For this photo shoot, mom wanted to go back to the same place we did her Laramie maternity pictures.  She looked absolutely stunning in her pregnancy photos but was equally glowing and beautiful in her newborn baby portraits.  Can’t you just feel her love as she gazes down at her new little daughter?  She is also the mom to a energetic and adorable boy, I am sure it was fun to branch out from all things blue and boy!

We were a little nervous about the weather…it sprinkled a few raindrops and was a bit on the gloomy side but we had just the right amount of time get Miss Fiona snuggled up an cozy for her portraits.   Thank goodness for a little bit of sun in-between the rain!

Grandma was also here, visiting from another state so we were able to include a few three generation mom, grandma and granddaughter photos….these are always some of my favorites to include since it tells such an amazing story of family love and spanning the generations.  This little girl will love seeing these photos of a time that she won’t remember!  And sometimes we think we won’t forget these moments but time has a way of dimming our memories.  Having pictures to look back on whether they were candid moments snapped quickly with our cell phones or professional photos is a way to bring us right back to that time!

It rained buckets three hours before and we were planning to cancel until the sun came out and then everything had that gorgeous sparkling glow that comes after a good hard rain!  I always joke that us photographers stalk the weather forecast as much as any farmer, maybe even more so!   But good luck relying on the forecast itself. At 7,200 feet, it can do just about anything.  We decided to go ahead with their photos despite the gloomy start of the day and I am so glad we did!

This family picture session had been planned for over a YEAR…..in fact, right after I did their younger son’s newborn baby pictures.  Emily told me she couldn’t wait to do an outdoor session when her baby was able to walk and was looking forward to a simple outdoor Laramie location where the boys could run around and be themselves while I documented their cute personalities, quirks, smiles and energy!

Little brother is at that very independent age, doesn’t want to have his hand held or be picked up for long, we had to be QUICK getting their family picture.  Once that was over, boy did he run and run!  I got my exercise that day and am loving all of his cute smiles and at times, his quiet sombre expressions.  I do believe he is an old soul!

Big brother had so much personality…. his eyes light up his whole face when he smiles.  At one point, he pretended to be a bear which ended up as a one of my favorite pictures of him.  I love watching kids pretend and play and just be themselves.  The cares of work and jobs and adulthood come soon enough…let them be little I say!!

Six months is SUCH a fun age when babies are rolly polly, cuddly and tremendously sweet!  I absolutely love when I get to cuddle with these cuties and reminisce when my babies were this age.  I know us moms say it ALL the time but these days go so fast.  I like to think that Nora will someday show these photos to her granddaughter, telling her, “this was me when I was a baby!”

I have photographed this family for a while now, including big sister and big brother and it’s always so very special to see the family resemblances!!

This was an incredibly special session documenting this beautiful glowing mother-to-be and her daughter.  Big sister is so excited that she will be having a LITTLE sister!  She told me that she hopes the baby will have her mom’s amazing and beautiful red hair!!  I can’t think of a better compliment for this mom, it is one of the things that is endearing and sweet about children, they think their mom is beautiful!  We women often worry about what other people think about us but in the eyes of our children, we are perfect and beautiful just the way we are.

I have so enjoyed getting to know the Hime family through the years!  You may know them already since they are the editors of Wyoming Weddings and Wyoming Lifestyles magazine and are also the owners of the Laramie Dance Center.  So it’s no surprise at all that with such ambitious and talented parents that their children would have some of that awesome sauce.  These kids both sing and dance and I was blown away by their talent!  I have a special spot in my heart for the arts and it was so special to me to be able to photograph these sweet children doing their thing and being their amazing selves!!

Kids grow so fast and it is never wasted time to document the moments, the affection and the love between families and their children!  I know I tend to take for granted the things that are happening now but our family photos become more priceless as time goes on and my children grow and change!

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of a new baby!

When I arrived at Angela and Tom’s house in Laramie for their Newborn/Family portraits, big brother greeted me at the door.  It doesn’t seem that long ago that I did HIS baby pictures and now here he was as a handsome red-haired little man, running, laughing, and pulling me over to look at his favorite toys.  While mom was giving baby one last feeding, we went to the window and watched all the construction equipment happening around the neighborhood and talked pretty seriously and extensively about TRUCKS.  And let me tell you, this is a subject that I am well versed on after three boys of my own!

When my oldest son was just a little guy and barely able to talk he would get so irritated because I mistakenly referred to all construction vehicles as tractors….loaders, graders, cranes…they were ALL the same to me!  However over the years I have gotten a little better at “tractor” talk (snicker).  Little Jameson and I had a pretty good chat!

Baby sister Audrey had the most amazing head of dark hair and cupid bow lips!  And the the outfits mom had picked out…SWOON!  Dressing little miss was just as fun as when I was girl dressing my dolls…except times 10!!  I love being a “boy mom” but I have to say I do enjoy pulling out the tutu’s and enjoying some fun girl time!!

Like many women, I had long, arduous labors with the births of each of my children.

I don’t recall a whole lot during those countless hours but I do remember very clearly the nurses who  were literally like shining stars in a deep haze of pain and severe apprehension.  Their sympathy, their quiet reassurance, their devotion to do all they could to help me bring three sweet newborn babies to the world, I can’t thank them enough tho I will never know their names and they have since cared for likely hundreds more people since then.  While I was there in the hospital, I thought, “these people will likely never see me again and yet they are as kind, devoted and caring as tho I was their own family.”

A heartfelt thank you to all nurses everywhere!!

So to get on with our story here, this FANTASTIC red dress was supposed to be with Marissa (in Laramie / Cheyenne)  but it got left behind in Fort Collins and so Marissa’s mom made a special (and long) trip to get it and OH MY we are all glad she did!  We never would have known what we missed but having it meant their session had that special somethin’ somethin’ that just wouldn’t be the same.  A handsome man in uniform?  A matching airplane? Beautiful girl in a flowy red dress, I mean, we are talking smokin’ hot romance here!!!  

And the second set of heroes that helped make this photo session happen were the guys who let us use this plane and who stayed an hour longer than they had to (even tho they had been there since the crack of dawn) so that we could get these photos.  THANK YOU GUYS!!!  It was pretty funny knowing they were watching the photo session unfold….and hearing the occasional snicker from behind.  But you aren’t fooling US, we know that under that tough exterior you believe in LOVE and ROMANCE, haha!
