Microsoft Bing has currently reached a milestone in its business operations, as it has announced a new partnership between itself and the Yahoo search platform. A recent Bing Blog post, dated August 24, 2010, stated that the search powerhouse would now be powering Yahoo’s search results in the U.S. and Canada. Just the other day I received an email from Bing detailing this, as well as other pertinent information.

Evidently the new functionality will also enable one to move their Yahoo search campaigns directly into their Microsoft Adcenter account. For those who currently don’t have a Yahoo Search Marketing account, they are encouraged to prepare their search campaigns for Yahoo by using the Microsoft Advertising Intelligence to gain current search statistics and tailor keywords/campaign details accordingly.

As with any merger of this magnitude, the benefit to the marketing team increases insomuch as one’s ability to capitalize off of this “new found” traffic source. Is this Bing’s answer to the giant known as Google? Time will tell. I suggest that we all take advantage of this and keep all of our respective visitors updated on current events surrounding this.

I recently had the opportunity to catch an interesting article on organic vs. paid search, by Microsoft Adcenter community commentator Nick Drew. This article is very informative and sparked interesting discussion. Another destination that you must travel to is the Bing Webmaster Tools portal. They have excellent resources there, such as how to submit your site to the Bing Search Engine.

Bing also boasts some really impressive search engine optimization (SEO) and SEM tools for webmasters. You know what I say to this? Take action and get your business out there, via search, in front of millions of prospective customers today!

Greetings all. I’ve been thinking of an alternative way to turn a profit out of un-used or under-performing domains. Have you ever been faced with the dilemma of trying to decide on the best in domain parking solutions? How about trying to monetize a site that was parked? Domain parking is a process, offered by most domain registrar services, that allows for an owner of  a website or web address to customize their domain names. Once parked, basic advertisements are placed on this domain in the hopes that some revenue would be shared with you via the parking service’s PPC platform. I’m sure you’ve seen these parked domains before, as they tend to be really simple in design with not a lot to visually draw one in.

When thinking about a solution for your parked domain, as a general rule, you’ll want to cover the following criteria:

• Pay Per Click – Basically when someone clicks an add on your parked domain, you earn a percentage of the PPC revenue.
• Customization – As Internet marketing tactics change with the times, you domain should be in tune with changing times, you want your domain to be a real destination for visitors and, hopefully, return visitors.
• Management Services – In order to be successful at any endeavor, there has to be a support team involved. As my Mother would say, “no man/woman is an Island”.
• SEO – You need some type of functionality for your parked domain to be able to become indexed in the major search engines.

I recently signed up for an account with SmartName and will be keeping everyone up to date with how my newly purchase domain names are doing with this company. This is just one of the many testing exercises that I find myself getting into nowadays. If this is a great service, and I’m finding out that it is, then visitors to my site will be the first to know.

Now some good info about what SmartName actually does. They have functionality for you to park your domains with them and have a fully functional storefront, regular parked domain and/or content rich website. Smartname also has an excellent back-end interface that allows you to choose which keywords to use for your specific domains. Boasting a wide range of nich-specific website templates, I am beginning to see the novelty of parking domains with Smartname.

Not only are you able to place Google Adsense into your custimized website, you can also include affiliate campaigns from popular CPA networks of your choice. I’m still playing around with the interface, but it’s very intuitive and easy to follow.

Looks nice huh? The site also comes with a fully-functioning storefront that I didn’t even have to set up! Great! Keywords were only recently chosen, so I’m going to monitor and see how this site is indexed in a few. Video blogging (vlogging) takes the best aspects of storytelling and combines them with video performance to create your personal statement. Vlogging can heighten the attention to the story that you are telling, drawing it into the forefront. Here are some great vlogging tips to get you started.

1. Learn storytelling techniques – It does not matter what your blog is about. Learn storytelling techniques so that you are captivating your audience and sharing with them your passions for a subject. Learn how to use your style for the most compelling dramatic effects.
2. Stay on message – Have you watched videos which do not seem to have any direction? Have you watched videos which jump from topic to topic like a gnat? Those videos are not as enjoyable to watch as ones which begin with a subject, develop that subject and come to a head with their passion and ideas.
3. Vary your location – While it is true that you want to have some consistency with your vlog, you want to change your location from time to time. This will provide your viewers with a taste of the unexpected, breaking up the monotony and creating more interest in your vlog. This will also provide you with more experience with video taping in different environments.
4. Write it down first – Take the time to write out what you are planning to say. This will give you the opportunity to heighten passages that are of importance to you as well as diminish connection dialogue. Take a moment to write down your work without the cameras, so you can present the best image when you are in front of the cameras.
5. Light your video well – Make sure that you have the best possible lighting source. Nobody wants to watch a dark, grainy video where activity is not easily discernible. Before you record, examine the light sources that you have available. If you feel that you are in a cave, brighten it up.
6. Be careful about what you’re wearing – The camera can heighten your appearance. It allows readers to get a view of you for more than a few minutes, and your clothes will be scrutinized. When you are vlogging, you do not want to give the wrong impression to your viewers. Stay away from loud tee shirts and pants with stains.
7. Practice a lot – Practice, practice, practice. By practicing your material, you will learn how to better convey your message. You will also develop your speaking style and learn how to draw out those unique things which will make you special to the vlogging community.
8. Keep your camera handy – Learn about the features of your camera and take every opportunity to film your surroundings. You might stumble upon some activity that intrigues you. By honing those skills, you present more valuable material to the viewing public.
9. Repeat yourself for reinforcement – You are striving to stay on message. If you repeat yourself, it emphasizes the point that you are making and reinforces the idea within your viewer’s mind. You want your information to be memorable, and some people need to be exposed to information more than once to fully understand and learn. Repetition is one of the main strategies of political and motivational speech.
10. Cut out the ‘uh’ – Every word that you say on your vlog posts should be intentional. Leave out the uhhs, aaahs, errs, unless they are used to emphasize a point. Regather your thoughts and continue with the dialogue. People are watching your vlogs for content and entertainment, and the unessential speech is taking away from your point.

Practicing and learning will lead you to great vlogs. Write down the information that you want to convey, be aware of your appearance, and remove unessential words. Soon enough, you will have the quintessential vlog.

Domain name purchasing is one of the most important aspects of Internet marketing. By far, almost no other action that you may take, to increase your online business, will be as important as a strategically chosen and placed domain name. Okay so you’re probably wondering…what exactly is a domain name? Quite simply a domain name is  the name, prefixed by either http:// or www. , that a given user will type in to find your site on the information highway (world wide web).

Technically speaking a domain name has an  Internet Protocol (IP) address associated with it. You purchase this domain name from what is known as a domain registrar. Domain name servers interpret the written domain name (http://example.com) as numeric characters associated with the IP address (32 bit binary code comprised of electrical “1″ and “0″) and store this information to answer queries on inter-networking data devices. In the background of the Internet, basically, things are working to allow users to find your site…at this particular level.

On another level search engine spiders need various information to store your domain in their respective search engines. Depending on your particular business and/or niche, you want to make the job easier on the search engines to associate your domain to its related content. You also want to make it easier for people to find your business and be able to remember the name, so as to type it into a search engine or website address bar.  The idea, then , is to keep your domain name relatively simple and easy to remember. Uniqueness is the key! Some would say to not include dashes, but this is based off of older research and may/may not apply to your particular type of business.

There was a time when companies who are very major now, got in early on the internet boom and picked up all the three-letter-domain names (think CNN). Nowadays it may be relatively hard to come up with a three-letter domain name that isn’t already taken. How do you find out if a particular domain name is already taken? More importantly, if you do happen to find a domain name that suites you, how does one go about making an informed purchase? There are many registrars and domain hosting services out there, but I can only give you what I have tried and had success with. No fluff or exaggerations here…only proven methods.

NameCheap is one such registrar that comes to mind when one would like to get the best for his/her money. They have excellent customer support service and also have “whois” block functionality. Whois block is a service that blocks your personal information from anyone trying to find out who owns a particular website. I would recommend this service to anyone. They have also started a hosting service as well.

Godaddy is also another excellent registrar service that offers a variety of registration platforms for domain name purchasing. The have a very clean user-interface as well as great packaging options. Have a website that you’ve already purchased, but want to get rid of? Godaddy has services that enable you to earn the best price for the selling of your domain.

Tips for both of these services? NEVER go directly to each site. Go to the Google search engine and type in each, seperately, and wait for the results. Once the results are shown, there will usually be a sponsored ad at the very top of the Google search results. This is a coupon type function for each company and will allow for cheaper purchasing of domain names.

Another service, used to decrease the price of your domain purchase, would be the online coupon site Retailmenot. With thousands of online business offering coupons to some of your favorite services, its natural to think that companies like NameCheap would be amongst those offering great discounts. When you go to purchase your domains with NameCheap, you can also enter in various coupon codes to lesson the amount of money that you have to pay for your purchase.

Some of the discounts, at first glance, may not seem like much. When you start to get up there in the number of websites that you are hosting, however, every little bit does count. I hope this advice will help to lesson the load on your wallet. It’s helped me greatly (smiles).

Okay so now you have a domain name, but need somewhere to host it. Where to? While Godaddy and NameCheap may offer these services, you have to do research on what all comes with the hosting service. A lot of my online marketing buddies are familiar with a hosting software called cPanel. What cPanel does is give one leverage to host websites very effectively. With software scripts for forum creation, WordPress blog Creation and various other software tools, I would recommend a hosting provider that has cPanel. Although there are other formats out there, cPanel has me hooked!
