TIMELESS PIECE #3: Black Quilted Boots

When it's Quilted and made of Black leather.. The very first thing that would come to your mind would be CHANEL signature leather stitching, or maybe DIOR diamond-shape quilted stitching. You could never go wrong with any quilted leather accessories, it's classic, would compliment any outfits and definitely TIMELESS. That is why we chose black quilted boots as our Timeless Piece #3. But when you're on budget and can't afford CHANEL nor DIOR, do not give up! There are a lot of beautiful quilted accessories out there, especially in the footwear department.

You simply have to choose the RIGHT black quilted leather boots. Choose the ones that seem to have a matte leather-like material, and avoid anything that look too shiny. Quilted patent leather could look tacky if it's made of low material quality. And if you opt for a textured material, choose classic textured material, similar to CHANEL's caviar leather or some vintage distressed materials.

We have posted the Breton Nautical Stipe back in January 2010, and right after Ms. Haute's London trip, our love of these nautical stripes hasn't ceased to grow! On Oxford Street in London, there was this store called BikBok and almost the entire store was filled with STRIPES, from tops, dresses, sweaters, to anything you could name! RUNWAY: PROJECT RUNWAY SHOW AT NY FASHION WEEK F/W 2010

This is a long overdue post that we should have posted sooner. Thanks to AK, DREAMHAUTE was able to attend the Project Runway show at the New York Fashion Week on February 12th, 2010. It was the last show at Bryant Park before they move to Lincoln Center, and this Project Runwat show Season 7 was ONE of the longest shows in the Fashion Week history!!

It was over an hour long (the average fashion show usually lasts from 10-20 minutes), featuring 10 remaining contestants to keep the identities of the real finalists hidden, since the show isn't on its final season yet. Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia were on the judging panel, with Faith Hill as the guest judge.

We saw a lot of industry insiders, among others were; Joanna Cole, the Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire magazine, photographer Nigel Baker, the judge on America's Next Top Model, Beth Ostrosky, model and wife of Howard Stern, Zanna Roberts, the fashion editor of Marie Claire, and sitting next to her was Harvey Weinstein, the producer of Project Runway, and several past winners and contestants of Project Runway.

TIMELESS PIECE #2: TWO-TONE RIDING BOOTS

Confused with all the boots available in the market these days and couldn't decide which pair of boots to buy? You're not ALONE. We love all the latest hype of studded boots or those booties with zipper trims, but how long would they last? We admit, both of us at DREAMHAUTE, we're a sucker of those tough rocker chic boots and own a couple of them in our closet. But, we're questioning ourselves whether they would have a long mileage to wear. Surely enough, they can't be compared with riding boots, which Ms. Dream kept on wearing her beloved ones for more than 3 years.

Riding boots have always been a classic. They're a staple to any Fall and Winter wardrobes, chic and comfortable enough to wear for hours. The equestrian look has always been a fashion inspiration for many designers, the look is classic with a touch of masculine to toughen it up. A little bit of androgynous, "a more classy androgynous", we may say.

We love how Carla Bruni, the First Lady of France, singer and ex-supermodel of the 90's, wore her pair of riding boots on the recent cover of Vanity Fair. Or how Betty Draper ( played by actress January Jones) wore her equestrian look complete with a pair of riding boots in Mad Men!

Riding boots today come in different styles and colors. Hermès is widely known to have deep roots in and be inspired by the equestrian look, especially under the lead of designer Jean-Paul Gaultier and their riding boots are some of the most sought-after out there. As much as we love those Hermès riding boots, but we widely prefer these two-tone riding boots, which mostly come in the classic black and brown color combination. The two-tone color kicks up a notch to any shape of riding boots, and they give that "real" feel of dressage/hunting boots.

RUNWAY: KRATON S/S 2010, LEGONG : DANCE OF THE NYMPHS

DREAMHAUTE received the privilege to be invited to the runway show of new upcoming designer: KRATON by Auguste Soesastro on Thursday, January 21st at Ana Tzarev Gallery, New York. Debuting his second collection; Legong : Dance of the Nymphs, designer Auguste Soesastro was inspired by the rich Balinese culture, exploring its sacred traditional dances, and rituals.

Meticulous workmanship, including hours of hand stitching, were particularly implemented on some of the garments, paying homage to the French Art of Haute Couture, in which Auguste Soesastro was technically trained. He also stays true to his main mission to promote and preserve Indonesian arts, cultures, and heritage, by collaborating with JUARA, used as skincare of his runway models, and fair trade local Indonesian artisans.

Consistent to his signature pattern making technique, this collection emphasizes on seamless seams to give an hourglass shape. Elaborate pleating and his recent obsession of a single bias cut pattern were also used in this collection.

Clean modern look infused with ethnic aesthetic have always been KRATON's strongest statement. And in this second collection, it could be seen through the choice of his color palettes ( zen-like color tones mixed with rich Balinese colors), the use of materials ( the purity of translucent silk, linen to traditional Balinese hand woven ikat and songket made by local Balinese weavers), and the accessories (its sumptuous millinery and hair ornaments were mostly inspired by Balinese dance costume).

INTRO TO KRATON

KRATON is a New York based fashion house established in 2008. Kraton means "palace", originates from the Javanese word. Kraton aspires to promote the best of aspect of Indonesian arts and cultures to the international fashion world, in order to ensure the survival of its unique heritage for generations to come. Employing a small number of skilled workers, pattern makers, hand finishers and fair trade local Indonesian artisans, most of KRATON collections are manufactured in New York City, under direct supervision of Auguste Soesastro, the designer himself to provide the highest quality control.

Auguste Soesastro has worked as a curator of Indonesian arts specializing in antique and regional textiles and costumes in Australia. After obtaining a degree in Film and Digital Arts from the Australian National University, he continued his studies in fashion at La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture in Paris. TIMELESS PIECE #1: Breton Nautical Stripe Top

Timeless pieces will never go out of style. Period. While trends keep on coming and going before our eyes, we know that having timeless pieces would never disappoint us and have always been a great investment. We're not talking about the cult-favorite 2.55 classic quilted Chanel purse, Hermès Birkin bags, Burberry trench coats, TOD's padded rubber driving shoes, Louis Vuitton monogrammed trunks, nor Rolex watches, and a long endless list. We, at DREAMHAUTE, we want to show you some timeless pieces that are affordable and would give you a long mileage to wear.

This week, our first timeless piece is Breton stripe. Inspired by the french sailors in Brittany, France, this nautical stripe top is a definitely a classic. It was one of Coco Chanel's fashion inspiration and later, every designers seem to be inspired by its navy and white stripe powerful combo (from Jean-Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, Balmain to Marc Jacobs, just to name a few). The classic Breton stripe usually comes as a top, in a simple tee, 3/4 sleeve tops, sweaters, etc. But they also come in dresses, shirts, hoodies, and so many more.
