Richard Feynman was a world-class scientist, developer on the atomic bomb, Nobel laureate, and outspoken member of the Challenger disaster investigation team, where he revealed the massive institutional problems within NASA that lead to the shuttle explosion.

Before is death in 1989, he spent a great deal of time explaining and popularizing physics to all of us who are easily confused by those damn equations. He also played a mean set of bongos.

In the video below, he discusses doubt, uncertainty, religion and how to live in a universe made up more of questions than answers and where purpose arises from individuals and not from mere existence.

The latest bit of advertising, showcasing the new name for SciFi:

You know, I wouldn't mind SciFi changing its name to SyFy so much if I thought it would lead to better quality shows. I doubt it will.

I've always been of the mind that SF covers more than just SF. I get it that Universal once a name they can copyright in order to build a stronger brand. I mean there's a reason this site is called "doorQ.com" or "Door Q" and not "TheGayScienceFictionFantasyHorror
ComicBooksVideoGamesScience AndPicturesOfHotGenreGuysSite.Com"

It takes a minute to explain the name... well, once you say it out loud it all kind of comes crashing in with an "Oooooh... neat" relampago... but then you get it and can move on to the quality of the material that exists behind the name.

Or the lack of it.

I'm not expecting much of a renaissance after SciFi morphs to SyFy next week. Programming on SyFy will be like programing on SciFi...a good deal of crap, lots of cheap stuff to make easy money,

the occasional guilty pleasure and one or two bits of greatness every few years that always make you "imagine greater."

Just like the rest of TV.

NEWS: Vampire Con 2009 Bites Us. This is Good.

Los Angeles is going to see another night of blood sucking and soul stealing -and we don't mean in the halls of studio executives. No, this time it'll be at the first ever Vampire-Con, a weekend long event taking place in here in Los Angeles August 14th to 16th.

According to the schedule posted on site, their site, in addition to films and vendors, there will also be panel discussions, including one covering queer perspectives on vampire sexuality.

That perspective appears to apply to the entire festival. They're going to great lengths to appeal to people no matter their gender biting preferences. Here's one of many trailers they've created for the convention -- the queer-positive one.

THE HOTCAST: Fully Monty DANTE'S COVE actor now on BIG BROTHER 11

Braden Bacha, an upcoming contestant on the new season BIG BROTHER 11 is no stranger to the man-lovin-monster-lovers.

Dudetube, a site that isn't safe for work, so don't blame me if you click the link and your boss either gets mad or starts sexually harassing you, notes that he played a victim in Season Two of the supernatural gay soap DANTE'S COVE. He was also in THE BROTHERHOOD 2: THE YOUNG WARLOCKS, a comparable piece of literary, dramatic and filmic grandeur.

Yes, I've seen both.

I do it all for you, my fellow doorQs.

On the CBS website, Braden describes himself as:

...a fashion icon and thinks anything creative is totally rad; he even designs his own jewelry. But he hopes that he is not placed in the house with "fashionistas who think they are too cool for school."

I'd say his look is "minimalist."

While he is beautiful, as I recall from the episode, and as the clip from "BinkiniCom" above reveals, his acting is.... welllllllll.... there's a reason he's been on BikiniCom, Big Brother and only a background player on all those Here! productions.

NEWS: Joost Is Dead

Alas poor Joost, I new it not well but thought it had a chance of succeeding. Hulu though kicked it's ass.

From Variety:

"...Internet TV service Joost has given up on its attempt to compete with YouTube and the increasingly successful Hulu, backed by Fox, Disney and NBC.

"It's been increasingly challenging to operate as an independent, ad-supported online video platform," said Mike Volpi, who is standing down as CEO but will remain as chairman..."

I actually downloaded the Joost player shortly after it came out. I was all keen on the service, but the technical glitches and contortions you had to do to get it to run made it a hassle to use. It faded from regular use, with Hulu, in time, coming to fill my need for STARGATE: SG-1 and BABYLON 5 re-runs.

The "webworks" landscape is shaking out; amazing how New Media is starting to be dominated by the same major players as Old Media.

Only a few more days, now:

The story, without giving any inkling of what happened, the story is incredible," Barrowman added. "It's darker. It's filled with a lot more action. There's revelations about Jack that are just going to make people, ... let's say, ... crap themselves because they're so shocking. There's things that happen to each and every one of the team that will just blow your mind. It is a huge, big roller coaster, and there's one thing ... [producer] Russell [T. Davies] said this the other day in the panel, so I'm not saying, I think, anything that is out of line. But he said, 'It shows you how things in our life can disposable.' And he's not just talking about trash. He's talking about individuals."

TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH premieres on the 6th in the UK and the 20th Stateside.
