Electronics always work. Digital cameras or camcorders, iphones, watches, clothes, music, GPS, and food are some that do the trick. I would say that anything small that comes from the heart is much better than something expensive. Fathers adore their children; even just a little reminder of how much you love him or a small surprise from a child to their parent makes even the toughest guy's heart melt. If it's possible, you could surprise him with breakfast or coffee (show some care and spare him from that work), a bar of chocolate (or his favorite candy) or a card that you drew for him. It might sound silly, but lovely little treats often work better than expensive gifts or tools. The next one is http://www.completesavings.com/ which provides lots of local coupons, a discount on gift cards ordered through the Complete Savings. com website, discount movie tickets and reward points gift cards for a fee of $12 a month.
Typically, I would avoid these types of offers, but I have had no problems with Complete Savings so I recommend the service if the discounts offered are large enough to offset the monthly membership fee.

Is Amazon Great For These Things?

I have purchased a number of different things from Amazon and their merchant partners – books, CDs (way back when), movies, electronics, shoes (from Zappos), baby gear, etc.

It has always been well priced, generally quickly available and delivered in good condition.

I love shopping at Amazon and it is my “go-to” place for most online shopping.

The process is easy, I trust them and I get what I want. For “commodity” type of purchases, my gut feel is that 85-90% of the time Amazon has the best price or very close to it.

Note: when it comes to deals – especially Cyber Monday - most of my experience

is that they consistently have some of the best deals).

If what I’m buying is a smaller purchase (under $200), it often isn’t worth my time to shop all over the place just to find an obscure site that might save me $2.50;)

Amazon is great for these things.

When I get to bigger purchases (TV, computer, etc.), Amazon is often competitive on price, but I find that I want to see it in person and/or I want the ability to take the item back to the store if there are any problems. While I trust Amazon’s return policy, I just don’t want to have to try to return a television to them. I’ve got a few local stores that match competitors’ pricing, so in the case of big ticket items, I do a little research about the products and then go to the store looking to negotiate a little on price. Even though these stores don’t match online prices, I find that Amazon’s pricing is my barometer for whether I’m getting a fair deal. Plus, the employees at big electronics stores know that Amazon is a legitimate threat, so asking them to match the price and if they don’t threatening to go off an buy it on Amazon has worked when I’ve needed it.

For those that have never heard of Plato’s Closet, it’s a place that buys and sells second hand clothing. It’s not really a “vintage” store more like a very nice thrift store. They don’t do consignment, they only buy out right.

Plato's Closet sells good quality used clothing for low prices. They call it "gently used" clothing, and they also will buy your second-hand items, so if you need some extra cash, this is the place to go! For a list of their current locations across the US, check out this website.

Prices normally range anywhere from $5-25, pants being a little more pricy than shirts.

I like that they’re picky because you know that they clothes that they’re selling is clean and doesn’t have any stain, smell or holes you didn’t catch upon first inspection. They have a huge selection of clothing and sizes for girls, and everything from every day wear to dresses and accessory. They even have a few unworn and new items for sale as well. There is also a guy’s section, and a dressing room and bathroom. Bathrooms are rarely found in a second hand shop, so that’s always a plus.
