The Amazon Mechanical Turk or MTurk is a service that was created so that those who need work done can hire thousands of human workers for much less than minimum wage. Each task is called a HIT and it can be as simple as clicking a link and as complex as writing an entire computer program. If you are a worker in the system you will not be compensated very well, but there are quite a few ways the work requesters are profiting from this service.

What is the work?

Mturk provides a fairly accurate description of likely HITs. HITs are submitted by a large pool of companies. These companies are typically using workers for tasks that could potentially be completed by computers, but not as well. Some tasks that fit under this category are translating, transcribing, rewriting/rewording sentences, and verifying contact information for businesses. Other tasks include writing descriptions of pictures or videos, identifying adult content, taking part in research studies and surveys, and writing short articles.

Some of the HITs pay very little and are very time consuming. However, there are some gems, such as some surveys that only take about 5 minutes and pay $1.00 or more. My favorite HITs are rewording sentences. These often only pay $0.02 to $0.04 each, but I type very quickly, so I do well with these and they typically pay out quickly. There are some scam HITs that make it on to Mturk even though they go against Mturk's policies. I have come across some that require credit card info or social security numbers to request auto insurance quotes. Sometimes the HIT takes you through several pages after you have accepted the HIT, and then it says there are no more HITs available. I have written both Mturk and the Requesters (companies) about these HITs, but I have never received compensation for these tasks. I now stay away from tasks that pay $2 or more for "Usability Tests" or setting up profiles on websites.

How hard is the work?

Many of the HITS are very simple. For example, it does not take much skill to reword a sentence or identify adult content. There are some trickier HITs that include math and grammar tests, though! Some of the Requesters require you to be a native English speaker and they test you before they allow you to complete any of their HITs. It would be very time consuming to work this opportunity as an actual job. Some other earning method are Blogging, Adf.ly and Freelance.

What is the work availability detail overview?

Sometimes HITs from my favorite Requesters dry up, so I sign out because I don't want to waste my time wading through scam HITs. Other times, there are several hundred HITs available from my favorite Requesters. Requesters post new HITs pretty often and there are always a large amount of HITs, just not always ones I'm interested in completing.

When you first start, you have to be very patient. You won't make anything substantial at first. You may need to take a qualifications test to even be allowed to accept the job. The good news is, for each type of task, you only have to do this once. You'll also spend a lot of time looking through the various tasks figuring out which ones you want to do. Well, you're not making money by browsing. You have to actually accept something to make money. Don't be alarmed by the low pay the requesters are offering for your work. While some of them are definitely not worth it, there are those that are. I find the ones that offer extremely low pay for the amount of work they want done take a LONG time to get done. Workers will do one of these hits, decide its not worth their time, and move on. But, if there's 800 people out there who do one of the 800 low paying HITs, they will eventually all get done. That doesn't mean you have to. The higher paying and simple HITs go pretty quickly.

You will find out after a few days which requesters you enjoy working for, and which ones to stay away from. After you decide the HITs you like, when you log on and see them, you don't need to waste time browsing. You can just go right to them and start earning money. Let's delve a little deeper.

One of my favorite requesters is Casting Words. They will pay you to transcribe audio. At first glance, it doesn't seem like much. They may pay $0.75 to transcribe, say eight minutes of audio. But, if you look closer, that's the base pay. You can earn up to three times that amount. They pay more for better work. Read the style guide, then sign up at their website so you can view your edited copies. Use the "auto-pause beta". This will pause the audio after playing for however many seconds you choose so you can catch up, then pick up where it left off. It's useful and it helps me to transcribe the audio faster. Casting Words will score you. A high score will yield more HITs that you are allowed to do for them. The higher paying ones are saved for those who have proven they are good. They will also pay you to edit other people's transcripts after a while too. So, its worth looking into if you have good grammar and can type at a decent speed. Since I type 80-100 words per minute, its easy for me to go through these. I take them whenever they're available.

If you can write pretty good there are requesters who will pay you to write 200-500 word articles for them. You don't even have to know about the subject, just research it online real quick and type it up in your own words. These will pay you $1.00 - $5.00. There are also rewrite HITs available. Look at a sentence and write an original sentence that means the same thing. These sentence rewrites pay $0.04 - $0.06 and usually come in batches. Click on the HIT and if you see one you have an idea for type it in the box below. Skip it if you can't think of one quickly. Just keep scrolling through until you see one you can do without putting much thought into it.

You can also take surveys. These pay from $0.01 - $2.00. Sometimes you just have to answer a question, and other times you have to complete a survey and copy the completion code into the submit box. These are easy and don't require much thought at all.

Sometimes people will ask for your opinion. They may have written a book and need a title for it, or they'll ask which image you like better. I once did a HIT for someone who was trying to decide what to name their baby. I clicked on the name I liked better than most. You just never know what people will put on there.

There are also companies who scrub the internet looking for adult material. They'll ask you to click on a page or look at an image and report whether it's pornographic, illegal, or inappropriate.

Some requesters are compiling a database for different kinds of companies. They may pay you $0.03-$0.05 to go to a website and find the phone number. It's usually on the first page. So, its pretty simple.

I did a slew of HITs last night where I tagged images. The pay was $0.02 to write 4-10 words about an image. I did about 100 of them in an hour.

There's just so many different kinds of things people will use Mechanical Turk for. You may think to yourself, "I'm not doing any kind of work for a penny". This is what my reaction was as well until I gave it a fair try. I do the penny HITs if it will take me under 30 seconds to complete. Check the "automatically accept next HIT" box and go, go, go! The penny HITs I do are ones that I don't have to go through more than one page. There's a requester that will ask you, "Are these two items different". You don't have to navigate away from the page. You look at them real quick. You check yes or no. You move on. Takes 10 seconds. Another penny task I will do is click on a link provided to me, take a quick look at the website, close the window it opened up, go back to the HIT, and check a box saying what kind of webpage it is. Simple. Again, if its taking you more than 30 seconds to complete, or you're having to search through multiple pages of a website to find the information requested - move on.

The best way to work on Mturk

As a transcriptionist, it’s not the best rate you can work at. But it can be a useful filler to your freelance transcription jobs. Earning a fulltime income on Mturk may be extremely difficult. However, if you plan on using Mturk to earn some extra money here are a few suggestions.

· Choose HITs that need qualifications, they tend to pay more. That means basically, to try and qualify for CastingWords and SpeechInk jobs.

· Devote a block of time to log on to Mturk everyday or whenever you can. Most transcription jobs will require at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. I was able to complete 5 minute interview audio in 30 minutes for $1!

· Before your accept HITs, first read all instructions and listen to the audio (you can even download the audios beforehand to see if you can do justice to it.

· Give the tests or qualifications required to be eligible for better jobs. I think your ultimate goals should be to work as a reviewer (proofreader). That way you’ll complete more jobs faster and the pay seems to be a little bit better.

· Use it as a filler, not your main source of income.

Conclusion

I think it’s good to be aware of such sites where any transcriptionist can make money online. If you are new to freelancing it may be a good training ground. For veterans, it’s a filler you can utilize when you are lean on freelance transcription jobs. So far, I’ve worked on two HITs each paying $1 each. I think I will be working on it soon.

Introduction to Power Point

1. PowerPoint is a component of MS Office, which is used to create presentations or transparencies. A presentation consists of one or more slides.

Starting PowerPoint

2. There are number of ways to start the PowerPoint. The most common ways are:-

(a) Double click the PowerPoint icon if it is present on the desktop.

(b) Click Start Button, points to Program & then click Microsoft PowerPoint.

Understanding the Screen of MS PowerPoint

3. PowerPoint window contains elements similar to those found in other MS Office components.

(a) Title Bar. It contains the title of the software i.e. Microsoft PowerPoint and name of the current open document.

(b) Menu Bar. It provides commands grouped in menus that instruct PowerPoint to perform certain tasks. Some commands perform an action immediately; others display a dialog box that enables us to select options before the action is performed.

(c) Tool Bar. It contains number of Buttons which are shortcut keys that enable us to perform common tasks without using the menus. There are some standard toolbars provided with the package, but the user can also design own customized toolbar.

(d) Vertical and Horizontal Rulers. There are graduated vertical and horizontal rulers to provide better control in page formatting and spacing.

(e) Scroll Bar. It allows us to move horizontally and vertically across and along the page or pages.

(f) Status Bar. It is displayed at the bottom of the PowerPoint window. The status bar supplies current information, such as the current slide number with the total number of slide in the current presentation.

Other PowerPoint Window Elements

4. Five View buttons are located above the status bar on the left side of the window. These Slide view, Outline view, Slide Sorter view, Notes Pages view & Slide Show view.

Views In PowerPoint

5. Microsoft PowerPoint comes with different views to help you while you are creating a presentation. The two main views used in PowerPoint are Normal View and Slide Sorter View. To easily switch between views, you click the buttons at the lower left of the PowerPoint window.

(a) Normal View. Normal view contains three panes: the Outline Pane, the Slide Pane, and the Notes Pane in PowerPoint. These panes let you work on all aspects of your presentation in one place. You can adjust the size of the different panes by dragging the pane borders.

(i) Outline Pane. Use the outline pane to organize and develop the content of the presentation. We can type all of the text of presentation and rearrange bullet points, paragraphs, and slides.

(ii) Slide Pane. In the slide pane, we can see how your text looks on each slide. We can add graphics, movies, and sounds, create hyperlinks and add animations to individual slides.

(iii) Notes Pane. The notes pane lets we add speaker notes or information we want to share with the audience. If we want to have graphics in the notes, we must add the notes in notes page view in PowerPoint.

(b) Slide Sorter View. In slide sorter view, we see all the slides present in the presentation on screen at the same time, displayed in miniature. This makes it easy to add, delete, and move slides, add timings, and select animated transitions for moving from slide to slide. You can also preview animations on multiple slides by selecting the slides you want to preview and then clicking Animation Preview on the Slide Show menu.

(c) Slide View. In this view, we can work with only one slide at a time. We can add title and body text, graphs, organization charts, clip art & word art. We can also draw shapes and access all of the toolbars.

(d) Outline View. In this view of PowerPoint, we can organize & develop the contents of the file.

(e) Slide Show View. This view is used to display the presentation on the full screen of the computer’s monitor. In this view, all the bars will be hidden.

Creating a New Presentation

6. For creating a new presentation, we need to follow these points:-

(a) Select option File from the menu.

(b) Select New. A dialogue box will appear.

(d) Click Ok. A blank slide with the selected Auto layout is displayed on the screen.

Saving a Presentation

7. We can save the presentation by the following procedure:-

(a) Select option File + Save from the Menu Bar or simply press CTRL+S or click Save icon present in the standard toolbar.

(b) Select the drive & directory in which we want to save the presentation.

(d) Click Save.

Close a Presentation or Exit PowerPoint

8. Do as follows:-

(a) On the File menu, click Close to close a presentation and want to remain in PowerPoint for creating another presentation. OR

(b) On the File menu, click Exit to quit PowerPoint.

Inserting a New Slide In a Presentation

9. For inserting a new slide in a presentation, place the cursor on that slide where we want to insert a new one.

(a) Click New Slide on the Insert Menu.

(b) Select the layouts and then click ok.

Delete a Slide in PowerPoint

10. To delete a slide, do as follows:

(a) Select the slide you want to delete.

(b) On the Edit menu, click Delete Slide.

Inserting a Duplicate Slide In a Presentation

11. To insert a duplicate slide, do as follows:-

(a) Select the slide or slides you want to duplicate.

(b) On the Insert menu, click Duplicate Slide.

Note. For duplicating more than one slide, we have to select them in the slide sorter view while only one slide duplication can be done in the slide view in PowerPoint.

Go To a Specific Slide

12. Navigating slides using different views are as follows:-

(a) Normal. In the slide pane, drag the vertical scroll bar until the slide number you want appears. In the outline pane, click the slide number.

(b) Slide sorter. Double-click the slide.

(c) Slide show. Right-click, point to Go on the shortcut menu, and then click Slide Navigator. Double-click the title of the slide you want to go to. Or, if you know the number of the slide you want to go to, just type it and press ENTER in PowerPoint.

Add Text to a Placeholder

13. PowerPoint comes with 24 Auto Layouts for slides. Many of these layouts contain text placeholders for titles, body text and bulleted lists. To add text to a text placeholder, just click in the placeholder and start typing. We can change the size and position of a text placeholder or apply a different Auto Layout to an existing slide at any time.

14. If you have a few extra lines of text that do not fit in the placeholder, PowerPoint automatically tries to fit the text within the placeholder. If your text starts to run off the bottom of the slide, insert a new slide and move the text to that slide. Text added to placeholders is the only text displayed in the outline pane and can be exported to Word.

Insert a Text Box

15. To place text anywhere on the slide, Text Box is used.

(a) Click the Text Box button present in the drawing tool bar or Click Insert Menu & then click Text Box.

(b) Click on the slide where you want to insert the text box

Add Text

16. Most often in PowerPoint, the easiest way to add text to a slide is to type it directly into any placeholder on the slide. If we want to add text outside a placeholder or shape, we can use the Text Box button present in the Drawing toolbar. We can also add text to an AutoShape or add a WordArt drawing object for a special text effect.

Change Capitalization

17. To change the case of a text:-

(a) Select the text you want to change.

(b) On the Format menu, click Change Case.

Change Text Color in PowerPoint

18. To change text color:-

(a) Select text you want to change.

(b) On the Drawing toolbar, click the arrow next to Font Color.

(d) To change to a color in the color scheme, click one of the eight colors below Automatic.

(e) To change to a color that isn't in the color scheme, click More Font Colors. Click the color you want on the Standard tab or click the Custom tab to mix your own color, and then click OK.

Copy Only the Look & Style Of Text

19. Do as follows:-

(a) Select the text that has the style you want to copy.

Note. You can't copy the font and font size on text created by the Insert WordArt tool on the Drawing toolbar.

Insert a Symbol or Special Character

20. Do as follows (PowerPoint):-

(a) On the Insert menu, click Symbol.

(b) To change fonts, click a name in the Font box.

Change the Layout of a Slide

21. Do as follows (PowerPoint):-

(a) Normal or slide sorter view, select the slide you want to change.

(b) On the Format Menu, click Slide Layout.

(c) Use the scroll bar to view all layouts, click the one you want and then click Reapply or double click the selected layout.

Apply or Change Slide Background Color

22. We can change the appearance of the slide background by changing its color, shade, pattern or texture. We can also use a picture as a slide background, but you can use only one type of background on a slide.

(a) Click Background on the Format menu.

(b) Under Background fill, click the down arrow & then select the color.

(d) To change to a color that isn't in the color scheme, click More Colors. Click the color you want on the Standard tab, or click the Custom tab to mix your own color, and then click OK.

(e) To change the background color back to its default, click Automatic in PowerPoint.

(f) To apply the change to the current slide, click Apply.

(g) To apply the change to all slides and the slide master, click Apply to All.

Add or Change a Shaded Slide Background

23. Do as follows:-

(a) Click Background on the Format menu.

(b) Under Background fill, click the down arrow, click Fill Effects and then click the Gradient tab.

(d) To apply the change to the current slide, click Apply.

(e) To apply the change to all slides and the slide master, click Apply to All.

Add or Change a Patterned Slide Background

24. Do as follows:-

(a) Click Background on the Format menu.

(b) Under Background fill, click the down arrow, click Fill Effects, and then click the Pattern tab.

(d) To apply the change to the current slide in PowerPoint, click Apply.

(e) To apply the change to all slides and the slide master, click Apply to All.

Add or Change a Textured Slide Background

25. Do as follows:-

(a) Click Background on the Format menu.

(b) Under Background fill, click the down arrow, click Fill Effects, and then click the Texture tab.

(d) To apply the change to the current slide in PowerPoint, click Apply.

(e) To apply the change to all slides and the slide master, click Apply to All.

Add or Change a Slide Background Picture

26. Do as follows:-

(a) Click Background on the Format menu.

(b) Under Background fill, click the down arrow, click Fill Effects, and then click the Picture tab.

(c) Click Select Picture, find the folder that contains the picture you want, double-click the file name, and then click OK.

(d) To apply the change to the current slide, click Apply.

(e) To apply the change to all slides, click Apply to All.

Copy a Slide From One Presentation to Another

27. Do as follows:-

(a) Display the slide that will precede the slide you want to insert.

(b) On the Insert menu, click Slides from Files of PowerPoint.

(d) Click Display.

(e) Select the slide or slides you want to copy, and then click Insert.

(f) To copy an entire presentation, click Insert All.

Apply Design Template to a Presentation

28. Design templates contain pre-designed formats and color schemes you can apply to any presentation to give it a custom look.

(a) Click Apply Design on the Format menu.

(b) Select the design and then click Apply in PowerPoint.

Slide Transition in PowerPoint

29. Movement of the slide with a special effect is called slide transition. Following points are necessary to apply the transition on any slide.

(a) In slide or slide sorter view, select the slide or slides on which we want to apply transition.

(b) On the Slide Show menu, click Slide Transition.

(d) Select a speed (Slow, Medium, Fast) for the transition effect.

(e) To apply the transition to the selected slide, click Apply.

(f) To apply the transition to all the slides, click Apply to All.

Create a Color Scheme

30. Color schemes are sets of eight balanced colors designed in PowerPoint for use as the main colors of a slide presentation for text, background, fill, accents, and so on. Each color in the scheme is used automatically for a different element on the slide. We can create our own color scheme for the presentation by the following steps:-

(a) On the Format menu, click Slide Color Scheme, and then click the Standard tab.

(b) Select a color scheme nearest the type you want, and then click the Custom tab.

(d) Click the Standard tab to select from the color palette, or click the Custom tab to mix your own color.

(e) In the Standard color palette, click the color you want, and then click OK.

(f) In the Custom color palette, drag the cross-hair to select a color, drag the scroll bar to adjust the brightness, and then click OK in PowerPoint.

(g) Repeat the process for each color you want to change.

(h) To save your color scheme with the presentation, click Add as Standard Scheme.

(j) To apply the new color to only the current slide, click Apply.

(k) To apply it to all slides in the presentation, click Apply to All.

Insert a Picture From the Clip Gallery

31. Do as follows:-

(a) Display the slide you want to add a picture to.

(b) Click Insert Clip Art on the Drawing toolbar, and then click the Pictures tab or on the Insert menu, click Picture & then click Clip Art.

(d) Click the picture you want, and then click Insert Clip on the shortcut menu.

(e) When you are finished using the Clip Gallery, click the Close button on the Clip Gallery title bar.

Note. You can also drag a picture from the Clip Gallery to your slide (PowerPoint).

Insert an Imported Picture

32. Do as follows:-

(a) Display the slide you want to add a picture to.

(b) On the Insert menu, point to Picture and then click From File.

(d) Click the picture.

(e) Do one of the following:-

(i) To embed the picture into your presentation, click Insert.

(ii) To link the picture in your presentation to the picture file on your hard drive, click the arrow next to Insert, and then click Link to File.

Note. You can also add pictures to your notes pages. To do this, click Notes Page on the View menu and then add the picture you want.

Apply Hyperlink in PowerPoint

33. Hyperlink means “ A link which is used to jump to a variety of locations. For example: to a specific slide within a presentation, to a different presentation altogether, to a Word document or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, to a company intranet, or to an address on the Internet. We can create a hyperlink from any text or object, including a shape, table, picture, or action button and then we can either click the hyperlink or hold the mouse over it to start its action. For applying hyperlink, follow the following points:-

(a) Save the PowerPoint presentation.

(b) Select the text, which user wants to hyperlink.

Adding Animation In a Presentation

34. Animation means, “ To add a special visual or sound effect to text or an object. We can animate text, graphics, sounds, movies, and other objects on the slides with the help of the Custom Animation option. By this option, we can focus on important points, control the flow of information and add interest to the presentation. To set up and preview the animation of the text and objects, follow the following points:-

(a) Click Custom Animation on the Slide Show Menu.

(b) Select the Slide Object from Slide Objects without Animation box of the timing tab.

(d) Click Ok.

Pack & Go in PowerPoint

35. When we want to run a slide show on another computer, we can use the Pack and Go Wizard. The wizard packages together, on a disk, all the files and fonts used in the presentation. When we intend to run our show on a computer that doesn't have PowerPoint installed, it also packages the PowerPoint Viewer on the disk of PowerPoint.

36. We can include linked files as part of the package. If we make changes to the presentation after we use the Pack and Go Wizard, just run the wizard again to update it.

37. There are two main things to use the presentation on another computer through Pack & Go option.

(a) Pack up a presentation.

(b) Unpack a presentation.

Pack Up a Presentation For Use on Another Computer

38. For packing up the presentation, we have to go through the following points:

(a) Open the PowerPoint presentation we want to save to a disk.

(b) On the File menu, click Pack and Go.

Unpack a Presentation to Run on Another Computer

39. Before we can do this procedure, we must have used the “Pack and Go” Wizard to package the presentation.

(a) Insert the disk in the floppy drive in which we have copied the PowerPoint presentation.

(b) In Windows Explorer, go to the drive where the disk is located and then double-click PNGSETUP.

40. To run the slide show, double-click the PowerPoint Viewer PPVIEW32 and then click the presentation you want to run.

Introduction to Microsoft Word

1. MS Word processor is a software package that enables the computer user to create documents containing text or graphics. It also provides ease of editing, deleting or adding any text in already created documents. By using MS Word, one can create a new document, type in the text or copy text from already created documents and can save it on the disk/diskette with or without protection (security passwords). Beside all these features MS Word has the following main features:-

(a) MS Word is a full-featured program for creating text etc.

(b) MS Word can integrate information from non-word programs like graphics, databases, spreadsheets etc.

(c) Word automatically saves the document while user is working. In case of abnormal shutdown like power failure, it automatically retrieves document in the next session of word.

(d) It also provides on-line help and an efficient graphical user interface (GUI) feature.

(e) Its tools like spell check, grammar and thesaurus certify its exigency.

Starting Word

2. The first method of starting MS Word is to double click its icon on the desktop. An equally handy way to start word is to double click on a word document icons. This will launch word and immediately open the document itself to work.

3. Another way is:-

(a) Click Start button and point to Programs.

(b) Click Microsoft Word.

Understanding Screen of MS Word

Creating a New Document

4. For creating a new document, proceed as follows in MS Word:-

(a) Select option File from the menu.

(b) Select New. A dialogue box will appear.

(d) Click Ok. Word has now created a blank document. Or click Cancel to cancel the operation.

Saving a Document

5. Once you think your job is over or even if it is not, you can save the document by the following procedure:-

(a) Select option File from the Menu Bar.

(b) Select Save from the File Menu, a dialogue box is displayed, asking for the name under which documents is to be saved.

(d) User can also specify the place through Save In window. i.e. drive or directory where the document is to be saved in MS Word.

Open an Existing Document

6. For opening an existing document, follow the following procedure:-

(a) Click File from File Menu.

(b) Click Open. An open dialog box will appear.

(d) Select the document.

(e) Click Open in MS Word.

Delete Single Character

7. Proceed as follows:-

(a) Place cursor beside the character that you want to delete.

(b) Press Delete on the keyboard, character to the right of cursor will be deleted. Or press Backspace on the keyboard to delete character to the left of cursor MS Word.

Delete a word

8. Proceed as follows:-

(a) Place cursor on the left side of the word.

(b) Press Ctrl + Delete on the keyboard, word to the right of cursor will be deleted. Or press Ctrl + Backspace on the keyboard to delete word to the left of cursor.

Selecting Text

9. A portion of text is selected to apply a following operation on the whole body of MS Word.

(a) To select a range of text, place the cursor on the left of the area and move towards the destination by pressing right arrow key while holding shift.

(b) To select a word, double click it.

(d) To select whole document, triple click on the left area of the document, where the cursor bar changes to pointer and tilts towards right.

Cut, Copy & Paste in MS Word

10. Cut Command. This option is used to removes selected text and graphics and puts it in the Clipboard (temporary storage area). This command is available only when user selects text and graphics. Text and graphics that user place in the clipboard remains there until he/she replaces it with a new item.

(a) Select the text to cut.

(b) Select the Cut option from Edit Menu.

Note. To quickly remove selected information from the document and place it on the clipboard, click the cut button on Standard Toolbar.

11. Copy Command. It copies selected text and graphics to the Clipboard. This command is available only when user selects text and graphics.

(a) Select the text to Copy.

(b) Select the Copy option from Edit Menu.

Note. To quickly copy the information to the Clipboard, click the copy button on the Standard Toolbar of MS Word.

12. Paste Command. Cut and Copy commands place the text in the clipboard and when user wants to paste it any desired location then select the Paste command. This command is not available if the Clipboard is empty.

(a) Place the cursor where you want to paste the text.

(b) Select the Paste option from Edit menu.

Note. To quickly insert the Clipboard contents at the insertion point, click the Paste button on the Standard Toolbar.

Font Option of MS Word

13. Font option consists of many other options like font style, underline style, effects and size. User has to select the text to apply these options.

(a) Select Font option from Format Menu.

(b) A dialog box will appear. Choose the Font from the dialog box. User can also apply Font Style on the selected text i.e. Bold, Italic etc.

(c) Different font sizes are shown in the dialogue box against each font. User can apply smaller as well as larger sizes to the selected text.

(d) User may apply any color to the font by Font Color option.

(e) Select any underline line style from Underline Style in MS Word.

(f) Another option Effects are also present in the Font window like shadow, small caps, etc.

Paragraphs in MS Word

14. The Paragraph dialogue box provides independent control over indents, spacing and text flow. Select Paragraph from Format Menu and do the following:-

(a) Indentation. This option controls the indentation from the left and right margins and the indent level of the second and subsequent lines.

(b) Spacing/Line Spacing.

(i) Spacing determines the amount of space between lines and between paragraphs. User can adjust spacing before or after the selected line.

(ii) Line Spacing determines the amount of vertical space between lines of text. This option provides the users with multiple choices to set Single, 1.5 lines, Double, At Least, Exactly & Multiple line spacing.

(c) Alignment. It consists of four choices of MS Word; left, right, centered and justified. It sets the text according to the selected choice.

Change Case

15. This option changes the case of the text. Before using this option, user has to

select the text. It consists of five choices.

(a) Click Change Case from the Format Menu.

(b) Select the option according to the requirement.

Find Command in MS Word

16. Searches for the specific text, formatting, footnotes, endnotes, or annotation marks in the active document. Special characters can be included. For example, paragraph marks, tab characters and hard page breaks in the search criteria.

(a) Select the Edit Menu from Menu Bar.

(b) Select Find option from menu bar. A dialogue box is appeared.

(d) If you want to replace the searching text with other text then click Replace tab present in the same Find window. Write the searching text in Find What window and write the replaced text in the Replace With window of MS Word.

(e) Click Replace to replace very first search. Replace All to all searches text.

Bullets & Numbering in MS Word

17. Creates a bulleted or numbered list from a selected series of the items in text or a series of cells in a table. To add or remove bullets or numbers quickly, click the Bullets button or the Numbering button on the Formatting Toolbar.

(a) Select option Format Menu from Menu Bar.

(b) Select Bullets & Numbering from Menu, a dialogue box displayed.

(d) Click Ok.

Insert Page Number

(a) Select Page Number option from Insert Menu bar.

(b) Select Position and Alignment of the page number on the page from the respective window.

Insert Date & Time in MS Word

(a) Select Date & Time option from Insert Menu bar.

(b) Select format of Date or Time from the Available Format window.

Header & Footer

18. Adds or changes text that word repeats at the top of every page (header) or at the bottom of every page (footer) in a section or in an entire document.

(a) Select Header &Footer option from View Menu bar. A dialogue box is appeared.

(b) Write the text in MS Word.

Note. When you choose this command, Word displays the Header & Footer toolbar. Use the toolbar to quickly add the current time, current date and page numbers to move between the headers and footers in the document and to display or hide the document text.

Insert Pictures (Objects)

19. To insert picture in the document, do the following:-

(a) Position the cursor where you want to insert the picture.

(b) Select Picture option from Insert menu.

(d) Insert Clip Art window will appear. Select the picture and click Insert Clip.

Insert Table in MS Word

20. To insert table in your document do the following:-

(a) Select Table menu from Menu Bar.

(b) Select Insert Table option from table menu.

Page Margin

21. For setting page margin, proceed as follows:-

(a) Select Page Setup from File Menu.

(b) In the dialog box you can see paper margins i.e. Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Header and Footer. You can change these values by typing or pressing up/down arrows according to the service writing.

Apply Borders & Shading

22. Add borders and shading to selected paragraphs, table cells and frames. User can also add borders to graphics.

(a) Select Borders & Shading option from format menu of MS Word.

(b) A dialogue box is displayed; select the Border.

Protect a Document

23. To protect document, do the following: -

(a) Select Protect Document option from Tools menu of MS Word.

(b) A dialogue box is displayed, enter password for document and press OK.

Hyperlink in MS Word

24. Hyperlink is a link through which user creates a link between two files or within a file. While Bookmark is a facility through which user creates a hyperlink that goes to a specific location within a file or in another document or web page.

25. Insert a Hyperlink. User can create a hyperlink that goes to an existing file or to a new file. After he has specified a name for the new file, he can choose to open the file for editing immediately or come back to it later in MS Word.

(a) Select the text or drawing object you want to display as the hyperlink and then click Hyperlink from the Insert Menu.

(b) Do one of the following:-

(i) To link to an existing file or Web page, click Existing File or Web Page under Link to or click File under Browse For option.

(ii) To link to a file that you haven't created yet, click Create New Document under Link to.

(i) If you clicked Existing File or Web Page, locate and select the file or web page from the browse option. If user remembers the whole path then write down it in the

Type the File or Web Page Name window or select the file from the Select From List window.

(ii) If you clicked Create New Document, type a name for the new file. You can also specify the path to the new file and choose whether you want to open the new file for editing now or later.

(d) Assign a tip to be displayed when you rest the mouse over the hyperlink, click Screen Tip and then type the text you want. Word uses the path or address of the file as the tip if you do not specify one.

(e) Click OK.

26. Link to an e-mail address. When user clicks a hyperlink that goes to an e-mail address, the Web browser creates an e-mail message with the correct address.

(a) Select the text or object you want to represent the e-mail address.

(b) Click Hyperlink in MS Word.

(d) In the E-mail address box, type the e-mail address.

(e) In the Subject box, type the subject of the e-mail message.

Note. Some Web browsers and e-mail programs might not recognize the subject line.

(f) Click Screen Tip to assign a tip to display when user rest the mouse over the hyperlink and then type the text you want.

27. Link to another document or Web page. Use following steps:-

(a) Open the file you want to go to and insert a bookmark of MS Word.

(b) Open the file you want to link from, and select the text or object you want to make a hyperlink.

(d) Under Link to, click Existing File or Web Page or click File under Browse For.

(e) Locate and select the document that you want to link to.

(f) Click Bookmark and then select the bookmark you want.

28. Link to current document or Web page. To link to a place in the current document, you can use either heading styles or bookmarks in Word. In the current document, do one of the following:-

(a) Insert a bookmark at the location you want to go to.

(b) Apply one of Word's built-in heading styles to the text at the location you want to go to.

(d) Click Insert Hyperlink.

(e) Under Link to, click Place in This Document.

(f) In the list, select the heading or bookmark you want to link to.

Note. To assign a tip to display when you rest the mouse over the hyperlink, click Screen Tip, and then type the text you want. For links to headings, MS Word uses "Current document” as the tip if you do not specify one; for links to bookmarks, Word uses the bookmark name. Introduction to Excel

1. In olden days, human kind crunched numbers with such Primitive tools as pencils, paper and hand held calculators. Our ancestors actually did financial planning by writing the numbers that they punched up on their calculators onto long screen sheets of paper. These green sheets, because they were much wider than they were tall, became known as spreadsheets in Excel. The spreadsheet use fine grid line to divide the large sheet into a series of columns and rows. An electronic spreadsheet program like Excel pays homage to this glorious past by presenting with a facsimile of the old green sheet on the computer screen in the workbook that appears when we start the program. Excel is on of the top spreadsheet programme in industry. MS Word, MS Power Point courses also available.

Starting Excel

2. Several ways to start Microsoft Excel are:-

(a) Click on the Start button, Choose Programs then Click on Microsoft Excel.

(b) From Windows Explorer, double Click on any Excel file. Excel will start and the file will be opened.

Exiting Excel

3. There are several ways to exit Excel:-

(a) Click on the X button in the upper right corner of the Excel window.

(b) Choose File from the top menu bar then click Exit.

Work Book & Work Sheet

4. An Excel document is called a workbook. Workbook is a container for one or more worksheets. Here are something to keep in mind:-

(a) Think of a workbook as a binder.

(b) Think of every worksheet as a page in the binder.

Opening Files in Excel

(a) Click File and then click Open.

(b) Click the Open button in the Standard tool bar.

Saving Files

5. Click File and then click Save. Give some name to the file and then press Ok.

Closing a File or Workbook in Excel

6. Choose File and then click Close from the top menu bar to close the active workbook. If there are unsaved changes, you will be asked if you want to save them.

Renaming a Worksheet

7. Work sheet tabs become a very useful interface for navigating a workbook when sheets have names like Sales Analysis and Forecast instead of sheet 1 and sheet 2. Do one of the following for renaming in MS Excel:

(a) Choose Format click Sheet and then click Rename.

(b) Right Click on a sheet tab, then choose Rename from the short cut menu.

Note. Each of these procedures will cause the sheet on the tab to be highlighted. Simply type the new name, then press Enter.

Cell in Excel

8. A worksheet consists of vertical columns and rows. A cell is the area where a column and a row meet. The cell is addressed by Column-Row method like A1, D8. A1 means first cell in column A and D8 means cell no 8 in column D.

Types of Cell Data

9. There are four distinct types of data that can reside in a cell. They are text, numbers, logical, Date/Time and error values.

(a) Text. Text in a cell can include any combination of letters, numbers and keyboard symbols.

(b) Numbers. The most common thing that is done with spreadsheet programs is numeric calculations. Here are some important things to understand about the way Excel treat numbers:

(i) A number may be displayed using commas, scientific notation or one of may built in numeric formats.

(ii) Dates and times are number but with special formatting.

(iii) When an unformatted number does not fit in a cell, it is displayed in scientific notation.

(iv) When a formatted number does not fit in a cell, number signs (# # # # ) are displayed in Excel.

(d) Date/Time. Store the date and time values.

(e) Error. Formula errors are displayed as a value.

Entering Data into a Cell

10. To enter data into a cell in Excel, simply do the following:

(a) Select the cell by clicking it.

(b) Type numbers, text or a combination of both.

Editing a Cell

11. There are two places in Excel where editing can be done, in the formula bar or in the cell itself:-

(a) Formula Bar. Select the cell then click in the formula bar. The insertion point is placed at the end of the cell contents.

(b) In Cell. Double click on the cell or select the cell and press F2. The insertion point is placed at the end of the cell contents

Undoing Cell Entries and Edits

(a) If you haven’t yet pressed enter while entering or editing changes can be cancelled by pressing Esc or click the cancel button.

(b) If you are already pressed enter choose Edit and then press Undo or simply click the Undo button in Excel.

Clearing a Cell

(a) For clearing a cell choose Edit and then press Delete from the top of menu bar.

(b) Delete key can also use for clearing a cell in MS excel.

12. Selecting a range with the mouse. Here’s how to select a range of cells by dragging:-

(a) Click on a cell at a corner of the range, but don’t release the mouse.

(b) Drag the mouse to select the range.

Inserting and Deleting Cells in MS Excel

15. To insert cells, select the cells where you want to perform the insertion and use the following methods:-

(a) Right click on the selection to display the short cut menu, and choose Insert.

(b) From the insert menu do one of the followings

(i) Choose the Rows command to insert entire rows.

(ii) Choose the columns command to insert entire columns.

(iii) Choose the cells command to insert a range of cells. The insert dialog box is displayed, asking how the insertion should occur.

Choose Edit > Delete from the top of menu bar of Excel.

Note A. If you select an entire row or column, the row or column is deleted immediately.

B. If you select a single cell or group of single cells, then dialog box (Delete dialog box) appeared and going the opportunity what to delete.

Changing Row Height and Column Width

16. Select any cell(s) in the column of excel, you want to resize, then choose Format Column from the top menu bar. The submenu appears, you can notice that the row height works just like column width.

Formulas and Functions in Excel

17. Excel offers its users a wealth of options for charting and calculating the data in worksheets. In this chapter we will learn to use cell references, external references and file links.

18. A formula is essentially a sequence of values and operators that begins with an equal sign (=) and produces a new value. Excel comes with several hundred built in formulas, called functions, which are designed to perform many different kinds of calculations.

19. Formulas in Excel share some basic properties:-

(a) All formulas begin with an equal sign.

(b) After a formula is entered, the resulting value is displayed in the cell.

20. To enter a formula into a cell simply select desire cell and start typing formula. The first character must be an equal sign. For example:-

(a) Select cell A1 on a blank worksheet.

(b) Enter = 1+2 then press enter. The resulting value, 3 appears in the cell.

In CorelDRAW choosing Rulers from the View menu toggles the rulers on or off. The rulers use the unit of measure specified for Grid Frequency while the 0,0 points are determined by the Grid Origin. You can change both of these in the dialog box displayed by choosing Grid Setup from the Layout menu.

Border Drawing. Window Large white area of the CorelDRAW window. You can draw anywhere in the drawing window, but if your Drawing Page size is the same as the size of the page you’re printing on, only portions of the drawing on the Printable page will get printed.

By default, objects display with their fill and outline attributes. You can display them in outline form only for faster screen drawing by choosing Wire frame from the View menu.

On-screen Color Palette. You can display a color palette along the bottom of the CorelDRAW window for choosing outline and fill colors. See also Color Palette command (View menu).

· To select a fill color, click on it with the left mouse button.

· To select an outline color, click on it with the right mouse button.

· Clicking on the arrows at the ends of the palette with the left mouse button scrolls the colors one at a time.

· Clicking on the arrows with the right mouse button scrolls a screen-width of colors.

· Clicking on the arrow with the left mouse button enlarges the color palette.

· Clicking on the button at the left end of the palette removes the object's fill if you click with the left mouse button, or outline if you click with the right button.

Page Controls. In CorelDRAW displayed in the bottom-left corner of the drawing window. The Page Controls shows which page in a multi-page drawing is currently displayed and the total number of pages in the drawing. To go to a particular page, click the, buttons or use the Go To Page command in the Layout menu. Clicking or with the right mouse button moves five pages (or 10 in facing pages view) at a time. Clicking with the left mouse button while holding down the CTRL key, takes you to the first or last page

Control Menu box. Located at the left end of the Title bar in the CorelDRAW window. Clicking on the Control Menu box displays commands for sizing and positioning the window.

Title Bar. Located along the top of a window, the Title Bar displays the name of the program and the file you are working on. If it is less than full-size dragging the Title Bar moves the window. The Title Bar may contain the following buttons for controlling the window:

Menu Bar

The horizontal bar near the top of the CorelDRAW window contains the names of the available pull-down menus. Choose the desired menu by clicking on it, or by pressing the ALT key plus the underlined character in the menu name.

Maximize button. Located in the upper right corner of the CorelDRAW window if it is not fully expanded. Clicking on the Maximize button expands the window to fill the entire screen. After you expand a window, the button changes to the Restore button . Use this button to return the window to its former size.

· You can also maximize a window by choosing Maximize from the Control menu.

· You can also restore a maximized window to its former size by choosing Restore from the Control menu.

Restore button. Located in the upper right corner of the CorelDRAW window. Clicking on the Restore button returns the window to its previous size and location.

· You can also restore a window by choosing Restore from the Control menu.

· Using the Restore button does not affect a window moved or resized with the Move or Size commands in the Control menu.

Scroll Bars. Bars along the bottom and right side of the screen used to view portions of a drawing outside the current viewing area.

CorelDRAW provides an Auto-panning feature which scrolls the view automatically when you drag beyond the edges of the drawing area. You can turn this feature on and off using the Auto Panning option in the Preferences, View dialog box.

Preview Screen. A view option that uses the entire screen to display your drawing. You can switch to the Preview screen by choosing Full-Screen Preview from the View menu or pressing F9. Pressing any key returns you to the drawing window.

· You cannot edit your drawing in the Preview screen.

· You can preview select objects only by choosing Preview Selected Only from the View menu.

Window Border. In CorelDRAW borders appearing around windows that are less than full size. Dragging the border lets you make the window smaller or larger.

· Drag the top, bottom, or side border to size the window in one direction only.

· Drag the corner of the border to size the window vertically and horizontally.

With the window less than full size you can also choose Size from the Control menu then use the , ¯, ¬, ® keys to size the window.

Menus. For help on a menu item, click the appropriate menu, then click the menu item.

Pick Tool. In CorelDRAW selects objects or groups of objects. After you select an object, you can use commands in the menus or the toolbox to change its appearance. You can also use the Pick Tool to interactively move, stretch, scale, rotate, and skew objects.

· How you select an object depends on the view you are working in and whether the object has a fill.

· You can select an object in either view by dragging a marquee box around it.

· When an object is selected, a highlighting box with eight handles appears.

· When you select a single object, the Status Line indicates the type of object selected (text, rectangle, ellipse, bitmap or curve), its Outline and Fill attributes, and the layer it is on.

· When you select a single group, the number of objects in the group is displayed. If you select multiple groups, or objects and groups, the Status Line counts the groups as single objects.

Note: If the MultiLayer option is enabled in the Layers Roll-up, you can select any object on the screen. Otherwise, you can only select objects on the active layer.

Shortcuts

· Pressing the SPACE BAR while using any of the drawing tools except the text tools activates the Pick Tool.

· Pressing the Ctrl+SPACE BAR while using the text tools activates the Pick Tool.

· Pressing the SPACE BAR while the Pick Tool is selected activates the last drawing tool used.

· Double-clicking on the Pick tool selects all objects in the drawing.

· Pressing the ESC key deselects all objects in the drawing.

Shape Tool. The function of the Shape Tool varies depending on the type of object selected in CorelDRAW.

Object Type Function. Line/Curve Changing the shape by moving nodes and control points and using the Node Edit Roll-Up Text Editing character attributes and interactive kerning Bitmaps Cropping Rectangle/Square Rounding corners Ellipse/Circles Creating arcs and pie wedges.

Pressing F10 selects the Shape Tool.

Zoom Tool. In CorelDRAW opens a flyout menu with six viewing icons.

(Zoom In) Magnifies a portion of the screen.

(Zoom Out) Zooms out by a factor of two each time you click or returns to the view you were at before the last zoom-in.

(Actual Size) Displays the drawing at the size at which it will print.

(Zoom to Selected) Zooms in on selected objects.

(Fit In Window) Brings all objects in the drawing into view.

(Show Page) Displays the entire Printable Page .

Shortcuts

· Pressing F2 selects the Zoom-in icon.

· Pressing F3 returns to previous view or zooms out by a factor of two.

· Pressing F4 brings all objects in the drawing into view.

Pencil Tool. In CorelDRAW draws lines, curves and dimension lines. You can also use the Pencil tool to trace bitmaps. Holding the mouse button down on the Pencil tool opens a menu that lets you choose the drawing mode and the type of dimension line you want to draw. Selects Freehand mode--a click and drag style of drawing similar to the way you move a pencil on paper. Selects Bezier mode--a connect-the-dots style of drawing where you specify the start and end points of the line/curve you want to draw which CorelDRAW then connects.

Rectangle Tool. Draws rectangles and squares.

Text Tool. Adds text and symbols. Holding the mouse button down on the Text tool opens a flyout with two icons. Lets you enter text directly on the screen as strings of Artistic text. Entering text as Artistic text allows you to fit the text to a path and create special effects using commands in the Effects menu.

Lets you enter text directly on the screen in blocks of Paragraph text. Paragraph text is intended for text-intensive applications such as ads and brochures. Formatting features available for Paragraph text allow you to flow text in columns, create bullet lists and set tabs and indents. You can also link blocks of Paragraph text and wrap it around other objects.

Add Artistic Text Select the Artistic Text tool icon and click in the drawing window.

Add Paragraph Text Select the Paragraph Text tool and drag to create a frame to contain the text.

Click to add a frame the same size as the page minus the current margins.

Edit text Select the Text tool then drag to highlight the text you want to edit. Use the Arrow keys to move the insertion point to where the new text should start then type the new text. Use the BACKSPACE and DEL keys to the highlighted text or type over it.

In CorelDRAW select the text with the Pick tool then choose the Edit Text command in the Text menu. Edit the text in the Text Editing window.

Format text Select all the text with the Pick tool, or portions of the text with the text cursor. Choose applicable formatting commands in the Text menu.

Change Outline or Fill Select the text with the Pick tool or individual characters with the Shape tool, and then choose the attributes you want from the Outline and Fill tool menus, the Pen and Fill Roll-ups, or the on-screen color palette.

Click the More button for additional information about the Text tool.

Shortcuts

Pressing F8 selects the Artistic Text Tool.

Pressing SHIFT+F8 selects the Paragraph Text Tool.

Double-clicking the Text Tool opens the Text Roll-Up.

Outline Pen Tool. Opens a flyout from which you choose pre-set outline thicknesses and colors. Also provides access to dialog boxes for specifying custom outline thicknesses, patterns, pen shapes, and colors. If the selected object is a monochrome bitmap , you can specify the color and halftone screen used to print it.

· You can also select outline colors from the on-screen palette or the Pen Roll-up.

· The Status Line shows the selected object's outline thickness and color.

Custom Outline. In CorelDRAW opens the Outline Pen dialog box or the Outline Pen for New Object dialog box if no object is selected.

Choose this icon if you want to specify custom attributes including outline thickness, line pattern, calligraphic pen effects, and arrowheads. Choose it, with no object selected, if you want to change the default Outline Pen attributes.

Pen Roll-up. Opens a roll-up for quick access to outline attributes like line thickness, style, color, and arrowheads. See Pen Roll-up.

None

Removes outlines from the selected object(s).

You can also remove outlines by clicking with the right mouse button on the button at the left end of the color palette.

Line Widths. Chooses line thicknesses ranging from .2 (hairline), 2, 8, 16, and 24 points.

Custom Outline Color. In CorelDRAW opens the Outline Color dialog box or the Outline Color for New Object dialog box if no object is selected.

Choose this icon if you want to specify a custom outline color, or with no object selected, change the default Outline Color attributes.

Black, White, Gray

Selects white, black and five shades of gray (10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%).

Shortcuts

· Pressing F12 with an object selected opens the Outline Pen dialog box.

· Pressing SHIFT+F12 with an object selected opens the Outline Color dialog box.

Fill Tool. Opens a flyout with icons for specifying an object's fill. You can fill an object with a uniform color, fountain fill, pattern, texture, shade of gray, or leave it empty. Choosing any of the Fill tool icons with no object selected opens a dialog box for assigning the default fill for new objects. See Default Fill dialog box.

· You can fill objects with uniform colors from the on-screen palette.

· The Status Line indicates the selected object's fill by color and name for uniform fills. If the selected object contains a fountain or pattern fill, the corresponding icon from the flyout menu is displayed.

· An object's path must be closed to accept a fill.

· If editable preview is selected, all fills are displayed on screen except for PostScript textures and halftone screens, which only show up when printed to a PostScript device.

· Fills applied to monochrome or 1 bit bitmaps fill the entire bounding box and show through the white pixels. You cannot fill color and gray-scale bitmaps.

· You can change the color of black pixels in a monochrome bitmap using the color wheel icon in the Outline Pen menu.

Uniform Fill Color. Opens the Uniform Fill dialog box or the Default Fill dialog box if no object is selected. Choose this icon to select or create a uniform color fill. Choose it with no objects selected to change the default Uniform Fill attributes.

Fill Roll-Up. Opens a roll-up for quick access to CorelDRAW's fills. See Fill Roll-Up. Removes the fill from the object, allowing objects behind it to show through.You can also remove fills by clicking with the left mouse button on the button at the left end of the color palette.

Fountain Fill. Opens the Fountain Fill dialog box for specifying fountain fills.

Two-Color Pattern. Opens the Two-Color Pattern dialog box, from which you choose two-color pattern fills.

Full-Color pattern. In CorelDRAW opens the Load Full-Color pattern dialog box, from which you choose full-color pattern fills.

Texture Fills. Opens the Texture Fills dialog box, from which you choose Texture Fills.

PostScript Textures. Opens the PostScript Textures dialog box, from which you can choose PostScript texture fills.

ou can change the size and orientation of the Printable Page to match the page size of the printer or other output device you are using.

To set the size and orientation of the Printable Page:

1. Choose Page Setup from the Layout menu.

2. Click the Size button in the Page Setup dialog box.

3. Choose Portrait or Landscape orientation by clicking the appropriate radio button.

when you print the drawing, a message appears if the orientation you chose does not match the printer page orientation (as specified with the Printer Setup command). The message asks if you want CorelDRAW to change the printer orientation to match printable page's orientation. Clicking "Yes" changes the printer's orientation to match that of the CorelDRAW printable page.

4. Do one of the following:

· Choose a preset page size.

· Choose Custom and type the dimensions in the Width and Height boxes.

To use a different unit of measurement, choose it from the units box. CorelDRAW will convert the value to its equivalent in the unit you choose.

Clicking the Set From Printer button will set the size and orientation of your page to whatever is specified for the active printer. Click OK.

Setting up the Printable Page. You change the layout and display of the Printable Page using the Page Setup command in the Layout menu. The layout options let you set up the page to design and print booklets, brochures and other types of documents.

To set the layout of the Printable Page:

1. Choose Page Setup from the Layout menu.

2. Click the Layout button.

3. Choose a layout option from the list box by clicking on it. As you click on the layout options, a description of them appears to the right, and a preview of the sheet appears at the top of the dialog box.

4. Click OK.

To set the display of the Printable Page:

1. Choose Page Setup from the Layout menu.

2. Click the Display button.

3. Click Facing Pages to view facing pages on the CorelDRAW screen. (Facing Pages is not available for the Tent Card and Top-Fold Card styles.)

4. Click Left First or Right First to show the left or right page of a multi-page drawing first. (Left First is only available for Full Page and Book styles.)

5. Choose a paper color by clicking the Paper Color box and clicking a color in the palette. (You would choose a paper color if you were printing to colored paper. The paper color appears on the screen, but does not print.)

6. Click Show Page Border to display the printable page.

7. Click Add Page Frame to apply a printable background frame to your drawing. The frame is sized to fit the page and is placed behind all objects on the screen. It's assigned the default fill and outline attributes, which you can change the same way as you would for other CorelDRAW objects. Click OK.

1. Choose Page Setup from the Layout menu and click the Display button.

2. Click the Add Page Frame button.

3. Click OK.

To remove a printable background from a drawing:

1. Select the frame. Press the DEL key.

Sizing the CorelDRAW windows. You can resize the CorelDRAW window using the keyboard or the mouse. The CorelDRAW window opens at the same size it was the last time you closed it.

To adjust the size of the CorelDRAW screen using the keyboard:

1. If they are not already displayed, click to display CorelDRAW's window borders.

2. Press ALT+Spacebar, then S.

3. Press the Arrow key that corresponds to the side, top or bottom border you want to move.

4. Press the Arrow keys to move the border.

5. Press the ENTER key when the window is the desired size.

To adjust the size of the CorelDRAW screen using the mouse:

1. If they are not already displayed, click to display CorelDRAW's window borders.

2. Do one of the following:

· Drag the side, top or bottom border to resize the window in one direction.

· Drag a corner of the border to resize the window horizontally and vertically. Release the mouse button when the window is the desired size.

Creating a new drawing. The New command in the File menu clears the drawing window, allowing you to begin a new drawing. To base the new drawing on a style template, use the New From Template command to choose a template.

To create a new drawing:

1. Choose New from the File menu.

To base the new drawing on a style template:

1. Choose New From Template from the File menu.

2. In the File Name box, type the name of the template you want to open.

3. To load the template but not the objects in it, click With Contents to clear the check mark. Click OK.

Opening a drawing. The Open command opens drawings you've saved to disk. You can also open recently-saved files by choosing them from the list at the bottom of the File menu.

To open a drawing:

1. Choose Open from the File menu.

2. In the Drives box, choose the drive where the file you want to open is stored.

3. In the Directories box, choose the directory where the file you want to open is stored.

4. In the File Name box in CorelDRAW, type the name of the drawing you want to open.

You can use wild cards (* and ?) if you're not sure of the name of the file you want to open. For example, typing text*.cdr in the File Name box and clicking OK lists all CDR files in the selected directory beginning with test. Typing test?.cdr in the File Name box and clicking OK lists all CDR files in the selected directory that begin with test and are followed by one more character.

Clicking the Options button displays options that let you search for files using keywords. See Finding files using keywords.

5. Choose OK.

To open a recently-saved drawing:

1. From the numbered list at the bottom of the File menu, choose the name or number of the drawing you want to open.

Note: You can open files from versions 4.x, 3.x, 2.x, and 1.x of CorelDRAW.

Opening a drawing using drag and drop. Dragging and dropping files from Windows File Manager into CorelDRAW is a quick way to open files.

To open files using drag and drop:

1. Click the bottom arrow of the Restore button, in the Windows File Manger and in CorelDRAW to reduce the size of the windows so that both windows are visible on your screen.

2. Locate the CDR file you want to open in the File Manager.

3. Click and hold down the mouse pointer on the CDR file and drag it into the CorelDRAW window.

4. Release the mouse button. The file is opened in CorelDRAW.

Note: The PANOSE Font Matching feature does not work when you open files using drag and drop.

Saving a new drawing. The Save command opens a dialog box where you can give a new drawing a name and specify a location in which to store it.

To save a file for the first time:

1. Choose Save from the File menu

2. Do one of the following:

· To save the drawing in the current drive and directory, type a name up to eight characters in the File Name box.

· To save the drawing in a different drive or directory, type the entire path name in the File Name box. Or, choose the drive from the Drives box and the directory from the Directories box.

Choose OK.

Choosing commands. In CorelDRAW to choose a menu command with the mouse:

1. Point to the menu name.

2. Click with the mouse button.

3. Point to the command name.

4. Click with the mouse button.

To choose a menu command by pressing keys:

1. Press the ALT key.

2. Press the underlined letter in the name of the menu you want to open.

3. Press the underlined letter in the name of the command you want to choose.

To close a menu without choosing a command:

· Move the mouse pointer away from the menu and click with the left mouse button or press ESC.

Choosing tools. In CorelDRAW to choose a tool with the mouse:

· Point to the tool button and click with the left mouse button.

A flyout menu appears when you click the Zoom, Outline and Fill tools. Point to the icon representing the function you want, then click the left mouse button.

To open the flyout menus for the Pencil and Text tools, point to the tool and hold down the left mouse button.

To choose a tool by pressing keys:

· Point to the option and click with the left mouse button, or

· Hold down the ALT key and press the underlined character in the option name.

To choose an item in a list box:

Working with text boxes. To type in a text box: If the box you want to type in is empty, do one of the following:

· Point to the text box and begin typing.

· Hold down the ALT key, press the underlined letter in the text box label, then begin typing.

If the box already contains text, do one of the following:

· Hold down the left mouse button, move the mouse pointer over the text you want to replace, then start typing.

· In CorelDRAW hold down the ALT key, press the underlined letter in the text box label, then start typing.

To edit in a text box. Do any of the following:

Move insertion point Point and click on the new location, or press the ®, ¬, HOME or END key.

Select text Drag with the mouse, or hold down the SHIFT key and press the ®, ¬, HOME or END key.

Using roll-ups. In CorelDRAW do carry out your selections:

· Click the Apply button.

To roll a window up and down:

· Click the arrow in the top right corner, or

· Click and choose Roll up or Roll down, or

· Double-click the roll-up's Title bar.

To close a roll-up. Click and choose Close, or

To close all open roll-ups. Click and choose Close All.

To move a roll-up:

· Point to the Title bar, hold the left mouse button down and drag to the new location.

To arrange open roll-ups:

1. Click .

2. Choose Arrange to roll up the active window and move it to the top right corner of the drawing window, or

choose Arrange All to roll up all open roll-ups and move them to the top corners of the drawing window.

To get help on roll-ups:

· In CorelDRAW press SHIFTF1 and click the roll-up, or

· Click and choose Help

To arrange roll-ups:

· Choose the Roll-Ups command from the View menu to open the Roll-Ups dialog box.

Undoing operations. If you make a mistake or change your mind about an operation you just performed, the Undo command will often reverse it. The Undo Levels setting in the Preferences dialog box determines how many consecutive actions you can undo and redo.

Actions you cannot undo in CorelDRAW:

· any change of view (zooming, scrolling etc.)

· any file operation (open, saving, importing etc.)

· any object selection operations

· any operation with the Grid or Guidelines.

To undo the last action you performed:

· Choose Undo from the Edit menu.

Immediately after using Undo, the Redo command becomes available, allowing you to restore what you just undid.

Repeating an action. You can use the Repeat command to repeat the last action you performed on the same object or on another object. For example, if you rotate an object, choosing Repeat rotates that object or another one you select by the same amount.

To repeat an action:

· Choose Repeat from the Edit menu.

Using Clipart. CorelDRAW comes with libraries of ready-to-use clipart images and symbols. The collection of over 22, 000 clipart images is provided in uncompressed format on CD ROM disk #1. You may want to browse through the CorelDRAW Clipart manual before importing clipart into your drawing.

To access clipart from the CD ROM:

1. Place the CD ROM disk # 1 in your CD ROM drive.

2. Choose Import from the File menu in CorelDRAW.

3. In the List Files of Type box, choose All Files (*.*).

4. In the Drives box, choose the drive letter for your CD ROM drive.

5. In the Directories box, double-click the Clipart directory. The clipart categories appear as subdirectories of the Clipart directory.

6. Double-click the category in which the clipart you want to import resides. (The category name appears at the top of each page in the Clipart manual.)

Select a clipart file from the File Name box and click OK. The clipart is imported into your drawing.

Starting and exiting CorelDRAW

You can start CorelDRAW from either Windows or the DOS command prompt. To exit the program, choose Exit from the File menu.

To start CorelDRAW from the Windows Program Manager:

1. Open the group window with the CorelDRAW icon.

2. Double-click the CorelDRAW icon.

To start CorelDRAW from the command prompt:

1. At the command prompt, type win coreldrw.

If an error message appears, the path statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file does not include the directory containing CorelDRAW. Change to the CORELDRW directory and try again.

To exit CorelDRAW. Choose Exit from the File menu.

Installing options with the Setup program. You can run the Corel Setup program to install any items you did not to install when you first set up CorelDRAW.

To install options with the Setup program:

1. Insert the CorelDRAW Setup disk (disk 1) in your floppy disk drive. Or, if you have a CD-ROM drive, insert the CorelDRAW CD-ROM disk.

2. From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.

3. Type the drive letter followed by :\setup, and then choose OK.

4. When the opening Setup screen appears, choose Continue.

5. From the CorelDRAW Installation dialog box, choose the Custom Installation button.

6. From the Destination Path dialog box, choose the Continue button.

7. Choose the Some option next to the application for which you want to install options. Or, choose All to install all options for an application you are installing for the first time.

8. If you selected Some, another dialog box appears, where you choose the options you want to install.

9. Clear all other check boxes for the options you don't want to install.Click the Continue button, then follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Displaying a drawing in editable preview. Editable preview is the default view you'll probably use to create and edit most of your drawing. It shows outlines, fills (except PostScript textures and halftone screens), and text attributes as they will appear when printed.

To display drawings in editable preview. In CorelDRAW choose Wireframe from the View menu, or click the icon in the ribbon bar.

Drawing curves in Freehand mode. To draw curves in Freehand mode, you drag the mouse as you would a pencil on paper. When you finish drawing, nodes appear at points along the curve. Moving the nodes and their control points with the Shape tool allows you to change the shape of the curve.

To draw curves in Freehand mode.

1. Choose the Pencil tool.

If you don't see the Freehand icon,, select it from the flyout menu displayed by holding the mouse button down on the Pencil tool.

2. Draw the curve by dragging the crossbar along the desired path.

To backtrack, erase part of the path you have drawn by holding down the SHIFT key while continuing to drag. When you release the SHIFT key, you will resume drawing your line.

3. When you reach the end of your curve, release the mouse button.

You'll notice a pause while CorelDRAW determines where to position the nodes along the curve you have just drawn.

To draw a second curve connected to the first, start dragging from the endpoint of the last segment.

To connect the line segments, you must click within five pixels of the endpoint. You can adjust this five-pixel threshold by choosing Preferences from the Special menu, clicking on the Curves button, and specifying a pixel value in the AutoJoin box.

Previewing a drawing. In CorelDRAW the Show Preview command removes everything but your drawing from the screen. You cannot edit your drawing in preview mode.

To save time on screen redrawing, you can preview just the selected object(s).

To preview a drawing:

· Choose Show Preview from the View menu.

To return to normal view:

· Press any key.

To preview selected object(s) only:

1. Select the object(s) you want to preview. Choose Preview Selected Only from the View menu.

In a single race the player selects the opposing car, while all cars compete in a tournament and at the start of a knockout race. There is also two playing styles arcade or simulation. Arcade mode improves handling while simulation mode is intended to provide more realism. The number of laps can be chosen from two, four or six. A tournament race involves playing all tracks in order with the starting track able to be selected. Only after successfully completing a tournament in first place can knockout races can be played. Knockout races involve racing two laps over each of the six tracks with a number of opponents.

The most extreme upgrade in Need for Speed II Special Edition is the so-called works conversion that creates a true racing car, including a brand new cockpit and completely new driving characteristics. Gran Turismo 5 had a similar but less extensive feature that allowed a conversion of certain cars, unfortunately that was limited to less than 15 models In Shift 2 almost all road cars can be converted to racing vehicles.

One of the best things that happens in Need for Speed II Special Edition is the first pre-race drive around, which allows the game to test the performance of the player, starting with whatever settings he wants, in order to then propose a better selection of options, better suited to the skills one has.

Despite being at the very beginning of Need for Speed II Special Edition, it's one of the toughest races of the whole Need for Speed and can be really frustrating for newcomers, especially if one is trying to win it outright. After doing quite badly a couple of times, I just let go of trying to win and just got through the race to get to the career progression. Going with the flow and learning to only get the minimum result for progression is a must for anyone who plans to spend a lot of time with the new Need for Speed.

Need for Speed 2 makes it pretty clear that Electronic Arts is looking to split its premiere racing franchise into two very distinct lines, one dealing with the road-racing experience, complete with the concept of an open world and police chases, and another one that is more simulation focused and is more interested in the pilot's experience.

In Need for Speed II Special Edition it doesn't really feel like there's a huge amount of down force on the cars they seem to just glide, rather than feel rooted to the track. It's not a huge problem when using the slower cars, as you can compensate quite easily. But when you're using the faster cars and you want to go flat-out, it just doesn't work that well. If you make a slight compensation to correct your line, the car will sway way more than it should, meaning you then have to further compensate. If you're playing in a first-person mode, this might seem rather confusing, but if you switch to a behind the car view, it makes a bit more sense. Even when you're going around a very minor-grade corner, without applying much torque, the back of the car will still slide out slightly and it's this that initially causes the need to compensate a downward spiral. When going around a standard corner, the car will almost always slide out to some degree. The physics are all there, as shown by the amended camera you can use, but it doesn't stop you feeling like you have very little control of the car.

Midtown Madness is a racing gaming developed for Windows by Angel Studios and published by Microsoft. Unlike many racing games, which restrict the player to a race track, Midtown Madness offers an open world recreation of Chicago. Players can explore the city via one of several modes, and can determine the weather and traffic conditions for each race.

Midtown Madness features four single-player modes Blitz, Circuit, Checkpoint, and Cruise. In Blitz, the player must reach a destination within a time limit; in Circuit, the player races other vehicles; in Checkpoint, the game adds the complication of other traffic, such as police cars and pedestrians; and in Cruise, the player simply explores the city. Players have a choice of up to ten vehicles, although only five are available at the start. To unlock the other cars, players must achieve goals such as winning a certain number of races etc. Midtown Madness supports multiplayer games via local area network, Internet, or serial cable connection.

Midtown Madness puts you in the driver's seat, straps you in, and lets you know you're in for something special. Midtown Madness is set in a cleaner, friendlier Chicago. Cars actually signal before changing lanes, wait at reds, and obey traffic laws. You'll get a dose of reality however if you cut someone off, drive too close, or run into them, with the other drivers hurling insults and exclamations your way. The non-player drivers do act like normal motorists, ignorant to most of the stuff happening around you. If you're racing, however, you'll be looking to outsmart your opponents, not just outdrive them. Opponents will split off on side streets trying to find shortcuts, attempt to bang into you to knock you out of commission, and try everything in their power to get across the finish line first.

In Midtown Madness car damage is slightly realistic. After the player crashes into traffic cars, police cruisers or opponent's cars, there is a visible damage on the car. After too many collisions, the car's tire starts to spin in the wrong way. After another few collisions, the tire will pop out and the car will remain unusable for a few seconds, before it regenerates, except in Checkpoint Races, in which it results in Game Over. This is same for police cruisers, there is no evade or bust meter, you can only destroy them to evade them. I love Midtown Madness.

Midtown Madness requires some pretty powerful hardware in order to look its best, and even at its best it doesn't look as good as it might have and often suffers from choppy frame rates. With all its options turned on, the vehicles look nice and shiny although at times a little too flat. They get damaged in Midtown Madness when they run into things, although this effect isn't entirely convincing either. Other details really stand out, like the bright traffic lights and the different weather and time conditions that manage to evoke a particular beauty about the city through their sheer variety. But while it's great to see Chicago's landmarks and its smaller streets modeled so carefully, it's too bad that most of the storefronts in the game are generic and often repeated, even on the same block. Thus Midtown Madness approaches, but doesn't actually reach, that meticulous level of realism and detail that driving games must necessarily strive for.

In Midtown Madness one of the main drawbacks, however, was that the map was the same for the whole game. You started and finished and took different routes throughout the city, but it would have been nice to go in some other settings. I can predict a slew of Midtown Madness add-ons in the near future.

Midtown Madness was plain fun to play. I didn't need force feedback to shake while playing. I used the Microsoft Freestyle Pro joystick, which allows you to physically move the joystick to move the car. Turn the joystick right, the car moves with you. I found control extremely smooth and the cars easy to maneuver. If you like on road racing you should try Need for Speed II special Edition.

Tekken 3 is the third installment in the popular Tekken fighting game series. The first two Tekken games were huge hits, and were both great reasons to play. Tekken 3 brings us more of that great action, with some of the old characters, and also some new ones. With lots of cool modes, and secret characters, Tekken 3 is known by most people as the best fighting game for the Play station.

Tekken 3 maintains the same core fighting system and concept as its predecessors, but brings many improvements, such as significantly more detailed graphics and animations, fifteen new characters added to the game's roster, more modern music and faster and more fluid game play.

The graphics in Tekken 3 look excellent. With some really nice quality FMV's, and detailed polygons, everything looks great. Also some really cool character design, with some old favorites like Yoshimitsu, Jin, Law, King

Tekken 3 is filled with lots of characters who each have their own unique style of fighting. It's up to you to master the combos and techniques of the various fighters. The amount of secret characters I believe is a few more than the default amount, totaling to somewhere around 23

Really good 2 player action. The arcade mode includes a 1 player and 2 player modes, so you can fight against your friends with all the characters that you've found and earned. It's a whole lot of fun doing the vs mode.

Not much stands between Tekken 3 and a perfect 10 score. If the PlayStation exclusive characters were better and Force mode a bit more enthralling, it could have come closer to a perfect score. Needless to say, Tekken 3 is the best PlayStation game to come along in a long time, and this one won't be topped anytime soon.

Tekken 3 presents itself incredibly well. The sound effects are terrific, and the music is nothing short of amazing. From a graphical standpoint, Tekken 3 can't be beat. While the polygon count may have been slightly reduced and the backgrounds made 2D, it still looks absolutely incredible. It is definitely the high water mark for graphics on the PlayStation.

Tekken 3 continues the trend of the first two games with sweet characters, and awesome graphics and game play. There are tons of secret characters, and a few secret modes. This is my favorite fighting game for psx, and I bet that most other fighting games fan will enjoy it a ton as well. If fighting games are your thing, you'll love Tekken 3. The Story Behind the Tekken 3 Game

In Tekken 3 a fifteen years after the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 2, the story starts with Jun Kazama, who has been living a quiet life in Yakushima with her young son, Jin, who is the son of Kazuya Mishima. She takes care of him, trying to leave him out of the world of the Mishima Zaibatsu Corporation.

Heihachi Mishima, meanwhile, has established the Tekken Force, an organization dedicated to the protection of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Using the company's influence, Heihachi is responsible for many events that have ultimately led to world peace. However, while on an excavation in Mexico, a squadron of Heihachi's Tekken Force is attacked and vanquished by a mysterious being. The only surviving soldier manages to relay a brief message to Heihachi, describing the perpetrator as an "Ogre" or a "Fighting God". Heihachi and a team of soldiers investigate, with Heihachi managing to catch a glimpse of the culprit. After seeing the Ogre character, Heihachi's long dormant dream of world domination is reawakened. He seeks to capture Ogre to use him for this goal.

Soon after, various martial arts masters begin disappearing from all over the world, and Heihachi is convinced that this is Ogre's doing. In Yakushima, Jun starts to feel the presence of Ogre approaching her and Jin. Knowing that she has become a target, Jun tells Jin about Ogre, and instructs him to go straight to Heihachi should anything happen. Sometime after Jin's fifteenth birthday, Ogre does indeed attack. Against Jun's wishes, Jin valiantly tries to fight Ogre off, but Ogre brushes him aside and knocks him unconscious. When Jin reawakens, he finds that the house has been burned to the ground, and that his mother is missing and most likely dead.

Driven by revenge, Jin goes to Heihachi and tells him everything. Jin begs Heihachi to train him to become strong enough to face Ogre again. Heihachi accepts and takes Jin in as well as going to Mishima High School where he befriends Ling Xiaoyu and her pet panda and bodyguard (aptly named "Panda"). They become good friends.

Four years later, Jin grows into an impressive fighter and master of Mishima Style Karate. On Jin's nineteenth birthday, the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 3 is announced, and Jin prepares for his upcoming battle against Ogre. He is unaware, however, that Heihachi is merely using him and the rest of the competitors as bait to lure Ogre out in order to capture him. Meanwhile Ogre captures assassin Nina Williams (who was recently taken out of her "cold sleep"), puts her under his spell,and sends her to enter the tournament and kill Jin. Jin manages to free Nina from Ogre's spell before continuing on the semi-finals.

Unfortunately, Jin loses to Paul Phoenix, who goes on to defeat Heihachi, and even the God of Fighting. However, as Paul leaves victorious, Ogre consumes Heihachi's and transforms into a much more powerful "true" form, known to the players as "True Ogre", leaving Jin to fight the evil monster himself. Jin emerges the victor and Ogre completely dissolves. Moments later, Jin is gunned down by a squadron of Tekken Forces led by Heihachi, who, no longer needing Jin, finishes the job personally by firing a final shot into his grandson's head. However, Jin, revived by the Devil Gene within him (because after Jin's mother had gone missing following an attack from Ogre, Devil returned, branded Jin's left arm with a mark, possessing him), reawakens and makes quick work of the soldiers, turning his attention to Heihachi and literally smashing him through the wall of the temple. Heihachi survives the long fall, but Jin, in mid-air, sprouts black, feathery wings and strikes Heihachi one last time. He then flies off into the night, leaving his bewildered grandfather staring after him. If you like to play with weapons as I you should try IGI 2 convert strike.

IGI 2 Convert Strike is a computer game developed by Innerloop Studios and released by code masters in 2003. IGI 2 convert strike gives you control of David Jones, an ex-army man recruited by IGI (Institute for Geotactical Intelligence). IGI 2 Convert Strike is a group of highly trained elite warriors, controlled by the private sector and founded by Senator Pat Lenehan.

The mix of action and stealth in IGI is a pretty good one. You can mark it somewhere in between Splinter Cell and an action shooter. While it's possible to complete most levels by running through shooting everything that you see, it's insanely difficult. Enemy AI are incredible shots (marking my first AI complaint) and can hit you from a few hundred feet with an Uzi. So in order to get through most of the missions, you'll need to resort to stealth and planning. This is how the game was designed to be played and it works well in most cases.

In IGI Convert Strike game you play an agent recruited into the Institute for Geotactical Intelligence, a covert organization set up after the cold war to fight terrorism and basically kick full tilt boogie for freedom and justice. Your name is Jones, David Jones. I use that James Bond affectation deliberately because the story and parts of the game are clearly inspired by 007 which isn't bad company to keep. The plot is pushed along at a frighteningly fast pace with cut-scenes played between the missions, as soon as a character is introduced they will attempt to kill, aid or betray you almost instantly. Despite all the twists and turns it also comes across as rather stale.. The voice acting is well done throughout and some of the sequences are excellent, particularly the ones where you fly in or out of a mission showing off the landscape as you hover down a valley.
