Sony just pulled the cloth off two new phones for the future. They are called the Xperia Acro S and the Xperia Go. Both are "semi-rugged" devices, meaning they are designed to be water, scratch and dust resistant. The Xperia Go is a mid-range device, but the Xperia Acro S has some fairly stout higher-end features. Here's a breakdown of both:

Xperia go

3.5” Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine gives razor sharp clarity

5MP fast capture camera goes from sleep to snap in just over a second

Scratch resistant mineral glass display with wet finger tracking

Highest level of dust and water resistance in a smartphone – IP67 Rating

1Ghz dual core processor gives consumers super fast performance

Launching on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), upgradeable to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)

Available in black, white and yellow colours

Xperia acro S

4.3” 720p HD Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine gives razor sharp clarity

12MP fast capture camera goes from sleep to snap in just over a second with a single key press

PlayStation™ Certified

Full 1080p HD video recording and 720p HD front camera

Scratch resistant mineral glass display with wet finger tracking

IP55 and IP57 Ratings for dust and water resistance

1.5Ghz dual core processor gives consumers super fast performance

Launching on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)

Available in black, white and pink colours

Sony just keeps cranking out amazing phones. Along with all these new devices, they are one of the fastest OEMs to update their products to the latest versions of Android. How many of you guys would consider a Sony phone? I wonder if Sony will be one of the five manufacturers that Google will be working with later this year for the 5 Google Nexus devices...

The lapdock allows you to surf the web, send email, listen to music, take calls and more simultaneously in multiple windows all on one screen. Charge your phone while docked with the lapdock as it stays charged for up to 8 hours and keeps your Motorola Droid Bionic ready to go.

Last Thursday, Verizon offered the manual install download of the ICS 4.0.4 update for their version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. They teased that the OTA update would start, but that turned out to be a false start. Now, they are teasing yet again, with an update "Coming Soon" sign on their webpage. If this actually happens this time, it will bring the build to version IMM76K. Supposedly it will start rolling out today, which is what they suggested last week. For any of our users who start receiving the update, please sound off in the forums so we can all get off this merry-go-round.

It makes you wonder why the delayed it to begin with...
Our friends to the North have a firm date for the Canadian version of the Samsung Galaxy S III. The Canadian carrier Videotron will be getting the SGS3 on June 20th. This could point to the North American launch in general, so it is possible the United States could be getting the phone on or around that same date. You can click on the source link below to check out Videotron's countdown sign-up page.
Owners of Verizon's LG Spectrum may be pleased by the following news. Apparently, some devs over at XDA are already working with a leaked Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for the phone. This could point to a possible rollout of the official update here in the next few weeks. If you are interested in trying out this leaked build, be forewarned that you could brick your device, or leave yourself stuck with this ROM. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully. Here's a link to XDA for the goods:
Hehe.. I thought the title was pretty creative. But it seems like Google ran a benchmark with the tablet using Rightware's Powerboard benchmark. Some of the specs given were a Tegra 3 quad core processor running at 1.3GHz, 768x1280 resolution. Judging from these specs and specs that Android Police was able to acquire from Rightware, this seems to be a 7" tablet hence the name "Nexus 7." It is also running Android 4.1 which is thought to be Jelly Bean.
The latest version of the Eclipse Rom by developer Nitroglycerine has been ported to the Droid 3 thanks to developer "davros"! This has been one of my favorite Roms. It did provide me with my first taste of ICS on the Droid Bionic, and i loved it on the Galaxy Nexus as well. X13thAngelX had ported this to the Droid 3, the main difference here is that it has been based off the .906 update! This is still the sleek awesome Rom that you have come to know and love just updated with some new features!
The motorola experience has been cleaned up with some mods. This build has been Deodexed, zipaligned and DeBloated for maximum performance! It also includes lots of other goodies like AOSP mms, ICS music, 3D gallery, Eclipse Launcher, file manager, aosp alarmclock deskclock, AOSP news and weather, aosp calendar, Aosp camera, dsp manager, 1% battery mod, pulldown toggles, custom power menu and a huge list of other features.
If you are like me then you are on your phone most of the time! Whether you are working, googling something so that you can prove to your wife that you WERE right, or just watching some hilarious video, it can be hard to exit the task and check the notification. Some have the discipline to ignore the notification but most will exit the app and see what is going on. Most notifications aren't important, but i mostly find myself checking every one because what if someone is hurt or something is wrong and someone needs my help. App developer "srelyt" feels your pain and has developed an app to help you avoid unneeded distractions.

It looks like the free version has some limitations. It will only alert you when sms/ or rss notifications come in. Also in the free version you can only have the scroll bar on the top of the screen and you can only have a black background.. no transparent background!

We finally have a name for the much talked about Droid RAZR HD that has been making it's rounds across the blogosphere. We also have information on another Motorola device scheduled to drop on AT&T. First up is the Motorola Vanquish (Droid RAZR HD) which will be sold on Verizon. The Vanquish will be the first high definition model in the Droid line-up, packing a beautiful 1280 x 720 pixel display, LTE capabilities and Ice Cream Sandwich. The device is coming to Verizon under the model number XT926, to China as XT922 and XT980, and globally as the XT923 (UMTS) and XT925 (LTE). Other specs and release dates are still unknown at this time.

Next up is the Motorola Asanti which will be dropping on AT&T's LTE Network. The Asanti will come equipped with a full QWERTY Keyboard and 960 x 540 qHD display. Sound vaguely familiar? If you said Droid 4 that's our thoughts exactly. The handset will hit AT&T's network with the model number XT898, with the XT897 and XT896 designations assigned to other regions.

So the mysterious Droid RAZR HD has a new name, and the wait for more details begins...
By now, unless you are living under a rock, you have probably heard that Samsung has just launched their new Galaxy S III globally today, and that sometime within the next month or so, it will likely be coming to U.S. carriers as well. Samsung just revealed a new feature/service that will debut with the phone. It is called “Music Hub," and it will be exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S III at first, but will then filter to future (and perhaps past) Samsung phones. With it, Samsung hopes to take on iTunes directly with their own music cloud service. Here's a full press release with more details,
SAMSUNG LAUNCHES MUSIC HUB, OFFERING THE ULTIMATE MOBILE MUSIC SERVICE
New service integrates all your music experiences in one place: Millions of songs, your own music stored in the Cloud, a music store and radio discovery
Initially launching on the Samsung Galaxy S III in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the UK
29th May 2012, London, UK – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today announced the arrival of the much anticipated new Music Hub – the first completely integrated, all-in-one mobile music service. Initially available on the Samsung Galaxy S III and hitting European markets today, Music Hub vastly simplifies and enhances the everyday experience of listening to music. Whether you’re an avid collector wanting easy access to your own music collection, someone with ever-changing music tastes, someone who likes to sample a broad selection of music and genres or a passive listener who prefers radio, Music Hub provides a richer music experience for everyone.
Based on the technology services of mSpot, a leading mobile content service provider recently acquired by Samsung, the new Music Hub service will initially be available on the Samsung Galaxy S III and will soon be offered on a wider selection of devices.
“When you ask yourself, ‘what do I want to listen to?’ there is now one simple answer, for every mood, every place and everyone,” stated TJ Kang, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Media Solution Centre. “With the new Music Hub, we’re bringing the joy back to music – listening, collecting and sharing.”
“We believe that today’s mobile market must have an open mobile music system – one that offers all kinds of services across different devices. Music Hub removes all the barriers to your music,” stated Daren Tsui, CEO of mSpot.
The new Music Hub service will be offered for free and also in a Premium version:
Music Hub Store: (free) Offering a vast, 19 million song catalogue provided by 7digital, Music Hub Store enables you to buy songs and albums, as well as listen to 30-second previews of all songs. Music Hub Premium: (£9.99 per month) For £9.99 per month, you can upload and access your entire music collection anywhere, enjoy unlimited streaming from the millions of songs in the Music Hub catalogue and discover new songs with radio stations based on the artists you like.
Music Hub features include:
Scan & Match Cloud Locker: Upload your music to the cloud so you can play it anywhere. Music Hub utilises scan & match technology to decrease upload time and ensure high-quality playback. Any unmatched songs are directly uploaded from your library so you can access rare or personal recordings (100 GB of storage for all unmatched songs). When you edit playlists or purchase music, your collection stays automatically updated across all authorized devices.
Catalogue of millions of songs: Enjoy full access to our entire catalogue to stream or purchase, with unlimited plays and no advertisements. Search for new music, create playlists, share songs with friends, and view lyrics and album information.
Radio: Relax and listen to the music you like with personal radio and programmed stations. Create personal stations based on songs and artists you love, or browse genre stations recommended and tailor-crafted by the Music Hub team. Hear a song you like? Tag it so you can find it later and play it again whenever you want.
Recommendations: Discover great new music all the time with customised recommendations for songs, artists, albums and radio stations. The more you listen, the better recommendations you’ll get.
Optimised for Mobile: Music Hub is optimised specifically for your Samsung device. Advanced streaming and downloading options let you save storage space, play music when offline, and cut down on cellular data usage. Audio settings are designed to prolong battery life and ensure smooth streaming even under spotty network coverage.
Web Player: In addition to the mobile app, users can access their music library and the Music Hub catalogue/store online at Music Hub. The Web Player allows users the freedom to play their music easily on any PC.
For pixel density, the Apple iPhone's Retina display has been the top dog of the smartphone display tech world for some time. That has now changed. LG just unveiled their newest truly HD smartphone display. It's a bit on the extra-large size, but it definitely packs a gorgeous punch. Their new AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) LCD screen is 5 inches, and has a true HD 1920x1080 (1080p). Furthermore, this new screen tech packs in a whopping 440 pixels per inch pixel (ppi) density, compared to the iPhone's 330ppi display. LG shared a statement along with the announcement of the new screen, "The naked eye is unable to distinguish between individual pixels."

Additionally, their new AH-IPS technology, provides wider viewing angles, an improved color palette and faster touch-response times. Here's a quote with some final details,
For folks that were planning on picking up a Droid Bionic at some point, you won't really get a better time than now. The phone can now be had on Verizon's website for the grand price of FREE. Additionally, the former flagship device is no longer listed on the DroidDoes.com website. This seems to point to an end-of-life for the phone. It's sad to see some of the best Droid devices being put out to pasture.

Apparently, "the debt that all men pay" also applies to Androids...
How many of you out there are excited about the new Transformer Pad Infinity? Apparently, Asus wants to build up your anticipation even further, as they have just released a teaser video for their next press launch at CompuTex 2012 in Taipei. Although the teaser video doesn't specifically name the Transformer Pat Infinity, it does hint at the "Next Transformations," which seems to point in the direction of their newest flagship Android Tablet device. Just in case any of our readers have missed the previous news on this one, the Transformer Pad Infinity is supposed to take Android tablet screen tech to a whole new level of beautiful and feature a true HD 1920x1200 display.

The Computex Event will happen on May 31st, so we only have a couple of days before the big reveal.

Facebook Working With HTC; Hired Apple Engineers to Create New Facebook Phone

Image: http://static.droidblog.net/dgstorm/df/htc-facebook-phone.jpg

A report from the New York Times...

A report from the New York Times seems to confirm previous rumors that Facebook is very serious about creating a Facebook-branded phone. The report also reveals additional details. Apparently, Facebook hired over half a dozen different software and hardware engineers from Apple to help them build this phone. The report suggests that Facebook will likely use a base core of Android, but will heavily modify it (similar to what Amazon did with the Kindle Fire), and will focus the phone around a Facebook theme. Facebook even recently opened up their own Android App store called App Center.

Previously we reported on rumors that Facebook may partner up with HTC in order to get the hardware launched. The source of this article suggests that Facebook intends to launch the phone before or around the beginning of next year. Investors have been wondering how Facebook will further monetize their service to generate revenue and profit. This could be a smart option for the social media giant.
