Haile Selassie never drank and he may have trimmed but he never shaved and he always had some sort of locks and sometimes, especially in his formative years, rather long. If you also read up on Tafari’s youth you would see the miraculous and mystical acts which he performed and we know that Tafari is currently working on a high and mystical level for Black freedom. If you also are read in the scriptures you will read both in the Books of Daniel and Revelation of that period of time when the Holy City would be trod under the feet of Gentiles and the invasion of Ethiopia was not a surprise to the well read. Again the parallels between Israel and Ethiopia are useful here. In a world were man’s wickedness and lust for power is unprecedented these things will happen. However in the Bible itself not only did the God of Israel see Israel overrun several times and see Israelites massacred but on several occasions the God of Israel actually engineered the attack and massacring of Israelites by foreign powers of the day. This was not an unusual punishment for a nation that forsook God. Thus Marcos Garvey taught that similarly the black race was suffering for having forgotten God. One other thing I can say is that to receive information through the five senses is impressive but it is more impressive to receive divine revelation, it is wonderful to beget a child through the loins but it is more powerful to spiritually beget a son as the Sons of God are begotten through spiritual means. And although Rasta is not to be justified through Christianity there are several parallels and one great one is that when Yesus sought disciples unto himself he did not seek learned men but common fishermen who he taught and inspirited to become more nobly fishers of men. Finally Rasta is unique as a religion in that its leader was not chosen through self-praise or self-aggrandizing 2nd Corinthians 3;1 teaches that it is not really virtuous to recommend one’s self and Haile Selassie lived a life free from this.

No one that tries to bring God down to their own standard can be uplifted by God. No one that tries to make God act according to their own way can receive guidance from God, and no one that tries to make God conform to their own understanding can learn of God. To understand Rasta we must avoid looking at Rasta too much from an overly human perspective as this if it were possible would be to carnalize Rasta. There is so much about Rasta written in mystery and prophesy for the diligent to seek. In the Jewish religion it is said that there is never a coincidence and Haile Selassie was the only Conquering Lion of Judah. I mention the Jewish religion here not because Rasta is to be justified by Judaism but because it is historic and mystical that there are special parallels between Israel and Ethiopia. Israel are taken to be a chosen people but it was Ethiopia where God choose to place the first human beings. Amos 9:7 records ‘Are you not like the children of the Ethiopians to me, children of Israel?" says Yahweh.’ Likewise the justification of being a supreme being is not to be found specifically or particularly in a book of Jewish origins, nor is it to be found in a concept or a name of Jewish origins. Haile Selassie is more than just a man, or a man’s body or a man’s form and this is something Rastas know. The very word trinity indicates this. This is where many Christians also get confused. They say Jesus came from heaven and has re-ascended into heaven but if Jesus’ spirit was transmuted to earth and this was heaven entering earth, did his physical body made of earth material ascend to Heaven and was this - The earth entering heaven? Is flesh allowed to enter The Kingdom of Heaven? See 1 Corinthians 15:50. God works in mysterious ways and most people would know that Marcos Garvey was an enigma and that it is presumptuous to say that Marcos Garvey did not accept the Rastafarian movement. I have read your article but I was mostly wondering what reasons Rastafarians have to consider Haile Selassie God. I do not think of the Emperor in a negative way, in fact I believe he was a very wise king, a very important figure in African history, and that his exile and the Ethiopian monarchy being overthrown were a great tragedy. But I personally don't see the reasons why Haile Selassie is considered God by some Rastafarians. I know that you do not and that you have written a great article describing how not all Rastafarians believe that Haile Sellassie is God but the fact is many do (as can be seen in some comments). I am not upset, trying to tell them they are wrong, or hating their beleifs but I am curious of the reasons some have for believing that Haile Selassie is God.

Haile Selassie never said he was God so how do you know he is? This religion started in Jamaica which was under colonial rule and wanted hope and found it in this black king. Why didn't the movement begin in Ethiopia and why didn't Ethiopians believe Haile Selassie was God?

Marcus Garvey who made the ''prophecy'' of a black king being crowned in africa never accepted the movement wrote against Haile and became a Roman Catholic. Rastafarianism began by uneducated Jamaicans who have no reason to beleive in Haile other than maybe a few verses in Revelations and his name. Haile Selassie died and said he was mortal but many Rastas beleive he lives on. If Haile was the almighty God what did he do to prove it? Haile did nothing special he never performed miracles, never freed all blacks, never brought them back to Africa, and was exiled. How can God be exiled of his own country. Haile never wrote a scripture to follow and many Rastas dont eat meat, drink, grow long hair, and smoke ganja and Haile who Rastas claim is God did none of those things.

And what of Hailes children? Are they Gods? Are they just human or son of Gods? Why are they not Rastas? Did Haile not reveal himself to his own family? Haile Selaisse was just a simple Ethiopian Orthodox King who lived and died. He did nothing exceptional but was an icon for suppressed Africans everywhere.

You have nothing to back up your claim of Haile being devine and your assumptions are good for nothing.

However the Haile taught that it is possible for a one to become dispossessed and disenfranchised from this threeness in a real way. As he said a person without religion can be compared to a body without a soul. As perfection the Trinity represents three 7s and to dis the Trinity is to draw three 6s and to reap a one way ticket to the bottomless pit and to eternal shame. Haile Selassie I manifested in the world in the most vicious power struggle ever fought not only as the Trinity but as the Power of the Trinity. It is clear too that in today’s world too, spiritual warfare must be the most sacred affair of the I-thiopian state. Yet another amazing plan of this gov't, a minority coalition with support by the right wing extremist Geert Wilders and his "Freedom Party" whose racism against Arabs is well established, as well as the heavy Christian Calvinistic Theocracy party "SGP" (State-Reformed Party, Reformed as in the denomination) who wants to abolish women's voting rights and re-instutute the death penalty. Only because the "big parties" have so much lost their voters that such extreme parties actually do have a say in the every day policy of the administration.

The current administration has a very ancient view on ganja and the coffee shops. They refuse to regulate the "back door", that is where the coffee shop owners get their weed, have succesfully preyed upon the small growers who en masse have stopped growing because of totalitarian repression so that now the majority of the weed growing in the Netherlands has come in the hands of criminal gangs. All of this in an evironment in Europe and the USA and Canada where there seems to be a tendencee towards regulating, decriminalizing et cetera of the weed smokers.

Now they want to put weed with a THC level higher than 15% in the same category as heroin and cokane. This is not only an absurdity, it is also not controlable. Should coffee shop owners all build a laboratory where they have to check every single bud on it's THC level? And should the police do the same when they check out the weed storage of a coffeeshop? Not, that this matters to this administration: they will most likely say: "because we can't check it, all coffee shops must be closed". This is exactly what at least one of the two parties of the minority coalition aims at, and they're quite open and frank about it too.

This country is being held hostage by neo-cons, theocrats, and racists like Geert Wilders. I personally find it incredible to be observing all of the things the current coalition wants to put through parliaments. This country is already a police state, where many of the laws during Nazi occupation are re-introduced (like the obligation to carry ID etc) under the guise of "security". Racist laws are already there or are in preparation, open talks about the creation of ghetto's ("thug villages", as Geert Wilders calls them) et cetera.

In my personal journey with Jah I am detaching more and more, so I'm not touched by it like I would have been a few years ago. Yesus said: "My Kingdom Is Not Of This World" and that's a thing I learn more and more every day. Maranatha, Come Lord Yesus!

Even if Haile Selassie had said that he was not God this in itself would not have been proof enough that he was not. Words are just words; to go with the words you need to understand context, spirit, purpose and effect (It is not a stray arrow business or an off-key business). Many are quick to assert that Haile Selassie exalted the Jesus of Nazareth over himself, as God, while he himself was not God: however we need to look at the context of all this. Firstly this can be seen as the fill fulling of 2 Peter 5:5 “...Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God RESISTETH THE PROUD, AND GIVETH GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.” Secondly Haile Selassie was the defender of the faith – officially - accordingly with this title he lived his defence of the faith. Yet while the faith believed that the Divine and the Human were one in Yesus or Jesus, he himself said that no human being could interfere in the realm of God. Haile Selassie also said that no mortal man emanates from God or is God; some are quick to say this is proof that he was not God but that Yesus or Jesus was God. Yet Yesus or Jesus was a mortal man or was mortal as a man. What do you call somebody who dies - no matter if they resurrect or no matter how glorious that death was. One can reap immortality through death as it is said that death is the Gateway to the Place of Eternity and the Bible teaches 1 Corinthians 15:54 that Death will be finally swallowed up in Immortality. But to do this a man must as such reinsure their lives in the Immortal Father who can never die even as Jesus did on Calvary. In the right context Haile Selassie I accepted the All in All as God, God is infinite and omnipresent. In the right context Haile Selassie I rejected all man as God, Yesus or Jesus included - no man can interfere in the realm of God. Many flocked to the Haile believing that in this dispensation he would have changed the whole system of things by abolishing the sate. But Haile Selassie put blood, sweat and tears into the state and stated that Religion was personal but that the State was for all. As God, and not man, God is the head of true religion but also as God, and not man, he is also the head of the State of States because the state is also reality. One should not make the mistake of believing that the King of Kings is necessarily 'not God' however. Kingship signifies 1) Maleness and 2)Headship. Even an animal can be a King. One of The most venomous of snakes for example is known as the King Cobra while the Lion is famed as the King of the Jungle. However it is not impossible that a King can be a non-physical thing or a primarily disembodied spirit which has the power to take on a physical form at his perogative as it were. The King of Kings, or the Male Head of all other powers, is the ruler which is not obliged to be subject to any other thing or any other one. Haile Selassie however did not come to oblige for he taught that a Leader should not bound and compel but should be of a different sort and should best lead through interest, example and inspiration. One granting Mercy cannot have been compelled to grant it or it would not have been mercy nor can a Master be forced to serve in any capacity or else he would be a Slave and not a Master.

Your title is "Haile Selassie is not God" but I actually find a lack in your comments about who God really is. There are a lot of powers in the world and it seems that you are proposing a Yoshuan/Yesus/Jesus Kingdom over a Haile Selassie/Rastafarian Kingdom. We all know that Yesus has been called God we know that Yesus is inextricably tied up in the things of God; likewise Haile Selassie the same. It has never been however unequivocally proved that Yoshua/ Yesus/Jesus was God, just like it has not been proved that Haile Selassie is unequivocally God persay. Likewise it has not been unequivocally proved that they are not God. Further while they have been both referred to as God it has never been categorically identified what that reference really means. At the end of the day this whole world is based in meaning. Some call on the same name but mean different things. They have been cultures that worshipped the same Sun, for example, in history; and their religions were radically different. Similarly too they are others that call on God or the Creator by the same name and they are, rather than living in harmony; locked in deadly conflict. Don’t forget that in the World Wars opposing sides were blessed in the name of Christ to slaughter each other. To establish something that will endure forever, one must root it in the ultimate. It is possible that this is what adherents to the Yoshuan/Yesus/Jesus Kingdom are doing and also what adherents to the Haile Selassie/Rastafarian Kingdom are doing. Even if you believe in infinite regress God is the all in all and has authority both as Creator and as Created. Two cannot walk unless they agree but it is useless to pit a Yoshuan Doctrine against a Rastafarian Doctrine. In the Salvation history which we have; Jesus came to the lost sheep of Isreal (Matthew 15:24) but the movement of the spirit showed that the favour of God was not longer to be found in the Household of Israel exclusively, in today’s world Haile Selassie came to Christiandom but the movement of the Spirit showed that the favour of God was not to be found first and foremost in World Christianity in these times but in the Nation of Rastafari. Haile Selassie did make specific references which rendered praise to Jesus Christ of Nazareth and by inference the God of Isreal. However as a man of integrity he made it known to us that the secret to this was that a man has a right to seek the Prime Mover in his own way, so Greater Great is that one, (and many of the things Haile Selassie I did was according to his own individual prerogative and also for the sake of the Great Unity of Ethiopia). So from this you can see that a Christian seeking Christ is not necessarily of any more merit say than a Hindu praising Lord Shiva. However Good is perpetually over evil so mind-blowing is the Zionous way... You Messian Dread can exercise your right to seek The Christ of Nazareth but not necessarily to superimpose your interpretations of scripture as more valid than the Rastafarian’s. Regarding what is called God and what is called Creator. We should realise that those are very human perspective. One only becomes God with something to rule over and only becomes Creator through having created something. That which is above the realm of man is only revealed to man by the divine; that regarding Creation which is not known by memory and knowledge is to be best fathomed by logic and understanding. Academically speaking the world we have, the time we have, the space we have, are all propositions. While we do not accept that time and space (as we know it) always existed we must accept that absolute space and eternity always existed. Naturally something that is infinite or absolute cannot come into being else-wise it would not be infinite, further if measured time always existed it would not be measured it would be infinite. Infinite time is also known as eternity. That infinite expanse of time without spatial limit which always was, is the Almighty Ancient of Days I. However it is illogical to presume that an infinitely highly ordered personality existed without propositions regarding that personality being put forward and realised. However only one proposition regarding limitation and measurement needed to be put forward to create an infinitely intricate universe of time and space. Only one differing reality is needed to create an immeasurable number of angles and perspectives. That differing reality is contained in the concept of the Trinity (however you may look at it) and 'all' the ancient scholars knew this. (1 infinity) (1 proposition or prime movement) and the (limitless functions this creates). Mathematically - (Point 1) (Point 2) and (the generated function/s). Or as it has been said 'Without the Trinity life couldn't gwan'. Haile Selassie means Power of the Trinity. He is representative of the bridge between the infinite and the created. While it may not be fruitful to consider that there can be such a thing as 'no life in an absolute', just as every created thing has a centre of gravity, it is to be inferred that there is a centre of gravity in the infinite as well, representative of the source of all life, the head of all and the object of eternal veneration. is it true that the average wage in Jamaica is $80 usd per week? I don't know. At least it says so in Seifert's film, but if it's true, he paid a daily wage for an "interview" to locals, is this bad behaviour on the part of the producer?
