Today’s Saturday:

This morning I got up and took our van to be serviced because we got one of those coded messages that light up on the dash warning us of emanate explosion. The truth is I got that light two weeks, so Honda can suck it. Your secret is out. The car won’t explode, at least not right away. $121.00 later it was ‘serviced’. Then I drove across town to help my dad out with his new computer. He wanted some file sharing set up between his new Window 7 desktop computer and is Vista laptop. It took a while but I got them talking nicely. Firewalls always give me hassles with home networks, but I fixed it. (yes, that’s a typewriter next to a laptop, it’s like I am in a time machine)

Next I went to the outlet grocery store and bought off brand food products but did NOT buy this:

But now I am off for a night at the theater with a hot chick.

We’ve been sick

So far as I know, this head-cold-from-hell has spanned at least three households. The only real cure seems to be a long dosage of sleep. Two 12-hour days of sleep for me seemed to shake it off.

The Olympics are over if you haven’t heard. Now I want NBC to return my lost hours of sleep. The way they top-loaded the coverage where the good stuff came on at 10:30 pm was unfair. However, I now probably qualify to earn my “living-on-5-hours-of-sleep” gold medal.

The Saturday of Love … of meat

It’s not a very busy Saturday. The wife and I stayed up late last night because of the valentine big band gig and a late dinner at the Ram Pub. Where we watched the Olympic opening ceremonies on the big pub screens with the soundtrack from an 80’s pop music station. We could see Sarah McLaughlin singing on the screen but all we can hear was Adam Ant … goody to goody to goody toooo shoes!

Today is about meat. We’re having an early dinner at a the new restaurant at the golf course. The club seems to turn over restaurants often lately. The latest incarnation of the eatery comes to us in the form of a bar-b-q joint. We’re heading out tonight for ALL YOU CAN EAT … ribs, brisket … etc. I told my son “don’t wear a white shirt”.

After that, I don’t know what we’ll do. I think beers. Yes, I will do beers.

#### UPDATE ####

Meat Event was a total disappointment. I will be weary of future adventures at that restaurant.

New logo for Tap The Moon

Tonight I worked on my logo for Tap The Moon, and as much as I tried I couldn’t get my favicon to work yet. I’ll keep working on that.

I like the way the logo turned out, but going back and forth from format to format was driving a bit batty. Go Check it out

The Tao of Dishes

I do dishes. Therefore, I am.

I actually had a job doing dishes once. I was a young teenager and worked part time at a local diner. I scraped a lot of half-eaten food off of plates in my time.

Now I do dishes as part of a bigger more meaningful chore known as life. It has become one of my reasons of being. I come home everyday after work and rediscover the sinks of my destiny. The dishes and I are one. Without each other we cease to exist.

I’m working on learning how to do some Wordpress stuff. I’ve used Blogger so long that I really have handicapped myself on the ways of the more popular blogging software used out there. I set up five wordpress blogs (as seen in the links section of this blog) to learn, operative and manipulate my blogging skills and exercise my evolving Wordpress knowledge.

I had a heck of time trying to get Window Live Writer (the software I use to write my blogs) to talk nicely with my new Wordpress sites, especially when uploading pictures. I finally got it work at www.tapthemoon.com

Go check it out. I’ve using the generic themes right now, but I plan on making them look all pretty. Right now I just want to be able to generate and upload content free of error.

To Boldly Go!

Yesterday I was invited to join in on the testing of Star Trek Online, a new MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). So after a very long download and a few minutes install, I was ready to enlist with the Federation of Planets to rid the universe of Romulan, Klingon and Borg.

I created myself a Captain, Ensign Saldirk is a short bent-bent over olive-skinned Vulcan with a little bit of a Romulan Ale belly.

There’s been some glitches, such as the transformation from Humanoid avatar to Ship avatar, sometimes Ensign Saldirk stands gigantor-style on the top of my starship The Bard’s Tale.

And later on as I was slaughtered by a fleet of Klingon Birds of Prey, my ship exploded and got stuck fizzing and crackling on the side of the asteroid. So embarrassing.

But it’s real fun. Can’t wait to get back to it after my chores are done.

How’d We Do & Moving Forward

Before I head into the “Resolutions 2010” addition, let’s review last year’s. For reference: This 2009

Seem more professional online – well, other than tweeting that I’m bored I think I’ve done better this year.
Build marketable skills – I find “marketable skills” a moot point if I’m not sure what direction to go next. The current economy doesn’t help prospects either.
Harness my sarcasm for good – riiight, like I’m going rush out and do that!
Keep my room clean – I actually have been pretty good on this. I need some shelving however.
Spend more time in the yard – Just Fail. But now that I don’t have school, I can spend more time out there … when it stops raining.
Graduate with a BS – Achieved! The student loan re-payments start next month.
Be Differently Employed – Another for the achieved column. It’s a good job, with good people, at a good agency, but I’m bored and under salaried.
Enroll in a music class/lessons – This one will be moved forward to 2010. The lack of time and money postponed this goal last year.

So now we’re in 2010. I think I’m just going to take the year in stride. I’m only going to resolve to do three things this year. First to tackle the weight. I know, we all make that resolution but I let it get out of hand this last year (as seen in the a year in weight).

The second goal this year is to expand my interest in photography. I’ve always taken pictures, but I want to get back to basics and advances. And in compliment of this goal I would also like to hone my Photoshop skills even more.

Third, back to #8 above. I want to take some music lessons. I haven’t decided on what yet, but I have this banjo that’s not going to learn itself.

That’s it. That is all.

A Year in Weight

Well, the weight project is complete. I have weighed myself every Monday for a year. After the stats are all figured, I am still the same weight as I started.

I started at 229 and I ended at 229. Go figure. I really didn’t do any dieting or exercise. I guess I just did a year of control group establishing. This coming year I hope to do better, you know … the eat right, exercise and take Geritol every day, kind of thing. It was a fun experiment, but now I have to figure out how to fit in my pants again.

We Had a Little Snow Day

Yesterday our babysitter got sick on us. Darn you Amanda! So I stayed home with my daughter. We were very productive. I taught her how to install a hard drive in a computer, pointing out all the innards of a computer to her. We also set up our new Wii. We’ve had it in the closet for a couple years, just now took it out. While doing all this we looked out the window and noticed it was starting to snow. No one warned us about this and definitely no one really warned Portland either. They clogged up all the freeways up there. Valley and City dwellers seem to panic at the slightest hint of snow.

I tried out my new flip Ultra HD video camera I got from Santa. (more about that in a future post)

oh, blackberry … you forsaken me.

Today the entire Blackberry data service stopped working. All over North America people panicked and poked frantically at their devices. I know I did. We don’t know why yet, but RIM (the company in charge of the network) is said to be fixing the problem. really? Better before people start returning their Christmas Blackberries for Androids or iPhones. One would think there may be a back up system planned. I guess not. Doesn’t bode well in my book.

I can’t update my plan until July 2010 without penalties, but any more days like this and my blackberry would make for a better paperweight than a smart phone.

drollexhaust.com : remains to be my personal blog.
jugbo.com : my portal and portfolio site. There’s a bunch of stuff I’m just going to remove from that site. I want it to be the gateway/portfolio to my other work
garyjungling.com : this will be my resume site, professional history and such
glovehub.com : was a domain used when I worked for a glove company. I still retain a lot of knowledge about the glove industry so I thought I’d build a portfolio piece demonstrating my knowledge.
haznodyne.com : this was actually a proposed brand name for some high risk safety disposable gloves, but the boss didn’t like my attempt. There’s a whole uninteresting story about branding and mix signals there that I don’t want to get into. Anyway, this now has been designated as my music site. I had an idea of creating a bluegrassed tribute band that did nothing but tunes from Madonna, Billy Joel, Elvis Costello, The Doors, The Replacements, Nirvana and G’n’R music. But maybe just turn into a uke blog. I don’t know yet.

Pandemic Proportions

The household is plagued with the flu virus. I seems that we’re passing it off, one at a time to each family member. It’s the typical “seasonal flu” as compared to the “swine flu”, which I guess isn’t seasonal? It starts off with cold-like symptoms but then you have the high fever and achy bones, which will then turn the cold into a flu. If you had vomiting and/or diarrhea then you just may have the h1n1 (hiney) flu. I don’t want either, but I have this feeling that I’m right on the edge of the loading platform to the sick-in-bed express.

We are encouraged at the workplace, to wash our hands and get our flu shots. Only our flu shots were cancelled due to a supply shortage. However,

we’re assured that we’ll have them for the flu season. Hello! We have the flu, the season is NOW!
