The perception may be that Mayfair is all airs and graces (except me of course), but Shepherd’s Market retains an element of sleeze. It’s where Jeffrey Archer met one of his nemeses back in the eighties, and the trade continues here as it has done for hundreds of years. Which makes it an entertaining place [...]

It’s a sign of the times for Tooting Bec and for real estate. The estate agent on the corner of Stapleton Road has subdivided, turning over two-thirds of its floor space to a non-chain coffee shop. For the record, I’d sell my property through Walker Wyatt (for the right price) – they’ve provided good advice [...]

Reputedly one of the ‘best’ airports in the US (and certainly one of the easiest in which to clear immigration), Tampa Airport gets my praise for maintaining a link with real flying. Each of the elevator shafts is named after a hero(ine) of aviation. I’m not on there… yet.

We missed Superbowl Sunday by a week but the dregs remain. Hard to overestimate the importance of this event to Tampa, and the US as a whole. Tens of millions of dollars flood in, even in these recessionary times.

It’s a style common to so many hotels, but there is something rather disconcerting spending days in a room that looks inwards rather than outwards. Like staying in a fishbowl. Pity the guys in the offices opposite.

A day of rest and a trip to Walmart. I have an addiction to Hefty slider bags which can be blamed directly on the sister of Doctor Who’s assistant who first got me into this scene. Only available in the US these bags are terrific for storing loose cables, contact leneses, packing your rollaboard, sticking [...]
