My first reel I put together after finishing school. I hope you'll find at least one pixels interesting in this 1-minute mashup. The wonderful song is called July, by the talented Crying Day Care Choir. Go support them! Everything you see is designed, illustrated and animated by me. I get the majority of my inspiration from all the work circling the motion community. So for that, Thank you!Cast: Niklas ArthurssonTags: reel, hyperisland, Mograph, motiongraphics, Motion, Motionreel, Scandinavien, R16 and reel16

This is a small animation i did as an exercise to experiment and explore all the graphical possibilities of representing the idea of the SPHERE, always thinking in searching Gestalt and form. Its all done in 3d, but i was more interested in the graphical interest, flatten the surfaces, and only two colors, why more.The most difficult was to achieve the transitions between the different type of representation of the sphere, the morphing and metamorphosing. For the description of the project, all these frames plus the frames from the scenes that weren't included, visit - behance.net/gallery/Spherikal/3565597 It was all done in Cinema 4d R13, all with the Mograph module.
geist.xyz is a different kind of fashion project: what looks at first glance as an eccentric tangle of simulated dance and a color coordinated tumblr exploration turns out to be a study of handcrafted algorithmic textiles and procedural surfaces. A synthetic ghost shifts simulated textiles from passive matter to live organisms. They behave like apparitions in an artificial choreography, with movements that are imaginary yet familiar. Like a constant metamorphosis, the same sequence gets transformed over and over again. At each step, all aspects of the designs are modified, from algorithmic pattern to color scheme to fabric behaviour. The results are meandering layers of style changes. A linear montage shows the intricate details. Shuffled layers of metronomic sounds emphasize the transformation fluctuating in and out of sync. The grid of moving images on geist.xyz visualizes our conceptual approach and color scheme. Outtakes on instagram.com/zeitguised All conceptual, design and production work: ZEITGUISED.
soytuaire.labuat.com When we hear a song that truly touches us, we feel an uncontrollable desire to move: to dance, to wave our hands, to express ourselves. We wanted to offer an interactive experience that would allow us to express ourselves…only with a paintbrush. The user can move the paintbrush freely across the screen just like when dancing or swaying his or her arms, but the brush will paint in sync with what is happening in the song and change size and strength according to the intensity of the music. Furthermore, the paintbrush, represented by a circle like that used in Photoshop, pulses in time with the song, splashing paint with each beat.
INFINITE 2014 Audiovisual Installation 2 HD Projectors and 2.1 Stereo Sound 8min11sec Video Loop Visual Artists: Liu Chang,Miao Jing Sound Design: Gan Jian Curator for Infinite 115: Sirui Zhang Created by Liu Chang & Miao Jing Opening Reception: 6pm Saturday April 26th, 2014 On View: 6pm Saturday April 26th, 2014- 6pm Sunday April 27th Address: Room 115, Avery Hall, Columbia University Special Thanks to Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation Xizhe Wang/Cheney/Li Zan/Lu Su/ Shiyu Zhu/Qiu Yun/Wang Mi/Tianyao Wei Organized by Sirui Zhang “Infinite 115” is an exhibition experiment. In this experiment, a team of emerging artists will install their audiovisual installation “Infinite” in Avery Room 115. “115” is not only the room number but also the serial number of the experiment, which is the first attempt of a series of ongoing debugging activities that will take place in different venues. “Infinite 115” is also a spatial replacement. It replaces two seemingly structural walls and the corner they enclose in Room 115 by projecting moving, non-structural, opened geometric shapes, thus questioning the existence and the formation of the space. ........................................... Observations on “Infinite” by LIU Chang The idea of this work first came to my mind when I was visiting Dia:Beacon at upstate one year ago, where I encountered Sol Lewitt’s wall drawing series. When I saw those huge linear elements traced on the wall deliberately in graphite, I felt the weight but in a contradictory lightness. The linear elements are light, while the heaviness of the wall gives a pressure upon the viewer. The heaviness of the wall is overwhelming. Especially when I stood in front of a huge black wall with two transformed cubes, I felt a mysterious force which motivated me to go to this enigmatic shape. This contradiction continues in Lewitt’s Open Cube series, in which there are two walls that enclose a spatial corner, and a cube that belongs to both sides. The combination of the cube and the wall give me a driving force to be willing to be absorbed by the corner, but it exists in reality and would not allow me to enter. When I talked about this experience to Miao Jing, he was very excited to discuss the topic of “Cube”. As a fundamental shape in geometry, it composed of six faces and 12 edges. It became more complex when we tried to locate a cube in a real interior space; the components of the cube would rise to 24 2-D right angles and 8 3-D right angular vertices. Meanwhile, the logic of the cube will extend to the shape of viewer. The 90° right angle does not welcome anybody nor resist. It is depressed, extended and infinite. The experience is an encounter with a marvelous spectacle. Then the projection and the sound add up within the space interleaving. Infinite is a unique experience, or an atmosphere, like when one is immersed in a mountain, a waterfall or a cliff in infusive perceptions. The geometric visual shapes and synthesized sounds express the same velocity and tactility. Then tension and force generated by the vision and sound deploy permanently. We compute the incomputable universe with couter and time. Artificial codes embody the universe and make it connected with us. Time, codes and the 81 Open Cubes of Lewitt compose the visual part of Infinite. There is neither end nor beginning to be found.

Observations on “Infinite” by LIU Chang

The idea of this work first came to my mind when I was visiting Dia:Beacon at upstate one year ago, where I encountered Sol Lewitt’s wall drawing series.

Universe, time, code of machine and perception are all our concerns and are been pursuing infinitely.

Miao Jing
miaojingercq@gmail.com
hibanana.com | miaojinger.com

Chang Liu
mhliuchang@gmail.com
mediacomposition.cc

Cast: Hibanana Studio

Tags: hibanana, infinite, av installation, liu chang, miao jing and gan jian

When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mighteous heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans. On Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Territory worked closely with production designer Charles Wood and the art department, to craft a visual language to support Whedon’s dark and gritty vision for the film and reflect the individual characteristics of the personalities in the story. Tasked to bring an unprecedented level of realism to the beleaguered heroes and their technology, Territory created new visual identities and UI for the technology seen in Avengers Tower, including Stark lab and Banner’s research lab, the Quinjet aircraft and newly introduced characters the evil Baron Von Strucker and his Fortress stronghold, and Dr Cho, whose advanced medical lab supports the Avengers in the story. With a creative approach that brings emotive depth to their work, Territory crafted technology, UI and tools that expressed each individual’s unique characteristics in digital form. And, by referencing research into state of the art clinical diagnostic technology, and the latest thinking in military, robotics and avionics technology, the team was able to bring a fresh level of authenticity to the Marvel universe. In total, Territory created more than 200 screens and 80 minutes of unique animations across all 11 sets, making it one of Marvel’s most ambitious production to date at Shepperton Studio.
As part of our presence at the inaugural Retail Design Expo, we have created a space to stand out from the crowd, a conversation starter: experimental, innovative, playful, integrated, exploratory and, to many visitors, surprising. The idea came from the work we created for Portuguese childrenswear brand Zippy dalziel-pow.com/blog/zippy-digital-installations-making, magnified here as a prototype to test ideas and push the range of interactions and feedback. Screen-printed illustrations spring to life when touched, as conductive ink triggers a host of playful digital animations – a mix of informative and charming content, from product information to brand stories to chasing ducks. Pushing the boundaries of storytelling within a space, the installation makes it fun and engaging, putting ideas before hardware. A total of 48 interactions and over 100 unique animations make up the broad spectrum of content on the stand, from simple sound toys to more complex exchanges that layer projection mapping and movement around a physical space. All created in-house at Dalziel and Pow with multi-disciplinary teams. Big thanks to Bare Conductive bareconductive.com/, K2Screen k2screen.co.uk/ and Ototo ototo.fm/ for their help.Cast: Dalziel & PowTags: Retail Design Expo, Digital Interactions, Animation, Conductive Ink, Digital Content, Projection Mapping, Bare Conductive, K2Screen, Ototo and Dalziel & Pow

CIVIC challenged us to create an art installation inspired by the HBO series, Game of Thrones. We were asked to convey Arya Stark’s journey in becoming an assassin, starting with her wooden training sword from Season 1 of the series. Arya’s character and image changed dramatically over the last 5 seasons. Early on, we became interested in the idea of fans changing their own image by their sword training. In the experience, fans get their profile photographed in a special photo studio, then step on stage to wield a replica of Arya’s training sword. Facing a 10x10 foot projection, fans swing the sword to try and hit targets. Once hit, the targets spill artwork onto the canvas including blades, dragon claws, raven feathers and direwolf fur. As the artwork grows and becomes dense, fans reveal a portrait of themselves, made from the elements of the show. We created a unique generative art system that translates the physics of sword play into an artful self portrait. To accomplish this, we embedded wooden swords with wireless gyroscope and accelerometer sensors that measure the trajectory and velocity of each swing. As the user slices the on-screen targets, projected artwork spills out based on the swing. Each piece of art rotates, scales and moves in the particular way the user swings their sword. Our custom graphics engine, written in the C++ framework Cinder, blends both 2d and 3d visual elements inspired by Game of Thrones. This 3D world is then masked by the user’s own photo, so that the build up artwork fills in their portrait.

The final artwork is then uploaded to a server and available for sharing the moment a user steps off stage.

The Sword Experience was installed at SXSW, Austin and Comic Con, San Diego 2015.

More info redpaperheart.com/work/swordexperience

Cast: Red Paper Heart

Tags: Comic Con 2015, SXSW 2015, Arya Stark, Sword, Needle, Portrait, Sword Experience, HBO, Civic Entertainment Group, Red Paper Heart, Art Installation, Photobooth, Experience the realm, SDCC, Game of Thrones, Stark and Sxswesteros

Wallpaper you can listen to. We were commissioned by the Future of Storytelling to submit an installation idea as part of the "Sensory Stories" exhibit at the Museum of Moving Image. The exhibit addresses storytelling possibilities of using the 5 senses. Our submission, “Hidden Stories,” explores the secret lives of inanimate objects and the power of listening. We asked ourselves, if people had the the ability to hear through walls, what would they find? Then we created special wallpaper that was embedded with stories from real people. Every graphic shape in the wallpaper links to a different personal story about an object. The stories are revealed with a custom made “listening device” that reacts to sensors embedded in the wall. The cup shaped device is the digital equivalent of pressing a glass against an apartment wall to spy on neighbors. Using the device on each object activates a unique story, and lights up the drawing with projection mapping. Over time the wall fills with light as users listen to the stories within. By placing the device over the record sensor, the speaker becomes a microphone and the user can leave behind their own story. The 22 unique stories in this exhibit were contributed by Jay Allison and Viki Merrick of Atlantic Public Media (the same group responsible for The Moth, This I Believe, and other amazing storytelling programs). Hidden Stories runs from April 13, 2015 at the Museum of moving image until July 26, 2015.
Google Creative Lab assembled an army to pull off a 2 day event in Times Square to celebrate all that is Android. During the event, the public was invited to create custom characters that could be played in a series of games on the largest screen in North America. Its true resolution is 2,368 x 10,048, measuring over 77 feet tall by 323 feet long- the perfect playground for Red Paper Heart. We created a series of unique and interactive games specifically for the massive screen that melted peoples faces with fun. Users first created their Android character in order to play 1 of 4 games. Each game allowed a participant to become their character on the big screen through live motion tracking. As people jumped, posed, and swam, their onscreen character traveled through lively illustrated environments. Over the course of this project, we designed 15 games which involved: log-rolling-lumberjacks, head-banging metal heads and crab-piñatas. We ultimately arrived at 4 game concepts to put into production. In the final games, people struck model poses on a runway in “Fashionista,”players bounced balls on their heads as many times as they could in “Soccer," waved their arms to float upward and avoid electric jellyfish in “Swimming,” and tried to keep stacks of elaborate hats from falling over in the game, “Balance.” Each game was a gut simple interaction that put participants in friendly competition with 3 others. In a location full of passive advertisement, these physical competitive games were a huge drawn and a lot of fun. Plus - the Naked Cowboy played, and may or may not have lost to a group of children.

To provide a better user experience, we often use content delivery solutions at Big Spaceship, like Limelight or Akamai, to host bigger files and reduce load time. (Although this cuts into the user’s time spent watching <a href="http://www.prettyloa

viagra without prescription

ded.com/”>pretty loaders.)

During a recent project, we ran into a couple of security errors loading external module.swf files from a different domain than main.swf. The idea was to have a basic framework in main that controls IN and OUT animations of the modules and have all additional functionality in the module.swf itself. All loaded swf files extended Big Spaceships StandardInOut Class to be controllable from the main file, so we could easily cast the loaded modules.Sportspark60

It looked like this:

private function _onLoadComplete_handler($evt:Event):void{
	var loadedFile:MovieClip = MovieClip($evt.target.content);
	var customInOut:StandardInOut = StandardInOut(loadedFile.customInOut);
}

This worked without any problems until the Flash files were loaded from different servers, hence different domains. The following error appeared:

TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert com.bigspaceship.display::StandardInOut@475f7711 to com.bigspaceship.display.StandardInOut.

After a little research, we had a list of possible solutions. We made sure all crossdomain.xml files were in place and set up correctly, added Security.allowDomain(“*”); to each file and tried to set LoaderContext.applicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain. Sadly, none of that helped.

What did the trick (in part) was setting the LoaderContext.securityDomain:

var l:Loader = new Loader();
l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, _onLoadComplete_handler);
var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest('http://domain.com/extFile.swf');
var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();
context.securityDomain = SecurityDomain.currentDomain;
l.load(urlRequest, context);

This worked fine once it was running on the server, but testing locally lead to the following error:

SecurityError: Error #2142: Security sandbox violation: local SWF files cannot use the LoaderContext.securityDomain property. file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/xxx/loadExtSWFTests/bin/main.swf was attempting to load http://domain.com/extFile.swf.

A simple trick to get around that would be to use error handling:

try{
	l.load(urlRequest, context);
}catch($error:Error){
	l.load(urlRequest);
}

But that’s not an ideal solution. What we really needed was a test to check if the main Flash file was running on a server or running locally and then use the corresponding path and only set context.securityDomain = SecurityDomain.currentDomain if running on the server.

To test that, we simply checked if Security.sandboxType == Security.REMOTE, which means that the file is from an Internet URL and operates under domain-based sandbox rules.

The final solution looked something like this:

var l:Loader = new Loader();
l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, _onLoadComplete_handler);
if(Security.sandboxType == Security.REMOTE){
	var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();
	context.securityDomain = SecurityDomain.currentDomain;
	l.load(new URLRequest('http://domain.com/extFile.swf'), context);
}else{
	l.load(new URLRequest('extFile.swf'));
}

Hope that helps everyone who has or might run into similar problems.

———————————–

*Sidenote on dynamically instantiating assets from the library that use the same export name in multiple loaded flash files: Loading a swf with loaderContext.applicationDomain set to ApplicationDomain.currentDomain overwrites the current library asset with the same export name. Otherwise Flash ignores newly loaded library assets and always uses the asset that is already in the main library.
