Netflix Unhinged is part of its newer TV gaming initiative. The game itself runs on your TV through the Netflix app, while your phone acts as the controller and your only connection to survival. Movements made in the real world are mirrored in-game.

Netflix Unhinged brings popular voices to the game

The cast includes Zoë Kravitz, known for The Batman and Caught Stealing, as Ava. Sadie Sink of Stranger Things plays Claire, Ava’s BFF. Troy Baker from The Last of Us and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle voices Ben, the apartment building’s superintendent.

The setup starts with Ava trapped inside an apartment building during a Category 5 hurricane. The power has failed, and the weather outside is getting worse. Ava believes she’s alone, but that assumption doesn’t last very long.

Her only contact with the outside world is Claire, her best friend who lives across the street. While the storm rages outside, strange events begin piling up inside the building.

The stairwell is locked. A wellness check on a neighbour uncovers disturbing signs that someone may be there, yet nobody responds. Before long, Ava realises there is another presence somewhere in the building.

You physically move your phone to control Ava’s hands and flashlight while searching dark rooms and hallways. Whenever Ava receives a call or text message, your actual phone rings, vibrates, and plays the audio through its speaker.

Meanwhile, the game’s environmental sounds continue through the TV. It creates a split-screen-style experience where the TV and phone work together.

Netflix Unhinged offers two modes. Story Mode has no timers, Ava cannot die, and you can progress through the story without worrying about failing. On the other hand, Standard Mode is much less forgiving.

During tense situations, a countdown bar appears, and you must quickly search the environment for specific interactive objects. Failing before the timer expires results in Ava’s death, although you aren’t sent back to the beginning. Instead, you restart from the most recent checkpoint.

Next, MegaPals is a 3-8 player game. It focuses on how well friends understand one another. You rapidly come up with words and try to predict how your friends think, leading to explosive match-ups.

Debate and Switch supports 2-8 players. It throws players into a town hall-style competition where they must argue for silly positions and convince everyone else to take their side. Light-hearted topics become heated discussions in this one.

Idol Factions is also for 2-8 players. Two teams race against each other to sort a constant stream of answers into the correct categories. You also need to react quickly and communicate effectively while answers keep piling up.

Then there’s Hyperface, a 3-8 player photo-editing game. You either take selfies or use stock photos before stretching, squashing, smudging, yanking, and drawing all over the images. The goal is to answer bizarre prompts, such as your face when you’ve just seen a bear.

The Jackbox Party Pack 12 is launching later this year. It will come to PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Apple TV, iPad, and the Mac App Store.

Now, you might be wondering where Android is on that list? Well, right now, Jackbox hasn’t announced an Android version of The Jackbox Party Pack 12. But since most previous packs are available on Android, chances are high that this one will also come to mobile, but maybe a bit later.

A fast-moving third-person shooter

The story takes you to Scumland, a lawless island where a dangerous drug known as SEED has helped the Raven Clan tighten its grip on the region. As criminal activity spreads and rival groups collide, Mika establishes an organisation called El-Al Canhel with the goal of bringing down the clan.

The game emphasises aggressive play through fast-paced gunfights and combo-focused action. You cut through enemies using the Cerberus pistols and unleash powerful Demolition Shots. You can switch between ranged attacks and brutal close-quarters combat involving Grave’s massive coffin weapon.

Apart from the shooting, you can strengthen Grave through skill upgrades and attribute improvements. Also, you can enhance the iconic Death Coffin with new abilities and transformations.

Tomb of the Mask is already available on Android as a standalone version published by Cyprus-based studio Playgendary. The game first launched on iOS in February 2016, while the Android version followed in June 2018.

It’s a fast-paced single-player arcade puzzle game where you play as an explorer who discovers a mysterious golden mask inside an ancient tomb. Putting it on transforms the character into a powerful and highly agile Tomb Seeker capable of dashing at incredible speeds and even climbing vertical walls.

The gameplay revolves around swiping in the direction you want to move. Once you commit to a direction, the character races across the maze until hitting an obstacle. The objective is to reach the exit while avoiding traps, enemies, and other hazards, while collecting treasure, coins, dots, stars, boosters, and power-ups.

The Netflix version of Tomb of the Mask includes three major modes. Map Mode features more than 750 levels. As players progress, the maze layouts become more complicated, traps are placed more aggressively, and the overall challenge steadily increases. Every level contains up to three stars to collect.

Arcade Mode throws you into an endless maze. Rather than clearing a set stage, you push upward through an infinite labyrinth while a deadly wall of lava rises from below. The challenge here is to stay alive as long as possible and gather coins.

Lastly, Event Mode rotates through limited-time challenges and minigames. These include classic minigames such as Snake, Boss Clash, Color Quest, Gems Seeker, and more. You can earn coins by completing the levels and spend them on upgrading masks.

It’s a new update in TownsFolk, where the guest of honour is from Dawnfolk. During the event, you’ll get a mysterious visitor, a handful of new puzzles, and a story that links two indie city-building worlds together.

The main character of the update is Lueur, the flame guide from Dawnfolk. He unexpectedly appears on the frontier of TownsFolk after a strange light is spotted beyond the settlement’s borders. As settlers investigate, they discover that Lueur has somehow wandered into their world.

Following Lueur’s path unlocks six new story-driven puzzles inspired by the lands beyond the darkness. The TownsFolk x Dawnfolk crossover storyline focuses on exploration, friendship, and discovery, gradually connecting the worlds.

Apart from the new puzzles, the update adds some other new features to the game as well. Android players finally get Cloud Saves, allowing settlements to move across supported devices without losing progress. The patch also includes adjustments to Parliament policies and tweaks to deforestation mechanics.

Skyhill originally launched in 2015 on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch. It also dropped on iOS later. It became popular due to its exploration and replayable roguelike structure, which eventually led to the release of a sequel. That’s Skyhill: Black Mist, which came out in 2020.

Skyhill: Hotel Survival is grim

The setup revolves around World War III. The main character is a lone businessman who was only supposed to be staying in town for a few days. He books a suite in a luxury penthouse at the Skyhill Hotel, a massive skyscraper.

A bio-weapon attack changes everything, leaving the hotel crawling with horrifying creatures. The survivors left behind are no longer entirely human, transformed by the bio-weapons into twisted mutant creatures that resemble zombies.

Food is scarce, supplies are disappearing, and the only option is to leave the safety of the penthouse and begin searching the floors below. Every trip down the skyscraper can feel different because the room layouts are randomly generated.

Along the way, you can gain experience, unlock special abilities, craft weapons, collect useful items, and work on improving your chances of survival. Skyhill: Hotel Survival also allows you to upgrade your base.

Combat plays out in a turn-based format and revolves around a risk-and-reward system. You can aim for headshots or body shots, weighing accuracy against damage potential. There’s also an elevator system that allows for faster travel through the building.

Skyhill: Hotel Survival uses a hand-drawn comic-book-inspired visual style and unsettling sound design to create a feeling of isolation and claustrophobia. You get to descend a 100-story hotel during a mutant apocalypse, so what’s not to like?

Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – £0.10

At a ridiculously cheap price currently, Spongebob and 3D platformer fans (bonus points if you’re both) can enjoy Battle For Bikini Bottom at a price that’s practically free. It’s a great, full featured game, and very legit as far as franchise tie-ins go.

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition – £3.50

We might not have Baldur’s Gate 3 on Android (well, not without a LOT of tinkering involved) but you might notice a few familiar faces, and giant space hamsters, in this. The original Baldur’s Gate, with a few welcome additions. Say hi to Minsc and Jaheira when you see them!
