Large files List in Windows

e have already seen cool and quick way to see largest files and folders using Primitive File Size Chart. If you want to focus and view only largest files by size, then checkout "List Large Files" portable utility. It neatly list files from selected drive or partition based on decreasing file size. You can also save the largest file output list as a CSV file.

Generate & see Largest Files list

1. Download List Large Files & unzip the folder.
2. Click "LargeFiles" icon to launch program (no install required).
3. Select drive from drop down menu (top right).
4. Chose number of entries to be displayed, by default it is set to 100.
5. Click "List Largest files on selected drive" button.

It will show list of largest files in decreasing order of the size. You can click any files in the listing to open folder containing that file (and delete it as per requirement). Also, you can save the output list or perform the same routine on files in other drives or partition. One handy & quick way to keep eye on files taking bulk space on Windows PC.

Post Installation
Once you have installed the extension and restarted Firefox, you will see this message window regarding the Toolbar Button. Nothing to worry about though…

Options for Unplug
A good place to start with Unplug is with a quick look at the options. In the General Options tab, you can choose how to access Unplug (i.e. the Tools Menu), whether to submit statistical information on websites downloaded from (this is deselected by default to respect your privacy), and see the location of the Rules File.

The Downloader tab lets you choose between “Automatic”, “Save As”, and “ Open Over Current Window” for download style. It also lists supported downloading extensions that Unplug works with, so if one of these is a favorite of yours then that is even sweeter!

In the Advanced tab, you can choose to show results that do not work correctly if you are looking for a complete listing each time you download a video.

Unplug in Action
Once you have Unplug set up to suit your needs, then it is time to have fun downloading. For our example we chose a fan-made Green Lantern movie trailer at YouTube and have set up the Toolbar Button. To download a video, select from one of the following three actions:

Click on the Toolbar Button
Go to the Tools Menu and select “Unplug”
Right click inside the main browser window and select “Unplug”

You will see the following window once Unplug opens. Notice that there are different levels of video quality listed to choose from (terrific!). To start downloading, simply use the drop down menu and select “Save as”.

Once you have clicked on “Save as”, select your download location and rename the file if you so desire. The video shown above had the following “less than desirable” name, so renaming is a good idea.

Conclusion
If you find yourself downloading videos often, then Unplug can certainly provide an easy access way to do so. Before you know it, that “little green fish” will be your best friend!

The Gmail Notifier Plus pins to Windows 7’s superbar like any other application. It allows you to get previews of your inbox from the preview window which pop-ups when you move the mouse pointer over the icon. Clicking on the middle button opens the mail in Gmail.

Google Books is a really cool service from Google that has hundreds of thousands of books, magazines and newspapers scanned into digital format. You can access many of the books from free and others you can view portions of.
Unfortunately, there is currently no way to download a copyrighted book from Google Books, you have to view it online. The other annoying thing is that you can’t even print all the pages in the book! You have to go page by page and print them out.

That’s all a pain in the butt. A better way would be to simple download the entire thing from Google and read it on your own in PDF format. Luckily, someone else has thought of this and wrote an application for it.
Google Book Downloader is a free small utility that allows you to save a book as a PDF from Google Books to your local computer.
Here’s how you use the program to get books onto your computer:
Step 1: Go ahead and start up the application and paste in the book code for the book you want to download. This is simply the ID number that you see in the URL when viewing that book:

Step 2: Once you type in the code, press the Check button and the existence of the book will be verified and all pages will be retrieved.
Step 3: Then press Download entire book and all pages will be downloaded. Note that this can take a bit of time.

Overall, the program works very well and allows you to download the available pages for a copyright book. Note that it will not download the entire book, just the pages that are previewable. Enjoy!

he Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has divided India into various cellular zones. The first four digits of the Mobile number is called MSC code. MSC stands for Mobile Switching Centre which is the equivalent of a Exchange in Fixedline. Telecom Authority allocates MSC to each operator according to their requirements.

Microsoft's New Morro Download

Microsoft has released its own Antivitus product called as Morro and they call is Microsoft Security Essentials and I decided to give it a try. So the first step I did was to Uninstall the antivirus I have already and reboot my computer. In case you plan to use it, make sure after downloading it, this is firsts tep you follow too.

What is Microsoft Security Essentials ?

Its basically an Antivirus Program which protects you against viruses and spyware, including Trojans, worms and other malicious software.
It promises of no costs or annoying subscriptions to keep track of.
Promised to be Light weight and lot of silence as most of things will be handled by it in background and will not prompt you unless reuired ( We will check this more closely ).

The First look :
Installation was simple and so is the interface. There is not much of options to configured actually. The default settings are more then enough unless you would really get into and find out what more is available.
The first thing it will do is update with latest Anitvirus and spyware definition files.

Looking at the Settings :
One thing you should realize is that Morro is just an Anti virus and not a whole suite which can configure firewall and Internet securities and other things. It can provide you

Real time protection, scan archive files, create system restore point
You can exclude programs and files that can be skipped to be tested by the antivirus.
Choose default actions when a virus or spayware is detected.

My Thoughts :
Morro is pretty light database. Not heavy on system and worth using it. I am pretty sure its scanning capabilities are good but in case I do find something odd, I will let you know.
Like I said its not a complete security pack. Security meaning not only Antivirus but also Internet Security, Filewall security etc. Nod 32 Antivirus had been playing both the roles perfectly.
My Next Move :

Running Morro and ESET NOD32 Security Program together to find how it works together.
Do some more virus detection test, Manav will be helping me in this.
There are couple of more ideas to test this out.

I will let you know more on this.
Morro has a limit of downloads which will be soon exhausted. So if you are seeing this post now just download it now.

How to Measure Bandwith Usage???

It doesn’t matter if you are looking to find out about how much bandwidth you are using to determine if your ISP is charging you fairly, if your net connection is a bottleneck or simply because you are like me and love statistics.
Well we can use this simple bandwidth monitoring tool called Networx. If you are paying for your internet per KB or MB than you can use this application to measure bandwidth usage and shut down your network when you reach a certain level.
So in addition to all the pretty graphs and charts we also get better control over our connection. You can use Networx to see how fast your connection actually is or see how much bandwidth your kids are using downloading MP3’s.
Networx has a installer and a portable edition. I used the portable 767kb file and ran it.

You will see a system tray icon appear like the one in the above picture. You can hover over the icon to get quick statistics also like you see in the picture.
Upon right clicking the icon you will get this context menu:

All of the options are pretty self explanatory but we will run through them anyway. By clicking on the first item Show Graph you will get a screen that looks like this:

That graph will keep updating and is very accurate. The only options it has is – open or closed
Next is the Speed Meter:

Go ahead and hit the Start button and let it calculate all your downloads and uploads – it will then calculate how much data is traveling through your system currently. You can start, stop, reset counters, copy .to clipboard or save to file. The incrementing numbers is simply a stop watch so you can see how long you have been collecting data for.
Next up is the usage statistics:

You can get detailed information for daily, weekly or monthly statistics. You can set up your own custom reports as well as set hourly rates. And for those of you still using dial up – it has some stats for you as well.

Using this tab you can have Networx alert you when you have used a certain amount of data.
Next up is our settings:

The last three options are graphical network tools. They are NetStat, Ping and Trace Route. Netstat will tell you what is connected to your machine:

Ping allows you to test connectivity over the network or Internet:

and Trace Route lets you “Trace” your network route step by step to see where it is failing (or that it is succeeding):

I really love Adobe Photoshop keyboard shortcuts - it really helps to build up working speed using them in Your workflow. Keyboard shortcuts are keystrokes or keystroke combinations to quickly execute some command. You will evaluate those keyboard shortcuts strength as it increase your Work Speed.

Global keyboard shortcuts:
1.You can check all Your preferences pressing CTRL + K and learn more.
2. Press TAB - to show/hide tool panels;
3. Press SHIFT + TAB to show/hide only Your palette;
4. Press F repeatedly to cycle screen modes;
5. Press CTRL + TAB to switch to Your next document;
6. Press CTRL + SHIFT + TAB to switch to Your previous document;
7. Press CTRL + T to enter free transform mode;
Tip: You can scale proportionally from center Your transform by pressing and holding ALT + SHIFT, when You are dragging.
8. Press ALT + DELETE to fill the layer with foreground color or SHIFT + DELETE to fill with background color;

Insert Images to Mails in Gmail

Gmail Labs has introduced a new features which enables you to add images to your mails. Previously you could only insert images as attachments in Gmail. To enable this features, navigate to Gmail Labs and select enable for Inserting images feature. This features allows you to insert images into a message body. You can upload and insert image files in your computer, or insert images by URLs.

You can add the images using the link in the compose toolbar. This opens a popup asking you to upload images from computer or a web address.

Once added, you can resize the image by dragging it from the corner of the image. Apart from this, when you select the image in the compose window, you can resize to predefined size.

You need to make sure that you have turned on rich formatting mode, or it won’t show up in the compose window. Important thing to note here is that the images sent in the mail will not be displayed to another Gmail user and they are blocked. You need to click “Display images below” link to view the images. This feature is available for Google apps users as well.

1. Task Manager Disabled:

If you are working on Windows XP pro, following steps will help u to enable Task Manager

SOLUTION 1:
Click Start --> Run
Enter gpedit.msc in the Open box and click OK
In the Group Policy settings window, select User Configuration
Select Administrative Templates
Select System
Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
Select Remove Task Manager
Double-click the Remove Task Manager option
Disable that option

SOLUTION 2:
Click on Start >> Run and in the Open box type:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Click OK.

2. Double-clicking any drive opens search option:

Solution 1:
That's a virus named as ravmon.exe and autorun.inf
Scan first with a good antivirus [Nod32 Recommanded]
then try this trick.

First show the hidden files and folders options then try this method

1. Go to Start-->run and type cmd then click ok

2. If u want to remove the infected file from c drive then type C: in command prompt and press enter

3. Type autorun.inf and press enter
autorun.inf file is opened

4. Now type "attrib autorun.inf -s -h -r" and press enter

5. Now delete the file by typing
"del autorun.inf" and press enter

6.Now type autorun.inf and press enter now, u will find no infected autorun.inf file.

3. I accidentally deleted my "mspaint.exe"/"notepad.exe"/etc. file, how can I get it back?

Solution::

You can use any of following methods:

A. Goto "%windir%\System32\DLLCache" folder and look for the file, if its there then copy it to "%windir%\System32\" folder.

B. Insert your Windows Setup CD and goto "I386" folder. Now look for the same file, it'll present there but the last letter of extension will be "_". e.g., u'll get "mspaint.ex_"/"notepad.ex_"/etc. Now open Command Prompt and goto "I386" folder and give following command:

expand mspaint.ex_ mspaint.exe
expand notepad.ex_ notepad.exe
etc.

Now u can copy the file to "%windir%\System32" folder.

C. Give following command in Command Prompt:

sfc /SCANNOW

It'll automatically restore the files.

4. When I right-click on Start button and select "Open", a "Copy To" or "Move To" dialog box opens automatically.

Solution:
Open regedit and goto:
Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\

Now under this key, delete following 2 keys:
Copy To
Move To

5. Windows is showing some wrong icons of files. How can I reset the corrupted icons?
Solution:

You can use any of following methods:

A. Download TweakUI and then click on "Repair Icons" in "Repair" section.

B. Open My Computer and goto:
C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\Local Settings\Application Data

Replace C:\ with your system drive and "user_Name" with your username.
Now there'll be a HIDDEN file "iconcache.db", delete it and restart your system.

6. A strange process "ctfmon.exe" always runs in background and if I click on "End Process" button, it restarts automatically.

Solution:
Open Control Panel and goto Add/Remove Programs list. Now click on the Microsoft Office entry and then click on "Change" button. Now select "Add/Remove Features" and click on "Next". Now expand "Office Shared Features" and click on "Alternative User Input" and then select "Not Available" and finally click on Update. It'll permanently remove that ctfmon.exe and your problem will be solved.

7. My Windows Login Screen has changed to "Classic Logon Box". I want the new Welcome Screen back.

Solution:
Type "control userpasswords" in RUN dialog box or Open "User Accounts" in Control Panel. Then click on "Change the way Users log on and off". Now check the option "Use Welcome Screen". If you get following error:

Uninstall client services for netware.

Then Open "Network Connections" and open Properties of your Internet Connection. Now goto "Networking" tab and select "Client services on Netware" option and click on the"Uninstall" button.

8. Whenever I start my computer, Scandisk starts running even I proper shut down the PC last time.

Solution:
Do as following:

A. Open regedit and goto:

In right-side pane, change the value of BootExecute to:

autocheck autochk *

B. If the above trick doesnt help then give following commands in Command Prompt:

chkntfs /x drive_name

for e.g., if ScanDisk runs automatically for C: and D: drives, then give following commands one by one:

chkntfs /x C:
chkntfs /x D:

9. When I start my computer, I get error message:

"Windows\System32\config\system" file missing or corrupt

Solution::
Boot using Windows Setup CD and enter into "Recovery Console" by pressing "R". Now Log into windows installation and enter admin password. Now give following commands at prompt:

copy %windir%\Repair\system %windir%\System32\Config

If it doesnt work, then again boot into "Recovery Console" and give following commands:

fixmbr
bootcfg /scan
bootcfg /rebuild
fixboot

I recently came across File Destructor; as the name suggests, it actually doesn’t destruct a file, it allows you to download already destructed files which cannot be opened, and the specifications of file, like the size, file type (extension) and file name are to be given by the users.
Now, what is the use of downloading such files, here is how the File Destructor describes the use of such files -
“Want to play games on your Playstation but got a deadline for an exam or report that didn’t match your gaming ambitions?
Then you have come to the right place.
Send trashed files and blame your faulty computer, instead of confessing that you are a lazy bum who just wants to play videogames”
Yeah, that means, if somehow, you haven’t been able to finish the task allocated to you, you can generate a fake file, which can’t be opened anywhere, now when your boss enquires for the report he asked you to prepare, you give him this file, telling that off-course you are done with your job, and later when he tries to open it, and asks you the reason, just give a “OMG!! How come it isn’t opening” expression, telling him that, it was working fine when emailed it to you, looks like there is some issue with your system.
Yeah but make sure you are doing it often else he might look into you for replacement. This can just save you for a while not always.
