DAMN.... I am speechless. I just read through this with my mouth half open in awe.

I guess you made a conscious decision at some point about how to live. glad you did.

My parents got divorced in first grade. A moving van drove up to the house one day, and I thought we were getting new neighbors. That night I slept in a new house. My brother, mom and I moved something like 9 or 10 times before moving to birmingham, al in the middle of 4th grade for my mom's first real job in my lifetime. I talked with some kids in birmingham, and they all seemed to have steady lives. So I decided I didn't want to remember anything. Even now, I have almost no memory from before 4th grade, or of much traumatic that has happened to me. I could tell you the event happened, but zero details. I guess that's just a "defense mechanism." BTW, I am sure not trying to one-up you... just a little background and how I dealt with shit in the past.

I can't imagine how you see so much good in the world. I guess you said it... doesn't come easy, and you've come a long way.
Cool, man. Cool.

Thanks, Denise. I'm glad you bumped into my picture, too :-) Did you notice the t-shirt in the cowboy picture is from the Great Smoky Mountains? Representin' North Carolina!!

Yeah, it's funny the seemingly disproportionate hoops we jump through for various things, like everything required to get a drivers license versus the ability to walk into a sporting goods store and buy a shotgun, or send ill-equipped parents home with a living child to raise into the world. This isn't directed towards you, but a bit of an addendum to the post - The one thing I just want to point out is this certainly isn't a bash at mine (or anyone's) parents. Ya know what, shit happens. I know I take on things I'm not prepared or capable of all the time in all aspects of life. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - doing this with a child seems much more dangerous, but I'm not a parent, so I try not to judge. Everything that happens to us in our lives makes us exactly who we are at any given moment, and that will never change - so understanding and acceptance is the only way I see to approach it. Doesn't come easy, and I've come a long way with it (and soooo many other things) over a very long time. But I wrote it to be informative, yet light hearted - like most things splat up here.

I really think the presentation and the addition of the photos here makes it even more of a story to be shared. To see these photos next to the powerful story you have the "balls" and courage to share is awesome. Aww and the look on the little cowboy ... just puts it all into perspective that one photo...

You know they make you jump through hoops ect to get a damn drivers license ... but dammit they need to do something more before they let parents take precious innocent souls home from the hospital.

I like the person you are and very glad to have bumped into that crazy first photo I saw of you on DA "snare"...

Haha awesome. I somehow missed out on the stage where most people become afraid of cockroaches. I'd put him in my mouth for a candy necklace and a butterfinger. Homeboy was just flipped over upside down so I took a couple of shots and got him back on his feet again.
