But Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic defeated Maria Sharapova for title. Sharapova was sanguine in defeat; just getting to the final was already a good effort for her. Here are some of the action photos of Sharapoa during the matches at Wimbledon.

Get free invite for Google Music Cloud beta

2011-05-28T08:16:00.000-07:00

Google’s Music service, cloud based, has finally launched and will be available to US users slowly. It’s still in beta and you won’t be able to purchase any music yet. It should rollout to rest of the world very slow.

Google Music, currently allows for the storage of 20,000 songs in the cloud for streaming to any computer or Android device – all for free while the service is in beta. You use Google’s Music Manager on your desktop to add your songs to the service. It adds play counts and ratings as well. It’s a "full featured music manager", so you can search and do all the other things you could in iTunes and Windows Media Player. Some features of Google Music service :

Instant Mix creates playlists automatically based on any by analyzing your music library and matching songs together in a quick mix.

Search is as smooth as any you’ve ever seen by Google.

Other functions include automatically caches music on your phone, and you can select albums, artists and playlists to pin (or download to your phone) for offline listening.

The sooner you put in your request, the sooner you’ll get your invitation.

Would You Like to Try Android Apps Before Buying?

Would You Like to Try Android Apps Before Buying?: "

Google’s online Android Market is huge with more than 200,000 apps for your Android mobile phone. A lot of these Android Apps are available as free downloads while the paid apps can cost anywhere between 99¢ and $200.

Amazon runs a parallel online store for Android Apps and one good thing about Amazon’s store is that it lets you test and play around with certain apps before you actually buy them. Here is a complete list of Android Apps that you can “try before buying” but unfortunately, the feature is only available to Android users located in the United States.

Android Apps – Try before your Buy

Say you have found an interesting app in Google’s Android Market that you are quite willing to buy but as the app price is a bit on the expensive side, you would like to use the app and test the various features before loosening your purse strings.

Google doesn’t offer “try before you buy” apps but there’s an easy workaround that will help you test any paid app before buying it – you buy an app from the Android market, use it for about 10-12 minutes and then refund the app. The app will be uninstalled from your mobile phone and your account won’t be charged.

How to Refund an Android App

It take a few easy steps to refund an app to the Android Market:

Step 1: Visit the Google Android Market, either on your desktop or your mobile phone, and buy any of the 'paid' apps.

Step 2: The app is now installed on your mobile phone. Launch the app and you can test it for the next 10-12 minutes.

Step 3. Go back to the Android Market app on your mobile phone and under 'My Apps,' tap the app name that you are trying to refund. Hit the 'Refund' button and the app will automatically uninstall from your mobile phone.

Step 4. Once the App has been uninstalled, it may ask you to specify a reason for removing the app. You can check 'I'd rather not say' here and the app amount will be refunded. You’ll also get an email from Google saying:

You have uninstalled the application from your phone. We have cancelled your order and you have not been charged.

The refund process is quite easy and 10 minutes are often enough for you to get a good idea about an app. I tried this with at least two different paid apps and the whole thing worked without a hitch. There are however two things regarding Google’s refund policy that you should know:

1. You only have 15 minutes to return an app to the Android Market from the time of download after which the “refund” option will disappear from the app.

2. You can return an app only once; if you refund an app and purchase it again, you won’t be able to refund it to the Android Market.

Send your Handwritten Notes to Google Docs with Livescribe

Send your Handwritten Notes to Google Docs with Livescribe: "

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could write (or draw) on a piece of paper with a pen and send that handwritten note straight to the cloud – like Google Docs or Evernote – for digital archiving?

One option is that you use scan the paper as a PDF file and upload it to Google Docs but if you need a solution that’s more simple and completely automated, consider getting yourself a Livescribe pen.

Livescribe is an impressive piece of technology – it is like a regular pen with an ink cartridge but unlike any other pen, Livescribe pens record everything that you write on a notebook including the audio that you hear (like when you are in a meeting or a lecture).

Later, you can tap on your notes to replay the recording. You can connect the pen to your computer via a USB cable to transfer all your handwritten notes and the linked voice recordings to the desktop. All your handwritten notes are searchable now or you can transcribe them to digital text using the Livescribe Desktop software.

As an example, see this PDF note that Arianna Huffington wrote using a Livescribe pen.

What is a Livescribe Smartpen?

Send your Paper Notes to Google Docs, Evernote, etc.

Livescribe today announced a new software update that will let you send your handwritten notes from paper to cloud services like Facebook, Google Docs or Evernote with a few taps.

You draw a small double-line on the paper that you want to archive, write the destination name on that line (like “Google Docs”) and the next time you connect your pen to the computer, the note will find its way to the cloud automatically.

A limitation is that the transfer is not wireless and will only happen when you connect the pen to your PC or Mac. Livescribe Pens start at $99 (the basic model has 2 GB storage) but there’s another recurring cost – it only works with a special kind of paper.

China formally kicked off its mass celebrations of 60 years of communist rule with a 60-gun salute that rung out across Beijing's historic Tiananmen Square earlier today. Hundreds of thousands of participants marched past Tiananmen Square in costume or uniform, with floats and dancers mingling with soldiers and military hardware. Collected here are photographs of the once-in-a-decade National Day parade in Beijing, and of others commemorating the anniversary elsewhere
