In 1997, a pilot was filmed for a television series based on the film. Set in Brainerd, it starred Edie Falco as Marge Gunderson. Directed by Kathy Bates, the episode was shown during Trio’s 2003 Brilliant But Cancelled series of failed TV shows.

Buffy - Shadow / S05E08

Buffy’s mom has a shadow on her brain. It ends up being a tumor.

Giles and the gang are looking for Glory, then she shows up in the magic shop. Giles doesn’t know it’s her and sells her two items that should never be sold together, according to Anya. The gang realizes the woman was probably Glory.

Glory conjures a SNAKE to “see” where the key (aka Dawn) is. The snake is super campy and we laughed every time it appeared on the HDTV. It “sees” Dawn, but Buffy kills it before it can return to Glory and tell her where the key is.

The Funny: Anya says she didn’t want to start off her day with a slaughter and then notes that goes to show how much she’s grown!

Spike & Riley: Riley finds Spike in Buffy’s room, sniffing her sweater. Spike knows more than Riley about Buffy’s mom and tells Riley about their night at the bar. Riley gets mad and pushes Spike into the sunlight, with his blanket.

Riley is feeling less and less needed. He’s being compared to Angel. In the end, he lets a vampire bite him.. and then slays her. MESSED UP!

Buffy - Listening to Fear / S05E09

WTF, Riley? He’s letting a vampire feed off him and doesn’t kill her?!?

The gang is trying to fight evil without Buffy so she can be with her mom, who is going to have surgery for her tumor. A meteor crashes to earth with a Grueller, a demon summoned to kill people with mental problems (a side effect of Glory being in town). Ben the orderly is with Glory… he summoned the demon and says he’s been cleaning up after Glory his whole life.

Joyce is having emotional side effects with the tumor pushing on her brain… she keeps saying angry things. At one point, she realizes that Dawn is not her daughter but she needs to be protected… she mentions this to Buffy and Buffy confirms Joyce’s suspicions. So now Buffy, Giles, and Joyce know Dawn’s secret.

Joyce goes home until her surgery and the Grueller follows her. It attacks, but Dawn sees it and then Buffy fights it (Spike does too, as he’s lurking in the basement). Riley and the military arrive too late after Buffy & Spike killed the Grueller.

Buffy – Fool For Love / S05E07

Buffy is feeling vulnerable because a run-of-the-mill vampire nearly kills her. She has a playdate with Spike to learn how he killed two slayers.

Fantastic Spike flashbacks:

London, 1880: He’s a terrible poet known as William the Bloody awful poet. One listener says he’d rather have a railroad spike driven through his head than listen to the poems. Spike is rejected by a woman who says he’s “beneath her”.

Yorkshire, 1880: Angel is ready to kill Spike, because he’s out of control. He mentions a “slayer”, and Spike’s all, “What’s a slayer?”

China, 1900: We see Spike kill a slayer and he gets off on it (pissing off Buffy, but points out that she gets off on killing vampires).

New York, 1977: Spike looks like Billy Idol when he kills a slayer on a subway: Spike then explains that the key to his victories was that each Slayer has a death wish, and Buffy does too.

Spike misinterprets Buffy’s closeness and tries to kiss her. Then she tells him he’s “beneath her” and throws money at him. He cries and is clearly humiliated. He gets furious and goes to Buffy’s house with a shotgun, but finds her crying on her back porch. Instead he sits down and consoles her.

Angel – Darla / S02E07

Darla is starting to cave under the guilt for all the horrible things she did when she was a vampire. She calls Angel, who comes to get her. She asks him to turn her into a vampire, but he refuses.

In flashbacks, several important moments are shown: Darla’s vampire origins in 1609; Darla’s decision to leave the Master to be with Angelus in 1760; Angelus, Darla, and Drusilla’s first meeting with Spike in 1880; Darla, Spike, and Drusilla’s destruction of a Gypsy camp in retaliation for them cursing Angel with a human soul in 1898; Darla’s attempts to bring Angel back to evil during the 1900 Boxer Rebellion in China.

Angel - Dear Boy / S02E05

Darla steps it up a notch. She begins appearing to Angel in public – at night in an outdoor market, in a hotel where he’s working a case, and finally he stalks her to a house where she is pretending to be DeEtta Kramer and has hired an actor to be her husband. She calls the cops and says Angel broke in and tried to kill her… of course, Detective Kate is on the case. She is already pissed at Angel and goes to arrest him, until Gunn points out that Angel couldn’t have broken in because he’s a vampire.

Angel kidnaps and takes Darla to an underground water facility (where he and the gang recently killed a grotesque demon). We learn Darla is human and has a soul. Angel tells her she will begin to feel bad for the things she has done.

Angel - Guise Will Be Guise / S02E06

Jane Espenson episode! Bring on the funny.

Wesley pretends to be Angel when someone is threatening Cordelia. Wesley/Angel gets hired to protect a businessman’s daughter. He sleeps with her and then his identity is discovered.

On the advice of the psychic demon at the karaoke bar, Angel goes to see a Swami about what he should do about the Darla thing. It turns out the Swami was killed and an imposter is talking to Angel, trying to keep him out of Los Angeles so a rival corporation can kidnap the businessman’s daughter.

It turns out the daughter is being held captive by her father so she can be eaten by a demon who will increase his power and wealth. Except… she’s not pure. And she hasn’t been pure for a while.

Great episode because, even though it took us off the whole Darla track, it didn’t feel like it was wasting our time.
