No fucking kidding, I never would have figured that one out.

Apparently, says some guy from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, gay men and their health care providers don’t know that unprotected sex can transmit hepatis C.

There’s good news though. The cure rate for hep C is high with early detection.( Science Daily)

Really, and it’s not just because they’re paying for sex, which is a crime in the Boston area, where the study was conducted? Apparently not. The study found that nearly 75 percent of the men who paid for sex said they learned about sex from porn while a mere 54 percent of the men who told the researchers they did not pay for sex reported learning about sex from porn. There were also some very vague noises about men who pay for sex having a lower opinion of women, but we’re talking very vague, and we’re not buying it.

Of course, we’re not the least bit surprised that the study was led by clinical psychologist and anti-prostitution activist Melissa Farley.

Who would ever have thought that? But a group of researchers, if, by researchers, you mean people who get government grants to prove the obvious, published a new study in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research showing that people who drink at tailgating parties are often drunk by the end of the game. Duh! It’s not like American sporting events are anything more than displays of adolescent machismo and violence, and what better to celebrate adolescent machismo and violence than way too much alcohol than the body is actually able to handle? And not just that, but tailgating — I mean, aside from eating dead animals in a parking lot, what other purpose is there? But you simple must read the results in the researchers own words:

In this assessment, 40% of the participants had a positive (blood alcohol content), ranging from 0.005 to 0.217. Those who reported tailgating before the event had 14 times the odds of having a BAC > 0.08 and those under age 35 had nearly 8 times the odds of having a BAC > 0.08 (both compared to a zero BAC). Attendees of Monday night football games were more likely to have positive BACs compared to attendees at all other games.

I must admit I’m a tad surprised, though, that Monday night football causes more drunkenness than other games.

At about age 25, they start getting stigmatized for not being married.

Well, duh.

Because that is what women are supposed to do, you know. Find a man and give up on life.

And guess what form that usually takes? Little jokes, mostly from family. Amanda Marcotte at Pandagon:

What I thought was most interesting about the study was that a lot of the pressure on single women to be ashamed of themselves and to feel desperate for validation comes in forms disguised as cute and harmless, so the women also feel unable to push back. Family “jokes” making fun of them for being unpicked by some random guy, for instance. Or the horrible tradition of the bouquet toss at weddings, a tradition that exists solely to make unmarried women feel bad about themselves. There’s no way to win the bouquet toss situation. If you don’t participate in the ritualistic shaming of the unmarried, you’re a spoilsport. If you throw yourself into it, you’re a screeching, desperate harpy confirming every negative stereotype about women — the big one being that they’re nothing without male validation, and will debase themselves to get it. Women who choose to stand there and let the bouquet drop at their feet while others scramble for it are finding the closest thing to a way out, but they’re still going to be treated like they’re acting superior. You can’t win. Except by getting married and exempted from the ritual humiliation.

Now, who saw these results coming? I mean, gee, women are so respected in our culture.
