Mozilla has released yet another bug fix build for the awesome Firefox 3.5 this one is 3.5.5 and it fixes some minor bugs, and most of the add-ons are compatible with it. If you haven’t gotten it yet I advise you to get it.

Windows 7 is the latest brainchild of Computer billionaire Bill Gates. It was made for a specific reason, which is to replace the enormous faults of Windows vista such as speed, usage of ram, space taken and the cost.

First let’s tackle speed. At any test, windows 7 has bested windows vista based on speed. Vista has had problems including reducing the performance of the computer since its beginning. For example windows vista mainly requires at least a 1 GB ram to function properly, while Windows 7 has only a 756 Mb ram necessity. I have tested windows 7 beta version in a laptop which has a 756 Mb ram and it still works perfectly, while in the same computer vista was lagging quite a bit.
The Space required for vista and the space required for windows 7 is almost the same. This region has a slight improvement but not greatly.

The appeal of windows vista was its main highlight. The glossy finish and a sleek window display made it such an instant hit that many people oblivious to its other flaws, but most tech savvy people just continued with windows Xp with a vista transformation pack. Windows 7 is like a bridge between Xp and vista, it has a new look and it also has good performance. The look is unique with a bigger task bar than usual. The icons are placed in the task bar when they are being used instead of the older display of the name of the program being used. I would say this is just one of the unique features of windows 7.

The cost also plays a major factor for the success of any Operating system. Although the price of windows 7 has not been officially released, many computer agencies have already begun their promotional lines of “free upgrade to windows 7”, giving us an idea that it will be around the same cost.
At the end of it all I would say that windows 7 emerges the victor in this fight.

Now it’s got its own site for extentions, extensions are only availabe for the versoin 4.0.233.11 or its updates which you can always find it here, and i should also mention that it could beat firefox in dealing with addons they can be installed , enabled , disabled all without the need to restart.

There are many launchers, which save you time and make you work faster with keyboard shortcuts. Yes again I’m talking about launchers, since they are the heart of a power user’s computer experience most power users can not live without a launcher of some kind, may it be a mouse based or a keyboard based one.

My favorite launcher when using keyboard is FARR (Find And Run Robot). FARR is absolutely a pleasure to use and fun too and it saves me a ton of time going through the start menu. I really love FARR when it comes to keyboard launchers.

Other types of launcher I prefer to keyboard based ones are the ones which launch folders and applications using a context menu entry. This is very useful if you are using a mouse all the time. Previously I was using FolderGuide which was simply superb except for a minor drawback, it only adds your folders as links in the context menu it doesn’t support adding applications, files and links.

This is where JumpTo comes in handy, I like to think JumpTo as a more complete version of FolderGuide. JumpTo  fills in all the gaps left by FolderGuide and I’m happy to say that JumpTo works really well too. It does what I expect out of all software, It puts a smile on your face.

This will also give you the ability to use the keyboard launch facility similar to FARR as it has a run box which allows use for the keyboard lovers.

Another thing I like about this is that its all self contained it does not write anything to your registry, or write anything out of its own program folder.

Finally there is a nice method which works very well with IE7+ and Firefox 2+ perfectly, this is in fact by using CSS3 where 4 rectangles are layered one above the other to emulate a rounded corner and this method unlike others works perfectly with most browsers, although I haven’t tested it with IE6.

Let’s Get Started.

Now we will be adding four rectangles (or lines whatever you wish to call them) which overlap each other, when combined they give the effect of a rounded corner. Now I will give you a small sample which will explain you what I’m trying to say properly.

If you Notice properly, b1f is the shortest line but in the highest position, b2f is long and lower ans so on b4f is almost the size of the content. These 4 lines placed in this manner gives the impression of the rounded corner to the user.

To make what I’m saying more meaningful, let us color each of the lines different so they look distinguishable, so lets change the CSS a bit.

There are some drawbacks in this techniques, the more radius you want the more bold tags you need to make, and the bigger the radius gets the more edgier the corner looks like. But for small corners this is the best method. See an example of all these CSS styles in action HERE
