New Dorsey Metrology Comparator - Benchmark 14H

Dorsey Metrology International expands it product range of comparators.

With the new Benchmark 14H comparator, Dorsey Metrology International is focusing this new addition to its product line, at an attractive price point between Dorsey’s entry level 14HE model and its very popular 16H model bench top comparators. Like Dorsey’s other models, this machine is built to last and is designed for shop floor use.

This new bench top comparator has the same high quality features as the current product line that Dorsey is well known for in the industry. Like the 16H, the Benchmark 14H, a horizontal comparator, has an erect projection image, and our "ultra-precision" crossed roller bearing stage system, but designed in a smaller package than the 16H model. The measurement scales have zero backlash and are mounted in the center of the stage travel that provides maximum measurement accuracy. The system is available with Dorsey’s Internal Edge Detection and the extra-long life LED surface illumination is another Dorsey innovation.

The Benchmark 14H, has, a 14” (350 mm) screen for optimum viewing. The system comes standard with a 16” x 4” (400mm x 100 mm) cast iron, nickel plate stage with stage travel of 8” (200mm) in the X axis, 4” (100 mm) in the Y axis and focus of 1.5” (38 mm). As with Dorsey’s other bench top comparators, this highly accurate system is offered with linear scale resolution of 0.00025 mm (.00001”), and with Dorsey Metrology’s Quick Change Single Optics Mount, the Benchmark 14H can be used with available lens from 10X to 100X.

Dorsey Metrology offers a comprehensive range of products and services for industrial metrology applications in markets such as aerospace, automotive, medical and energy. Besides a comprehensive line of comparators, Dorsey Metrology International also offers a complete line of dimensional measurement instruments that range from indicating devices, direct reading gages, inner and outer diameter gages, large diameter gages, depth and concentricity gages and is known for providing gages for customer’s special applications.

Dorsey is a leading global provider of precision gages with a global network of distribution partners that enable Dorsey’s customers to receive the customer service they would expect.

60 Minutes, Sunday November 11, 2012, had a wonderful segment on the needs of U.S. Manufacturers. These needs are the same even at Dorsey. We found it so interesting we wanted to share it!
Dorsey Metrology Snap Gages / Outside Diameter Gages

Snap gages are among the oldest and simplest measuring instruments. They are used to measure the outside diameter of round parts such as shafts and the thickness of many other components. The first type snap gages were fixed limit gages which only confirmed the part being measured was within its size limits. The gage had two anvil sets with the first set sized to the largest acceptable size and the other set to the minor size tolerance. Fixed limit gages do not supply any variable data such as, actual size, approaching tolerance limits and data feedback.

Today’s snap gages are more accurate and sophisticated. Dorsey offers many varieties of snap, outside diameter, thickness and length instruments. All can be supplied with a variety of contacts that allow these gages to measure different part configurations. Examples include blade contacts to measure O.D. groove diameters, roll and ball contacts to measure pitch diameters, concave anvils to check the O.D. of an interrupted or segmented part and other contact types, purpose built, for other applications such as spheres, lengths and widths. Dorsey’s family of snap gage products include the Dorsey / Standard SSG series, the SDN series, the LRS (long range snaps), the ‘Versatile” snap, the “Jaw” gage, the BC series universal I.D / O.D. bench comparators and traditional fixed limit snaps. Again, all of these instruments (except fixed limit snaps) can be used with the Dorsey family of “High Amplification” and “Traditional” dial indicators, electronic or digital indicating devices.

Dorsey's Dial Bore Gages

Dorsey Dial Bore Gages

Dorsey mechanical products are known nationally and internationally for their quality and accuracy. Besides, the products that Dorsey has made over the last 57+ years, we are now recognized as the leading supplier for internal dial bore gages. The company manufactures and sells the Dorsey / Standard dial bore gages that are a benchmark throughout U. S. Industry, Dorsey DBL series of bore gages, retractable bore gages, indicating plug and indicating disc gages. Dorsey has recently increased the dial bore gage offering by adding a new Dorsey / Standard #7 and # 8 size gages. The # 7 measures between 10.00”-24.00” (254mm-610mm) and the #8 measures between 21.00” – 36.00’ (533mm- 915mm).

The Description of bore gages

Bore gages are comparative instruments designed to check hole diameter and condition. Dorsey bore gages use the principle of two point gaging and three point centralization. The contacts are diametrically opposed which provides the most accurate readings. Using Dorsey bore gages with two point measurement allows one to “Explore the Bore”. That is, determine the bore configuration / condition such as, bell mouth, taper, out of round, barrel shape or hour glass shapes.

To Use: The gage is inserted on an angle for easy entry into the bore. The centralizer feature insures locating the true diameter. The bore gage is “rocked” and the indicator is observed to find the lowest reading to obtain the true diameter reading.

Dorsey Dial Bore Gage Setmasters

Dorsey offers a variety of reference masters from specific size master rings to Dorsey’s corresponding family of adjustable bore gage masters. Dorsey offers a complete set of adjustable bore gage setmasters that cover the range of ½” to 36”. Each model corresponds to the range of its companion dial bore gage. These masters may also be adapted to be used with other brands of competing bore gage products.

Tags:

bore gage

gages

Dorsey introduces new bore gage models

Precise measurement of large bore surfaces using dial indicating and digital instruments in the past was difficult and not economical. But that scenario is about to change with the introduction of #7 standard style and #8 standard style bore gages. These gages feature modular design, that can be easily assembled to measure a variety of large bore diameter. These instruments reachability can be easily extended to evaluate conditions of a deep bore.

The primary goal for Dorsey was to develop an ergonomic instrument to measure a wide range of large bore diameter. These bore gages include a retractable centralizer to ease placement of the large bore gage into the bore. Additionally, a single horizontal adapter is readily assembled to the large bore gage to extend its use for measuring a second wide range of larger bore diameters. A vertical adapter is provided to extend reachability of the bore gage to measure deep bore diameters.
Tags:

bore gage

measurement

ISO places special emphasis on the need for Document Control within Quality Management Systems. The standards specify that control is to be reinforced for all relevant aspects of the business.

Effective ISO Quality Management System Document Control ensures that employees and staff have all the information they need to perform their tasks efficiently. The documented and controlled Quality Manual, Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and forms serve as the guideline across all functions of the business.

The maintenance and management of this information is vital to being able to create quality goods and services that ultimately satisfy the Customers. It insures that only the most current and relevant information is available in order to avoid errors that will disrupt the flow of everyday business and cause customers to doubt the company’s ability to perform effectively.

Beyond the Quality Management System documents mentioned previously there are many others where control is vital to the success of the business. Some of these documents include, but are not limited to:

Purchase orders

Quotes and Sales orders

Packing slips

Invoices

Engineering Changes

Training manuals

Maintenance records

Audit records

Job descriptions

Departmental performance metrics

Calibration and equipment records

Employee competence records

Access approvals for data management systems

Drawings, bill of materials, programs and routings

Supplier lists

Customer supplied documentation

Inventory control transactions

Corrective/Preventive actions

Management Review records

ISO quality management system document control procedures besides explaining the purpose of the documents should also describe how changes are made, reviewed and approved, by whom and what the retention period should be. Authority for retrieval of down level documentation and by whom must also be defined.

Documents must be easily accessible to all personnel. They should be reviewed for suitability on a regular basis and suggestions for improvement should be discussed frequently within each department and at management review meetings. It is every employees responsibility, from top management down, to make sure ISO Document control processes are followed in order to assist in having an effective ISO Quality Management System.
Tags:

iso

quality control

document management
