What sort of reaction have you had to the fourth series?

"It's been a good reaction so far. People warmed to the characters last year and that was a big part of the challenge. We put out the first episode and it got a bit of flak because it had a hard job to do - Skins was a series with all these well-loved characters and then we charged in! We had to be introduced and then we could tell stories. This series, people know the characters and you're back where you started. We're now in a similar position to the last cast in series two. On the whole, people have been happy about this series."

What did you think of last week's Freddie-centric episode?
"I thought it was amazing - really good. It was a brilliant piece of television and a standout from the series so far. It was dark, which fits with the series as a whole, but it was a good story - brilliantly written, brilliantly acted, well filmed and very well-received. It was a really solid episode - it wasn't too weird to be unbelievable."

Are you nervous about following that one?
"A bit nervous, but my episode is very different. I hope people will understand that and accept it for what it is. It is completely different to what we've just seen - it's not depressing and it's quite separate from the rest of the storylines in the show. It's appropriate for JJ: he's happy at the moment, and my episode should explain why! He's moved away from the three musketeers and he's found his own niche at the moment."

He gets a girlfriend, doesn't he? What can you tell us about her?
"She's called Lara and she works in the same place that he does and she's a very weird character, in her own way. She's genuine and nice and as far as JJ can see, she's everything that he would want in a girl."

How many episodes is she sticking around for?
"I'm not sure that I'm allowed to tell you!"

This is Skins, so I assume he's gonna have his heart broken?
"Sort of! There's certainly some trials and tribulations, and certainly nothing comes for free - especially not for a character like JJ. There are always compromises to make and challenges to overcome and this of course is no exception! Why the hell should he get to meet the perfect girl and just be with her?!"

There's a theory that his girlfriend will turn out to be a figment of his imagination. What do you think to that?
"I think that's a brilliant storyline! It certainly could happen. I don't know whether I can dispel that! I don't think she is, but I would love to see an episode like that - that would be really cool actually. She's not, but his imagination is definitely overactive. His mind does definitely affect the relationship he has with her. He's gonna find it quite difficult to be totally at ease throughout the episode."

Since you're all off to pastures new at the end of the series, does that mean it's likely someone will be killed off?
"I don't know... I couldn't say! I think it would just bring back ideas of the first cast and Chris dying, so I think it would be foolish to do something like that again. You're limited to the amount of stories that exist, but you have to be careful that you don't repeat."

Is the final episode a good conclusion for the series?
"It wraps up everyone's storylines very nicely. When we first met all of these characters had a lot of learning to do, but by the end they've come full circle. They're well-rounded people who've learned lessons and you'll see them completed as characters. The audience knows we're not going to be in series five and six so the writers have played to it a bit."

Is there anything that wasn't done with JJ that you would have liked to see explored?
"That's a great question! But no, I don't think so. Looking solely at JJ's story, it covers everything that a character like that would do in those situations. I think by the end of the series, every base is touched in the story of JJ. I'm happy with how he's turned out - he's almost become a friend that I know now!"

'Skins' couple not bitter after break-up

Kaya Scodelario and Jack O'Connell have said that they are still good friends despite the end of their real life relationship

The pair, who play Effy Stonem and James Cook in E4 teen drama Skins, dated during the filming of the third series of the show but split up last year.

Scodelario told Heat: "He was very romantic... Me and Jack went out about a year-and-a-half ago and had a really good year together.

"We broke up in June and it was really friendly and I didn't meet my current boyfriend [Shameless star] Elliott [Tittensor] until the end of September, so no paths crossed at all.

"If you spend a year of your life with someone, you still care about them a lot and I didn't want to upset Jack in any way and I hope he feels the same about me."

When asked if the split was awkward, O'Connell replied: "It wasn't, man. And from an ex's point of view I'd rather Kaya go out someone I consider to be a decent fella, rather than some random. I think it would take a lot for it to be awkward between us."

Nicholas Hoult will be at the 3rd annual BFI Future Film Festival at the BFI Southbank.

There will be a Q&A session with Nicholas Hoult, and a viewing of one of his favourite films (What's Eating Gilbert Grape). This will be happening on Saturday 6th at 12-3pm.

There's also two casting workshops on the Saturday with Jane Ripley. These booked up extrememly quickly but people may drop out so they're still taking reserve bookings.

Skins storms back with nearly 1 million viewers

Skins returned with nearly 1 million viewers on E4 last night, Thursday 28 January, easily outdoing the return of Secret Diary of a Call Girl on ITV2.

The start of the fourth series of E4's teen drama attracted 938,000 viewers in the 10pm hour, a 5.1% share of the multichannel audience. A further 164,000 watched an hour later on catchup service E4 +1, according to unofficial overnight ratings.

O'Connell unfazed by naked scenes

Jack O'Connell has revealed that he is unfazed by filming sex scenes for Skins.

However, the 20-year-old actor - Cook in the E4 teen drama - told DS that he feels sorry for the makeup crew who have to draw his alter ego's tattoo on his bottom.

"I'm not very prone to humiliation on that front," he said. "We've all got one, haven't we? Depending what gender!

"Especially when it's decorated in that manner - I don't feel like people are looking at my bum, they're looking at the detail on it. But because that doesn't exist, it means Cook keeps his trousers on because makeup have to tattoo my arse!"

He added: "I don't know how appealing a task that sounds for a middle-aged woman of such professionalism! It won't add no spring in her step!"

SAUCY Skins beauty Kaya Scodelario wishes she could have been part of the show's racy lesbian plot.

The actress said she was disappointed she did not get to join in the action between characters Naomi Campbell (Lily Loveless) and Emily Fitch (Kathryn Prescott).

Kaya, 17 - who plays Effy Stonem - told TV Biz: "Unfortunately I wasn't in the lesbian storyline but I would have loved to have been.

"Acting out lesbian scenes would have been really fun.

"I have so much respect for Kat and Lily that they can make it work because neither of them are lesbians but it looks so beautiful and real."

'Skins' star surprised by gay kiss

Luke Pasqualino has admitted that his on-screen kiss with Jack O'Connell took him by surprise.

In the third series of Skins, O'Connell's Cook kissed Pasqualino's Freddie during a fight over Effy (Kaya Scodelario).

Speaking to Gay Times, Pasqualino said that he "didn't really know it was going to happen".

'Skins' star calls for Naomi spinoff

Skins star Lily Loveless has suggested that her character should be given her own spinoff.

The 19-year-old actress, who plays sexually-confused teen Naomi Campbell in the E4 series, also praised the producers for axing the cast again.

"Series that carry on for ages with the same cast - the amount of things would happen would become very unbelievable," she told DS.

Pasqualino sad about leaving Skins

Skins star Luke Pasqualino has confessed he's upset his days on the show are coming to an end, but hopes to move on to "bigger and better" things.

The 19-year-old has played skateboard fanatic Freddie Mclair in the third and fourth series of the E4 teen drama and has mixed feelings about leaving when the show moves on to follow another group of youngsters.

Luke said: "It feels weird actually, because Skins is the first TV job I'd ever done - this is kind of where it really started for me."

He added: "It's been such an amazing platform for me to help get where I am. But in a way I want to be able to get out of Skins and kind of move on and do better things, bigger and better, and just build up my career really.

"But on another note... I'm a bit upset to be leaving because you build up a little family on set and all of that kind of stuff. So yeah, a bit mixed for me."

While we all enjoy the hormonally charged sexcapades brought to us by the cast of Skins, but apparently some of them aren’t having much fun during filming.

In an interview with Heat magazine, Luke Pasqualino who plays Freddie has said that due to the use of body doubles, he’s simulating sex with total strangers.

It’s a bit weird. She’s a bit nervous… which you would be coming on to a strange set and literally riding some bloke you met five minutes ago.

On the other hand Luke’s co-star Jack O’Connell is having the time of his life and apparently shagging his brains out.

Yeah, it’s pretty f**king hot man. I get to shag loads of girls on this show. You can’t complain, can you?

Skins up for gay and lesbian award in US

Skins has been nominated for an award in the US recognising the fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The E4 drama is broadcast on BBC America in the States and is up for the drama series gong from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

'Will Young amazing on Skins'

A writer on Skins has praised Will Young for his upcoming guest stint.

Georgia Lester, who has written for the E4 teen drama since its second series, told DS that the cast and crew were impressed with his acting.

"He is playing the school counsellor. Am I allowed to tell you that?! He's very funny. From what I've heard on set, everyone came away saying how amazing he was," she said.

"He's got some really funny quirks and he bonds a lot with one of our main characters, and helps that character at a time in need."

Pauline Quirke has also been confirmed as a guest star on the fourth series, which begins January on E4.

Here's an interview with one of the writers, Georgia Lester.

How does the new series differ from the last?
"The friendships are more bonded. Series three was about them coming together and being friends, whereas now, the group is formed and they're supporting each other through all the problems that come!"

Do you take your own experiences to help write the stories you tell?
"Yeah, sometimes. I've got a younger brother who is 17, and that's the kind of age group we're writing for, so I'm always eavesdropping on conversations to see what's going on in his life. He doesn't have a diary, but I'm often hacking into his Facebook!"

Will the Freddie/Effy/Cook love triangle finally be resolved?
"Effy does choose someone, but I can't tell you who! Nothing can be happy when it comes to Effy, so there's a lot of heartbreak. They all become mended at points.."

Effy's been around since the start of the series. Do you think it'll be odd without her?
"Yeah, I think she really has grown within Skins and the audience has loved her. But I think it's another challenge for the writers and for the audience to accept - if we do get recommissioned - a completely new cast. I think it will be very sad when she leaves - Kaya's been a massive part of Skins."

When did you decide to let her speak? She was mute for the first series...
"She spoke in series two with Michelle on a bench - she said her brother was a wanker, or something like that! I think that once we'd decided she was going to be a major character, it was probably wise to let her speak! I think she didn't speak for that year because she was just bored of life and then starting college, things were happening around her."

Is there anyone in the current cast who might stick around for a fifth series?
"I can't imagine anyone at the moment. I just love James Fitch - there's more of him in this coming series, but he's not quite the right age to become the main cast! There's a lot of Fitch in the next series."

Are there any plans to bring back the first cast for this series? I heard a rumour that Sid was returning...
"I don't know. I don't think any of the main old cast will be coming back. There might be some special appearances, but I can't say who! I can't ruin in for the fans!"

The end of series two saw Chris killed off. Can we expect a similar tragedy this time around?
"The whole series starts with a bang - it's not even a tragedy at the end. From the way episode one opens, there are going to be a lot of shocking things happening. There's a lot of tears, but hopefully a lot of laughter. There's definitely some upset."

You're introducing a new character called Lara. What can you tell us about her?
"She's cool. JJ will finally, maybe, find love with her. But this is Skins, this is teenage drama, and everyone's gotta get their heart broken before they can fall properly in love! There's a really sweet episode with JJ - it shows him growing up and accepting who he is. He has to trust someone new who isn't in his comfort zone of the three musketeers!"

Whose episode is your favourite?
"I don't even know if I could pick a favourite! I think the Cook episode is very powerful - it's great. That comes before [the one I wrote], so I hope people aren't gonna be disappointed. Effy's got one of the biggest stories, but everyone's character has an important journey. I wrote for Katie and I'm quietly confident that by the end of her episode, you'll know who she is - properly. The episodes this year are a lot more single - you really spend a lot of time with each character. There are new friendships formed and they have an impact on each story..."

How does the writing work - do you each take a character?
"We each have an episode and then we'll meet weekly to discuss serial elements. So for example, if Katie was in an episode I'd tell them what she would be doing. And then I say what state I see her being in at the end of the series. We have an ownership over our own characters throughout the series, but then we have free reign over the other characters in our episode."

Will we see a softer side to Katie this series?
"I wouldn't say she's a soft person! She's very strong, independent, and I think you'll empathise with her a lot. The fans will love her! There's a bit of romance, but I think it's important that everyone knows she doesn't need a boy in her life to be happy."

Looking back on series three, which stories do you think worked particularly well?
"From the reaction of the fans, we all know that the Emily/Naomi story worked wonders. We were surprised. It wasn't anything to do with them being lesbians - it was just a heartwarming love story about two people who didn't really know how to explore those feelings at that age. That was one of our strongest stories. There's lot of Naomi/Emily drama to come!"

New 'Skins' features "lots of heartbreak"

Skins writer Georgia Lester has revealed that the show's fourth series will feature "lots of heartbreak".

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, she confessed that the love triangle between Freddie, Effy and Cook will finally be resolved.

Will Young is to make a cameo in popular TV series Skins.

Bosses at E4 confirmed the singer's involvement, saying in a statement: "E4 is delighted to confirm that Will Young will appear as a guest star in Skins series four."

As for his part? The channel reveals: "He will join Roundview College for one episode, playing Educational Intervention Officer, T Love."

USA To Remake Skins!

I've been reading up online that the USA is ~~ripping off~~ remaking Skins in Baltimore.

MTV, who will be remaking the series, are keen to "preserve the authenticity" of the show by including drug taking, sex and casting unknown actors to play the characters. Although when the British version of Skins is aired on BBC America, nudity and bad language is censored out so it will be interesting to see how far they dare go.

We are delighted to be making ‘Skins’ for the U.S. and in particular, for MTV who have embraced the show and its ambitions and unusual production process. We are looking forward to talking to teenagers across the U.S. and making a show that reflects their lives in every aspect,” said Charlie Pattinson, CEO, Company Pictures.

Skins cast promote rail safety in South Wales

Stars of raunchy teen drama Skins are in South Wales today to front a campaign aimed at cutting rail crime in the region.

Ollie Barbieri and Lisa Backwell will be in Cardiff encouraging local teens to try out new activities over the school holidays rather than hang out near deadly railway lines.

The performers, well known for their characters JJ Jones and Pandora Moon in the successful E4 show, have been drafted in for the free campaign event by organisers Network Rail.

According to the train franchise, rail crime and injuries suffered on the tracks soar during summer breaks, largely due to the longer, lighter evenings when youngsters can struggle to find things to do.

Scodelario: 'I would strip for Carnival'

Skins star Kaya Scodelario has revealed that it is her ambition to perform at the Carnival in Rio.

Scodelario, who plays Effy Stonem in the teen drama, also admitted that she would be willing to appear "semi-naked" at the famous Brazilian event.

The 17-year-old actress is half-Brazilian and can speak Portuguese.

"It's my ambition to go to the Carnival in Rio. I saw the woman on the float who fell down and had hardly any clothing on," she told The Sun. "It's one of my big hopes to do that - but I don't want to fall down.

"People think it's about the girls showing their nakedness, but I think it's more about showing your beauty... Brazilian women are proud of their bodies. I'm the same."

Skins 4 is filming right now and we need a crowd of 300 people for the opening scenes of the first episode. It’s a blinder of an opening sequence but we can’t tell you all about it here, though there may be some dancing involved.

Filming will take place on Monday 24th August 2009 between midday and midnight. Please note that you must be between the ages of 18 and 21 at the time of applying.

Interview with Fat Segal

Is the name Fat Segal a name dedicated to Britain’s obese seagull epidemic or a tribute to Steven Segal?
It is certainly nothing to do with birds or aikido, but is pronounced the same as the actor you mention.

You’ve attracted major attention through your music being featured on Skins. Do you want to record under the Fat Segal alias for a bit longer and then move on?
Not sure, I will probably always record under ‘Segal’ but I have a few different aliases already.

What’s better? Potato skins or the TV show Skins?
Depends. By my reckoning there is nothing better in the entire tap-dancing world than a potato skin roasted with some red leicester, bacon (preferably smoked and streaky), spring onions, finished with sour cream, a touch of lime juice, a sprinkling of chives, washed down with a bottle of cerveza.

Would you consider a permanent move into soundtracking TV and film?
Yeah I love doing it. I’d be well up for scoring film, but I also want to make records. I could be like Phillip Glass without any of the musicality!

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard of you?
Utter clown shit to be honest.

Electronic music can be created on the move. Did you get opportunities to jam alongside what was being filmed?
The track that opens the second series of Skins was pretty much created on a laptop during choreography/rehearsals. Mainly though I keep my distance, only get involved when the cut takes shape.

Have you ever heard of hecklerspray before today? We try and write stuff to make people laugh or cause fits of misspelt rage.
That’s weird; I try and do that with my music.

What’s your favourite meal?
Aside from potato skins gotta be Prawn Linguini with garlic, chilli and lemon

What’s floating your boat musically?
Drexciya - Grava 4, Steve Reich - Daniel Variations and Mastodon – Leviathan.

Where the devil did the producers of the show find you in order to create the beats for the show?
Jamie Brittain (Skins Co-Creator) is one of my best friends and we used to make tracks together at uni, it spiralled from there. Did some demo theme music for them and they kindly offered me the role of composer on the show.

Where can we get our paws on your music?
You’ll be able to get my first ever rekkid from that virtual music boutique that rhymes with ‘pie goons’ very soon. Just finalising the artwork.

Any words of wisdom?
I’m going to have to let Gandalf answer that one.
