If you have further interest, these sites can be found by studying the two advertisements to the right of this blog. Or, you can go directly to those sites by clicking here, or instead at this site.

Once again, Ms. Britney Spears finds herself in the media spotlight. By now, half the world has witnessed on many television replays, (or on the Internet through hundreds of YouTube postings), Britney's disastrous performance at the annual MTV music awards a few weeks ago. If her performance, which opened up the awards show, was intended to be her comeback into the music industry, it revealed that she has a long ways to go. Instead, Britney was widely criticized for her apparent weight gain, the poor dance and singing routine performed with backup artists which was out of sync, the lack of practice to prepare for a performance so poorly done, and the fact that she was obviously lip-syncing the words - and out of kilter even at that task. Just as the Fox network had to go to an unexpected commercial break to cut off Sally Field's irrational acceptance speech at the recent Emmy Awards to censor her choice of profanity; the MTV channel should have gone to a commercial break to spare Britney the embarrassment of making herself look so inept as a performer as she did during the music awards telecast. And for Britney, many people now look upon her with ridicule and scorn as she has become a laughing stock to many music lovers in this world.

In further news this week concerning Ms. Spears, the pop singer was in court as part of her ongoing child custody case with her ex-husband Kevin Federline regarding their two young children. In his recommendations, Superior Court Judge Scott M. Gordon ruled rather harshly against Britney. Perhaps in the end, this will help Ms. Spears face those inner demons that continue to trouble the young lady. To be honest, unless Britney comes to grips with her personal issues involving drinking and drug usage, the final outcome could be a tragic one for her as an individual. And by that, I mean she won't be living on this Earth anymore to even witness her young kids growing up through their adolescent years into adults, themselves. She'll instead be residing permanently, tragically, in a cemetery plot - just as millions of other people have finally ended, well before their time here on this Earth, when they were unable to control their drinking or drug dependency.

Judge Gordon issued the following proclamations in his decision to even allow Britney partial custody of her two young boys - Sean and Jayden.

1). Britney, for the foreseeable future must be tested twice per week for signs of drug dependency. This decision was made by the judge because, in his opinion, Britney is so obviously still a habitual user of illegal drugs and alcohol. She must also participate in a mandatory drug rehab program.

2). Both Britney, and her ex. Kevin Federline cannot drink or use drugs around their children. Also, there must not be signs that either one has engaged in the use of alcohol and drugs at a time 12 hours prior to either one having custody of them. (Personally, I find this proclamation to be absurd. If there are signs that either parent has taken either drugs, or has signs of continued alcohol dependency, they should not be allowed near their kids, period. I don't care if it is 12 hours, 12 minutes, 12 seconds, or 12 weeks. They lose the right to be within 12 miles of their kids, case closed).

3). Apparently, there is history on her part of Britney's physically abusing her kids. Judge Gordon issued a decision that Britney cannot, in the future, use corporal punishment to discipline her children. The judge declared that Britney must meet for 8 hours per week with a parenting coach who would also observe how Ms. Spears interacts with her kids. This official will then follow through with regular reports back to the court about his/her observations of Britney's interactions with her sons. If there are signs of further abuse, Britney loses all custodial rights to visit, or be near her kids.

It is obvious to any thinking individual that Britney Spears has a lot of emotional and psychological issues that she is continuing to deal with. It has been reported in the media within the past two weeks that the producer of the hit show "American Idol" is looking for a way to have Britney appear on the show this coming season - possibly as a judge, (who would she replace, Paula)? This producer claims that he "cares for Britney", and that this will be a way to jump-start her career within the music industry again.

Pardon me, but in my opinion any appearance on "American Idol" is absolutely, positively the last thing that Britney needs to be a part of at this time in her life! It is my belief that Britney needs to get her house in order. That has to be her priority right now that she devotes 100% of her energy on. Britney needs help to stop her chemical and alcohol dependency. Again, this must be done right now before something tragic happens to this young lady, (or if she is to operate a vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol she puts other people on the road at risk). It also wouldn't hurt Britney to give up the nicotine habit, either. Anyone who is a cigarette smoker must know that you stand the high risk that you will die prematurely of either heart and/or lung disease, emphysema, or anyone of a dozen types of cancers - all associated with years of nicotine addiction and tar intake into one's body. I have had relatives in my extended family who were 25-30 year, life-long cigarette smokers; all of whom died painful deaths prematurely because of diseases associated with smoking. Besides that, Britney sends the wrong message to her own kids, and fans who are still devoted to her, about smoking.

Part of the problem is that I fervently wish that the media would leave this young lady alone. There also has to be an emotional burden on Britney with the fact that everything she does, and everywhere she goes, the young lady is trailed by a horde of media personnel with cameras and microphones. As I stated in a previous article about Britney Spears, part of the problem is society's incessant need to have juicy gossip about celebrities. Take a hint folks, what if it was you who unfortunately had the same problems of a Britney Spears, or a Lindsey Lohan? Would you like it if, as soon as you stepped 2 feet outside of your home, you had 100 media personnel, and paparazzi all over you like a pack of wolves about to feast on you? These people are human beings, and are imperfect. Like you and me.

Although I do not consider myself a fan of Britney Spears, as a Christian person that I try to be, I only hope that she is able to straighten out her personal life. She has greater odds of succeeding if she remains out of the limelight, (meaning no more appearances in the nearby future on music award shows); and if everyone just leaves her alone!

I welcome any comments to this post. Don't forget to visit those two sites if you are interested in finding sources for music downloads to your portable listening device! Please understand that with both sites you must join their membership list to take advantage of what they have to offer with regards to downloading material to your portable listening or viewing device, (both ipods and mp3 players).

Once you become a member, you can take advantage of everything that both sites have to offer. And as a member, the ability to download material to your portable device is free and for a lifetime.

Free Movies and Music

The first site that I will review is entitled "Free Movies and Music" and can be found by clicking here on this link. In an earlier article posted on this blog, I did an in-depth review of this site. They consider themselves the #1 ranked download site worldwide on the net. Membership costs $49.95, and is a one-time only fee. Membership is for a lifetime.

Once you join you are entitled to unlimited downloads for your portable device. The downloads are both mp3 player and ipod compatible.

* The site boasts of having over 15 billion files available for you to choose as far as downloading.

* With your membership, the site guarantees that there are no content, time, or bandwidth limits as regards to downloading files. There are also no "per song" downloadable fees.

This site has a system in place for people to get the most benefits from their membership.

1. Members can download movie, music, and video game files to their devices. All files are available to members 24/7. Again, there would be no additional fees, "per song" downloads.

2. Members then play their favorite music, movies, and games on their portable devices. Or,

3. One can burn an unlimited number of CD's for free. From there members can download music, movies, and video games right to their PC's.

Basically, this is a recommended site for anyone who is seeking out music, movie, and video game files for their mp3 players or ipods. However, there are a few things not offered by this site, that is a part of the basic service with the next site in comparison. Please read on.

Feedmyipods

This site, entitled "Feedmyipods" is a site which also calls itself the #1 ranked site on the net.I will not debate which statement is true, after all they both cannot be #1. However, "feedmyipods" can be found on the net by clicking here. Membership to this site is slightly lower in cost compared to the first site, coming in at $38.95, which also is a one-time only lifetime fee.

As opposed to the first site, however, the cost for joining membership at "feedmyipods" comes with a 58 day money-back guarantee. If within the 58 day period you are dissatisfied with what this site has to offer, you are entitled to a complete refund of your membership cost. This is not offered at "Free Movies and Music", or at least it is not mentioned anywhere on the site, even after you are redirected to the "join membership" page.

"Feedmyipods" offers the same membership benefits as the first site. You are guaranteed the ability to download as much content to your portable device as you want without content, time, or bandwidth limits. There are no "per song" downloadable fees. Although the title of the site suggests that this service is intended for users of ipods, all files are completely mp3 player compatible.

As opposed to the first site, which boasted of having 15 billion files available in their system to download, "feedmyipods" only has 95 million files available. That is still a huge selection to choose from by their members.

As opposed to "Free movies and music" however, this second site offers features on their website, which to me are valuable in helping one to decide to actually purchase a membership. Right from their home page, "feedmyipods" offers contact and support help, as well as a FAQ section for one who might be seeking assistance to questions about membership to the site. This service is not offered at "Free movies and music", at least before you make the choice in becoming a member. I failed to see a contact, support help, or FAQ section on the "Free movies and music" site anywhere. You more or less have to go on blind faith that the company is truthful in everything that they offer.

There are people, however, who need to have as much info. as possible before they purchase anything. "Feedmyipods" seems to understand that concept, allowing you to contact them with any questions that you might have to help you in making the decision to become a member.

At both sites, online payment is completely secured. Both sites state in writing that your personal information, and email address are not shared with anyone.

I hope that this review of download membership sites was of help to people who enjoy music, movies, and video games for their portable devices.

This blog is connected to other blogs found by clicking here, and also here.

music downloads

download free music

Jeffman (J. This site can be found by clicking here.

The site has over 15 billion files available in the categories of music, movies, and video games. For a very reasonable one-time only fee that costs less than $50, you get lifetime membership to this site. Once a member you can download anything that you want. There are no time, bandwidth, or content limits. There are no "per song" downloadable fees. You can download mp3's and movies to your PC and then burn them to a CD or DVD. There is a reason that this site is considered the #1 Music and movie site on the net worldwide. So, what are you waiting for?

Britney Spears

An article posted at Yahoo.com hit the description on the head correctly when analyzing Britney Spears' opening act to the MTV awards last night. The article described Ms. Spears' performance as "the train wreck that happened". I watched Britney's performance last night only because it was being hyped as crucial to the young diva's comeback within the entertainment industry. After 5 minutes of watching an overweight, paunchy Britney attempt to dance, shake her "booty" and lip-sync to the words of her song that she was performing, my advice to her is that she still is not ready for that big time comeback to jump-start her career again.

I could never understand the public fascination with this young lady, ever since she emerged as the innocent girl-next-door type, back in the late 90's. Britney, then had the sweet, naive, and pure image about her, and she became an idol to young teens, and pre-teen kids. Discarding the fact that Britney basically never could sing well, millions of girls and boys under the age of 15 still worshipped her. Britney's albums, combined with the merchandising of Britney dolls, clothes, and games bought by her adoring fans all over the country made the young lady a multi-millionaire before she turned 18.

About 5-6 years ago, Britney purposely began to change her image to that of the naughty, street-wise young lady, one who attempted to ooze sexuality and spunkiness. The aim by Britney's management, then, was obviously for her to appeal to an older audience, (in the 18-22 year range), as Ms. Spears herself became a young woman. Along about that time, we began to hear stories of Britney getting married to a childhood friend, (which was annulled some 48 hours later), wild partying, drinking, and her habit of frequently lighting up the cigarettes in public - all acts designed to display the fact that Ms. Spears was no longer a 16 year old who just got her driver's license. We saw Britney lock lips at a previous MTV awards show with Christina Aguilara and Madonna. As I recall, this caused quite a stir at many water coolers in offices the next day around the US. A second marriage to Kevin Federline which eventually ended in divorce, also produced two off-spring. Federline in a still ongoing child custody battle, has declared Britney to be an unfit mother with her fondness for late night partying when, instead, she should be reading nursery stories and tucking her children into bed every evening. Britney was photographed by the paparazzi driving with her eldest son in the front seat of her car dangerously balanced on her lap, and also emerging from a limousine, (with her then, best friend Paris Hilton), revealing her fondness for not wearing panties. We also saw Britney decide to shave her hair completely off one day; this act symbolizing Ms. Spears' irrationale decision to "start her life over again".

Maybe the blame for Britney's downward spiral the past several years lies partially with the American public. As a society, perhaps our values are misplaced. We have always had a habit of placing certain people, celebrities, on a pedestal. We yearn to follow their everyday lives closely in wanting to know everything that they do, what they think, and feel, (one could call this being "nosey"). The paparazzi exists partially to fulfill the needs of ordinary people who want to know everything about celebrities, (Britney, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, etc.). Unfortunately, (and especially with the three just mentioned), not all "celebrities" come equipped to handle the trappings of fame. Being human beings and still young adults, some of these individuals show their immaturity, even in a public setting. And, their acts of silly, careless, and reckless behavior combined with their popularity, is often caught on camera for the world to see. Perhaps if we paid less attention to celebrities, and more to are own selves, everyone would be better off.

Britney Spears should never have been packaged as the next legend-to-be, some 7-8 years ago by people within the entertainment industry. The pressure to be the next "great" performer was a title that Ms. Spears would never have been able to attain. As her life has slowly unraveled, it is equally sad that so many people in our society seem to have taken so much pleasure in what became Britney's inevitable downfall.

I welcome any comments to this post! The album will be entitled "Magic". It is the group's first album since 2002, when the Grammy Award winning album "The Rising" was released. After several years of being essentially out of the limelight, it will be interesting to see if indeed Bruce and his E Street Ban still retains the magic that catapulted him to the top, beginning back in the 1980's within the rock music industry.

Springsteen's most famous album was the legendary "Born in the USA" recording which came out around 1984. The album was if not the best, certainly in the top 3 with regards to gross sales that entire decade. Many rock historians still consider this to be one of the top ten best albums ever recorded in the history of rock music. Throughout Springsteen's career and the volume of studio work that he recorded with the E Street Band, the rocker's popularity has always been enhanced by his legendary live concerts performed all over the globe. As many fans can attest, attending one of Bruce Springsteen's concerts live is a meaningful experience that reaches down to a person's very soul. Very, and I mean very few entertainers within the music industry are able to match the type of energy and enthusiasm whenever Springsteen performs live. There is that old saying about talking the talk, then walking the walk. A lot of musicians can talk of how they perform in front of an audience and their attempts at inspiring their listeners. Well, Bruce Springsteen has been known to also walk that walk by reaching down to his audience in a way that very few performers are capable of doing successfully. One can have their so-called contrived performers, former American Idol winners who run around on stage shrieking lyrics to indecipherable songs. (Kelly Clarkson, anyone)? Very few performers, other than the legendary U2 rock group amongst others, creates the type of magic in a live performance comparable to the legendary Bruce Springsteen. No one!

Perhaps the title to this new album, "Magic" is a perfect description for what Bruce Springsteen has always meant to the countless millions of fans that have followed him throughout his long and distinguished career.

If one is interested in downloading the new single to Springsteen's yet unreleased album, (the song called "Radio Nowhere") it is available now by going to itunes. You can download the single to your mp3 player from that site.

I welcome any comments to this post. Once again, this type of music is taking a negative hit.

In an article published in the NY Times and written by Dan Frosch, police in the city of Colorado Springs, Colorado blame rap music for the recent outbreak of violence in the city. Where have we heard this before - rap music being tied with violence in a city located somewhere in the United States? It's not the first time that this association between rap music and crime have been connected. Nor apparently will it be the last time, either.

In Colorado Springs, there has been a sizable population spurt this decade. The city is home to various military installations as well as the center for various evangelical groups. One would think on the surface that this melding of various ethnic groups involved in the military combined with those of religious organizations would lead to harmonious relationships. But, this has not been the case.

The city has seen a dramatic increase in violence this year alone. There have been 19 reported homicides, versus a total that did not reach double figures all of last year. Police report that activities related to two night clubs in the city have led to outbreaks of violence on many occasions. These two night clubs, La Zona Roja and the Eden were the scene of two recent murders. These two night clubs exclusively feature rap music as the selection of choice to attract people into their establishments. Back in April at the La Zona Roja, a taxi driver was killed when hit by a stray bullet fired when two rival gangs decided to settle their differences in the street outside the club. At the Eden, a former star football player was killed also when two gangs decided that gun play would be the answer to settle their differences in an argument. It was believed that the ex-football star was a prominent member of one of the gangs.

Followers of rap music in Colorado Springs cried the word "bigots" in response to action taken by the police against the wave of crime that has gripped the city in 2007. Law enforcement authorities released a statement to the press that this form of music had poisoned the minds of many in the community. The police statement decried the negative connotations within the lyrics present in many rap songs. These lyrics state the necessity for violence, crime, and the abusive treatment of women as a way for individuals to "express themselves". Indeed, the Eden was planning to stage an event at the club, promoting it as the "Pimp, Thug, and Ho Party". The event was cancelled before hand when law enforcement authorities guaranteed the heavy presence of police would be in place had this party occurred.

To people who follow rap who choose to defend this form of music, you need to wake up and get your heads out of the sand. Basically this type of music is guilty of the negative images portrayed in a majority of its songs. The more popular and prominent rap artists mention the necessity of violence as well as the abusive treatment of women in order for one to maintain "respect" as an individual amongst others. To followers of rap music, indeed it is a cardinal sin if one has been "disrespected" by another human being. In order for one to initiate some form of retaliation against this "dis", the answer often comes in the form of pulling out a semi or automatic weapon of some kind in order to send back a "message". The perpetrator of this violence would probably agree that his methods might end up putting the other person in a hospital or a morgue, but at least he got his "respect" back. It's amazing how stupid and Neanderthal-like the mindset of certain individuals are within our society.

I have mentioned rap music in past posts to this blog, (Aug. 23rd in an article about the rapper 50 Cent attempting to change his image). Prominent African-American leaders such as the Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have railed against executives within the music industry. Jackson and Sharpton believe that many of these executives, ( many of whom, themselves, are of color) heavily promote this type of music, and the artists who perform this music. Religious leaders also decry against the frequency and usage of the "N"-word prevalent in the lyrics of many rap songs. While many individuals, such as myself, are offended with the connotations associated with this word, (and its historical meaning in this country), many African-Americans, sadly use this word as slang profusely. Too often, rap music glorifies this disgusting, filthy word. Rap music fans then believe, incorrectly, that it is therefore accepted practice for them to use this term as commonly as others within their everyday language. Many of these ignorant African Americans are clueless as to the damage that they do to themselves as a race when the "N"-word comes out of their mouths hundreds of times, daily.

What is clear is that something substantial needs to be done in addition the efforts of people like Sharpton and Jackson. What has happened in Colorado Springs this year, is only a microcosm if what has been occurring all across this country. The association between rap music with gang violence, homicides, and domestic violence against women is crystal clear in their connectivity. One would have to be blind as a bat not to see it. Either that, or individuals are in complete denial as to the damage that it is doing to our society.

I welcome any comments to this article. The song is called "Tattoo". Ms. Sparks has also announced that in November she is set to release her first album, (yet untitled but which will have the "Tattoo" single amongst the selections) by the record company "19 Recordings/Jive", to which she is under contract. It seems as if Jordin, still in high school, is continuing her ascent up the ladder to success which began last fall when she first auditioned in Seattle, WA. for the Fox television hit show.

Before posting to this blog, I was able to listen to the recording of Jordin's song "Tattoo". The lyrics tell of a young woman who has broken off a relationship with a guy who has hurt her, and she realizes that she must move on in her life. She realizes that moving on is for her own good, yet thoughts of the times that she spent with this guy remain "within her heart like a tattoo". Obviously gone, but not forgotten. Ms. Sparks rendition of her song is well sung, and will no doubt be popular with her fans. I'm not going to rush out, however, and nominate "Tattoo" for the Grammy "Single of the Year" as it is a type of love song that are a dime a dozen in today's music recording industry. What famous singer/entertainer during his/her career has not released a song about being in love, followed by the painful breakup? Stories such as this have been sung in lyrics to songs, recorded thousands of times since Elvis Presley was in the hearts of teen aged girls back in the mid 1950's.

Once Jordin's first album is released in several months, it will be interesting to see not only how the public reacts to the recording, but how the young lady's management team guides her early career path. Since the "American Idol" phenomenon first started earlier this decade, not all of the "Idol" winners have gone on to dominate the music industry. For instance, has anyone heard from Rueben Studdard, (the 2nd "Idol" winner) lately? Studdard appears to have completely disappeared, compared to others within the music entertainment industry.

"Idol" is nothing but a popularity contest anyway, (being able to dial a toll-free # a hundred times, repeatedly, to cast one's votes for his/her favorite "Idol" proves that the show is somewhat of a sham to begin with). Many people, including myself felt that based on performance during this season's run, Jordin Sparks was not the best singer of all the final contestants. People with an educated background in music, for the most part, agree that Melinda Doolittle should have been this year's Idol winner. But, it is all water under the bridge now. Jordin Sparks projected a wholesome, perky, and cute image more than any other contestant. So, in the end Ms. Sparks won the annual popularity contest amongst "Idol's" millions of viewers. Don't feel sorry for the runners-up however. Last week, it was announced that Blake Lewis will release his first album soon. I'm sure that Melinda Doolittle, who had experience as a back-up singer with well-known acts before "Idol", will debut her initial album as well. All three - Jordin, Blake, and Melinda will not have to worry about money anytime in the near future. Jordin, not yet 18 should also be considering applications to colleges in her immediate future, as well.

Beginning today, I am sure that millions of Jordin Sparks fans will be running down to their local mall to pick up a copy of her single "Tattoo". If I could say one thing to Ms. Sparks it would be to keep your head on straight. Don't let oily agents, out to make a buck themselves off of your talent, get their hands onto you - latching on to your fame. Listen to your parents, especially your father who is a former pro athlete, (a standout National Football League player who played most notably for the NY Giants), and who probably has an understanding of what lies ahead for you. Like football, the music industry is a business. People within the industry who seek to get close to Jordin might have other agendas besides being her "friend" and wanting to "guide" the young lady through her career. I am sure that Mr. Sparks knows from experience what needs to be done to help Jordin be successful within the industry; specifically with his daughter's financial future. Jordin probably needs to keep her inner circle as small as possible, and not let too many new "friends" whisper a lot of nonsense into her ears, purportedly to give advice.

I wish Jordin Sparks all the success in the world in her future not only with her budding music career, but in her life as well. I hope that Jordin will not be the girl in the lyrics of her song who gets her heart broken by others!

Download free music, and sites which you can join membership are available to the right of this article on my blog. I wonder if this commercial is also part of a campaign to help rehabilitate his image.

In the commercial, 50 Cent is seen walking onto a stage in preparation to conduct a major symphonic orchestra. As he steps on the conductor's podium, 50 Cent first takes a sip from the bottle of a brand of power soft drink. A voice-over reveals the information that 50 Cent has replaced the regular conductor and with the aid of this power soft drink is now prepared to lead the symphony in its rendition of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Not to be confused with renowned symphonic conductors such as Zubin Mehta or the late Leonard Bernstein, one could see that 50 Cent is utterly clueless as to the proper conducting rhythm based on the music. However, the orchestra begins the opening strains of this famous symphony work. Pretty soon, however the orchestra breaks into the tune of 50 Cent's most famous rap song "In the Club". Seeing some of the orchestra members, (including one string player) moving and jiving to the beat of the song is utterly hysterical. It appears to be almost incongruous; associating musicians used to performing orchestral works instead, as shown in this commercial, getting completely into a work from a rap artist. The person doing the voice-over concludes that the ingredients in the power soft drink has prepared 50 Cent to successfully undertake this mission; proving that anything is possible if the commercial viewers would start using this power drink as a part of their diet, as well.

I could not help but recognize the underlying meaning in having a controversial figure such as 50 Cent participate in something unexpected like this commercial. I wonder if the commercial was an attempt to tell us that people of different backgrounds can blend together for a common cause, (expecting a person like 50 Cent with his background to perform with a symphonic orchestra to the initial works of Beethoven is almost unfathomable)? Or, is it an attempt by the rapper towards changing the image that is linked to him within the music industry?

50 Cent has a history of portraying anger in his music through his lyrics that tell stories of violence, abuse of women, crime, and race relations. Many of his lyrics contain profanity, usage of the N-word, and degradation of women in general, (referring to them as B's, and "hos"). I am an African-American male. As one who was brought up by educated parents, I never could understand why people of color used the N-word so readily in their everyday language. My parents certainly didn't utter that word in front of my sister and me. I understand that the N-word is used as slang by a certain percentage of African-Americans. But, I fail to completely understand why that word comes out of their mouths as often as it does; and often in greeting other African-Americans. I will just chalk it up to ignorance and the fact that these folks do not completely understand the context in which the N-word was meant during the 17 - 1800's, before slavery was abolished. This word was certainly not meant as a compliment when a Caucasian slave owner addressed the Black individual that he owned, ordering him/her around as if he/she was some type of dog. Even today, while an African-American individual can greet another friend of his/her color with the N-word, there would be an entirely different reaction altogether if a Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, or Middle Eastern person greeted that same individual using that filthy, disgusting word. More likely, violence would ensue as the African-American individual would be prepared to give a "beat down" to the person who addressed them with that tone of language. The N-word is used prevalently in 50 Cent's rap music, and I for one find it reprehensible.

Back in the spring of this year, the noted radio" shock jock", Don Imus lost his prestigious syndicated job when he uttered a cruel joke on air during one of his morning shows, directed towards the Rutgers' University Women's basketball team. In particular, Imus addressed the African-American members of the team, calling them a bunch of (quote) "nappy-headed hos" (un-quote). (For more on this discussion as I addressed it on another blog that I post to, visit this link here). The Rev. Al Sharpton immediately got involved, imploring that Imus be severely reprimanded by his station for the remarks. Sharpton's involvement in the incident started an outrage across this country, in particular from non African-American individuals. They were clear in their feelings, expressing anger that Rev. Sharpton had once again got involved in an incident involving race, and one in which bigoted language was used to describe African-Americans. Some of these people wanted to know why Rev. Sharpton had not expressed anger and outrage at people of his own color when rap musicians, (like 50 Cent) used the same language in the lyrics of their music, in a sense knocking members of their own race? Why is it okay for certain African-American individuals to degrade each other with filthy, racist, degrading words out of the English language, yet when individuals of other ethnicities utter these same words towards African-Americans it becomes a case worthy of criminal prosecution?

The positive result of the Don Imus-Rev. Sharpton -rap music connection, started back in the spring with this incident; is that now, more attention has been given to this type of music within the industry. It is a fact that the negativity portrayed by artists like 50 Cent has led to many individuals being turned off by the image and thoughts that these musicians illicit in their songs. CD sales of rap albums within the past year has taken a nose-dive. The crystal clear message has been given by consumers of music to certain rap musicians that they had better start to clean up their acts. If they are unwilling to make any changes in the themes of their songs, then people will no longer buy their products. Indeed, the USA Today national newspaper had an article about rap music, just a few weeks. The article concluded that changes might already be taking place in the musical tastes of consumers in America, and that this trend could be permanent. It was mentioned in the article that last year, the CD album put out by the Disney company with music from the popular movie "High School Musical" completely dwarfed, in sales, those of all rap musicians combined! I believe that the 8 - 18 year old demographic individuals in this country stated their feelings about the type of music they now prefer. One can't help but conclude that adoloscents and teenagers, who make up a strong majority of individuals who buy music in this country, no longer prefer listening to a 50 Cent and his brand of music. (I also did a review of my thoughts concerning the debut of the "High School Musical 2" movie, earlier this week on this blog). I have a suspicion that when Disney releases the CD album to the music of the "High School Musical 2" movie, every kid under the age of 16 in this country will be running to his/her local mall to buy the album. I doubt that they would be making this trip to the store to buy any rap music, either. They probably would not even give it a thought!

It is no wonder that rap artists like 50 Cent might slowly be getting the message. Clean up your act, re-do your image, and stop insulting people with your profanity-laced music lyrics. 50 Cent's appearance conducting an orchestra in a commercial is but one attempt on the musician's part to re-do his image. Let us see if 50 Cent can also start giving people some respect in the message portrayed in his music, as well as reduce the amount of R-rated language in his lyrics.

For information about music download sites for your portable ipod, or mp3 player devices, please visit the links to the right of this page. As was stated in a noted national paper, stated by a columnist who previewed the movie, it was made for both children and adults to enjoy. As an adult, after watching the movie Saturday night I have to admit having a smile on my face when it ended. So often nowadays, movies leave one with an ambivalent feeling after viewing them. That is because we have become anesthetized to crime, violence, and sex as forms of entertainment designed to capture our attention spans. Because the Disney folks have done it right twice now, we know that a movie does not have to be PG-13 or R-rated to be judged well done.

The movie set an all-time ratings record for viewers under the age of 14 this past Friday. High School Musical 2 was the most watched television show in history for young people not old enough to get their driver's licenses. That is since the advent of television. It was the most watched television show of any kind this summer, (network or cable) since the prime-time season ended back in late May. Sorry, for you fans of stellar network shows "Big Brother 8", "America's Got Talent"or "Bingo" (the latter show lasting all of about 5 minutes on ABC) but HSM2 blew you completely out of the water when it came to the number of people watching your episodes.

The 2nd edition of High School Musical is much like the first HSM which made its debut in early 2006, (and probably has been shown on the Disney Channel hundreds of times since then because of its enormous popularity). You have the same setting - fictional East Side High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. You also have the same cast of characters. The Disney execs are after all not stupid. If "it ain't broke, don't fix it", is a famous saying. The scriptwriters for HSM2 decided to stick with what worked the first time - tie in a story with a strong morale point set to music, include choreographed dancing, a character that everyone will loathe who in the end gets her comeuppance, mix in an innocent love theme, and wrap it up in a nice bow with a happy ending. The Disney execs knows their young audience well so, to top it off during the commercial breaks they had the young cast members discuss how the movie was made, share inside secrets in the behind-the-scenes making of the movie, answered select questions sent in via video from their young fans, and did this all in a family-styled atmosphere, (the appearance being that the cast members were watching the musical together along with the rest of the country). This was a brilliant move by the Disney honchos!

Zac Efron, pictured above with Vanessa Hudgens, (his girlfriend in this G-rated movie) has become the heartthrob of many a teen aged girl under the age of 18 in this country. Just as with the original HSM, Efron's character is the central figure behind the story. In the first movie, Efron's character Troy is confronted with the dilemma of his commitment to the school's basketball team, (he is the team's best player and his father the coach) against his new found friendship with a girl, Gabriella, (played by Ms. Hudgens) and longing to participate in the school's musical. One remembers that the two were accidentally thrown together in a karaoke singing contest at a winter resort lodge during the holidays. When Gabby transferred to East Side High, one could see the handing writing on the wall that the two would eventually become a couple. But getting back to the conflict in the original HSM, Troy was almost forced to make a difficult choice. For selfish reasons, everyone expected Troy to honor his commitment to the team. Even his Dad became disappointed in Troy as he saw his "focus" towards basketball wavering, and at one point blaming his lack of attention towards sports because of his new relationship with Gabby. Troy feels conflicted as he doesn't want to do something just to please other people, (by committing solely to the basketball team). Instead, Troy wishes to do something for himself, (participate in the musical as well as play sports), and not do anything to endanger his budding friendship with Gabby. In the end, everything works out and, (with a little scheming from Gabby and others) he is able to do participate in both the championship game and eventually the musical, winning the one of the two lead roles with his girlfriend.
In this second movie, Troy is equally conflicted. It is the summer before his senior year in high school. Troy must begin to think of his future in college and the villainous character Sharpey, (played by Ashley Tisdale) sees an opportunity to scheme her way towards Troy and manipulate his heart towards her, and away from Gabby. Despite the fact that she is fully aware that Troy considers Gabby to be his girlfriend, this doesn't stop Sharpey in an attempt to seduce him towards her.

Side tracking for a moment, but am I the only person who did not see the underlying attempt to poke fun at a certain celebrity heiress who has been in the news, lately? Sharpey's character is all about the "bling" and having attention drawn towards herself. Even more so than in the original, Sharpey has the expectations that everyone who she comes in contact with, is there solely to placate her every wishes and desires. This was illustrated clearly in the scene in which Sharpey is driving her ridiculous looking, pink-colored Mustang convertible with her brother. When they reach their destination, (the family owned resort in which most of the film is centered) she hops out of the car with about 5 valet servants at the ready; eager to retrieve her pink luggage out of the car and handle her special pink carrying case which holds her miniature puppy, (and I was surprised that the dog was not dressed in pink as well). Sharpey orders the manager to find a shady spot for her car, (the resort located in the middle of the desert) and he replies that he will even if he has to plant a giant tree. While everyone-and-their-cousins wait on Sharpey, no one pays attention to her brother as he is left to retrieve his own belongings. The essence of a spoiled, bratty, self-absorbed heiress, and akin to the image of another young lady who is all about the "bling" and drawing attention towards herself - Paris Hilton. For whatever reason, when Sharpey's character was seen in the film, an image of Paris Hilton came across my mind.

Sharpey's ulterior motive throughout HSM2 is to steal Troy away from Gabby by bribing him, using the entrapment of money that her family possesses plenty of. Sharpey arranges for Troy to be given an upgrade over his kitchen job for which he was hired that summer, and at a much higher salary. She arranges for her father to name Troy the assistant golf club pro, to get him, (again through her father) in contact with a college basketball coach looking for talented recruits, and connections with members of the University's basketball team where Troy participates in practices. All she asks of Troy is that he sing a duet with her in the summer camp's annual talent show, (for which she has always won the award as best performer each year). Eventually, this creates a lot of friction between Troy and his high school friends and teammates, all of whom work menial jobs at the camp, and whom he spends little time with. It also creates a schism between Troy and Gabriella as she realizes, (and confronts him in one notable scene) that he has become a person whom she can no longer recognize. Gabriella also confronts Sharpey in one scene, blaming her for bringing about this change in Troy. Gabby also states to Sharpey in strong terms that her boyfriend is not some trophy to be won in a contest. She tells Sharpey that she can "have him" if it means so much to her. It is all too clear that the person who understands that life is not exclusively about competition and being deceitful, it is Gabriella. Sharpey is the phony individual. She is one who can never be trusted, she is out just for herself, and she is incapable of understanding how her behavior is destructive towards other people. At that moment, even though Sharpey has been put in her place by Gabby, she still is clueless as to the damage that she does to others because of her manipulative personality. All Sharpey believes at that moment, is that Troy will sing the all-important duet with her, as well as the fact that she believes that Gabby is now permanently out of the picture. Gabby also ends up quitting her job as swim instructor and lifeguard at the camp and leaves - telling Troy in a bittersweet musical duet that she had wanted her summer to be a special one; instead it had been ruined. It took awhile for Troy to understand that he was partially to blame for Gabriella's unhappiness.

However, all is well that ends well. Troy finally understands that one of the most important things in life is to be loyal to one's friends. While Troy does have to plan for the future, he realizes that he had disrespected those people who were truly important to him, his own peers some of whom he had known his entire life. While he honored his commitment to Sharpey in performing a duet with him, (many people would have blown her off in his place) he also coerced Sharpey into including his friends in the talent musical show as well, (she had originally told the lackey resort manager that any employers were not to be allowed in the talent show. In reality, this rule that she had concocted revealed Sharpey's lack of confidence that she had within her own being). And, in a happy ending that Disney is known for, Troy's girlfriend Gabby does return to the camp, surprising him in the midst of his performance by singing the special finale duet together with him. And in the penultimate final scene, Troy who had constantly been interrupted by unforeseen events, finally shares a sweet kiss with Gabby.

As I mentioned in a post last week previewing HSM2, Disney has provided kids all across America with a positive entertainment vehicle. Kids understand, and have come to love both HSM's not only for the message that it sends, morally in the storyline; but also for its attractive music and dance choreography. In the year 2007, with the negative messages sent by rap musicians and their lyrics, (which emphasize sex, drug usage, crime, and is littered with profanity and racist words) it is wonderful knowing that there is something positive in the entertainment industry striving, and succeeding in getting young kids' attention.
With the success of HSM and HSM2, I would bet the bank that a third edition will be in the works sometime in 2008. Even as an adult, I would be interested in seeing what becomes of Troy, Gabby, their friends, and even Sharpey as they graduate and prepare for life after high school.

I welcome any comments to this post! Please click on and review the sites located on the right side of this post if you are looking for music download sites that will offer you a massive amount of material for your portable devices, (ipods, mp3 players, or even PSP players).

Today, August 16th is also the exact 30th year anniversary of the passing of the great Elvis Presley. That summer of 1977, I was working up in Maine at a music camp, New England Music Camp as a counselor. I remember that someone had heard of Elvis' passing on the radio news, and it spread like wildfire throughout the camp. While Elvis was no longer the major influence within the music industry that he once was, (1977 being the heyday of disco music - "The Hustle," "You Could be Dancing" and other hits of the time; highlighted by John Travolta's performance in the movie "Saturday Night Fever") nevertheless everyone was saddened that Presley had left this Earth at the young age of 42. We also soon realized that the image that we all had of Elvis, (as seen in the above photo of a young, thin, and suave individual) was replaced by the man who had ballooned up in weight close to 300 lbs. and died essentially of cardiac arrest; his death, because of those facts, was that much more of a shock to us that summer.

In the mid 50's a young Southern man with dark hair, (which was originally dirty blond in color as I found out in my research; his hair obviously dyed to accentuate his appeal) took the United States by storm. Millions of teenage girls and young women in their 20's fell in love with a guy who gyrated his hips, accompanying his vocal singing with dance steps that caused them to swoon. Rock and roll music was then in its infancy. Elvis Presley, was probably the most influential figure that caused the explosion of this new music genre within the industry. I also learned that during Elvis' first appearance on the Sunday night "Ed Sullivan" variety show, close to 60 million people watched it live on television. The article that I researched for this post stated that by comparison "American Idol" the current phenomenon that captures the attention of many in this country, has only half the audience during its finale compared to the 1956 Elvis guest appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. So, in essence the very first "American Idol" was Elvis Presley. I seriously doubt that any singer who has captured the title of "American Idol" during the current show's run on television will ever have anywhere close to the impact that Elvis Presley had in the music industry during his lifetime; not Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Fantasia, or this year's winner Jordin Sparks. You could safely take that prediction to the bank!

I found some other interesting tidbits about the "King of rock and roll". Elvis, born in January of 1935 was actually a twin. His brother, tragically was still-born at birth however. His 3 Grammy wins for his massive collection of recordings were all in the gospel category; not in blues, country, or rock and roll for which Elvis is known more famously as a performer. In 1965, while in California, the Beatles visited Elvis in one of his homes at the time. An impromptu jam session soon took place involving Elvis singing, playing his instruments and jamming with the 4 boys from Liverpool, England which took place for several hours. The Beatles in 1965 were akin to what Elvis was back in the mid-50's when he became the phenomenon that millions of young people worshiped across this country. Just as Elvis today could be considered the greatest solo performer in rock and roll history, the Beatles were the greatest group of all time, based on the sheer volume of material that they released during their heyday atop the music industry. Could one imagine, in today's world of memorabilia collections, how valuable that recording would be of that session that day in '65, if such a recording existed today?

In addition to the sheer volume of music that Elvis recorded during his career, he also was an actor, appearing in many movies, (although to be honest many were forgettable, not to be confused with Oscar-caliber Best Picture movies). One movie that I have seen repeatedly on the AMC cable network is "Blue Hawaii" filmed in 1962. Part of the movie was actually filmed right on Waikiki Beach. I have been to Hawaii 5 times in my life starting in 1982, and my last visit out there was last fall, October 2006. Now if one has actually been to Waikiki lately, one knows that the main thoroughfare across the famous beach is lined with hotels, some of them luxurious, restaurants, and "ABC" souvenir stores, one almost every block. The famous Diamond Head looms over the city, and the view looking down from that point is spectacular, as I have climbed up that mountain twice. The Waikiki Beach of 1962 in "Blue Hawaii" does not even remotely resemble today's edition. While Diamond Head is seen in the movie, it is fascinating to see the almost complete non-existence of hotels, except for a few, on that same thoroughfare across from the beach in the film. As the saying goes, Waikiki over the last 40 years has become a prime destination for tourism; with people all over the world coming to see the sites, and lie on its famous sandy beach soaking in the sun.

The other point of the movie that I wanted to make, was the actress who played Elvis' character's mother in the film. The legendary Angela Lansbury, (later known for years as the amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher in her hit show "Murder, She Wrote in the mid 80's - late 90's) was in this role. She was not at all like her Jessica Fletcher character, or an infamous character she played in a movie released that same year, 1962, "The Manchurian Candidate," Ms. Lansbury playing an evil, villainous, and manipulative mother. Angela's "mother" to Elvis' character in "Blue Hawaii" dotted on him as if he was a 12 year old. The Elvis character reunited with a girl from the island that he had known previously, and initially Angela Lansbury's character disapproved of this girl as a possible wife for her son. Interestingly enough, Angela was actually less than 10 years older than Elvis Presley in real life. Attribute her performance and believability in her role as "mother" to good make-up which aged Ms. Lansbury during the film, as well as fine acting on her part. And, in the end of the movie, Elvis does marry the young lady with Ms. Lansbury's character's blessings.

As it is the 30th anniversary this month of the passing of Elvis Presley, there are a number of events planned to commemorate his life, especially on his Graceland estate property. Hundreds of thousands of Elvis fans will visit to participate in all of the events that have, or are taking place this month. His daughter, Lisa Marie has recorded one of his songs, "In the Ghetto" mixed with Elvis' rendition of the song, to make it appear as if they are performing it as a duo. All in all, the events of this month are to help us remember the greatness and vitality of one of the legends of music, Elvis Presley.

I welcome any comments to this post.

download free music
Elvis Presley

Jeffman (J. Still it is hard to avoid all of the hype concerning the debut of the new Disney movie "High School Musical 2" this Friday on the Disney channel. When the original High School Musical came out early last year, it became a hit movie within the industry. Not many people, beforehand, could have predicted the influence that this movie had all across the United States. Unlike most movies which when re-aired on television have their Neilson ratings diminish over time, it was not the case with "High School Musical." The ratings actually grew with each airing on the Disney channel. Indeed, just like the "Titanic" movie phenomenon in the late 1990's when teen aged kids, (girls especially) flocked to the theater to see Leonardo DiCaprio repeatedly, many kids have watched "High School Musical" again and again. Disney even began airing the movie with the song lyrics appearing on the screen so viewers could sing along to the music. It also allowed the two lead actors of the movie, (Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, pictured above) to become idols to adolescent fans all over America. Indeed Efron, appeared in another hit musical this summer "Hairspray", and I am sure that many 14-18 year old girls went to the movie just to see Mr. Efron. Another actress in the movie, Ashley Tisdale, (who is known for her appearance in the Disney television show "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody") released her debut solo album. The "High School Musical" CD grossed the most sales of any album released all of last year in this country. Disney broke the bank with sales of clothing merchandise, videos, toys, and dolls bought by "tweener" fans of the movie. High School music programs all across the United States produced theatrical performances of this movie. Who would have "thunk it", as the saying goes?
Actually with the power, clout, and influence that the Disney network has, especially with kids under 14; perhaps it is not so surprising that the "High School Musical" phenomenon spread like a virus across this country. Disney is known for producing movies that are suitable for kids. Parents do not have to worry about their children watching anything on the network that would prove to be embarrassing; graphic language, even the hint of sex, racy dialogue, violence, etc., are strictly off limits, naturally by the network. The original "High School Musical" theme, which merged the influences of music, sports, dancing, and a g-rated love story between two high school kids, had a very important message which everyone can relate to. This message was that if you have a dream in life, do not allow anything to prevent you from striving to achieve those dreams. Zac Efron's character was a star basketball player for his school's team. His father was the team coach and demanding of his son in his athletic pursuits. But Efron's character also yearned to sing, and to be in the high school's annual musical production. The young man was even willing to place his position as a character in the musical production ahead of his role on the basketball team; much to the chagrin of his father/coach. I believe the message was that a person, (a 16 year old high school student in this case) has to have as much believe in himself, (or herself) and be willing to follow his, (or her) dreams); without being swayed or influenced selfishly by others.
As I stated above, it was interesting to note how the original "High School Musical" movie had such an influence, even amongst high school students in this country. In an era in which many high school kids throughout this decade have been known to be fans of rap and hip-hop music, (along with their profane lyrics and degradation of females), the USA Today newspaper several weeks ago ran a front page story about the Disney musical/movie. This article discussed the positive influence that the movie had generated in America, and how the original CD released last year had dwarfed the sales of all other rap and similar music of that genre. Indeed rap albums released during the year 2006 had dropped substantially as many high school aged kids chose to invest their money in an album from a Disney movie. I hope that I am not naive in believing that perhaps teen aged kids are sending a message to the "50-Cent's" of the world. The message is that many 12-17 year old adolescents are suddenly being turned off by X-rated rap, foul-mouthed lyrics, and words to music that portray women as sexual objects; and for these women to be used and abused by men.
For that I say: Go "High School Musical"!! Even as an adult, I will probably have my television tuned to the Disney Channel this Friday at 8 pm. - when the "High School Musical 2" movie debuts. I'd watch that anytime over a rap concert in which the featured artist spews every swear word known to mankind when performing his/her songs!

I welcome any comments to this post!

download free music
High School Musical 2

Jeffman (J. If music is a part of your life, as it is with me, then you are constantly on the lookout for the latest in "tunes" for your portable device. The purpose of this site is to keep you informed of where you can get the latest music to download for free on the Internet. I will recommend several sites that you can visit then join to become a member. All of these sites have very reasonable one-time only fees, and all for under $50. Membership is then for a lifetime. Since this will be a music site, I will discuss the latest trends in music exclusively.

I am sure that you recognize the photo of one of the hottest musicians in the industry. Beyonce Knowles has skyrocketed to the top as far as album sales ever since her decision to embark on a solo career; Beyonce's once being a member of the recording group Destiny's Child. Besides her talents as a singer, this lovely young lady has hit the big time with her other ventures into modeling, as well as the recent opening of her own clothing and fragrance lines. Beyonce was honored through her grace and beauty earlier this year, being selected to pose on the cover of Sports Illustrated's annual Swimsuit issue. Quoting a saying that is used in sports, because of Beyonce's appearance in that issue, "It doesn't get much better than that"!

As far as recommended sites to join membership for music downloads, I will only recommend those sites in which you can have an unlimited amount of content available for you to download. You will never be limited in downloading only a set certain amount of content per week/month.
