Nigerian actress, Rita Dominic recently clinched a mouth wateringf deal with mobile phone giant, Nokia. The deal will see the light skinned, nollywood superstar become the face of the sleek Nokia N97 phone across the African continent.T

The intriguing aspect is the amount of greens reported to have come along with the contract- $1million (and no, you ain't dreaming). It can be recalled that a few months back, telecommunications giant, Globacom Nigeria cigned on Rita Dominicand a few other nollywood celebrities as ambassadors for the brand.

Indeed it is a season of good tidings for the Nigerian movie industry.

Congratulations Rita...(we no go mind small oh...lol)

KIMON VIDEO - YAY! SESAN DIRECTS A DECENT VIDEO

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 18 Oct 2009 21:22:00 +0000

Just when i was about to lump Mo Hits in the Styl=plus category, you know, wonderful songs and kak videos, the widely panned (well most people I've met panned his initial offerings) Sesan (with no last name) comes up with half a decent video for the up tempo D'banj song - Kimon.

The video is no stretch of the imagination- D'banj, mic, speakers, fine, fair girl molesting D'banj in the way every man should be molested (hehehe!). Costumes are great, video is in high quality, shot well, well lit and that's about it. The video is basic enough that he couldn't possibly screw it up like his previous offereings. As i know from firsthand knowledge that directing a video isn't like peeing (show up, aim and shoot), therefore simple or not, he makes sure the video is seamless albeit rudimentary at best (Sesan would argue otherwise).

The video is simple enough and Sesan gets plenty of help from the stunning Bianca Simmone, a Jamaica born, US international model and creative artist (She is the babe in Jay Sean's 'down' and Birdman n Lil Wayne's 'always strapped') who has an interesting chemistry with D'banj. It was nice trying to see her say the 'Wa Gba' and i must add that they looked comfortable with one another therefore, we couldn't really see Sesan's imprint.

I like most warm blooded Nigerian males was too transfixed on Miss Bianca, even to the detriment of the Kokomaster (as there were time i forgot he was in the video)

All in all, a very good video, but whilst i did a jig and screamed 'YAY!', cause Sesan finally came through, turns out it was just a one off. He then directed Wande Coal's 'U Bad'....and the story continues.

We reward the effort with a 6.57....

Agree with us?

Adios!

WANDE COAL - YOU BAD

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 18 Oct 2009 21:20:00 +0000

The argument is that there are some videos that a bad video cannot ruin - iconic and well known songs that despite the short comings of the video director, the popularity of the song will trump whatever mistakes abound in the video. This year however, the theory has been disproved so many times (Hi 9ice!). The latest culprit of the unbelievably good song turned bad video is Wande Coal's 'U bad' featuring D'banj.

Directed by Sesan (who else?), the video was shot on location at Oniru beach. The video has a refreshing change of scenery, being that it was shot outdoors and at a real location, as opposed to the green screen, effect laden offerings that are shot on location in other countries and fill up our screen nowadays.

The video in itself is not abysmally bad, it just underwhelms terribly. Whilst the song is rife with frentic energy and all over the place attitude that just forces you to get up and dance, the video turns it into a mellow RnB song. As my brother said, 'it was like they slowed down the song for the video'. None of the energy from one of the best songs on the album translated to the video.

Yes, there were women (both 'orobo' n 'lepa'), yes, there was alcohol and yes, there was opulence (which has now become a trademark of the Mo-hit crew). It felt tedious and forced, totally unlike the song. Not that people in the video cared, they obviously had fun and wanted more and i guess that should be enough, but it isn't for such an exciting song.

E411 rates this a 5.5.....got a better rating?

Adios!

PAUL PLAY - DELICIOUS

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 18 Oct 2009 21:19:00 +0000

I figure with a title like this, the bad puns and all will be out about what a sweet video (hehehe!) this is. In all fairness, the video does not stand out as one of the best videos i have seen this year, nor in a while. A nice video replete with bright colours, a properly lit set with appropriate colours that blend, nothing brash or outlandish, just a (sorry i can't help myself) sweet video.

The video is simple enough and to the point - beautiful girl and ice-cream make for a potentially distracting day at the ice cream shop. Paul play as the protagonist, goes into a shop for a meeting or an engagement and gets distracted by a girl (who by the look of things is going to spend hours in the toilet after the shoot cause i believe the director was hell bent on loading her with as much sugar as possible) who can't seem to make up her mind on if to ingest her confectioneries or just play (i did it again) with them to get Paul's attention. it works though, as Paul Play ends up coming over and after a few treats, boy gets girl.

While the plot is thin, the video quality is high. In terms of props, location and costuming (the nerd look does Paul play no favours, i must add), the director and the crew get top marks. The characters, Paul Play and his friend, the leading lady and the white guy in the background (just incase we forgot the video was from out of town) all look very good. It is classy, well shot and deserves all the accolades it gets.

Pity the song is pretty average though.

We level with a 6.77

how about you?

Adios.

MIKE STANDS TALL AS PROJECT FAME N FORTUNE COMES TO AN END

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 01 Oct 2009 10:28:00 +0000

A very long week it was as contestants and viewers alike anticipated the grand finale of Project Fame West Africa season 2. Finally, the d-day arrived and the venue witnessed a massive turn out of fans that started arriving as early as 3hours before the show.

The show began and audience and viewers were treated to a night of good music. The final 5 contestants – Krimi, Madonna, Tomiwa, Mike and Nicholas, performed songs that were demanded by show’s faithfuls, displaying a high level of maturity with their performances. There were also performances from season one winner, Iyanya and mo-hits wonder kid, Wande Coal.

Indeed, it was an exciting night.

The time we all patiently waited for arrived and the show that kicked off with 15 contestants – Mike, Nicholas, Krimi, Tomiwa, Madonna, Zoe, David, Deniece, Desmond, Savannah, Damilola, Jennifer, Anis, Tari and Sammeeta was about to come to an end.

The 5 contestants were called to take center stage and the hosts announced their positions in ascending order. Madonna emerged fifth, with Krimi and Tomiwa emerging fourth and third respectively, leaving us Nicholas and Mike to vie for 1^st and 2^nd place.

The envelope bearing the name of the winner was opened, MIKE was announced winner and the resulting celebration was overwhelming. The crowd invaded the stage and celebrated with a very jubilant and grateful Mike who went home with N2.5 million cash prize and a Toyota rav4 jeep.

Congrats MIKE ANYAZODO.

ALL HAIL THE PRINCE – ICE PRINCE WINS HENNESSY ARTISTRY

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 01 Oct 2009 10:20:00 +0000

The Grand Finale of the HENNESSY ARTISTRY's urban music competition took place on Friday, 25^thSeptember, 2009. After having to wait a couple hours, the show finally got off to a superb start with the announcement that a lucky guest had won a ticket to attend the New York episode of the Hennessy Artistry competition being headlined by Common and The Roots

The host of the night Wale ‘Dizzy’ Akinjogbin wasted no further time as he introduced the persons with the toughest job of the night, the judges. They were: rap artiste, Naeto C, On Air Personality/ Producer, Kemmi Adetiba and Andre of Nigezie. Their job for the night was to eliminate one of the final three contestants and leave the rest up to the votes from the audience.

As soon as BEZ hit the stage with his guitar, it became more obvious that choosing a winner was going to be one rigorous task. He got the crowd singing with him and interwove the story of how his musical trip began with his performance. Believe me, this dude is a superb talent.

In one word Mo’cheddah’s performance was effervescent! It was so hard to believe she is 18 as her stage craft is far beyond her years in the industry. However, if I were to go into details about her dance moves, we would never get through with this review. Superlative!

Chocolate city’s Ice Prince was last to hit the stage and he put up a scintillating performance. He definitely combined the swagger and talent. Great one!

At the end of the performances, the judges deliberated and the crowd enjoyed performances from previously eliminated contestants, Jimmy Flames and Blaise.

The jury finally came in with the verdict and it was sad to see Bez go (I was actually one of those that started the booing), leaving us to cast our votes between Mo’cheddah and Ice Prince.

While voting went on, MI stormed the stage (and that I mean literally). Now this was my second MI performance in two days and I still couldn’t get enough of him. ‘Top notch’ is all I can say.

Timi Dakolo performed 2 singles from his forthcoming album – Heaven Please featuring MI and I Love You featuring Jesse Jagz. Most people in the crowd had not even heard ‘Heaven Please’ but they still found a way to sing along.

The results from the votes finally came in and with the whole place bubbly with a million bubbles; ICE PRINCE was named winner of Hennessy Artistry 2009. He celebrated his win with his C-city family.

Congrats to ICE PRINCE and all the other contestants.

Pictures for you....

ARTHUR GUINESS DAY

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 01 Oct 2009 10:20:00 +0000

250 years ago, he invented greatness. 250 years on and there is still a drop of greatness in every one. If you are still wondering what I am talking about, then it is obvious you missed out on what was supposed to be the greatest concert of the year. I am talking about the celebration of a great man and a great brand. I am talking about the September 24, ARTHUR GUINESS day celebration.

It all went down at the OCEANVIEW GARDEN in V/I and after a couple of interviews with some of the attendees, it was obvious different people felt differently about the concert.

The show was billed to kick off by 5pm but did not get started until some minutes past 7pm (typical naija time mentality). However, that was soon forgotten when BASKETMOUTH opened the floor with his rib cracking style before introducing Naija's premier DJ, JIMMY JATT. JIMMY wasted no time as he got the crowd jumping to a nice mix of foreign and homebase club mix.

Up next was "THE IMMACULATE MIC INSPECTOR" and true to the title, M.I gave the mic a thorough beat down alongside his loopy family, JESSE JAGZ, ansd ICEPRINCE. There was also the surprise introduction of GENERAL PYPE who sparked up new energy in the crowd. All in all, M.I's performance was the highlight of the night (quote that anwhere).

THE IBIAM FAMILY - FAMILY ON TOP

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 01 Oct 2009 10:19:00 +0000

Everyone has been quick to hail this as the best thing since the I-Pod, and they should. It is well shot, well lit, fantastic props and a realistic feel to the whole video which is a throwback to 1950’s and 60’s gangsters. Replete with tommy-guns and an old school steam train. Empire Music pulls out all the stops to make this grandiose spectacle which also features a plane work. It is an eye-popping and overwhelming video and this is what disconnects me from the video and it is unfortunate as I am a huge Banky W fan and Strong Thing is one of my best songs ever!

I know I must stand alone in the opinion that I am not a big fan of the video because for all its strengths, the video alienates and sacrifices the intimacy the song so accurately pictures, as the song is consumed by the ‘over-the-topness’ of the video. I cannot seem to connect the song and the video and I’m left scratching my head as to why they decided to go in this direction with the video as intimacy can be portrayed as well as making it as grandiose as possible. Seems like they just decided to make a ‘let’s show them we are bad’ video and all in all I just found the whole ordeal tedious and labored plus the dance scene at the end was a bit awkward.

But my reservations aside it is a good video but it was shot for the wrong song and I have no doubt that Banky is going to find success with both ‘The W Experience’, future videos and future endeavours.

J MARTINS - OYOYO

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 01 Oct 2009 10:15:00 +0000

J MARTINS - OYOYO from Entertainment411 on Vimeo.

Oyoyo, a slang or accompaniment children sing to welcome someone back after a long hiatus. This is the title of J Martins’ new single, Oyoyo, or should I say true story part 2. The beat sounds the same from that hit song featuring P-Square and Timaya, like a rehash of the same song. Either he got too lazy to creatively task himself to make an original single or he just was scared to break the formula that made him a household name. Hence giving birth to this very lazy and formulaic and ultimately lukewarm song. Which is more or less the same song as ‘Good or Bad’ just at a slightly slower tempo, with a few tone changes and without the superstar accompaniment of P-Square or Timaya.

Aimed at that section of the Nigerian market that is unconcerned with quality music but just need a few minutes of escapism to dance and forget whatever problems they have, it is sure to go down well with kids by virtue of the simple and memorable hook and the laid back instrumental but I doubt the staying power of this song in the general consciousness of people.

The video which features cameos from celebrities like Ill Bliss, RITA from Koko Mansion(lwkmd), KC Presh, Steel, Bracket, Suspect, Obi-Won etc. The video bears a striking resemblance to “good or bad’. Same crop of celebrities clowning around in an apparent homage to the feel good nature of the song as was in the case with ‘good or bad’. same camera angle etc. but all in all a simple yet effective video.

This is our honest opinion. We rate the effort with a 5.5.

Have your say people…
