This month in Geneva, Lamborghini unveiled its latest ground fighter jet prototype, the $3.9 million Lamborghini Veneno.

This 750-horsepower beast is a one-off model made to coincide with the company’s 50th anniversary. Its multi-million-dollar price tag makes it one of the most expensive cars ever made, putting it in the same echelon as the $2.4 million Bugatti Veyron and the $1 million McLaren F1.

Veneno has a V12 engine and seven-speed “automated manual” transmission with permanent all-wheel drive and five (5!) drive modes. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 220 mph. It weighs just under 3,200 pounds, which is relatively light for a car of its power.

Veneno’s chassis is based on that of the $400,000 Aventador, but the rest of the car is unique in order to maximize extreme downforce and aerodynamism. Its rear wing is adjustable; the alloy wheels are rimmed with a carbon-fiber ring that works like a turbine to deliver additional cooling air to the carbon-ceramic brakes. Most of the car consists of carbon fiber and carbon skin composites.

As with all Lamborghinis, the name “Veneno” comes from a Spanish fighting bull. (This one was famous in the early 1900s for his fleet feet and his causing the death in Andalusia of the famous torero José Sánchez Rodríguez.) And as with all recently new Lamborghinis, this latest one is the fastest, most powerful model available.

Three of them will be made—all in grey metallic–and yes, three wealthy people have already called dibs.
