Nothing says Christmas like the Taos Pueblo bonfires. Well, maybe Santa and Rudolph. And Frosty. And mistletoe and egg nog and tinsel. But if you're a Taoseno? Nothing compares to the Christmas Eve processional at the pueblo. Buffalo headdresses, cracking whips, gunfire, men and women draped in hand woven tribal blankets, and the Virgin Mother all gussied up and paraded through the village, on her way to the altar in the very old, very exquisite adobe church.

For alot of us, it's an excuse to be in the cold, at the edge of a huge fire, considering night among stars and smoke and empty tree limbs.

A gift for you, my readers! This is the first episode from my workshop "Once Upon a Time." In it, I describe the power of having, and living, your fairy Tale. This is one of the only videos that features not only an original piece of my writing, but one of Silas's original musical scores. Enjoy!

A boy. A girl. A circus. A showdown of imagination and magic.

Several folks told me I simply had to read this book. They were right. If you love Cirque du Soleil, Tim Burton films or Terry Gilliam films, or even if you love perusing old book shops in search of something frivilous and decandent from the art nouveau era, get this book. Silas and I have a collage that sits in our studio that reads "They Met at the Circus." This could have been the site of our original meeting somewhere in time.

So...Silas and I have a little pet project we're (for the moment) calling 42 Skidoo. It's art book of novelty pin up photography, all starring yours truly. It's something I always dreamed of doing, but told myself a bizillion reasons why I couldn't. And at 42, I'm finally making it a reality. Well, for now it's real only on my computer. We'll see what happens in print. But I thought you might like to follow along as the photos are made. This one was shot October 31, a spontaneous Day of the Dead shoot following my wild morning make up session.

As a testament to the unplannedness of it all, our camera is still in the shop, so all these were snapped with an Iphone. Strange but true.

I used to write in Laini Taylor 's weekly creative group Sunday Scribblings. Some of my juciest work was written in that forum, spurred by the talents of gifted writers. Yet I never ceased to be amazed at Laini's offerings. I remember something about the way she described a tomato garden that made my mind literally lift off from my brain and orbit the planet Pluto. This girl is going to be a star was all I could think. Well, that and Someone give this girl a contract. And maybe How can I fit this genie into a shapely bottle and make her grant all my talent wishes?

That was five plus years ago, before Laini had published her first book. Now she's up to number four, and her latest Daughter of Smoke and Bone is nothing short of extraordinary. Word on the Internet street is that it's been optioned by Universal to become a film. Move over Stephanie Meyers. Laini's come to the playground and her writing boots have spurs.
