CARRIE UNDERWOOD DONATES ONE MILLION DOLLARS FROM TOUR PROCEEDS TO RED CROSS
Proceeds To Benefit Disaster Relief Including Oklahoma

As Carrie Underwood prepares to wrap her 2012-2013 “Blown Away Tour” tonight in Abbottsford, BC, a one million dollar donation is being made to the Red Cross for disaster relief. The charitable contribution to the Red Cross derives from the tour’s concert proceeds and was established when it launched in spring 2012.

    “I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness,” says Carrie. “With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornados.”

    Carrie’s home state of Oklahoma has recently experienced devastating tornados. This contribution to disaster relief will help people affected by disasters like tornados, floods and other crises around the country, including Oklahoma.

    “The impact of the tornados in Oklahoma and the Midwest was devastating and the road to recovery will be long for many families. Through the generosity of Carrie, the American Red Cross can quickly respond with shelter, food and comfort now, and with lasting help as they move toward recovery,” said Neal Litvack, chief development officer for the Red Cross.

    Earlier in the tour, following a performance in Atlantic City, NJ, Carrie designated funds to support the response and relief efforts in New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

    Every year, the American Red Cross prepares for and responds to nearly 70,000 disasters across the United States where they provide shelter, food, and emotional support for those in need. Proceeds from her Canadian concerts will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

    Since releasing her debut album in 2005, Carrie has sold over 15 million albums and placed 17 No. 1 singles on the charts. Her recent album, Blown Away, made history by debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart, making Carrie only the second country artist in the 47-year history of the chart to have each of their first four albums debut at No. 1. The now platinum-selling Blown Away album also debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, making Carrie only the second country artist in history to have three consecutive albums debut at No. 1. She is a six-time Grammy winner, a two-time Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, a three-time Country Music Association and ACM Female Vocalist winner, and a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry.

As forecast, Vampire Weekend notches its second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as "Modern Vampires of the City" debuts atop the list this week. The set sold 134,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which is a record high sales week for the act.

The group's last album, "Contra," previously held the act's one-week sales record when it started at No. 1 in January of 2010 with 124,000.

The Winner Is - Singing Show Premiere Date And Time

NBC will soon premiere a new singing show called "The Winner Is". The Nick Lachey-hosted show kicks off on July 11th, Thursday, at 9:00PM ET.

"The Winner Is," a new vocal game show that showcases talented singers of all ages - soloists and groups that include adults, kids, teens, seniors, families and professionals - all of whom will compete in head-to-head singing duels.

The contestants will be judged by a special in-studio panel led by one celebrity judge (to be announced) as they compete for an ultimate cash prize of $1 million. In a unique twist, they will have the chance to negotiate a deal with their opponent. Before hearing their fate the contestants can choose to step out of the competition in exchange for a predetermined cash prize or continue on in the game.

The show comes from Talpa Media USA, Inc. (NBC's "The Voice"). John de Mol is the executive producer.

The announcement was made by Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC.

"We are thrilled to be working with John de Mol, the creator and one of the producers of 'The Voice,' on this original singing game show that will feature a broad range of talent, dueling performers and the surprise of in-the-moment negotiations and decisions," said Telegdy. "Talented singers and the show's surprising competitive twist, with the possibility of negotiating a deal to step out of the game, will have viewers engaged and entertained."

The show's competing singers will be given the chance to become rich in record time. After each singing duel, both opposing performances will be judged. The contestants will then have the option of making a deal. If they have doubts about how they have measured up against their opponent, they can leave the show -- in exchange for the instant cash that round is worth. But if they're confident they performed better than their opponent, they can await the jury results to see if they've made it to the next round and a step closer to the $1 million in ultimate prize money.

Singing contestants need to be confident of their own talent but shouldn't underestimate their opponents. There's a lot at stake: the amount of money each duel is worth increases with every round, right up until the finale.

In the finale, eight singers will duel and negotiate. They continue to compete until just two amazing singing contestants remain. Then the two finalists must make a crucial decision. After their performance, they each get the chance to walk away with $100,000 -- or they can risk losing that huge amount of cash by awaiting the jury vote and the votes from the viewers for the chance to win the $1 million prize.
