Phishing is a serious and quite annoying issue these days. Especially for people who surf and search the internet a lot. There are loads of anti phishing toolbars and softwares available today, but out of all that I have used, (I have used quite a few like MacAfee anti phishing toolbar, Norton anti phishing toolbar and also browser defender), But I found WOT (Web of Trust) found this to be the most unobtrusive user-friendly and which has the minimum effect on page load speed.

So I think you guys should give it a try, I’m a person who always spends lots of time on the web searching for things and this saves me a lot of time by telling me if I should or should not click on a fake, risky, phishing site.

Some Extra Eye-Catching Features of WOT are

Over 4 million users

Ratings for over 22 million websites

WOT safety ratings appear beside search results in Google, Yahoo!, Live Search, Wikipedia, digg, …

WOT warns you about dangerous links in Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, and Yahoo! Mail

Read comments about websites from other users

The WOT browser addon is light, easy to use, and updates automatically

Option to block sites that are not safe for children

This is my new favorite, and also the protection level is awesome with the lowest effect on your page load timings. Therefore “Enjoy a Phishing Free Browsing Experience by Using WOT”.

This is for xp users, in some versions of windows.search may be like one of the 2 images. i had the one in the left and it was so annoying. i used to click the link in the bottom to move to the normal one. but finally i had a solution to uninstall it and get rid of this search. it always says that windows search is not running.and i have to run it. i never had a problem like it in the normal one. finally i had to uninstall it. it was installed with windows so it wasn’t found in add-remove programs. i was looking for an easy and simple solution for this and finally i found it and it was removed ( the 2 screen shots are from the same computer)

simply just download this file. and run “spuninst.exe” and and continue with uninstalling it. you may cancel the restart. it is not realy necessary. and if you need this advice then keep a copy of the file before using it. i noticed that after using it. spuninst.exe is deleted. so it is better to keep a copy of it before using it.

Enjoy

Messenger Plus! Live is an add-on for Windows Live Messenger that adds tons of features and extras to the software. Extend the possibilities of Messenger and make your experience a lot more entertaining!

Changelog(Release date:30/06/2009)

Messenger Plus! is now entirely compatible with Windows 7 (RC minimum) :

The Messenger Lock feature has been fixed. A new icon is added to the tray in Windows 7 if an unlock keyboard shortcut is not specified.

The default Messenger Lock icon in Windows 7 has been changed to blend in better in the new UI (hourglass: shell32.dll,323).

Note: the jump list of Messenger will work properly when using the Multiple-Accounts (polygamy) option but you’ll get the options for only one of your Messenger clients.

Tabbed chats display a proper preview (peek) picture with a list of currently opened chats. Chats waiting for input are colorized in the thumbnail and Alt+Tab or Win+Tab combinations also display the proper picture.

A couple of other minor fixes here and there to make the Windows 7 experience complete.

The settings of your scripts and skins can now be exported from the preferences panel and re-imported back.

Only the settings of the scripts/skins are exported and not the scripts/skins themselves.

As far as scripts are concerned, only the scripts that put their settings where they’re supposed to (see MsgPlus.ScriptRegPath) will be concerned by this new feature.

This release is contest-ready!

In this version, you will see a new golden icon in your Messenger toolbar. Those who participated in the contest 2 years ago will probably remember what this is.

A "Play and Win" menu has been added in the contact list.

The 2009 Contest is not open yet, it will be in about a week from now. Remember to give it a try in July!

The bug present in beta versions of IE8 has been fixed in IE8 Final. The workaround for displaying long chat logs in the Log Viewer has been removed.

Navigation arrows are now added in Windows 7 for tabbed chats, below the Aero Peek thumbnail in the task bar. Use them to switch from one chat to the next.

Fixed: the background of the title bars of Messenger Plus! windows does not display correctly with bright colors.

When a directory is selected in the Log Viewer, the log currently displayed is removed from the screen.

Fixed: default Messenger sounds for event notifications and new external emails aren’t played by Messenger Plus! in Messenger 2009.

Scripts. Fixed: scripts may be automatically started and marked as "running" the first time Messenger is restarted after a script has been updated, even if the script is disabled.

Skins. Fixed: new border areas specified in <Dimensions> do not work in Messenger 2009 Final.

Skins: Fixed: the <FrameCount> element in <MetaData> is not used if specified without any other meta data.

A couple of stability fixes. Runaway, from the river to the street.

Whenever you click the new mail icon of the live messenger, you are sent to the live mail login page in whatever browser is the default in your PC, so if IE is your default browser then no problem, but most people including me prefer Firefox. Well in that case you will have to (unfortunately) manually login to your email account.

But what if you would like to login to your Live mail account using IE (without the manual login hassles, and security issues), while Firefox is still your default browser?

Well there is a small tool to just enable that. Its called “Hotmail in IE”, using this you can select on which browser you want your live mail to load. Whether its IE (preferred) or if IE is not your default browser (In my case Firefox is the default browser, you can opt to open live mail in IE without changing your default browser.

Download Hotmail in IE

Note: This Method is the Most Secure, If you prefer a more easy less secure method, we have another method too, for all you Firefox fans.

Whenever you click the new mail icon of the live messenger, you are sent to the live mail login page in whatever browser is the default in your PC, so if IE is your default browser then no problem, but most people including me prefer Firefox. Well in that case you will have to (unfortunately) manually login to your email account.

Until now there is no work around for this, but using the following GreaseMonkey script, you can login to your live mail. You have to give your username and password to this script and will automatically log you in. One major drawback is that all your security data is exposed to anyone who visits the live mail site from the specific pc, since this script automatically logs anyone who visits the live mail site.

FYI: There is an alternate more secure method HERE, choose whatever you like.

Before you install this script make sure you have the Firefox add-on GreaseMonkey

Use this script ONLY if you have your own PC with a Password protected account.

After all the betas and release candidates the final version of Firefox 3.5 is out. The final which in changes is similar to the RC versions except for a few final tweaks and bug fixes does have a lot of new additions and important features when compared to the older 3.0.xx version. The main changes are as follows;

Private Browsing

A new JavaScript engine

Location Aware Browsing

Support for Native JSON and web worker threads

New improved Gecko layout engine

And support for new technologies such as HTML5 video support, JavaScript query selectors, some new CSS properties and SVG transforms. It also includes session managing options, filters to the AwesomeBar, and new tab features(i.e tabtearing)

Private Browsing mode in Firefox is pretty much the same as Google chrome’s Incognito mode and IE 8’s In Private Browsing but its an addition that will keep the the users from changing to other browsers. To turn on private browsing go to tools and click Private Browsing. And to learn what exactly this privacy feature does check out Mozilla’s information page on Private Browsing.

As for the JavaScript engine it uses Mozilla’s newest, called TraceMonkey which add native code-completion Mozilla’s JavaScript engine, resulting in a huge in the browser and web content.

Location Aware Browsing adds the ability to tell websites where your location is. This help the user to browse for faculties and services in your area. It must be mentioned that this feature does not in anyway compromise your privacy. This feature is optional and even though no information is sent without your permission if you wish to disable this feature permanently it can be done by following these steps:

In the URL bar, type
about:config

Type
geo.enabled

Double click on the geo.enabled preference

Improvements to the Gecko rendering engine has given Firefox 3.5 a huge increase in web content rendering, in simple terms web pages should load faster than the old versions. As for the other features like Native JSON,Web worker threads and support for new technologies that are important to designers and developers, a detailed information page can be found at the Mozilla developer center.

At the moment Firefox has still not been added to the main page but its available through their FTP servers. The download speed is very slow so if you have problems downloading use the mirror provided (only for 32 bit English).

You can get Firefox from their Official page once they have updated it… or use the links below…

Kaspersky has released its Mobile Security version 8. It has some very powerful features such as call/SMS filtering, parental control, firewall, data encryption and theft protection, where a user can send a SMS to a stolen/lost phone to block access to the phone or find the location of the phone using GPS.

Feature List

Anti-Theft

Kaspersky Mobile Security prevents user data from falling into the wrong hands, regardless of whether a Smartphone is lost or stolen.

SMS-Block: If your Smartphone is lost or stolen, you can prevent your personal data from falling into the wrong hands by blocking the Smartphone remotely. Simply send an SMS with a predefined code word to the lost device. To unblock the Smartphone, a password that only you know needs to be entered.

SMS-Find: You can locate your phone using SMS Find. Just send an SMS with a password to the lost device and you will receive a link to Google Maps (as soon as a GPS connection is established)* with the exact coordinates. Once you know the whereabouts of your phone, it should be clear if it was stolen or just left somewhere.

SMS-Clean: If it’s clear that your Smartphone has been stolen and there’s no chance of getting it back, you can send an SMS with a predefined code to delete all the data stored on the device.

SIM Watch: If someone removes the SIM from your Smartphone, the device is automatically blocked and if a new SIM is inserted, SIM Watch will immediately send you a message with the phone’s new number.

Encryption

Select a folder where encrypted files will be stored. Kaspersky Mobile Security will only provide access after a user-defined password is entered.

The files will remain encrypted even if someone removes the memory card from the Smartphone and tries to access its contents on a PC.

When the password is entered, the folder will remain accessible to enhance usability until KMS detects a period of inactivity

Anti-Spam

Kaspersky Mobile Security can function in white list mode (only accepting calls and messages from specified contacts) or in blacklist mode (accepting calls and messages from all numbers except those in the list).

After receiving an unwanted call or SMS, the offending number can be added to a blacklist at the touch of a button.

Unwanted words or phrases can also be added to a blacklist to ensure that specific types of messages are blocked.

Parental control

When installed on a child’s phone, Kaspersky Mobile Security can block calls or SMSs to undesired numbers (including premium rate numbers).

The SMS Find function means you can always find out exactly where your child is.*

Cybercrime prevention

The antivirus component of Kaspersky Mobile Security controls file activity in real time and can perform antivirus scans of the whole device on demand or on schedule.

The antivirus databases are updated automatically via any accessible Internet connection or during synchronization with a PC.

The product’s built-in firewall also analyses network connections and closes potential security risks. There are three levels of protection to choose from: low, recommended or maximum.

System Requirements

Kaspersky Mobile Security runs on Smartphones with:

SMS functionality;

an Internet connection;

Symbian OS 9.1, 9.2? 9.3 Series 60 or Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, 6.0, 6.1 operating systems.
