But good job, UE!

Reaching the Finals where no one expected you to be is such a huge achievement already, and I salute you for that.

Elmer Espiritu, Pari Llagas, Rudy Lingganay, and Val Acuna, I wish you all the best on your journey outside the collegiate arena. Thanks for being a part of the UE Team I used to love and will always love.

Elmer. For me, no player in the coming future can ever replicate the dunk only you can do with such character and conviction. Your dunk, your block, your rebound, all those I will surely miss. But of course, I will miss YOU.

Pari, I don't know how long UE can find a big man to replace you and your remarkable skill and talent. Your presence on the court makes a huge difference to the team's game.

Rudy, I know, you're small but terrible. It's just so sad that throughout your collegiate career, you weren't given the credit you rightfully deserve.

Val, I only noticed you this season, but you already left a mark in my memory. Thanks for your 3-pointers that led UE to the Finals.

Again, I would like to congratulate you guys for finishing this season strong. Though others may not see it, I can surely feel it. If other people's definition of 'finishing strong' is becoming the Champions, then mine's different. It's slowly climbing to the top, even if everybody already judged you out. No one ever considered you as a contender, but then you proved them wrong by 'beating twice' the twice-to-beat advantage. It's giving the Defending Champions the wake-up call they need by sending the Final Series into Game 3.

With four veterans graduating this season, the future of the UE Red Warriors seems unclear. What will happen to them now that their master dunker and shot blocker is gone? Who can fill the gap left by the big man who always makes his presence felt on the court? Who will have the courage to take 3-point shots that two of the team's former members usually do?

At least I know there are still players who'd be willing to step up and take the challenge. Next year, Paul Lee will be the main man. I know he has the skills, the talent, and leadership to take the team where they should be. Also, there's Raffy Reyes. The ever aggressive, intense, and dedicated player who can serve as the spark the team needs to explode. James Martinez will be coming back next season. I hope he delivers the same, if not a better performance, he showed last season. And of course, the rest of the Red Warriors will serve a vital role to steer the team to success. I wish them the best.

To Coach Lawrence, good job on your first year as a collegiate coach! I'm looking forward to watch the next season of PBL, and of course UAAP 73. Keep up the good work!

I wasn't able to watch the Game 3. Maybe that's why UE lost. HAHA. Because look, I missed Game 1, Ateneo won. I watched Game 2, UE won. And now that I failed to watch Game 3, Ateneo won! arrgh. I knew it! I'm the lucky charm of UE! HAHAHA.

Oh well... Despite the ampalaya-ness I feel, I should congratulate Ateneo for a good season. 13-1. Thanks to UP for that '1'. haha. It would be boring if Ateneo won all their 14 games. If I'm not mistaken, they'd be the automatic Champions if they finished 14-0. And that's BOOOOORIIIIIIIIIIING.......

I have to say goodbye to Jai and Nonoy.

Jai-namite! Thanks for your 3-pointers! You're one of the consistent 3-point shooters I know in the UAAP. But that's not what I'll remember about you. You will forever stay in my memory as the Eagle that looks like Chris Tiu. And both your 3-point shooting skills. :)

Nonoy BLOCK-lao.. The memory you left in my mind was that strong, powerful block you made on Rico Maierhofer last season. That was a-w-e-s-o-m-e. I know you're just the silent worker and masipag player in the team. That's one of the things I admire about you, your humility. Doesn't brag about his strengths and skills, but just shows what he got on the court.

Another season of the UAAP Men's Basketball came to an end, but as always, it just keeps me hungry for more. I feel excited for next year. Who are the new players? Who would enter the Final Four? Which teams would face each other in the Finals? I'm just soooo excited to know the answers!!

Franz Pumaren Resigns

News spread like wildfire in La Salle today when it was learned that Franz Pumaren resigned as coach of the De La Salle Green Archers. Effective January 1, 2010, Dindo Pumaren is taking over as coach. With Dindo as coach, that makes him the last of the Pumaren family to mentor the Green Archers.

It was learned that Manager Tery Capistrano also resigned.

The reason for the resignation of Coach Franz is his desire to run for congress in the coming elections, something eveyone close to him knew for quite some time. It is noble of him to choose which of the two is more important to him at this time.

Game 1 is just Game 1.

It's not yet the end of the Finals.

Learn from FEU. they had the twice-to-beat advantage coming into the Final Four, but it became useless. We all know what happened. They were beaten twice.

Overconfidence can kill..... games.

They won B-I-G-T-I-M-E against the "Defending Champions", the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

while in the games where Ateneo won against UE, they won by an average of 8.5 points. wala lang. :))

They had nothing to lose, but they have everything to gain.

kung matalo man sila ngayong season, syempre masakit. andun na kasi eh. isang game na lang.

pero kung manalo sila, WOW. sobrang saludo na talaga ako sa kanila. and they'll become a part of UAAP's history.

haha. though i love UP more (of course!), UE is now the 2nd team i really support. third na lang Ateneo. wala na kasi si Chris Tiu! :))

anyway, sa klase ng laro ni Raffy Reyes, nafi-feel kong may future talaga siya nang bonggang-bongga. aggressive, nakiki-rebound kahit na ang mga kaagaw niya eh mga higante (i.e. Al-Hussaini, Baclao, Salva, Llagas, Espiritu), todo effort sa pag-pilit na maka-steal, ETC. haaai... cute/gwapo pa. HAHAHA. yun pala yun eh. :))

aalis na ngayon sila Espiritu, Llagas, Acuna, at Lingganay. pero confident naman ako kasi maiiwan sila Paul Lee, Raffy Reyes, Paul Zamar, at babalik na si James Martinez. yun nga lang..... puro maliliit na yun! sino na lang matangkad sa UE?!?! oh no...

pero kaya yan. naniniwala ako kay Coach Lawrence. nung sa PBL ko lang siya unang nakita't napanood, pero naging Cobra supporter na rin ako nun dahil sa team (na majority ay UE players) at sa laro nila. syempre salamat kay Coach!

speaking of Coach... rookie coach siya ngayong season. ADMU ang kalaban sa Finals. Si Coach Norman Black ang coach ng Ateneo. nanalo ang ADMU sa Game 1, nanalo ang UE sa Game 2. hmm......... Season 69, isdatchu? HAHA. ouch yun eh. :))

ang matalo ka ng isang "Rookie Coach" sa GAME 2 at GAME 3. oooooouuuuccchhhh......

naalala ko lang kasi yung Finals na yun. :))

basta, basta... sa Game 3 na lang siguro ako mag-b-blog ng matino. manalo man o matalo ang UE, PUPURIHIN KO PA RIN SILA. HAHA. pasensya na, biased kasi eh. :))

at syempre, hindi ko makakalimutang magpasalamat kay Lord, kasi dininig nya ang prayer ko simula pa lang nung Thursday after ng Game 1. hanggang sa dasal ko kanina sa mass. SALAMAT, SALAMAT, SALAMAT PO.

Our Adventures while Volunteer-hopping

Ang saya saya ng araw na 'to. Kahit na bonggang bonggang kapaguran ang inabot ko, keri lang. at least alam kong in my own little way, indirectly ay nakatulong ako sa mga nangangailangan. hindi man sakin nanggaling ang kinain at ginamit nila pansamantala, ako naman ang naging daan para magkatagpo sila. :)

Nagsimula ang araw ko nang dalhin ako ni daddy sa may Brgy. Tumana sa Marikina. Binaha din sila nang matindi at may kasama pang putik dahil katabi lang nila ang Tumana River. pagdaan namin ay kanya-kanyang linis, laba at pag-aayos ang mga tao sa kalsada. Maputik talaga. (see pictures here.) Habang nakikita ko yung ginagawa at itsura ng inabot ng mga bahay nila, mas lalo akong nalulungkot para sa lahat ng mga nasalanta, at mas lalo akong nagpapasalamat na hindi ganun ang nangyari samin. Kung sa TV nakakaawa na, mas lalo na pag LIVE. :(

Pagkagaling namin dun, hinatid na ko sa BA. as usual, ang tahimik ng BA pag walang tao. anyway, 9:30 dumating na si Joan and her cousin Shawn/Shaun (di ko lam spelling! sorry. :P). sabi ni rose, mauna na daw kami tas susunod na lang siya. so our first stop: Church of the Risen Lord (CRL).

Pagdating namin, madami nang tao. pero nag-sign pa rin kami. pagpasok namin sa loob, MAS madaming tao. halos lahat super busy na sa ginagawa nila. pero madami din na kakarating lang na naghihintay pa ng i-a-assign sa kanila. at isa (tatlo) na kami dun. so after ilang minutes ng panonood sa mga busy people, ginather na kami nung isang parang head volunteer.

tapos sabi, sobra na daw yung volunteers so mamaya pa kami ma-a-accommodate. sabi, 12 pm, mag-p-prepare ng food. tas 1 pm, deliver na to different places. e asbi nila joan, di daw pwede i-deploy kasi di ata pinayagan yung pinsan nya. so ayun, nagpaalam na kami na lilipat na lang kami sa UPSCA kasi meron din daw sila Chloe. pumayag naman sila. :)

tapos pagdating naman namin sa entrance ng Parish of the Holy Sacrifice (sa likod na side), natakot sila/kami kasi para makapunta dun sa kabilang side, kelangan pa dumaan sa may parang mga nakaburol. eh nakakahiya (and at the same time, scary) naman na makidaan dun. so ayun, ang tagal namin naghintay sa labas ng church. tas nagtext si chloe na after lungch pa siya makakarating.

eh si Joan naiinip na. haha. atat na atat nang magtrabaho. so sabi niya, "ABS kaya?" edi ayun. hinintay muna namin si Rose tapos hinatid pa kami hanggang ABS-CBN. kaya lang nung nagtanong na kami kay Kuya Guard, closed na daw ang registration. FINE. haha. dami din naghihintay sa labas. puro mga kabataan din. feeling ko tuloy para kaming nasa auditions para sa PBB. :))

pero ayun nga. no chance for ABS. so naghanap muna kami ng makakain. halos lunch time na nun eh. at grabe lang yung nilakad namin mula dun sa entrance ng Sagip Kapamilya (ELJ Comm. Tower side) hanggang Crossings sa Quezon Ave. winner! haha. Alay Lakad ang drama namin. :))

sa Subway kami nag-lunch. napakagandang volunteer work db? wala pa nga kaming nagagawa tas bongga na yung kinain namin. :)) malapit na kaming sumuko nun kasi naka-kalahating araw na pero wala pa kaming napag-volunteer-an. dinedicate pa naman namin ang araw na 'to para sa pagtulong. :(

pero syempre, ayoko namang masayang ang effort namin. so nagtext ako kay Roy kung kelangan pa ba sa Red Cross. eh sabi niya kaninang 7 am pa daw. tas tanungin ko daw si Carol kasi nasa Miriam daw siya. so nagka-glimmer of hope sa aming mga puso kahit pano. may pag-asa pa! :)

edi tinext ko na si Carol tas nagtanong ako kung kelangan pa ba ng volunteers dun. tas sabi nya baka pwede pa daw, chuva chuva. basta in short, nag-decide na kaming apat na pumunta sa Miriam College.

and so there we were. :)

nung una, sabi sa 1-4 pm shift daw, tatlo lang ang pwede. e apat kami db. so sabi nila, ang next na shift ay 4-7 pm. wow, gabi na 'to. pero sige, since ayaw na talaga naming masayang ang araw namin at para maka-experience na rin talaga mag-volunteer, ok na lang. eh mga 1:30 pa lang nun eh. so sabi namin, alis muna kami. balik kami ng mga 3:30. iniisip namin kung mag-iikot ba sa MC o lilibot sa Ateneo. we chose the latter. gusto na rin kasi sana namin tignan yung relief drive sa kanila.

sa ayun... ikot ikot, lakad lakad, tingin tingin sa Ateneo. sa buong Ateneo tour namin, kung anu-ano nang napag-usapan. mula sa course namin dapat dun kung dun kami pumasok, pareho kaming CommTech ni Joan! Health Sciences daw si Rose. (layo sa BA! haha.), hanggang sa iba't ibang religions at culture and practices nila, yung mga napagdaanan namin sa loob ng isang araw, kung gaano ka-iba ang Ateneo sa UP (in both positive and negative ways), at syempre pati si Chris Tiu nasali sa usapan! (hanap kasi ako nang hanap sa kanya. di ko naman siya nakita.)

after some time, naghanap kami ng makakainan or kahit vendo machine. at dahil dun, halos kung san san na kami napadpad. gusto ko rin kasi sana hanapin yung JGSOM. dun sana kami kung sa Ateneo kami. :P gusto ko din sana makita yung Chinky Chickens!!! at dahil sa pag-iikot ikot namin, napadpad kami sa College Covered Courts. naglalabasan na yung ibang mga tao! tapos na ata. so di na kami tumuloy pumasok.

tas sa wakas... nakarating na rin kami sa gusto kong puntahan. nakahanap na rin sila ng vendo so ok na kami pare-pareho. nag-stay muna kami sa mga upuan dun. at nag-chikahan muna. :)

dami na naman napag-usapan. haaii... ang sarap ng ganitong times. plus masarap pang tumambay dun kasi tahimik tsaka maluwag tsaka puro green (plants, trees, grass). sarap ng feeling! sabi nga ni Joan, "parang park". hai nako, wish ko may ganun sa BA. haha. kaya lang malabo. puro semento sa BA eh! :))

tapos nang malapit nang mag-3:30, umalis na kami kasi nag-allot talaga ng time kasi mawawala/maliligaw pa kami eh. para may allowance sa time kung maghahanap pa kami ng tamang daan. haha.

buti naman at nakabalik kami sa Miriam befor 4. so naghintay muna kami sa bench. at yes, nag-usap-usap na naman. naka-ilang kwento kaya kami ngayong araw na 'to? (meron pa kasi mamaya!) tapos mga 4, tinawag na kami. tinanong kung ok lang bang paghiwa-hiwalayin kami. pero mukhang napansin nila na ayaw namin so sabi sa registration/receiving area na lang daw "muna" kami. edi ok. happy. at least may gagawin na kami. masaya na ko dun. haha. so in-orient na kami and everything.

Gusto ko pa sanang isa-isahin lahat ng donors na dumating at naghatid ng donations eh. kaya lang baka sumoooooobrang haba na nito. basta nakakatuwa at nakakataba lang ng puso na totoo pala yung ganun. may mga nag-e-effort at may mga magagandang loob talaga na nagbibigay at nag-do-donate.

basta ilan sa mga naalala ko, yung nagdala ng 150+ bottles ng 1 L na water, na may kasamang mga batang cute yung naghatid. nung binababa na sa van, gusto nila sila magdala dun sa table. talagang willing silang buhatin yun e ang bibigat. pero ang cuuute nila! syempre ako nakibitbit din. yey! tapos grabe kasi nung paalis na yung matandang nag-donate, sya pa yung nag-sorry kasi parang hindi daw maayos yung packaging nila. (pero ok naman eh, maayos naman. may mga naka-plastic at naka-box pero meron nga lang isa na butas ata kaya tumutulo. pero keri lang.)

may iba't ibang donations kaming ni-receive. may tubig, instant noodles, powdered milk, medicines, sardines, pork and beans, crackers, uniforms (ng MC), used clothes, etc.

kelangan ipa-fill up sa donor yung name, address, contact nos. tapos kami, name and signature tsaka date. tapos kami din ang naglalagay ng items and quantity. ang original instruction samin, wag nang bilangin kung ilan yung laman ng bawat plastic/box. pero may lumabas na galing dun sa mga nag-re-repack na sabi, i-specify daw namin. syempre para nga naman sa inventory nila. so ayun, natuto na kami. binibilang na namin.

meron din palang mga lumalapit samin at nagtatanong kung pwede pa mag-volunteer. kaya lang sad kasi hindi na daw pwede sabi ni ate carla. tomorrow na lang daw. 7-12, 1-4, 4-7. so ayun. :(

btw, ang ganda ng CR nila. basta parang mall. malayong-malayo sa UP. at kahit BA. and even Econ na may hand dryer at mukhang pang-SM ang doors. yung sa kanila maganda talaga. oo nga pala, private school nga pala yun. :P

tuwing idle kami, syempre ano pa bang gagawin namin kundi mag-usap. haha. umabot pa sa ghost stories nung gabi na. dapat pala binilang ko kung naka-ilang topics kami ngayong buong araw. :)) bonding to the max ang drama namin. :P

pero ito. yung pinaka-"aww" moment namin ngayong araw.

kasi nung medyo kaka-umpisa pa lang namin, may dumating na nagtatanong kung open pa ba for volunteers. eh hindi na nga daw so ayun sabi namin tomorrow na lang bumalik. tas konting usap-usap pa. tapos nung paalis na sya, nasabi niya samin na yung Kuya Guard daw dun sa may gate parang nakwento na taga-Payatas daw sya tas sila din daw nasalanta. kaya lang sila mismo wala pang natatanggap na relief doon. so syempre kaming lahat na-sad. naisip ko parang kanina pa kami pabalik-balik dun sa gate tapos tinatanong kami kung san kami pupunta, tas kung para san. edi sinasagot namin volunteers po para dun sa relief drive. tapos yun pala sya mismo wala pang na-re-receive na tulong. :((

edi ayun. pagdating nung Secretariat dun sa table namin kasi may kinuha sya or binilin ata, sinabi na ni Joan yung tungkol nga dun sa guard. so ayun, nag-radyo sila dun sa mga guards sa gate tas tinanong kung sino yung taga-Payatas. so pinasa na nila dun sa Kuya Guard nga. tas tinanong ni Ate Secretariat kung affected area ba sila. tas sumagot si kuya "Yes, mam." waaah. nalungkot talaga ako/kami nun. :((

so after some time, may dumating nang Kuya Guard/s sa labas. dalawa pala sila. edi yun, paglabas na nila dun sa bldg, may dalawa na silang tig-isang box. haai. at least masaya kami kasi naging daan kami para matulungan sila. pero syempre super thank you din dun kay ate na nagsabi samin tungkol dun sa problema ni kuya guard. syempre kung hindi nya naman nasabi samin, hindi rin namin masasabi sa kanila.

for me yun talaga yung pinaka na-feel ko na nakatulong kami. feeling ko nga, mas masaya mag-volunteer sa receiving area. kasi doon, ikaw mismo yung tatanggap ng goods na dinonate. tapos yun nga, may interaction with the donors tas kami din nag-t-turnover sa mga nagpa-pack. tapos dun yung makikita at mararamdaman mo talaga yung mga gustong tumulong. both donors and volunteers sayo lalapit. :)

haaai... all in all, masaya talaga 'tong araw na 'to. kahit napagod kami kakalakad at kakahanap ng tatanggap samin na relief drive, at least napadpad kami dun sa kailangan talaga ng tulong namin at dun sa trabaho na self-fulfilling din. :)

salamat sa Miriam College sa pagtanggap sa amin. kahit na wala ni isa samin ang alumni ng school niyo, ok lang. naalala ko tuloy yung dati kong school (SHS). sana sa mga susunod pang mga relief drives na ganito makasama uli ako. :)

hai nalulungkot talaga ko sa mga nangyayari...

pero basta, hindi pa rin ako naniniwalang involved siya sa game-fixing. maglabas muna sila ng solid proof. pero kahit na mapatunayan mang totoo nga yun, hindi pa rin ako maniniwalang ginawa niya yun dahil gusto niya. napilitan lang siya.. kung buhay mo at ng mga mahal mo sa buhay ang nakasalalay, syempre papayag ka na db.. syempre ayaw niyang maging Mac Baracael part 2.

pero kasi naman di ba... bawal na bang magkaron ng off game ang isang magaling na player? may batas bang nagsasabi na dapat lahat ng games niya eh perfect? TAO DIN SIYA, ok? may mga panahon talagang minsan parang may magnet yung ring na palaging nashu-shoot ang bola, at minsan din parang same poles sila na laging nag-re-repel. hindi talaga mag-konek kahit anong gawin mo.

eh bakit last season, kahit si Chris Tiu at JV Casio may mga napanood akong games na parang wala talaga sila sa mga sarili nila kasi hirap na hirap talaga sila maka-shoot. pero bakit wala naman akong narinig na issue ng pagtatapon ng laro? unfair naman kay Barroca yung nangyayari ngayon.

tsaka oo nga... ang basketball ay isang TEAM GAME. kung off ang isa at sa tingin ng teammates niya eh wala naman siyang naitutulong, aba dapat naman eh may mag-step up sa kanila. hindi yung isisisi pa sa isang tao kung natalo man sila. which just shows na highly dependent sila kay Barroca. yang si RR Garcia (ayoko sa kanya, actually eh.), anong ginawa niya nung game against Ateneo? si Cawaling (na puro salita lang, pero parang bilang na bilang ang mga nashu-shoot)? si Jens Knuttel naka-ilang turnover? tas may dalawang players na nakalimutan ko na yung pangalan pero parang wala namang naitulong pero nag-ipon lang nang nag-ipon ng fouls, kaya ayun, 6 minutes pa ang natitira sa 4th quarter, penalty na agad sila. KASALANAN BA NI BARROCA YUN?

eh parang ang nagtrabaho lang naman sa kanila nun, si Ramos at Sanga. tas asa pa silang manalo sila? oo nga't nakalamang sila ng bonggang bongga nung first quarter. tapos nag-collapse. pero hindi naman kasalanan ni Barroca lahat yun. bakit kelangan sa kanya isisi lahat?

haai... mas lalong gustong-gusto ko nang UE ang manalo. dati medyo naguguluhan pa ko kasi nga gusto ko pareho ang UE at FEU. pero ngayon, nawala na yung main reason kung bakit ko sinusuportahan ang FEU, edi buong-buo na sa UE ang support ko.

basta Barroca, just go on with life. wag mong hayaang itong issue na 'to eh sirain ang buong buhay mo at kinabukasan mo. eventually, makakalimutan din yan... basta kung alam mong wala kang ginawang masama, fight for it! we're here to support you!

pang-apat, SIZZLING HOT ANG UE ngayon. hahaha. twist ba yun? ewan. basta umaapoy lang sila ngayon. :)) kaya talagang sila ang GUSTO kong mag-Champion.

pang-anim, i felt the competitiveness of UP this Season. last place nga uli siguro tayo, pero so what? at least nakita't napanood ko na kahit pano eh nag-improve at natuto na silang lumaban. may mga overtime games, mga super liit na final score difference, at may mga nag-step up at bagong dating na players. Welcome, Alvin Padilla!!! hahahahaha. ok. pero syempre may mga oldies but goodies pa rin. like Woody Ko (ay Co pala. haha) and Martin Reyes, oh yes.

pang-walo, pinatunayan na naman ng NU na sila ang major upsetters at spoilers ng UAAP. remember Season 70 uli nang talunin nila ang ADMU which caused ADMU's chance for the twice-to-beat advantage to suddenly disappear? ngayon naman, tinalo nila ang DLSU sa huling laban nila. at sa pinakamahalagang game pa for that matter. dahil nga natalo ang DLSU, wala na silang chance for a playoff game with UST. at dahil nga dun, tanggal sila sa Final Four. ouch talaga for them. haha. swerte ng UST. pasalamat sila mas mahina ang La Salle ngayon kesa sa kanila. tsk. pag maka-chamba ka nga naman. balita ko sila ata ang may lowest win-loss record na nakapasok sa Final 4? 6-8. well at least record holder sila. ok na un. :))

pang-siyam, nami-miss ko na ang Cheerleading class!!!!! nami-miss ko na yung mga panahong pupunta ko sa Araneta or sa Philsports Arena para manood at mag-cheer. nami-miss ko na yung reserved tickets namin for the Cheerdance Competition! nami-miss ko na yung attendance card ko. nami-miss ko na yung mga kung anu-anong pinamimigay sa labas ng venue na may mga nakasulat na names ng mga schools na maglalaban for that day. hai. gusto ko na uli manood ng live.

ewan ko ba pero malas lang siguro talaga ang DLSU. kasi yung mga shots nila hindi maka-connect sa ring. tumatama man, lagi namang hindi pumapasok. pero sa Ateneo, lalo na kay Rabeh, parang feeling ko may magnet sa gitna ng ring na hinihila yung bola papasok. yun bang magugulat na lang ako na-shoot na pala. ang smooth kasi.

Champ of the Game si Rabeh Al-Hussaini. 26 points. his usual score. lalo na last season! no wonder siya ang MVP.

all in all, masaya ako sa pinakita nila. pinapatunayan lang nila na sila talaga ang karapat-dapat na Champions last season. (hindi ko masabi na ngayong season dahil honestly, FEU ang gusto kong mag-champion. haha. but that's another story. :P)

Maroons collar Bulldogs

The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons hung tough to nip the National University (NU) Bulldogs, 78-76, during Saturday’s University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) at the Araneta Coliseum.

Learning from its 69-77 overtime loss to University of the East in the first round, UP did not give NU a chance to attempt a game-tying triple in the dying seconds.

With UP clinging to a precarious three-point lead, 78-75, Moriah Gingerich fouled NU’s Joseph Hermosisima before he could launch a three-point shot in the final two seconds.

After sinking his first free throw, Hermosisima intentionally missed his second attempt but NU failed to follow-up that could have sent the game into overtime.

“We have learned from our loss to UE. I specifically gave instruction to foul before they (NU Bulldogs) could attempt. I’d rather give up two free throws than a three-point shot in that kind of situation,” UP coach Aboy Castro said.

In that overtime loss, UP watched UE’s Val Acuna sank a game-tying triple at the buzzer sending the game into overtime where the Red Warriors wrested control.

UP trailed NU in the first half but a near bench-clearing melee helped the Fighting Maroons turn their fortunes around.

Migs Maniego, who erupted for 15 points in the first half, was involved in a scuffle with NU’s Joseph Terso at 5:24 mark of the second period. The shoving escalated as Jewel Ponferrada and Jerome Tungcul entered the court to join the melee.

Ponferrada and Tungcul were assessed with disqualifying fouls for leaving the bench while Maniego, Terso and NU Coach Manny Dandan were each slapped with a technical foul.

Without Ponferrada inside the paint for NU, the Fighting Maroons pounded the hapless Bulldogs in the third canto as they took a 78-69 lead going into the payoff period.

The Maroons exploded for 33 points on an eye-popping 82 percent shooting from the field in that game turning third period.

Martin Reyes poured in 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to lead UP to its second win of the season.

Hermosisima saw his career-high 25 points went for naught as NU went down to 2-5 tying UP and Adamson Falcons at the cellar.

The difference between two Universities.

My stay here in UP has been as confusing as a tip to toe, induced feeling, specially when i’m confronting fellow UP students that seem to elaborate the very fact that they’re flawless when it comes to mental processes that require outstanding common sense. A feeling that I have concluded that I really don’t belong. I confront people who have worked there asses out from high school; people who have not failed to attain above average grades and would be serious with every aspect of educational matters. I dont blame them, they’re downright smart asses, that’s why they’re in the University of the Philippines, they’re a bunch of over experienced students who have been on the primary state of intelligence, not to mention the fact that UP students are outrageously cocky. Yes, it’s a given fact. Though exclude me from this matter, I’m not a fully allege UP student, no; I still have a lot to prove before I could join the cliched bandwagon of State U.

My blood still runs in the Taft life, yes, state for the matter of what I express, this is De La Salle University. A University from Manila that has proved its worth in the educational system. From here on you would see the differences between; an organized and well established University, from a University that has been supported by the government, manifesting its corruption throughout the campus. From Palma Hall (AS building), to the statue that upholds a bold representation of what it means to be a jackass; there on would you see students walking while working there fucking eyes out to the vast numbers of readings for a simple exam that could be associated with the prelims of the University of Santo Tomas. Classrooms in the University are hot, as hot as the afternoon delight that you would feel in the Mega rail Transit whose air conditioner is busted for the matter. Yes, life sucks as I presume when it comes to facilities.

In De La Salle University, you would feel comfort and relaxation, not to mention the fact that you could sleep while classes are going on, for this matter, I love this part; feeling no pressure or stress when it comes to learning, we do our part when it comes to studying, we could easily work our way out of reading a 200-paged essay, due to the fact that air cons are working and you could breathe fresh and scented air inside the campus. Students in De La Salle University are cocky and bastards, this is not a negative aspect in which one should uphold; this is an attribute that runs in the campus. We’re creative, fun to be with and we sure arent as devoted as the nerds in the University of the Philippines. We know how to handle and deal with our problems in a well respected manner. We don’t end up on killing each other as the students in the University of the Philippines. We dont have disgusting chairs and a hundred year-old paint that still lies upon the shallow corners of State U. We are cool people who have a judgment that could be dealt with other individuals.

So why am I studying in the University of the Philippines? Simple, I could drive going to school, I’m just 30mins away from home, and to hell am I sure that I should have a bright future ahead of me. The benefits of a UP graduate, hmm, perhaps this is the only thing that upholds a pleasing attribute in the University itself..

A daughter complained to her father about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In one he placed carrots, in the second he placed eggs, and the last he placed ground coffee beans. He let them sit and boil,without saying a word.

The daughter sucked her teeth and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. In about twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them a bowl. Then he ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her he asked. "Darling, what do you see?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. She smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

She humbly asked. "What does it mean Father?" He explained that each of them had faced the same adversity, boiling water, but each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. But after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you," he asked his daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

Or are you like the coffee bean? The bean changes the hot water, the thing that is bringing the pain, to its peak flavor reaches 212 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water gets the hottest, it just tastes better.

If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and make things better around you.

When people talk about you, do your praises to the Lord increase? When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, does your worship elevate to another level?

si Wu Chun naman, since Hana Kimi pa lang eh i like him na. pero ngayon ko lang siya suuuuper na-a-appreciate! pano ba naman, ANG GWAPO NIYA NAMAN KASI DITO DI BA?!? as in!! kung sa Hana Kimi eh gwapo siya as Bryan, lalo na dito as Tyrone! may pagka-mysterious effect pa yung character niya so mas lalong nakakadagdag sa pagka-in lab ko. 1. Why are you applying for the position?

Just like what I said in my formal interview when asked why I chose HR, I would like to have the chance to get to know my fellow ABAMers more. Being a shy little girl, I find it hard to have the initiative to talk to people. I believe that if I become a director, I'd have a reason to communicate with my orgmates. I know that getting this position entails great responsibility, but together with that would be the privilege of being trained by my seniors and proving myself as worth of being a new ABAMer.
2. What can you contribute to the department and the ABAM as a whole given this position?

I know I lack people skills, but that exactly is what I can offer to the HR Department and UP ABAM. I would turn my desire for experience and incapabilities into inspiration to work at my utmost best in everything I do for the organization. With this, I hope to dedicate my time in the activities of ABAM, and make sure that our every event would be fun-filled and worthwhile.
3. What extra twist would you add to this position/event to make it more fun and better?

There are two positions I want to try out: the Director for TransOrn, and Director for Member Involvement and Development.

For the TransOrn, I would like the transitionals to feel that they belong. I want to have games wherein the transitionals could enjoy and at the same time introduce themselves to the members, so we will already have an idea about them. I think the TransOrn should be more about the Transitionals, so most of the activities would involve their participation. Also, more transitional/buddy interaction. I think the first time they meet, there should already be a connection. ;)

I would also want to have a simple souvenir for those who will attend. Something that could make them remember that night when they first entered the ABAM family. It will be personalized, with his/her name and the buddy.

the first time i saw/heard that commercial, alam ko na agad na hindi niya boses yun. kasi naman, ang lalim nung boses. eh yung boses niya sa Pinoy Records at Ripley's eh parang boses ng bata. biruin mo yun, ang laki laking tao, tas ang liit at ang tinis ng boses?! hahaha.

although sa medyo last part nung commercial, medyo kahawig na ng voice niya.... pero kahit na. HINDI PA RIN SIYA YUN.

pero ok lang kahit hindi niya totoong boses ang ginamit. siya pa rin naman yung nakikita sa screen. mahaba-habang exposure din yun.... tuwing pinapakita yung commercial, humihinto talaga ko at pinapanood ko. kahit na parang ilang beses ko nang napapanood. HINDI AKO NAGSASAWANG TIGNAN SIYA....

HAHAHA. ANG GWAPO NAMAN KASI DI BA.

ang swerte nung mga batang nakalaro niya.... HAHAHA. sana ako na lang yung bola. o kaya kahit yung ring lang, ok na rin. :))

Hi it's me again after 3 weeks! Actually I've been a bit lazy lately to exercise my brain cells and articulate various thoughts. Honestly, I can't think of any interesting topic to write about. Ergo, I will do my best to touch on the many questions that I have been receiving through this blog and the FANATXT. Thanks to those who continue to subscribe btw :)

First, the latest MILO commercial. Yes, it is not my voice. I initially did the voice over but because of some internal matters, they had to use a dubber at the last minute. But , I already did the voice over again and I believe it was approved and should be airing with my voice pretty soon.... i hope! Nevertheless, the essence of the commercial doesn't change. Glad you guys liked it!

Next, many have been wondering what I've been up to lately. Well, the usual, training with the National Team, hosting and doing some business on the side. But one thing that's really kept me busy this past month is my involvement in socio-civic activities. Once the PBL Conference starts again this summer, I won't have much of a life outside of basketball again. Going back, there are several causes that I truly wish to advocate. That's why I've been doing my best to reach out to them. Sadly, we cannot accommodate them all.

Recently, Volvo had its Voice of Leadership culmination activity with an elocution contest where I was the host and ambassador. The participants were amazing with the content and delivery of their speeches. But the highlight of the event for me was being able to watch Lea Salonga perform just a few meters from me and meet her for the first time! I was being teased non-stop after the event for appearing so star struck on stage! I guess she's one of the very few local personalities who can truly mesmerize me because I'm a huge fan hers and I love watching musical plays especially those like Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and others where she played major roles.

During Valentines Day, together with my family and friends, we made an effort to experience the life of a construction worker for about 3 hours with the Habitat for Humanity group. Wasn't easy at all! But an eye opener indeed. I hope that more Filipinos can get involved not just in building homes but in building communities and individuals with values as well.

I'm also helping out the Get Caught Reading campaign with their promo materials to hopefully encourage the youth to love reading because I believe that reading (the right materials) is such a powerful weapon in developing an individual as well as nation building! Like what Jose Rizal said himself, "a pen is mightier than the sword..." Coincidentally, I am currently reading a book entitled "Lolo Jose", a very detailed description of the life of our national hero coming straight from the point of view of his very own grand niece, Asuncion Lopez Bantug. The book was given to me but it might be available in some bookstores. Very interesting!

I've also done my rounds in various schools giving short talks and messages about various topics. I've visited, of course, the Ateneo High School, Southridge, Philippine Science High School and Northfield among others. But I think I'll have to put those on hold first as my commitments are starting to pile up again. So, these are the things that's been keeping me pre-occupied lately! Bored? Well, from youth leadership, to perseverance, to education, to Christ, and whatever other topics I've been chattering about, I sure hope that I'm making sense and getting through to them! So do you still want to hear about what's going on with me?? :) haha!

Si Fr. Jboy ang favorite priest namin ng mommy ko. Every Sunday, we make sure na makakaabot kami sa 11 am mass sa UP Chapel (Parish of the Holy Sacrifice). Kelangan maabutan namin ang mass ni Fr. Jboy, especially his Homily.

malayo ang bahay namin sa UP. sa Fairview pa kami nakatira, pero dinadayo pa rin namin ang UP para lang maka-attend ng mass ni Fr. Jboy. kung tutuusin, marami naman kaming pwedeng ibang pagsimbahan na mas malapit. andyan ang St. Peter's Church, andyan ang Good Shepherd, at andyan ang chapel namin sa subdivision. pero mas gusto pa rin talaga namin kay Father. Iba siya eh.

Hindi siya katulad ng ibang mga pari na maraming nakakatulog pag Homily. Hindi siya katulad ng iba na halos binabasa lang ang kanilang mga sasabihin sa Homily. Hindi siya monotonous, hindi siya scripted, hindi siya traditional. Iba siya.

I know it's not right for me to compare him with other priests, since they are all for the service of God naman. But for a common churchgoer like me, mahirap hindi mag-compare. lalo na kung kapansin-pansin naman.

I think that's what we need nowadays eh. Someone who conveys the message in an interesting way. In an interactive way. In a cheerful way. In an effective way. Although i know that it's our responsibility to listen to the Word of God in whatever way there is. Pero di ba mas maganda at mas nakakatulong kung masaya ang paraan ng pagpaparating sayo ng Salita ng Diyos? Mas makaka-relate ka. Mas tatatak sa isip at puso mo.

At yun ang sa tingin ko ay nagagawa ni Fr. Jboy. Masaya siya mag-mass. Ang mga Homily niya, hindi lang panandalian. Hindi yung papasok sa isang tenga, lalabas sa kabila. Maaalala mo talaga. Maaaliw ka pa habang nakikinig. Hindi ka makakatulog at ma-e-engganyo ka pang mag-participate. Pag may itatanong siya, sasagot ka. Pag pinag-raise ng hand, itataas mo din ang kamay mo. He has his own way of making things interesting.

Ang tawag ni Mommy kay Fr. Jboy, "Fr. Bitoy". I don't know why. Sabi niya, kamukha daw kasi ni Fr. Jboy si Michael V. But I can't see it. Pero siguro nga magkahawig sila.... at pareho rin silang masayahin at witty. No wonder marami rin ang may favorite sa kanya.

In fact, siya pa ang napiling mag-preside sa Simbang Gabi noon sa PBB Celebrity Edition 2. Siya rin ang nagkasal kay Ruben at sa asawa niya. May segment din siya pag umaga sa ABS-CBN na Kape't Pandesal. o di ba, sosyal si Fr. Jboy..

basta for me, siya ang pinaka-cool na pari. I've seen him during UAAP games ng Men's Basketball. Todo cheer siya for UP Fighting Maroons! And he's musically inclined din. galing talaga. did you know na siya ang nag-compose ng "Panunumpa"? yung kanta ni Carol Banawa. ang cool, di ba. kung tama ang pagkakaalam ko, sinulat niya ata yun para sa mga magpapari. it's their panunumpa to God.

Pero lately, actually medyo matagal-tagal na rin, napansin namin ng Mommy ko na hindi na namin nakikita si Fr. Jboy. Hindi na siya ang nag-ma-mass pag 11 am. Medyo matagal din kasi kaming hindi nakapag-simba sa UP due to some conflict of scheds. Sa iba na kami nakapagsimba. So pagbalik namin, ayun, namiss namin si Fr. Jboy. Not knowing na hindi na pala namin siya maaabutan.

I tried to search for some answers to my questions. Asan na si Fr. Jboy? Bakit wala na siya dito? Bat hindi na siya ang nag-ma-mass? Bat ni anino niya, hindi na namin makita? I tried to go to his multiply site. and I found out na wala na nga siya sa UP.

"not anymore. Am out of UP. My mass is now on Sundays, 6PM, Church of the Gesu, Ateneo de Manila. See you."

Ayon sa kanya, ayaw daw ng parish priest sa kanya? bakit kaya? eh ako naman ayoko sa parish priest. seriously. even my Mom. sorry pero mas gusto ko talaga si Fr. Jboy eh.

If ever it's true, nakakalungkot naman na kelangan mahaluan ng personal (or maybe not) motives ang pagka-lipat ni Fr. Jboy. Marami ang nalungkot, marami ang nanghinayang, marami ang nakaka-miss sa kanya. at isa na ko dun. kami ng mommy ko.

Ang hirap kayang dumayo pa ng Ateneo tas gabi pa. although siguro kahit once or twice a month, sabihin ko kila mommy na dun kami mag-mass. para makita na uli namin si Fr. Jboy.
