The Red Prince is an anonymous AI-artist behind the a dark-fantasy project centered on the aftermath of power: fallen kingdoms, dethroned rulers, ruined fortresses, cursed knights, and candlelit throne rooms. Its images draw on Renaissance-style chiaroscuro, deep burgundy-and-obsidian palettes, gothic architecture, and the cinematic atmosphere of a graphic novel.

The project’s defining idea is not victory, but what remains after it: an empty throne, a monarch stripped of authority, a castle beginning to collapse, armor without a hero, or a kingdom that has outlived its own mythology. Uncrowned Reigns calls this “the dramatic cinematic space between reign and ruin.”

Eric Hallquist, a digital concept artist and illustrator building an original dark-fantasy universe through character designs, haunted forests, monumental ruins, strange guardians, and fragments of a broken world.

Hallquist’s work favors dense forests, fog, tangled organic forms, deep shadows, washed-out morning light, and creatures or structures that blur the line between the natural and supernatural. The mood is dark, but not simply violent or grotesque. It is contemplative: landscapes hold secrets, silence feels active, and beauty is inseparable from unease.

His work is strongest when it treats environment as a character. A forest is not background scenery; it is a living force that can shelter, watch, obscure, or threaten. That approach is central to dark fantasy, where place often carries as much narrative weight as the hero, monster, or quest.

Liam Pannier, a French freelance CG artist, 3D motion designer, and art director based in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. He creates surreal, space-centered imagery that combines astronauts, luminous planets, zero-gravity scenes, dramatic scale, and quiet emotional storytelling.

Pannier’s signature images often place a lone astronaut in an impossible situation: floating above a surreal planet, drifting through a room that has opened into space, standing beneath an enormous celestial object, or suspended in a landscape where gravity no longer follows ordinary rules. The cosmos is not just a science-fiction setting in his work; it becomes a visual language for solitude, wonder, pressure, escape, and perspective.

His scenes feel cinematic because they rely on a clear emotional contrast: the human figure is tiny and vulnerable, while the surrounding environment is immense, polished, colorful, and unknowable. Yet there is often playfulness in the imagery too. Bright palettes and strange object combinations keep the work from becoming purely bleak, making each composition feel like a dream that is equal parts beautiful and disorienting.

Thomas Cian, a Milan-born Italian illustrator and fine artist known for remarkably intimate charcoal and graphite portraits. A graduate of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, he treats drawing not as a preliminary step toward another medium, but as a complete language for observation, memory, and emotional presence.

Cian’s subjects are often friends, family, acquaintances, or anonymous figures, rendered with a patience that makes each face feel quietly familiar. His graphite sketchbooks — including a long-running series of friends’ portraits — gained wide attention for their realism and sensitivity.

But his work is more than photographic likeness. Charcoal smears, erased edges, dense shadows, scratches, and patches of untouched paper become part of the subject’s emotional atmosphere. A portrait may be highly detailed around the eyes and then dissolve into darkness or loose marks, suggesting that no person can ever be fully captured.

Long before tattoos became a language of fashion, fandom and self-invention, they were often viewed with suspicion.

These remarkable photographs come from a special 1934 issue of *Crocodile*, a bi-monthly journal published by the medical interns of Lyon’s civil hospitals. Its subject was the “physiognomy” of tattooing in France: not simply the designs themselves, but the people who wore them.

h/t: flashbak

The images show sailors, prisoners, sex workers, pimps and other people pushed to the margins of respectable society. Faces, torsos and backs become pages of a rough, private archive. There are names, symbols, religious images, erotic drawings, declarations of love, bitter jokes and marks that seem to carry entire lives within them.

Behind this clinical fascination stood Alexandre Lacassagne, a physician, criminologist and prison doctor whose collection of tattooed skin and related material became one of the most unsettling archives of its era. Lacassagne called tattoos “speaking scars,” believing that they might reveal something hidden about the person beneath them.

That idea now feels deeply uncomfortable. The people in these photographs were observed, classified and turned into evidence by institutions that rarely offered them dignity or a voice of their own. Yet the tattoos resist that cold gaze.

Nearly a century later, they still feel startlingly intimate. A crude inscription, a naval emblem, a face inked onto a chest — each image is a fragment of self-expression made permanent at a time when society preferred to see its wearers only as outsiders.

These photographs are not just a record of 1930s tattoo culture. They are portraits of people who left part of their story on their skin, whether anyone around them was prepared to listen or not.

At the National Museum of Funeral History, one exhibit carries a story far more human than its unsettling appearance first suggests: a large wooden casket built for three people.

h/t: vintag.es

It was commissioned in the mid-1930s by a young couple after the death of their infant daughter. Devastated by the loss, they believed they could not imagine a life without her. In the darkest period of their grief, they made plans to die together and asked a local funeral home to create a custom coffin wide enough for both parents, with a space between them for their child.

The casket was unlike anything the funeral home had made before. Its unusual size and interior arrangement required months of work. But during that time, something changed.

The first shock of bereavement slowly gave way to the passage of ordinary days. The couple abandoned their plan, moved west toward California, and left the finished casket behind in the funeral home’s storage.

Years later, in the 1950s, the woman wrote back. Her husband had died of natural causes, and she asked whether she could receive a refund for the coffin they had paid for decades earlier. By then, the funeral home had changed hands twice, and its new director could find no records that would allow him to reimburse her. He asked her to arrange for the casket to be collected.

She never replied.

The casket remained in storage for years before eventually being donated to the National Museum of Funeral History. Today, it is believed to be the only known three-person casket of its kind.

It is easy to see it as a morbid curiosity. But its real meaning lies elsewhere. It is a reminder that grief can make the future seem impossible — and that even when nothing appears capable of changing, time sometimes does.

Steven Haulenbeek, an American artist and industrial designer who turns unpredictable natural processes into collectible furniture, lighting, and sculptural objects. His best-known works use carved ice and molten bronze, or reclaimed foundry sand and resin, so that weather, gravity, heat, texture, and chance become co-authors of the final design.

Haulenbeek’s signature Ice-Cast Bronze process began in 2011. He carves or shapes blocks of ice, pours molten wax into their cavities or lets it run freely across frozen surfaces, and uses the resulting wax forms in a lost-wax bronze-casting process. The ice melts away, but its ridges, bubbles, cracks, and irregularities remain translated into bronze.

The method turns something temporary into something enduring. An ice formation that would normally disappear in hours becomes the textured surface of a mirror, side table, lighting piece, vessel, or sculpture. Because the ice never behaves exactly the same way twice, each piece carries a distinct record of the moment and material conditions that produced it.

Tye Martinez, a multidisciplinary artist and concept artist whose images merge photography, Photoshop, horror, science fiction, and personal emotion. His practice does not document reality so much as bend it into unsettling visual metaphors: empty houses, impossible shadows, hovering figures, spider-like bodies, suburban dread, and places where something is clearly wrong but never fully revealed.

Martinez’s work is rooted in the connection between emotion and different art forms — photography, drawing, painting, video, music, film, and fiction. He uses horror not simply to shock, but to make depression, anxiety, isolation, grief, and alienation visible without treating them as taboo. His stated goal is to challenge the idea that feeling different is somehow abnormal.

The result is horror with a personal charge. A dark hallway or abandoned-looking home becomes a psychological space; a strange figure becomes an embodiment of an unspoken thought.

Alan De Cecco, an Italian artist based in London who has been writing the name SODA since 1993. Emerging from graffiti, he has developed a precise visual language of deconstructed letters, floating geometry, and monochrome trompe-l’œil — work that makes flat walls appear to open into shifting architectural space.

SODA starts from the foundational act of graffiti writing: putting a name on a wall. But in his work, the letters of S-O-D-A are fragmented, stretched, layered, and stripped back until they sit at the boundary between language and abstraction. A viewer may recognize a letter, then lose it inside a field of black, white, gray, shadow, and sharp-edged planes.

This is not lettering as decoration. It is lettering as structure. By deconstructing his tag into intersecting geometric components, SODA turns a signature into an architectural system — one that can expand from a sketch or canvas to an entire concrete facade.

404.zero is an audiovisual art duo formed by Kristina Karpysheva and Aleksandr Letsius. Since 2016, they have created generative performances, immersive light installations, modular electronic music, and TouchDesigner tools that treat sound, image, code, and physical space as one living system.

404.zero does not use visuals as a backdrop for music. Their performances make sound and image develop together in real time: modular synth signals, custom-built instruments, algorithmic motion, shifting light, and generative graphics respond as parts of the same audiovisual organism. Their work is deliberately “footage- and sample-free,” meaning the visuals emerge from code and live systems rather than pre-rendered clips.

The results are dense, painterly, and disorienting. Abstract forms appear to breathe, fracture, liquefy, or gather into vast dark environments, while analogue and modular sound gives the imagery physical weight. The duo’s work occupies a space between concert, ritual, experiment, installation, and digital sculpture.

Henry Wong is a London-based visual-development artist, concept artist, and illustrator whose work brings warmth, graphic clarity, and cinematic atmosphere to animation and games. His credits include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Blue Eye Samurai, City of Ghosts, X-Men ’97, KPop Demon Hunters, and projects for Netflix, Sony, Paramount, Marvel, Aardman, Titmouse, and Thatgamecompany.

Wong’s strength lies in making a setting feel emotionally legible before a character speaks. His environments can be dense city streets, sunlit interiors, crowded markets, magical ruins, quiet waterfronts, or impossible fantasy spaces, but they are always designed around story: where attention should go, what a character might feel there, and what the audience needs to understand at a glance.

The work has a particular ability to make spectacle feel intimate. A large urban panorama may still include a small domestic detail; a dramatic landscape can carry the memory of an ordinary day. That balance of scale and tenderness helps explain why his images feel less like static production art and more like moments from a lived-in film.

Trained in traditional drawing at École Émile Cohl, he works across both traditional and digital painting, using character design as a form of visual storytelling.

Peyravernay is closely associated with the painterly visual world of Arkane’s Dishonored series, for which he created much of the character concept art, including the game’s in-world Sokolov paintings. He also contributed to Prey, The Wolf Among Us, Diablo IV, and Dune: Awakening.

His Dune: Awakening research began in 2020, before Denis Villeneuve’s Dune film had been released. Funcom and Legendary asked for an art direction separate from the upcoming film, and Peyravernay focused particularly on distinguishing characters and social castes within the world of Arrakis. His sketches and concepts show how he approaches sci-fi: sand, weathering, fabrics, armor, masks, silhouette, and body language all do the work of storytelling before any dialogue begins.

His work builds immense imagined worlds — layered megacities, industrial transit systems, monumental spacecraft, and distant structures — where cinematic scale is balanced by mood, texture, and a sense of life continuing beyond the frame. Deneuve’s art is driven by architecture: impossible cityscapes extend upward and outward, towers fuse with infrastructure, and vast mechanical structures appear to have developed over centuries. Yet the images are not simply about size. Trains, vehicles, small lights, weathered surfaces, smoke, and glimpses of everyday movement make the environments feel inhabited — less like speculative designs and more like places with their own history.

CREACTION Studio is an independent Italian creative studio that designs visual systems for live shows, immersive spaces, brand experiences, and screens. Rather than treating animation, lighting, stage architecture, sound, and CGI as separate departments, it builds them as one coordinated environment — a “visual operating system” for performance and perception.

CREACTION Studio describes its work as “visual worlds, built as systems.”
That phrase captures its approach: a concert visual, installation, or branded experience is not simply an image played on an LED wall. It is a complete choreography of screens, staging, motion, timing, lighting, effects, and audience viewpoint.

The studio follows a project from early research and creative direction through final delivery, working across live shows, artistic installations, brand content, and creative technology. Its services include show design, show-ready screen content, live operation, CGI environments, motion design, video mapping, real-time workflows, immersive experiences, and digital scenography.

Guillem H. Pongiluppi, a Barcelona-based freelance concept artist, digital illustrator, and matte painter specializing in historical reconstruction, virtual archaeology, fantasy, and science fiction.

Pongiluppi’s artwork is grounded in real visual history. His interest in historical research and virtual archaeology informs fictional cities, ruins, spacecraft, battlefields, and landscapes, giving even his most far-future scenes the sense that they were built by a culture with an actual past. His images often combine the physical weight of ancient architecture with dystopian technology, creating worlds that feel both unfamiliar and historically plausible.

That foundation is central to his concept-art philosophy: start with recognizable evidence — materials, structures, weather, artifacts, military equipment, religious forms, or geography — then push it into speculation. Rather than presenting fantasy as empty spectacle, he makes it feel excavated from a past that never existed.

Isa Hanssen, a Filipino-Mexican-American storyboard artist, comic creator, indie game developer, illustrator, and occasional writer. Her practice blends weird regional folktales, magical-girl energy, cinematic storyboards, introspective comics, and emotionally direct character work.

Hanssen’s visual universe is built around the kinds of stories that make everyday life feel porous: local legends, strange dreams, growing pains, loneliness, tenderness, and girls who meet the impossible with courage. Her personal description is wonderfully concise: a love for “weird local folktales, and magic girls who fight.”

That mix gives her work a specific emotional tone. The drawings can be bright and playful, but they are rarely shallow. Beneath the humor, graphic color, and kinetic staging is an interest in fear, alienation, belief, responsibility, and the private intensity of being young. Her comics include a personal series about unusual dreams, introspection, and the loneliness of spending too much time inside one’s own head.

Télio Péron is a French digital artist specializing in 3D illustration and concept art. His work brings together nature, supernatural folklore, architecture, and industrial machinery, using cinematic lighting and carefully built worlds to make each scene feel like a moment from a larger, hidden story.

Arttelio’s scenes often begin with familiar natural elements — forests, moss, roots, rocks, snow, fog, water, and weathered wood — then introduce something slightly impossible: a glowing artifact, an abandoned structure, a strange machine, a giant object, or a creature from folklore. The result is fantasy grounded in believable material detail rather than pure spectacle.

That connection to physical reality is visible in his 3D scans as well. For example, he has made a high-resolution scan of a chainsaw-cut tree base found in the forest of Méridon, France, complete with color and normal-map data. Such studies give his environments a tactile base: bark, soil, stone, moss, and worn surfaces feel observed, not merely invented.

Hollowed Graphix is a dark visual-design artist creating 3D artwork, graphic design, album visuals, lyric videos, and commissioned branding for heavy music. The work is engineered for the visual language of metal, deathcore, and alternative music: dense black-and-white contrast, distorted anatomy, surreal objects, industrial textures, sharp typography, and a sense that the image is breaking apart in real time.

The visual identity goes beyond static cover art. Hollowed Graphix combines Blender-based 3D construction, compositing, typographic treatment, graphic abstraction, and video editing to create visuals that can exist across a single release, a merch design, a social post, and a lyric video.

Recent work includes a fast concept called XBOX_Y — The Modular Console, created in Blender and Photoshop in roughly two hours. It shows the practice’s design range: even a product concept is filtered through a high-contrast, futuristic, slightly hostile aesthetic rather than standard commercial-product rendering.

Fenske’s work has the clarity and storytelling discipline of game concept art, but his personal paintings often begin with familiar, everyday places: a neighborhood street, a dense city block, a shoreline, a roadside building, or a quiet interior. His focus is less on reproducing every physical detail than on distilling a location’s light, color, atmosphere, and visual rhythm.

A recent digital sketch, for example, began from a random Street View location found through MapCrunch. Fenske treated the surprise city scene as an exercise in reducing dense visual information into a quick, legible painting — an approach close to digital plein-air work, where observation matters more than photographic precision.

Daniel Reid aka Papa.png is a Montreal-based senior concept artist, experimental digital painter, and film director. His work moves between cinematic keyframes, surreal image-making, character design, visual development, and personal paintings drawn from dreams and subconscious associations.

Reid’s images often begin with an emotional or intuitive impulse rather than a fixed narrative brief. He describes a process that favors subconscious storytelling, symbolic continuity, and emotional truth over strict realism — what he teaches as “dream logic.” Instead of using digital tools only to make polished concept art, he uses them to discover images through chance, distortion, destruction, and revision.

This makes the work feel cinematic without becoming conventional. His scenes can suggest the atmosphere of a film frame — strange environments, isolated characters, unreal light, ominous silhouettes, or fragments of a larger world — yet they resist the need to explain exactly what has happened. The viewer is left with the feeling first, and the story arrives later, if at all.

Jesperish is a Dutch visionary digital artist who uses architecture, abstract symbols, and immersive spatial compositions to explore identity, anxiety, spiritual searching, and the desire for balance. His work creates what he calls “energetic environments”: imagined spaces that invite reflection, inner movement, and a different way of sensing oneself.

Jesperish does not use architecture merely as a backdrop. Vast halls, tunnels, monuments, gateways, chambers, and geometric voids become emotional structures — visual equivalents of doubt, transformation, calm, pressure, or revelation. In the artist’s own framing, architectural forms and the spaces people inhabit shape their inner landscapes, just as inner life changes how a person experiences the world around them.

The images often feel ancient and futuristic at once: clean digital surfaces collide with monumental, brutalist mass; an intricate symbol glows inside an otherwise shadowed space; a tiny human figure gives scale to a world that feels too large to control. That tension between clarity and darkness makes the work feel meditative rather than merely dystopian.

David Spriggs, a British-born, Canadian artist who creates sculptural paintings from layers of transparent material. Instead of placing color on a flat canvas, he suspends it in space, building images that seem to appear, dissolve, and change as the viewer moves around them.

Spriggs pioneered his signature technique in 1999: he paints or prints separate transparent sheets and arranges them in sequence so that, from certain viewpoints, they become a single volumetric image. The result sits between painting, sculpture, installation, and optical illusion. A form may look solid from one angle, but fragment into dozens of floating marks from another.

This is why his work cannot be experienced fully in a photograph. Viewing it involves movement: overlapping pigments align and separate, density shifts, and transparent planes create a continually changing relationship between image, light, physical space, and the viewer’s own body.

Sebas Velasco, a Spanish painter and muralist whose expressive oil paintings turn the ordinary streets, apartment blocks, aging cars, and anonymous residents of the Balkans into cinematic studies of memory, place, and time. Born in Burgos in 1988, he began in graffiti and later developed a practice spanning studio painting, illustration, and murals.

For more than a decade, Velasco has traveled, observed, photographed, and painted across the Balkans and the former Yugoslavia, particularly in Sarajevo and Belgrade. He is drawn to places where everyday life sits visibly alongside layers of collective history: modernist housing towers, fading signs, parking lots, shopfronts, concrete passages, and streets that have outlived the political systems that produced them.

His 2025 exhibition, The Morning Will Change Everything, was his first solo museum exhibition. Presented at the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, it gathered 12 paintings shaped by his long relationship with the region and its cultures, languages, music, cinema, architecture, and daily life. The title came from a song by Sarajevo band Indexi.

Velasco’s work is realist in technique but dreamlike in feeling. He paints the glow of street lamps, headlights, shop windows, and distant apartment lights against rain, fog, wet asphalt, raw concrete, and deep night shadows. A lone person or worn vehicle becomes an emotional anchor in a larger urban scene, making his paintings feel at once documentary and fictional.
