 <title>Dorsey Metrology Calibration Laboratory adds Bore Gages to its ISO 17025 Scope of Accreditation</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;In December, 2011 Dorsey Metrology's Calibration Laboratory added to its ISO 17025 Scope of Accreditation after a thorough evaluation process by A2LA. As a result of this evaluation we are pleased to announce the ability to offer ISO 17025 calibration of our entire Bore Gage product line. We feel that the addition of one of our most popular products to our Scope of Accreditation will allow us to be more competitive in the industries we serve and further enhance the quality of our products customers have come to depend on.  <title>Dorsey introduces new bore gage models</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Precise measurement of large bore surfaces using dial indicating and digital instruments in the past was difficult and not economical. But that scenario is about to change with the introduction of &lt;a href="/bore-gages/standard-bore-gages/7-dial-bore-gage"&gt;#7 standard style&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="/bore-gages/standard-bore-gages/8-dial-bore-gage"&gt;#8 standard style bore gages&lt;/a&gt;. These gages feature modular design, that can be easily assembled to measure a variety of large bore diameter. These instruments reachability can be easily extended to evaluate conditions of a deep bore.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;figure&gt;&lt;a class="colorbox colorbox-insert-image" href="/sites/default/files/blog/8-bore-gage.jpg" title="#8 Bore Gage"&gt;&lt;img alt="#8 Bore Gage" src="/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/blog/8-bore-gage.jpg" title="#8 Bore Gage" width="329" height="480" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/figure&gt;&lt;p&gt;The primary goal for Dorsey was to develop an ergonomic instrument to measure a wide range of large bore diameter. These bore gages include a retractable centralizer to ease placement of the large bore gage into the bore. Additionally, a single horizontal adapter is readily assembled to the large bore gage to extend its use for measuring a second wide range of larger bore diameters.  <description>&lt;h2&gt;At least according to &lt;abbr title="National Institute of Standards and Technology"&gt;NIST&lt;/abbr&gt;.&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;figure class="right"&gt;&lt;img alt="Scale" height="128" src="/sites/default/files/blog/scale.jpg" width="128" /&gt;&lt;/figure&gt;&lt;p&gt;So how exactly is a mass of 1 kilogram defined? In 1889 it was defined as a mass of platinum-iridium cylinder, and it's almost equal to the mass of 1 liter of water. Originally there were 40 cylinders made in 1884. To this day it's the only International Systems of Units (SI) unit still defined by an physical artifact. Other units, once represented by artifacts, were quantified in terms of mathematical constants. However, kilogram still affects some of them. Ampere, mole and candela are defined relative to other units, which include mass. And even more units definitions are based on those 3, in effect being affected by the definition of mass.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Over time, due to effects of quantum physics and material degradation, the mass of platinum-iridium cylinder, known as International Prototype Kilogram has changed. Since the cylinders are stored in air, they gain mass through adsorption of atmospheric contamination. So the end result is that the kilogram no longer weights 1 kilogram.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The new proposed definition of kilogram is based on Planck constant. Planck constant is physical constant, described as the proportionality constant between the energy on a single photon and the frequency of it's electromagnetic wave. It has a value of energy multiplied by time.  <title>2010 World Quality Day</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;World Quality Day was first introduced in 1990 by United Nations to increase worldwide consciousness of the essential contribution that quality makes toward a nation's and organization's growth and prosperity. The term quality is everywhere, in all aspects of life. For organisations, however, deploying quality advances is a prerequisite for creating a sustainable business.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In a global economy where success depends on quality, invention and sustainability, World Quality Day is your chance to reinforce these as the foundations of your organisation and focus on the importance of quality. This years Quality Day theme, "Out of Crisis" focuses on what a fit organization looks like and the role that quality management professionals play in facilitating fitness, from aligning the organization’s processes to its strategic goals, to ensuring that the organization and its people consistently understand and can deliver on stakeholder needs, to helping the organization look at processes, and prioritize and deliver improvement.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There are many ways organisations can raise awareness of quality in and around the workplace. Here are a few ideas to get you started.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;h2&gt;Promote quality internally&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;p&gt;In order for quality to become an important focus of business it needs to be something that is valued by the whole organisation. Make employees aware of what quality means to your organisation and show them how they can contribute. Here are some ideas for initiatives:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul class="configurations"&gt;&lt;li&gt;Organise joint workshops with clients and internal staff to focus on the practical realisation of quality.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Conduct and provide training courses on quality for all employees.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Quality suggestion competition - staff come up with ways of improving quality approaches internally.
