be 47%, it was found that a parent suffered a heart attack, stroke or needed a procedure to clear blocked heart arteries and in 37% a parent developed diabetes. By the end of the study it was found that parents were about twice as likely to suffer strokes and attacks at an age of 60 or may be younger, when their children had high blood pressure ae the age of 12.

Dr. Charles Glueck one of the researchers of the study said " Peadiatric risk factors like cholesterol, high blood pressure and triglycerides, identified families where parents were at increased risk". Parents odds of cardiovascular problems at any age were also higher when their child had high "bad" LDL cholesterol or triglycerides. When children were overweight their parents chances of developing diabetes and high blood pressure doubled.

In November 2011, the US National Institute of Health issued new guidelines saying children should have their cholesterol measured between the ages of 9 and 11, and again between the ages of 17 and 21. One reason thats important, he told to the Reuters health is that many parents may not get check up's regularly but they would take their children to the hospital. An expert panel convened by the National heart,lung and blood institute recommended universal lipid screening test for children starting at an age of 9 to 11. However not everyone agrees that children should have numerous screening tests.

The 3D is decent, the pacing is spot-on, there’s a lot going on visually to sooth the most impatient of attention spans . Journey 2′s comic relief is left largely in the hands of a one-note Luis Guzman.Vanessa Hudgens – the only female in the film who’s not Sean’s mother – fills in Romantic Interest detail, while Dwayne Johnson showcases his unique abilities by demonstrating a series of ever-more-routine party-tricks.It's not a bad message, and the cast is solid enough to have fun with the script. Johnson gamely plays the embarrassing stepfather right down to advising Sean about the girl-pulling power of the pec-pop.

Tiny elephants, a giant lizard and an exploding volcano are a few of the things they find in a 3D adventure that also sees outsized bees used as taxis and a lot more weird stuff to bear .With basic dialogue and predictable plotting, most pleasures are visual (especially in 3D), though some CG creations are better than others. It’s a harmless family film with an old-fashioned spirit of adventure, but the writing doesn't live up to the promise of the premise.The only good thing about the movie is the run time , a minute more and it would have been hard to bear the stupidity.Journey 2 lacks thrill and excitement, and doesn't accomplish even the most basic of desires from a film such as this: to be fun.

"Safe House" is somewhat misleading, suggesting this is some kind of Denzel-as-bad-ass revenge movie. No. Just an OK action flick. A no-nonsense Washington and some crisply directed action give this lightweight spy thriller a little extra punch.Safe House" occasionally takes itself too seriously -- just because Reynolds starts crying over something doesn't mean we will -- but it's energetically directed by Daniel Espinosa.An interesting facet is director Daniel Espinosa's extreme use of close-ups, which seem to create a claustrophobic environment, especially early on for Weston, as it seems his world is closing in around him.The film contains violence, strong language and a brief sexual situation.Too bad the material isn’t up to his or Washington’s performance, and that it wastes the exceptional talents of Vera Farmiga, Sam Shepard, Brendan Gleeson and Ruben Blades.

"Safe House" is gritty, exciting, violent and predictable. It is cut from the same cloth as the "Bourne" movies, although it is nowhere near as compelling as those spy thrillers when it comes to plotting and pacing.

It is quite natural for human to experience a decline in the mental activities as they grow old.However, scientists at the University College London have revealed that smoking may lead to cognitive decline at early old age.Severine Sabia, University College London and colleagues based their findings on the Whitehall II cohort study, involving British Civil Service employees. They examined the link between smoking and cognitive decline in the transition from midlife to old age.

To assess the relationship between subjects' smoking history and their level of cognitive decline, Sabia and her colleagues reviewed six self-reported assessments of smoking status collected over a period of 25 years, and three assessments of cognitive function collected over a period of 10 years. The cognitive tests were administered when participants were 44-69 years old, 50-74 years old and 55-80 years old.

They obtained data from 5,099 men and 2,137 women with average age of 56 years at the first cognitive assessment, the Archives of General Psychiatry reports.The authors note their analysis presents four key findings. They suggest smoking in men is tied to more rapid cognitive decline and that men who continued to smoke over the follow-up experienced greater decline in all cognitive tests, according to a University College statement.

Researchers noted that men who quit smoking in the 10 years before their first cognitive tests were still at risk of greater mental deterioration, particularly in higher level cognitive processes in planning. However “long-term ex-smokers” did not show faster cognitive decline.“A 50 year old male smoker shows a similar cognitive decline as a 60 year old male never smoker,” Sabia explained.

The findings are increasingly relevant to the world's aging population, the study authors said, with some 36 million dementia cases across the globe, a figure that is projected to double every 20 years.The authors also revealed that their results show no association between smoking and cognitive decline in women, although the underlying reasons remain unclear.They suggest one explanation for the sex difference they observed might be that men smoke greater quantity of tobacco.

Chocolate has come up with yet another health benefit, researchers and scientists came up with a new study that says chocolate consumption may stave off bowel cancer. Well for chocoholics munching regularly on the sweet treat, this is yet another good news. Its already been suggested that eating chocolate with high cocoa content could help in controlling diabetes, blood pressure and heart diseases.

According to the study conducted by researchers at the Science and Technology Institute of Food and Nutrition of Spain, it was found that eating a diet high in cocoa reduces the risk of developing colon cancers which kills more than 6,55,000 people every year world wide. In England, Bowel cancer is the third most common type of cancer and it is estimated that 16,000 people die from this disease each year. According to past studies it is believed that the cocoa seed is rich in particularly powerfull natural antioxidants that destroy harmfull molecules known as free radicals. This study and the new findings are the latest to claim that the cocoa beans have health benefits, most of which is harvested in West Africa.

The Experiment was conducted on a group of rats instead of humans as it is believed that rats are at a comparitively high risk of developing colon cancer. The rats were divided into two groups of which one group was fed with a regular diet consisting of 12% of cocoa for eight weeks, while the other group was given a diet that has no cocoa content. After a period of time, both the groups were exposed to a carcinogen called Azoxymethane, which is used to induce colon cancer. It was observed that within four weeks of exposure to the toxins rats began to develop the intestinal/Colon/Bowel cancer

Bowel cancer is a type cancer that usually develops in the large bowel and depending upon where the cancer starts it can sometimes be referred to as Colon or Rectal or Intestinal cancer. The researches discovered that the group of rats that were fed with a diet rich in cocoa developed a reduced number of pre- cancerous lesions when compared to that of the other group that were fed with a normal diet. In rats who were not fed with cocoa there were also changes in proteins that increase cell division and increse the potentiality of cell death ultimately promoting the growth of tumors. It is believed that the study published in the Molecular Nutrition and Food Research is the first to suggest that cocoa could help in preventing Bowel cancer.

The study was led by Dr Maria Arribas of The Science And Technology Institute Of Food And Nutrition of Spain. Maria says "Foods like cocoa, which is rich in polyphenols seems to play an important role in protecting against disease". Further research is now needed to know how the raw materials wouls benefit humans. Sarah Williams a spokesperson from Cancer Research UK warned that eating too much chocolate can also have a negative impact because chocolate is high in fats and calories, so eating too much chocolate could lead to obesity which might increase the risk of developing Bowel cancer.

Commenting on the study she said "This study involved rats in the lab who were fed very large quantities of Cocoa over a number of weeks, so it is impossible to conclude that eating chocolate or drinking cocoa prevents people against Bowel cancer". Sarah Williams suggested few health tips that could help you prevent bowel cancer, which includes eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits, veg and fiber and limiting the comsumption of red and processed meat, cutting down on alcohol and smoking, staying physically active.

Smartphones ‘Exposing Children to Pornography’.The easy availability and extensive use of smartphones is exposing youngsters to pornography, a British study has warned.Parents are being warned to monitor their children's use of smartphones as new research suggests vast numbers of youngsters have used them to access illicit pictures and videos.According to this survey, one in five children in Scotland has accessed inappropriate material on their smart phones.

According to research compiled by YouGov for Carphone warehouse, an alarmingly large number of children, especially teenagers, are accessing inappropriate images and videos online on their smartphones. The study also noted that nearly 46 percent of parents have no idea about measures to protect their children's mobiles.Ignorance of parents, primarily due to lack of technological skills, is one of the main factors which is aggravating this problem.

1000 children aged 8-15 year-olds took part in the survey, and the majority, 87%, said they know that they do not have parental restrictions on their mobile phones.

Findings of the survey :

2.8 million children have a smartphone – including almost a million 8-12 year olds (25 per cent)
87 per cent of children do not have parental security restrictions on their mobile phones
Almost forty percent of children use the phones to access videos and social networking sites
More than one in five (21 per cent) children admit to having accessed unsuitable content via their mobile phone
Only 13 per cent of children have security settings installed on their smartphones, while 44 per cent having parental restrictions on their home computers/laptops and 84 per cent have anti-virus software.

The survey also revealed that almost half of them owned a smartphone like iPhone, Most said their parents had brought them the device. A Fifth said they had viewed Violent or Pornographic content on a telephone. This implies that 1.2 Million out of a six million in the eight to 15 age group have used a smartphone to access illicit content. The study also divulged that almost 9 out of 10 children, who were surveyed , had no security settings on their telephones, and 46% of parents were oblivious to the fact that they were even essential.Over the last four years, the number of children accessing videos online more than doubled from 15 percent to 36 percent, the research found.Using social networking went from just 5% in 2008 to 38% in 2011; making it now the second most popular online mobile activity.The most popular smartphone activity is playing games, with 73% of the children surveyed saying they used their phone for gaming.
The research also found that extensive use of smartphones has raised the level of cyber bullying among youngsters.

History

Among the numerous questions regarding Easter Island ,are the origin and the date of the first immigrants: the real discoverers.More than 1,000 years ago, a group of Polynesians loaded into canoes and found their way across the South Pacific to one of the most remote islands in the world. They began to create nearly 900 long-faced statues, called moais, which represented their ancestors. Many were hauled for miles across the island. The most impressive display stands on a beachfront called Tongariki, where 50 imposing figures stare in the distance as the surf pounds behind them.Eventually the island was discovered by the Dutch (on an Easter Sunday). What followed were centuries of slavery, exploitation, and near extinction. Now the island's part of Chile, the native culture is returning, and new hotels are making it easier than ever to visit this storied place.

Worldwide, the island is known as Easter Island, a name given to the island by the Irish sailor Jacob Roggeween, who discovered it during the Easter of 1722. Caves
The Te Pahu network Located below the Akivi ahu in an area called Roiho. It is a long tunnel of lava, the biggest one in the island, It is easy to access the tunnel through the collapsed ceiling, and only a flashlight and a pair boots are needed to explore it, since very few parts are flooded. Thanks to several natural skylights, it is easy to find one’s way in the caverns.

The film keeps the viewer guessing with its mounting sense of mystery. Audiences may be divided, however, about the ending.The ending ultimately skews sentimental, and the film overall hardly breaks new ground in the genre.The Woman in Black is a tasteful, old-school frightener, emphasizing suspense and foreboding over blood and guts.Jane Goldman’s adaptation nicely dovetails the narrative threads of a son who lost his mother and a mother who has lost her son.Goldman's newly imagined ending might be too moist for some tastes, but it fits with the movie's central emotional arc.

Director James Watkins (Eden Lake) treats the material with surprising reverence, generating good clean scares from atmosphere and character revelations rather than shock editing or gore.The frights don't exceed PG-13, and the color never brightens much past gray. Red being the obvious and necessary exception.James Watkins making his American feature film directorial debut, had kept things quiet and let the visuals speak for themselves, it would have made for a completely different, and far scarier, viewing experience.

He imagines himself a hyper-evolved fittest survivor, angry at the world and eager to wreak havoc in Seattle. It’s up to Matt to stop him.The prolonged ending, however, which features spectacle in the form of major destruction around the streets of Seattle, grows almost numbing in its Godzilla-like extremes.

Director Josh Trank and screenwriter Max Landis, son of filmmaker John Landis, display enough raw talent and ingenuity in this sci-fi drama, their feature debut, to suggest better things to come.The film supposedly cost a fairly low $15 million to make and if this is true, then virtually every penny of it can be seen on the screen.Chronicle are the seeds of something truly wonderful.It surely opens the door for a Chronicle 2 - something i am looking forward to .

MEN MORE LIKELY TO LOSE MEMORY THAN WOMEN - > STUDY SHOWS

According to a new research men are more likely to lose thinking ability than women as they age. Men may be at a higher risk of experiencing Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) which is a stage where person has to deal with subtle problems with memory that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease or may be a serious Dementia.

The study was conducted in October 2004, on a group of 1,450 people from Olmsted country, minn., who were between the ages of 70 to 89 and free from dementia. The study was conducted for some three and a half years.

The participants went through memory testing every 15 months that would nearly account to four assessments. The participants were interviewed about their memory by medical professionals. The study was published in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

By the end of the study i.e., after three years of experimenting with 1,450 people it was found that 296 people have developed Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). The study found that the number of new cases of dementia per year was higher in men. Men were more likely to be diagnosed, with 72% per 1000 developing a mild cognitive impairment when compared to women where the rate of diagnosis was 57% per 1000. And the rate of both men and women being diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment was 64% per 1000.

According to Rosebud Roberts a professor of epidemiology at Mayo Clinic who led the study, people who were not married, lower levels of education might be the reasons for mild cognitive impairment which is a stage between normal forgetfulness and serious cognitive problems. It's a research which is likely to reignite the cliched battle of the sexes - women are much better at parking a car than men.New study suggests that men are worse at parking cars than women.A study produced by the car park firm NCP in Britain, which found that contrary to popular opinion women, on average, are actually better at parking their vehicles than men. The study employed a team of researchers to observe 2,500 drivers across its 700 car parks in Britain over a one-month period.

The research, which clearly contradicts the notion that women cannot park a car, has found female drivers are better at finding spaces and also more adept than men at manoeuvring a vehicle into a space.The NCP (a U.K. parking operator) surveyed 2,500 of its parking customers, and found that women score an average parking coefficient of 13.4, compared to men's 12.3.The maximum score was out of 20 and rated parkers on factors such as appropriate parking speed, pre-parking pose, central finish and reverse or forward speed.

Neil Beeson, a professional driving instructor who devised the experiment, described the results as “surprising”. Mr Beeson said: “In my experience men have always been the best learners and usually performed better in lessons.“However, it’s possible that women have retained the information better. The results also appear to dispel the myth that men have better spatial awareness than women."

Men fared better than women in some areas, including speed — they took an average of 16 seconds to park, compared to 21 seconds for women — and they were happier with the result, spending less time repositioning the car.But women were quicker at finding a spot, a result attributed to the fact that men often missed spaces by driving through car parks too fast, and more of them chose to reverse in, the method preferred by instructors.

Women performed better in many of the areas tested, although it seems that female drivers don't have any confidence in their abilities. Only 18% thought they were better parkers than men and less than a third of women believed they were better parkers than their partners.Men in the study also exhibited more parking bravado than their female peers, the study found, and more so when a female passenger was in the car. Men tended to attempt parking in a smaller space -- even if a larger one was available -- when a female was present.Researchers called this phenomenon "pose parking."

Between bouts with some really big canine puppets and the blistering cold weather, director Joe Carnahan and his team attempt an existential meditation on masculinity in the wild. The picture delivers the requisite scare moments and scenes of human endurance we associate with survival stories. But it never rises above the routine. Neeson has played a taciturn badass so many times, while Roberts, Mulroney and Grillo help turn what could have been Lake Placid on Ice into a pretty groovy little horror movie.Though the film is too long, it has exciting moments and a performance from Neeson that is enough to make anyone shiver. Added to that the plane crash is horrifying and the terrain frighteningly desolate

The Grey a strong philosophical punch for those interested. For the rest of the audience, the simple story of survival is more than enough to command our attention.

Speaking of the plot : It does go off in various directions, but during the bulk of the movie we remain confident all those threads will come together eventually. That confidence is a little misplaced. The rushed ending does go awry.

Sam Worthington of “Avatar” fame stars as former New York City policeman Nick Cassidy, a cop convicted of stealing a priceless diamond from a ruthless Manhattan financier (Ed Harris). Yet, New York City policemen do not recognize Cassidy after he checks into a midtown hotel using an alias, and steps out on the window ledge, threatening to jump. And An NYPD psychologist (Elizabeth Banks) is summoned to talk him down, unaware that Nick harbors an ulterior motive.Director Asger Leth, making his U.S. feature-film debut with Man on a Ledge, keeps the pace brisk and never allows the tone to stray into self-seriousness, which is crucial for a movie whose premise is so devoutly ridiculous. We can assume that Worthington & Co. tried to bring some depth to their performances. But given that the characters are written in such broad strokes, no one manages to overcome the inferior material.Man on a Ledge isn’t a bad movie, but it also isn’t terribly good.Man on a Ledge falls firmly into the category of the "time filler" film.
