Why Wave Federation? Google Technical Lead & Architect David Wang Explains

Google Technical Lead and Architect David Wang speaks at eComm 2009 about building an open network around wave technology.

Google Wave is a product and wave is a technology, much like Gmail is a product and email is a technology. It was built using an open federation protocol to promote the use of waves and to ensure that users have a choice of wave providers.

Anyone can run their own wave server; the idea is to encourage organizations to build wave-like systems that will interoperate and discourage those that don't.

Wang describes what a wave is, gives a theoretical description of sharing waves and details of the Draft Federation Protocol Specification, which simply shows how to operate a wave server. It's just like running your own SMTP server and in this audio lecture, Wang demonstrates how.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Conversations Network is a listener-supported non-profit podcast network brought to you by a global team of passionate audio/video producers and editors.

This presentation is from TCN's CHI Conversations, the network's newest channel. It covers "the design, human factors, cognitive psychology and social science of Computer/Human Interaction".

CHI Conversations publishes programs from BayCHI, a remarkable 20-year old volunteer organization in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This is pretty cool. If it works, this will be the very first blog post I have ever written while riding on a bus. To add to this remarkable feat of science and technology, I'm using my BlackBerry to write and post this. Historic. Epic. Mind blowing, really. Ok I'm getting a little carried away with all that, but it is pretty cool. I do, however, have my stinky busface on as this rolling metal tube reeks of BO and piss.
Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
