I am smack in the middle of my 6 week trip throughout Colorado attending fine art festivals on the weekend and photographing between shows. So far the shows have been excellent and the photography fantastic.

In fact I have been so excited about the images I am creating that I made it a point to find a wireless hotspot to get this blog post out. I will have quite a few incredible new photos to officially release towards the end of August but I wanted to take this opportunity to inform everyone of a new Collection I have been working on.

The new collection will be called the "Contemporary Collection". These wonderful photos have a unique, impressionistic look to them. Using techniques I first used on occasion throughout my 17 year photojournalism career, this new work was created by "painting" with my camera - either by panning and moving the camera during long exposures or allowing the wind to move objects during long exposures. I first used this technique in the early 90's when photographing track & field by panning the camera to follow a runner and using a slow shutter speed to blur the background and add motion to the subject.

With my "Contemporary Collection" I am taking that technique to much higher and creative levels. Images are created by not only composing for the scene in general, but careful attention to detail has been used to further compose based on the color and feeling/emotion of the scene in general. These new photos are intended for either casual or intense & deliberate study. They are the perfect addition to anyone's home whose decorating style is contemporary and whose love of art is exceptional.

While I will formally announce this new collection in late August I am sending out this "preview" announcement first. The reason is that each of the photographs in my "Contemporary Collection" will only be available in extremely limited editions and I want my blog readers to have the first chance to add one of these pieces to their collection. Each photograph will only be available as a stretched canvas piece in just TWO sizes, and only TEN will be available in each size!! In addition, the price for each piece will continue to increase until the edition sells out. You will want to be among the first to bring home one of these pieces to increase your investment potential. After the ten pieces sell out, they will not be available again. Sizes and prices are still being finalized for these very limited pieces, but I anticipate the two sizes to be available will be 24"x36" and 36"x54". I will also have ONE matted size available, in an edition of just 20 prints.

If this collection is for you, simply email me with the subject of "Contemporary Collection". You will be added to a list that will be the very first to have the opportunity to obtain one of these new pieces. The list is non-obligitory. You are not required to purchase a photograph for being on the list - you will just have the very first opportunity to do so to take advantage of lower prices from lower edition numbers.

Below are 3 of the photos to be included in the "Contemporary Collection". Note that these photos are "work in progress" representations. I am on the road away from my home studio where I do all of my optimization and image enhancement. Therefore the final versions of these photos will look even better than what is seen at this point. When I formally announce the new collection I will provide more accurate representations.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 126px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kxAiOQcMo8I/SmnI6Y0eyzI/AAAAAAAAACE/pbjAyzgVM3U/s200/CG_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362037736781826866" />

This wonderful and colorful piece was photographed in Edwards, Colorado during a walk along a stream. I spent the 5 days photographing, hiking, and scouting locations for future shoots. This was also my first photo trip with my new Lance truck camper, shown here at my campground just outside the park after arriving in the evening.

Having the truck camper is quite a departure from sleeping in a tent. It provides me with a comfortable, secure, dry, warm or cold (with the A/C) home base from which to plan my photo trips. Batteries for cameras and laptops stay charged, drinks and food stay cold in the fridge, etc. Once removed from the truck and left at the campground I am free to drive throughout the area. While I love sleeping in a tent - and still will depending on where I want to photograph - having the comfort of an RV sure has it's moments.

The photo trip was a great success and I have added 8 images from the trip to my website. You can see the images here. My favorite photo of the trip is below and was taken during a tiring 7+ mile hike along a creek that included a lot of boulder-hopping, creek crossings, trail findings, and at one time walking through pools of water 3 feet deep - all with a heavy backpack filled with water, food and of course camera gear.

"Pools of Elegance"

Newspaper Article featuring myself

A couple months ago I was featured in a newspaper article by the Peoria Times in Arizona. Here is the opening 2 paragraphs from the article:

Photographer Matt Suess said he traded the sands of the ocean for the sands of the desert, when he and his wife, Marci, moved to North Peoria from Cape Cod, Mass. a little over a year ago.

"Two years ago, we came here on a photo trip and fell in love with the area," Suess said. "Because photography is what I do full-time, we decided to move here and focus on landscapes of the West. We have a habit of moving to areas I like to photograph."

To read the article in it's entirety, you can find it on my website here.

I'm back!!!

Thanks to all of you who have been sending me emails or calling wondering where the heck I was. Well I am (almost) fully recovered from the busiest stretch I have had since coming to Arizona.

Since early January I have:
- participated in a 7 day a week art show/studio in Scottsdale, AZ which ran for 10 weeks, ending late March
- participated in 2 separate weekend art shows in California
- participated in 7 art shows in Arizona
- was one of only a dozen Arizona artists selected (and only photographer) to show my work in person at the 2008 Super Bowl Tailgate held just outside the stadium the day of the Super Bowl
- was interviewed by the local paper regarding my work (a copy of that article will soon appear on my website)
- and created and introduced many new pieces at the previously mentioned art shows

Remaining orders are being finished this weekend and shipped Monday - thanks for your patience.

I am also in the middle of yet another website re-design. This one promises to load much faster and look even nicer. I have re-done the galleries section, which now feature a search function, as well as added some new photos.

More to come soon...

4 Day Post-Holiday Special Offer

I have a limited number of finished pieces available following the holidays and wanted to make them available as part of a 4 Day Post-Holiday Special Offer that expires at midnight on January 7th.
