Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

There are many ways to spin a familiar fantasy – but this webslinger is decided different from Sam Raimi’s previous Marvel Comics-based trilogy. While the plot – revolving around a teenager bitten by a genetically modified spider, developing incredible powers that inspire him to become a vigilante crime-fighter – remains intact, the characters are more fleshed-out and the new stunt-work is splendid,Director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) desperately wants Amazing Spider-Man to work as a high school relationship movie, but with the burden of massive amounts of plot and mythology to introduce, the movie sags under the sheer volume of stuff. There's a sweet spot where the film really hits his stride. After discovering his spider-abilities, Peter hits the streets for the first time. He's superhuman, but still a headstrong teen, full of obnoxious quips and close calls with shiv-wielding thugs. The action is slick, small and playful, Webb showing us something new by melding his indie sensibilities with big scale action.

The 3D works extremely well when it comes to his swinging his way around the Big Apple, though loses impact when it comes to old-fashioned dialogue and simple one-on-one scenes. Luckily the film is blessed with the delightfully confident and vibrant Emma Stone…she may be a little old to be playing high-schoolers (she is 22 later this year), but has such grace and poise – as well as perfect comedy timing – that oddly she ends up being the real beating heart of the film, with Garfield on hand to balance the geekiness with the superhero wisecracking.Webb often finds himself on shaky ground, with murky plotting or scenes that smell as if they've been insisted upon by a studio exec.Instead of the usual superhero suit ‘em up and punch ‘em out, Webb strives for and achieves in creating a superhero movie of many facets: Adolescent love story, coming of age drama, superhero soap opera, visually impressive action thriller. Webb weaves it all to make for a total package blockbuster and quite the new beginning for an old favourite.The 3D experience is often negligible, but the sheer size of the IMAX screen mightily lends itself to the scenes of Spidey swinging through the air, making it a convincingly immersive experience, further enhanced by Webb's use of POV for some moments.

The Amazing Spider-Man isn't the bold curtain-raiser they needed to justify a reboot such a short time later, but it earns its keep. Spider-Man lives to see another franchise-- maybe next time they'll make it a clear victory.

Many of them, especially the ones that you will never see coming, are truly inspired. “Ted” comes from that school of non-stop comedy in which if one joke doesn’t work for you then you need merely wait a few seconds because the next one probably will.“Ted” opens like a family movie, the tale of a little boy without many friends who makes a wish that his beloved teddy bear will be turned into a real playmate. His dream comes true and Ted springs to life, accompanying John on his journey through life and even becoming a semi-celebrity in the process.In its storytelling and film craft, “Ted” is as unpolished as its jokes, but it spews a sufficient amount of random and occasionally rancid comic energy to recall, in a good way,Wahlberg is actually quite good working opposite a co-star who, technically, isn’t there. “Ted” may not be profound or deft, but when it hits the sweet-sour spot, which it does regularly, it can win you over. The comedy here, as in most everything else MacFarlane has done, arises from a deep well of political incorrectness, and although we've heard much of this before, there were more than a few waves of genuine laughter that swept through the audience.Fans of MacFarlane’s animated TV series wouldn’t expect anything less, but while the movie feels like a live-action version of “Family Guy” at times – featuring many of the same trademarks ,It certainly wouldn’t hurt, but there are also things that MacFarlane is able to do here that can’t be done in animation.

Plot : Set in the world of male strippers, Magic Mike is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Channing Tatum in a story inspired by his real life. The film follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.

“Magic Mike” tries to use the business of sexual fantasy to make a point about the depressed state of the new millennial economy,“Magic Mike” goes nowhere new, and, in fact, Soderbergh seems to take a retro pleasure in the story’s very old-hatness. So why is the movie such ridiculous fun? The visuals are part of it: Acting once again as his own cameraman, the director paints his Florida the color of a dirty, luscious lemon, and he picks up on details others might miss.When the movie is focused on Tatum, McConaughey and the hilarious, outrageous choreography of the male strippers (their costumes seem inspired by the Village People), it's particularly engaging. But when the focus drifts to more peripheral characters. "Magic Mike," a mix of comedy and drama that takes place in the world of male stripping. If it falls short of greatness, it's not by much - and it could end up growing with the years. At the very least, it is exceptional and one of the best and most original pictures to come along in 2012. we get the story of a friendship between two men, the young one who wants to eat the world and the slightly older one who ate it already - and who now wonders if he's been devouring himself. Carolin's screenplay is witty and in harmony with Soderbergh's editing, his abrupt way of ending scenes, which gets a laugh in several places.Soderbergh makes MAGIC MIKE work better than you’d ever expect – unless of course you are a straight woman or a gay man & when the lights are up, you’ve got both Tatum and McConaughey burning up the screen and an engaging love story that is well crafted thanks to a very talented director.

Google creates 'computer brain' that loves cats!

The efforts of a team of scientists, hired by the famous Google X Labs, have been successful in the direction of crating the first artificial brain, capable of learning from its own experience.Rather famous for inventing the self-driving cars and for the Google Project Glass (augmented reality glasses), the scientists of Google X Labs are currently working on an new, highly-ambitious project, that attempts to create a virtual replica of the human brain, capable of learning.It turns out our future robot overlords love watching cats on the Internet, too. Google used 16,000 computer processors to create an artificial brain, connected it to the Internet, and fed it random images from 10 million YouTube videos so it could "learn."
The experiment worked thusly: the computers were force-fed thumbnail images culled from 10 million YouTube videos, all of which were selected at random.“The Google brain assembled a dreamlike digital image of a cat by employing a hierarchy of memory locations to successively cull out general features after being exposed to millions of images. The scientists said, however, that it appeared they had developed a cybernetic cousin to what takes place in the brain’s visual cortex.”

The researchers attribute this to part of the brain acting as a “cybernetic cousin” to the visual cortex, constructing an image of cat subconsciously via “grandmother neurons” that are activated when exposed to a particular face over and over again.Overall, Google’s team seems to think they can map out the entire visual cortex in less than a decade. Let’s hope its sophistication isn’t misplaced.

This Google creation performed like an image analyser. It learnt by itself as no one fed it with a description of a cat. Team leader Jeff tweeted, "I've been working on training systems for very large neural networks recently. One cool result we've found is that a large network trained with totally unlabeled data can automatically discover high-level concepts like human faces, cats, etc. (cats because we trained on still images from a large collection of YouTube videos).

Now you can buy a man-made floating 'island'

An Austrian firm has come up what it hopes is the next big thing for the mega-rich: a man-made, floating "island" with a list price of 5.2 million euros ($6.5 million)Measuring 20 by 37 metres (66 by 121 feet), the "Orsos Island" has no engine but can be anchored anywhere its owners choose and then towed to another location the other side of the world if they so wish.

The island is environmentally friendly and fully self-sufficient, with solar panels and wind generators providing power. It can sleep 12 people plus crew and offers 1,000 square metres of living space.The only problem is that no “islands” have been produced yet and that once manufacturing starts it will initially be in land-locked Slovakia.

Orsos expects the first finished products to be ready in 18 months' to two years' time, and for the "islands" to be transported down the Danube river into the Black Sea — and then to wherever the customer wants.

According to the Orsos website the "The Island is over 20 meters wide and more than 37 meters in length" and "the innovative design promises Island living more comfortable than just about any luxury yacht." Each island can accommodate 12 residents and up to four staff if required.

Gábor Orsós says "The luxurious yet affordable Islands offer much more than just the traditional ordinary holiday atmosphere. We offer you the possibility to withdraw yourself on ORSOS Islands and avoid the classical tourism so that you can enjoy a personal and unforgettable holiday experience."

The Austrian-based company has begun manufacture of the prototype in Germany and Hungary and hope show it to the public at the end of 2013.Previous floating islands have cost $100 million, but Orsos Island creator Austria's Gabor Ors aims to provide luxury at a much reduced cost.Buyers can tailor the design to their individual needs. The sun deck features lounges, a barbecue, jacuzzi, and a bar with seating for up to 15 people.

The only catch is that no "islands" have been produced yet.

Machine offers iced tea for tweets

A Twitter-activated vending machine is dispensing free ice tea in exchange for a Tweet in South Africa, in what developers say is the world's first sampling drive via the micro-blogging site.The robot-like machine was set up in a Cape Town mall, where it reacts to a specific hash tag to kick into action and pop out cans of the local BOS Ice Tea brand while displaying the tweeter's username.

"It's the only one of its kind and it's the first one that we know of that is Twitter-activated ," said Donald Swanepoel, creative director at marketing agency Cow Africa.The campaign aimed to get people to taste the tea, which is made with local rooibos tea and blended with fruit flavours, while spreading awareness of the brand.

"Whenever someone tweets it, all their followers read about BOS and obviously the novelty of it being a tweet-activated vending machine meant that a whole lot of media has picked up on the story and that's also gone onto the social media channels," he added.The machine will leave the Cape Town mall on Friday and there are plans for a national tour.

BEV, a high-tech vending machine from the South African beverage company BOS Ice Tea, requires tweets, not cash for a taste of its teas. To receive a free sample of BOS Ice Tea, users standing in front of the device simply need to tweet to the company using a specific hashtag.To ensure that the machine won’t be overwhelmed by Twitters users around the world, BEV has built in safeguards that only pay attention to those sending tweets in the immediate area of the machine.

BEV also looks at the location data of the tweet and compares it to a predetermined boundary set by BOS. This means someone beyond a short distance from the machine won’t be able to activate BEV by simply adding the hashtag to their tweet. This also means the Twitter user has to add location data from their mobile device to the tweet.

The high-tech vending machine also comes equipped with a microphone, speaker and camera in addition to a colorful variety of LED lights that shine erratically when a can of iced tea is dispensed. The BOS customer can watch a small video screen on the unit that displays a feed from a camera inside the machine that appears to be attached to the arm that picks up the drink.

Nothing in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a surprise or surprising other than it ending up a better movie than you expect.The surprise is how respectful it is of Lincoln's legacy, preposterous though that sounds. In Graeme-Smith's novel and screenplay (which he stripped of its modern-day framing device, the better to get straight to the bloody heart of things), vampires aren't just a pulpy metaphor for slave owners, they're the supernatural expression of pure human wickedness. But for those who love a rousing good time topped off with tons of visual flair, this film fits the bill. It’s crazier than an antebellum bedbug,Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter brings us the silly in the best possible way. It shouldn't work as well as it does, and you'll probably hate yourself in the morning (God knows I do), but the sheer off-the-wall originality of it means that you'll also be cackling like a loon through most of its running time. This "Vampire Hunter" has nothing to do with history, with the paint-by-numbers script that brings it down. It has everything to do with its intoxicating visuals, and for many moviegoers, that's more than enough.

Plot : Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it's too late.

The lack of both a romantic element and a real villain is only part of the problem. Another issue is that the lead character, the wild, arrow-shooting, red-headed Princess Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald) is more of a brat than a spunky, strong-willed girl. Okay, there's a fine line but, for the most part, Disney has managed to stay on the right side of it. The movie was written and directed by Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, and Steve Purcell (with a script assist by Irene Mecchi). As such, it is the studio's first offering not to be directed and co-written by one or more members of its core team of John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Brad Bird, and Lee Unkrich (though the first three served as executive producers).Pixar's latest is gorgeous to be sure. And the animation whizzes have once again upped the ante when it comes to what magic can be achieved turning computer code into mesmerizing images. But the company's first movie spotlighting a female protagonist feels like a throwback gussied up as reinvention.It’s paced well and has just the right, carefully calculated balance of slapstick and uplift. There are some scary moments, a vague lesson and an order-restored, all’s-right-with-the-world ending.It’s very professional. But it feels pre-tested and predictable — a lot more like the perfectly inoffensive “Mulan” than, say, the touching “Finding Nemo.” All the risk has been taken out of it.

Three weeks before the Earth is scheduled to collide with an asteroid the size of New Jersey, depressed, newly single Dodge (Steve Carell) and his slightly manic neighbour Penny (Keira Knightley) take a road trip to look up Dodge’s old girlfriend before everything ends.One of the great things Scarfaria brings to this project is her apparent ability to convince a slew of wonderful actors to perform in small roles that appear in only a single sequence. That describes most of the actors in this film apart from the two leads. This is one of those films where literally everything about it depends on whether or not it sticks the ending because if it falters in that regard in even the slightest, it could pretty much ruin the entire thing. There are so many ways in which Scafaria could have mucked up the final moments. I am not going to give away what happens but I will note happily that Scafaria finds just the right note on which to end her story and the result is a scene that is, in its own quiet way, just about perfect.There are moments of inspiration sprinkled throughout the movie - an extended, debauched party, a visit to a Friendly's with an amorous waitstaff - and the first-time director's vision of the end-of-days is rife with poignant personal touches. Carell, playing things straighter than ever before, and Knightley make a likable, if unlikely, pair. It's an entertaining and well-made if bittersweet wake up call to get out, live life to its fullest, get over past issues and -- to paraphrase Queen -- find somebody to love

According to a new study conducted by the researchers of Sheffield University of UK its been found out that air in kitchen is three times more toxic than the air on smog-filled street. Kitchen's that are small and are carefully insulated to be more energy efficient with bad ventilation, air fresheners, strong cleaning products can be ever more worse.

The study was published in the Journal of Indoor and Buil Environment.The researchers conducted the study comparing three homes where by a rural house was split into two flats and used electric cookers and two other city center apartments used gas appliances.

The scientists collected samples from outside and inside environments to test the air quality for a period of four weeks. The findings showed very low traces of highly toxic carbon monoxide in the kitchen of rural house where as the levels were comparatively higher in the flats that use gas appliances where the gas ovens were turned on.

The gas cookers were also found to be a major source of toxic gas namely nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The city center's flat's kitchens were found to be more toxic than that of rural kitchen's with the concentrations three times higher than those recorded outside. According to Prof. Vida Sharifi who led the research "we spend 90% of our times indoors and work hard to make our homes warm, secure and comfortable, but we rarely think about the pollution we are breathing in".

The researchers focused on pollutants that are of greater concern because of their highly toxic nature which might pose biggest risks to the elderly people and also for those who suffer from cardiovascular problems, and the particles that can penetrate into lungs could cause severe breathing problems. It is been suggested that the inhalation of toxic gases or particles can trigger respiratory problems and more over make the existing ones worse.

Japanese scientists have divined a mathematical model for what they call “The Hit Phenomenon.” By calculating the advertising budget of a film before it’s released, along with the amount of time a campaign runs and its word of mouth quotient on social media, a team from Tottori University worked to predict the success of such films as Spider-Man 3 and Avatar and then compared their findings to actual box office.

Why did "The Avengers" blow the roof off the box office, while "Battleship" sank to the bottom of the sea? Blame internet chatter. The number of times a film is mentioned in blog posts and social media strongly reflects how much money it is pulling in at the box office, according to a new model developed by Japanese physicists.

A group of Japanese scientists have surprised themselves by being able to predict the success or failure of blockbuster movies at the box office using a set of mathematical models.The researchers, published their study in New Journal of Physics.Their model was originally designed to predict how word-of-mouth communication spread over social networks, applying it to conversations about movies in particular, which was a success; however, they also found that when they overlapped their predictions with the actual revenue of the films, they were very similar.

It’s worth noting the relationship between social media hype and box office numbers were a strong correlation. That’s not to say that social media hype necessarily causes ticket purchases. During a period before a film release researchers could find a strong enough correlation that warranted validity in a mathematical model that can predict box office success by activities like comments and tweets sent out by the masses.

The team from Tottori University devised a set of mathematical models that measure how much money was spent on advertising before a movie is released, over what period of time, and how much talk the film generated in social media.Using the models, they predicted the popularity of a variety of blockbusters, including the Da Vinci Code, Spider Man 3 and Avatar, which they later compared to actual revenue generated.

Normally one would not expect mathematics would be able to so well predict a human response, like going to a movie because they heard it was good. We have always had a psychological feeling that soft music, melodies, sounds of nature, sounds of humming birds or babbling brooks would enhance our sleeping ability. But according to a new study people are more likely to have positive dreams when surrounded by car horns and commuters noise.

The study was conducted on 8000 individuals where by the scientists studied the dreams of these individuals playing randomly selected sound spaces as they went to sleep. The participants taking part had no idea about what they heard be it the sound of humming birds, or sound of someone talking or the sounds of busy city location nothing, all they had to so is wake up and record their dreams.

The results were surprising people who heard the sounds of birds experienced dreams that were 20% more negative than those who heard nothing.And people who heard the sounds of daily nine- to- five grind were up to 30% more likely to wake up feeling fresh and positive. The ' Lucid Sound space' the sound of someone talking was the worst sound which triggered 30% more negative dreams. The scientists hoped these findings could help people deal with depression or any sleep disorder.

The experiments were carried out with a smart phone application that played different sounds as the individuals fell asleep, when they went into the last period of rapid eye movement sleep or REM a situation where we get into the dreaming part.

Richard Wiseman psychologist professor of University of Hertfordshire says "when we counted positive and negative words people used to describe their dreams, we would have expected the birdsong and streams and so on, to improve peoples dreams. But what we saw was lot more negative. It was very realistic and people seemed unnerved by having birds in their rooms. Whereas perhaps the city space was more familiar and comforting".

One would not believe if any one told that he/she suffers from a disorder that shifts you into a phase like polar bears and lets you doze off for more than a month. Suffering from the same, an English girl (in her teens) realized that she skipped her exams and her birthday when she came out of the jinx.Stacey Comerford, 15, from Telford, suffers from a rare neurological disorder which makes her sleep for months at a time. This time round it was her longest event, when she slept through two months, missing nine exams and also her birthday.

Stacey Comerford from Shropshire in the UK is one of just 1000 people alive to suffer from Kleine-Levin syndrome, commonly known as Sleeping Beauty Syndrome.The disorder means she sleeps for 20 hours a day for weeks at a time.When she awakes during these 'episodes', her mother Bernie says she's in a trance, barely able to sip water or get any food down.Since being diagnosed, the straight A student has lost 12kg, and has only been able to attend 30% of her classes.

She is just one of 1,000 people worldwide to suffer from the disorder.Her mother Bernie Richards, 53, said: 'There’s never any warning. I’ve even found her fast asleep on the kitchen floor.When she’s in an episode, she might get up to go to the toilet or get a drink but she’s not awake. I call it sleep mode.'When she wakes, she thinks it’s the following day. She doesn’t have any memory of it.'During an episode, Stacey can be in a deep sleep for more than 20 hours a day. She only rises to go to toilet or sip water in a trace-like state.Amazingly in this state she is up just long enough for her mother to give her some food before she goes back to bed.

Comerford first experienced this rare syndrome about a year ago, in March. Doctors who analysed her case claimed that she was a moody teenager. Her mother took Comerford to the Princess Royal Hospital where doctors believed that she might have brain tumor. They took a brain scan and also checked for narcolepsy and epilepsy. But they were stunned to find that she did not have any such disorder.

Stacey's mother was even investigated by the local education authority because they had accused her of keeping Stacey off school when in fact Stacey just couldn't wake up to go to her lessons.Since her diagnosis, Stacey has to take high dosages of a stimulant drug called modafinil which helps to keep her awake. The drug is improving her quality of life and making her more awake.

Stacey's condition has forced her to miss her birthday, nine exams and she has even slept through holidays.

You shake him and he just can’t wake up.“When he does wake up he just eats everything he can get his hands on and goes to sleep again.”

Experts have been advising since years to drink eight glasses of water a day to keep fit, but researchers now have been suggesting that it does not contribute a bit to health,The common belief that people should drink eight glasses or two litres of water a day is a 'myth' that needs debunking, a Melbourne academic says.The new Australian recommendations suggest that an adequate daily fluid intake is about 2.8 litres for women and 3.4 litres for men.However, this includes fluid found in food and beverages.

In an editorial for the June issue of Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health, Dr. Spero Tsindos from La Trobe University says most people get enough water from the foods and beverages — including tea and coffee — they consume regularly and don't need to supplement with copious amounts of water.Our bodies need about two litres of fluids daily, not two litres of water specifically, said Spero Tsindos, who examined why we consume so much water.

Tsindos questions the notion that drinking water can aid weight loss suggesting drinking large amounts of water will not make you lose weight without a calorie controlled diet.He said that drinking a large quantity of water in one sitting to reach the daily intake level was pointless because it would not be distributed where it was needed. It would just dilute the urine."There is further evidence that water and a well-balanced diet do far more than water alone", Tsindos added.

He also points out that we should not discount the fluid intake from drinks such as tea and coffee.‘We should be telling people that beverages like tea and coffee contribute to a person’s fluid needs and despite their caffeine content, do not lead to dehydration.’

For long-distance runners, this can be a particular hazard. With half-marathons and marathons being all the rage, runners while practicing must resist the temptation to tank themselves up with too much water.

"Rock of Ages" is "Glee," just with much better hair.Rock of Ages works as a comedy. After all, the story is old and the songs have been played into the ground for years.The film in large part is no more than Glee on a movie screen, but its cast and comedy make it more fun than it may deserve to be.Despite the radio familiarity of the songs, the little-known pairing of Hough (who played Ariel in the Footloose remake and Georgia in Burlesque) and Mexican star Boneta (Javier Luna in TV series 90210) gives Rock of Ages a decidedly fresh feel.There are elements of fun to be had -- Brand's performance is actually surprisingly enjoyable, and Cruise infuses Jaxx with more self-deprecation than I thought him capable of -- and while I have no issues with Mary K. Baldwin, Cruise and Paul Giamatti, as Stacee's oily manager, are like the real actors showing the kids how it's done, and they help evoke the era, which is reimagined splendidly by production designer Jon Hutman, costume designer Rita Ryack and whoever did all the wigs.Rock of Ages also accidentally reminds us of the inauthenticity of hair metal and, even more obviously, the movie itself: talk about splitting hairs. Of course, for most musical-theater aficionados, the jukebox musical is inherently inauthentic: amusement-park theater pandering to the tourists.

The entire idea of a rock musical set in this time and in this place that doesn’t have an R rating should be a tip-off to how limp the content will be -- and for those that already have some antipathy towards the genre, their biggest smile will come at the end when they realize that, four years after this movie ends, Nirvana will come along and end all their careers.The film is so cheesy that it implodes on itself. It features some of the most nonsensical plot developments, like a strip club madam (which doesn’t and never has existed) who takes Sherrie under her wing, then coerces her into dancing only to later tell her she has to leave to get respect.

Perhaps Sandler thinks no one cares if he once again plays an over-sexed "lovable loser" who can somehow bed any woman in his immediate vicinity.The shame of it, as has been noted before, is that Sandler is capable of doing better work than this when challenged to do so by people unwilling to let him simply coast his way to an easy paycheck.At two hours, the movie needs slimming and the fat is apparent. Thankfully, the main ensemble goes to great lengths to make the hard R comedy click, with Sandler and Samberg playing well off each other (although Samberg doesn't have the making of a leading man after this movie), and SNL alums like Will Forte, Rachel Dratch, and Ana Gasteyer driving by to bring the funny. Though this is a movie aimed primarily at guys, one can't help but notice that all the female characters are literally just sex objects, defined entirely by what they do with their naughty bits. It wouldn't have hurt to develop some of them a bit more

Scientists have found we are more likely to die on our birthday than any other day.We are 14% more likely to die on our birthday, according to new research based on a study of more than two million people.The Swiss study, published in the Annals of Epidemiology, analyzed 2.4 million deaths over a 40-year period and showed that the "birthday blues" can be lethal.

The authors of the study blame what they have called anniversary reaction hypothesis, or birthday blues, with stress playing a significant part.Causes of birthday deaths included heart attacks, stroke, cancer, falls and suicide.

The findings – from a study over a 40-year period in Switzerland – back up the idea that ‘birthday stress’ has a major effect on our lifespan.Most of the rise was accounted for by heart attacks, which rose 18.6 per cent on birthdays and were significantly higher for men and women.

The various causes of death also increase substantially on birthdays, such as a

10.8 percent higher risk of dying from cancer,
21.5 percent greater chance of death from a stroke,
28.5 percent increased chance of accidental death,
44 percent boost in fatal falls,

Women become compulsive Facebook followers after giving birth according to new research from Ohio State University.The study, led by Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan, an associate professor of human development and family science at Ohio State University, tracked 154 new mothers, most of whom are white and highly educated, and found that 44 percent of moms said that their Facebook use increased after their big day,compared to 27 percent who said it decreased and 29 percent who said it stayed the same

For fathers, 31 percent said their Facebook use increased, while 19 percent said it decreased and 51 percent said it stayed the same.The results offer some initial clues as to how Facebook use may affect new parents’ adjustment to parenthood, according to the researchers.The findings suggest that, despite all the new demands faced by new parents, spending time on Facebook was worthwhile to them, said Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan.

Researchers also found that mothers who visited their Facebook accounts more often frequently reported higher levels of parenting stress.However, researchers noted that they could not tell from the available data whether more Facebook use caused stressed for mothers or if mothers with more stress spend more time on the social networking site."I think the most likely interpretation is that mothers who experience higher levels of stress are looking for social support on Facebook so they visit more often,"Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan said

The majority of mothers - 58% - visited their accounts at least once a day, compared to 44 percent of fathers.Nearly all women - 93% - said they had uploaded photos of their child to Facebook, while 83% of fathers said they did.The study, published in the July issue of the journal Family Relations, is the first to investigate new parents' use of Facebook during this stressful life event.

The study involved 154 mothers and 150 fathers, most of whom were white and highly educated. The data from this study came from questions asked nine months after the birth of their child.

The future of automotive safety is coming this summer to the U.S.: Cars that talk to each other and warn drivers of impending collisions.The U.S. government is launching a yearlong, real-world test involving nearly 3,000 cars, trucks and buses using volunteer drivers in Ann Arbor, Michigan.The vehicles will be equipped to continuously communicate over wireless networks, exchanging information on location, direction and speed 10 times a second with other similarly equipped cars within about 1,000 feet (300 meters). A computer analyzes the information and issues danger warnings to drivers, often before they can see the other vehicle.

Vehicle-to-vehicle communication, or V2V for short, allows cars and trucks to communicate with other vehicles in a given area. Each vehicle broadcasts its own speed and direction, making it easier to avoid potential collisions.A vehicle could even send out an alert as its wheels begin to skid, alerting vehicles behind it to a slippery surface ahead.In addition to warning of cars running red lights or stop signs, "connected cars" can warn drivers on a two-lane road when passing is unsafe because of oncoming cars.

V2V technology holds the potential to help in most crashes that aren’t alcohol or drug related,said David Strickland, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. But a lot will depend on how drivers respond to the warnings, and that’s one reason for the Michigan test. Overall, more than 32,000 people were killed in traffic accidents in the U.S. last year.

The safety benefits of V2V won't be fully realized until there is a critical mass of cars on the road that can talk to each other, and just where that point lies isn't known. By the time the government sets standards and automakers are able to respond, it may be 10 years before the technology is widely available on new cars.

NHTSA(National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has been working on the technology for the past decade along with eight automakers: Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai-Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen.

It's also possible for connected cars to exchange information with traffic lights, signs and roadways if states and communities decide to equip their transportation infrastructure with similar technology. The information would be relayed to traffic management centers, tipping them off to congestion, accidents or obstructions.

The first half of the film is remarkable,the crew explore artifacts on an unknown world. Every step they take mixes clever technology with Big Ideas.The way the cast clicks—it includes Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce—feels assured. Steady. Shot in 3-D, the depth of field, looking way off into the distance to a mountain or an cavernous tomb is awe-inducing.Prometheus is worth seeing on the big screen - in 3D - but revise your expectations downward before sitting down to enjoy Scott's return to sci-fi. It's beautifully crafted, has a decent amount of thrills. The movie in many ways a groundbreaking feat of visionary art, going so far as to present situations, images and creative concepts never touched upon in quite the same way before.

I think there will be a strong faction of people who are disappointed with this film because it isn’t a prototypical Alien film. Some people will want to see the same-old, same-old. Scott is shooting for something new and wonderful with this one, and he succeeds—for the most part.There’s a number of blinks and you’ll miss its connections to the original “Alien,” but you don’t have to be well versed in the film mythos as “Prometheus” works fine as a standalone. It actually probably will help your enjoyment as there’s a surprising number of inconsistencies between the two and events transpiring that from what we’re shown should not lead to events in “Alien.” Finally I walked out of the movie satisfied ,The details of the science technology is quite astounding. The amount of effort and talent to bring all of that to life is very impressive.

The franchise that began as a tame kiddie pleaser about four pampered zoo animals lost in the wild has matured and sharpened its teeth, perhaps thanks to Noah Baumbach collaborating on the script.There are some dark corners that could be pretty frightening to younger kids – the scene when the lemurs find themselves in a train compartment filled with dangling chains and hooks looks like something from a torture horror flick. And Dubois’ attempts to kill Alex rather than just capture him feel uneccesarily violent.The film really only sputters when it tries to appeal to adult sensibilities. Alex's(Ben Stiller) bit on his specie's ties with the Roman Colosseum fell flat with a packed screening audience.Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” may be the best use of 3-D animation we’ve seen since “Up.” Structured around a prolonged yet picturesque chase that takes Alex and company from Monaco to France to Italy to England.

The storyline avoids the poor choices the first two stumbled over, which includes one character wanting to eat another and a tribal rite that involved sacrifice. This time, the circus setting is colorful and engaging, the action scenes are cleverly choreographed and briskly paced, I think I'd have to say this Part 3 is the best one of the series, It may have taken awhile, but the creators have found the perfect formula to really make the “Madagascar” franchise work and this installment should definitely be on every family’s must see summer movie list.
