The Grand Sport name dates back to the early 1960s, when a small number of lightweight race cars were built to compete at tracks such as Sebring. Over the decades, Grand Sport models have traditionally represented the sweet spot in the Corvette lineup, blending performance hardware from higher-performance variants with distinctive styling and everyday drivability. The 2027 models continue that formula in the mid-engine Corvette era.

New generation LS6 6.7-litre V8 engine

At the heart of the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X is the new next-generation LS6 6.7-litre V8 engine, which will also become the primary engine for the Corvette Stingray. The naturally aspirated engine produces 535 hp and 705 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful naturally aspirated engines ever offered in a Corvette.

The engine features increased displacement, a 13.0:1 compression ratio, a larger throttle body, and a new intake system designed to improve airflow and responsiveness. Chevrolet has also upgraded the lubrication system and internal engine components to improve durability under high-load and high-temperature driving conditions. Corvette Grand Sport: Rear-wheel-drive performance

The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport is designed for drivers who prefer a traditional rear-wheel-drive sports car experience. It combines the naturally aspirated V8 with a performance-focused chassis and standard Magnetic Ride Control suspension.

The car is designed to be usable both on long highway drives and on track days. Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tyres are standard, while optional performance packages add summer tyres, larger brakes, and track-focused suspension tuning.

The available Z52 Sport Performance Package adds stiffer suspension tuning and high-performance brakes borrowed from the Corvette Z06. For the first time in the eighth-generation Corvette with a pushrod V8, a quad centre-exit exhaust system will also be available.

Corvette Grand Sport X: All-wheel-drive hybrid performance

Alongside the rear-wheel-drive Grand Sport, Chevrolet has introduced the new Grand Sport X, which adds an electrified all-wheel-drive system for significantly higher performance.

The Grand Sport X combines the LS6 V8 engine driving the rear wheels with an electric motor powering the front axle, creating an electrified all-wheel-drive system similar to the Corvette ZR1X setup. Combined output is rated at 721 hp.

Design of the new Grand Sport models pays tribute to historic Corvette race cars. Signature Grand Sport hash marks remain a key design element, although they have now moved to the rear of the car to reflect the mid-engine layout.

Chevrolet is also bringing back Admiral Blue Metallic, a colour previously associated with Grand Sport models, along with new colour options such as Pitch Gray Metallic. Various stripe and hash mark combinations will be available, allowing buyers to customise their cars.

Inside, Launch Edition models will feature a Santorini Blue interior with red stitching and special Grand Sport branding throughout the cabin, including embroidered headrests and unique trim details.

Updated Corvette Stingray for 2027

Alongside the Grand Sport models, Chevrolet has also updated the Corvette Stingray for the 2027 model year. The Stingray will now use the new LS6 6.7-litre engine, making it the most powerful standard Corvette Stingray yet.
