What you put on your plate has tremendous impact on your overall health. Stock your fridge and pantry with these six Candida-fighting foods and eat your way to better health.

If you’re like most Candida sufferers, chances are that you obsess over everything you can’t have.

While it’s crucial to limit the consumption of no-no ingredients (such as sugar, white flour, and over-processed foods), it’s just as important to pay attention to what you should eat.

Learn what are the top Candida-fighting foods and begin adding them into your diet today:

1. Sauerkraut

Sauerkraut – also known as fermented cabbage – is loaded with immune-boosting compounds and vitamins that can help improve your overall health. If that wasn’t enough, this superfood also contains beneficial microbes such as lactobacillus, leuconostoc, and pediococcus.

Known as probiotics, these friendly bacteria compete with Candida for space in the gastrointestinal tract, helping your body to better deal with yeast overgrowth.

In fact, sauerkraut is so full of vitamins and probiotics that ancient sailors brought casks of it along with them on long voyages to stay healthy!

One word of caution, though: when shopping, make sure to visit the refrigerated section of your grocery store and choose unpasteurized sauerkraut. This is important, because pasteurization – used to treat most supermarket sauerkraut – kills the probiotic bacteria.

2. Miso

One thing that has always intrigued our scientists is the level of health enjoyed by the Japanese. Not only people in Japan live longer, they also have much lower rates of heart disease and cancer. Their secret? Ongoing research suggests it has something to do with their diet.

The average Japanese person eats a broad range of fermented foods. On top of the list is miso soup, a popular salty dish eaten on a daily basis, consisting of fermented soybean paste, bean curd, seaweed and vegetables. According to WebMD, miso contains over 160 probiotic strains, which may help replenish beneficial gut flora and displace Candida albicans.

There are many types of miso available – and not all are created equal. For best results, make sure to stick with a trusted brand, such as this certified organic miso. When in doubt, ask for advice at your local health food store.

3. Coconut oil

Over the past few years, coconut oil has received a lot of praise for its health-promoting properties – and with a good reason. Virgin coconut oil, which has not been chemically treated, is about 50 percent lauric acid (the same substance found in breast milk), and boosts our immune system. It also contains caprylic acid, an anti-fungal agent that has been found to be effective against the Candida yeast. Add in the haunting, nutty, vanilla flavor, and it’s no wonder that coconut oil charms the health food world.

4. Kale

Also being called “the queen of greens” and “a nutrition powerhouse”, kale is considered to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Not only is this green leafy veggie chock-full of fiber, vitamins and antioxidants, but it’s also a powerful ally in your battle against Candida.

“There are 79 different toxins released by the metabolism and die-off of Candida,” states Dr. Mercola. Fortunately, due to their high fiber content, vegetables like kale support the body’s natural detoxification processes – over time, the insoluble fiber contained in the vegetables slowly “sweeps” the colon by removing stored toxins from the intestinal wall.

Kale is also highly alkaline, which means that it may assist your body in maintaining a proper pH balance.

5. Garlic

If you’re looking for natural ways to combat systemic yeast infection, there’s probably no better way to get started than with a fresh clove of garlic. This pungent herb contains allicin, a powerful anti-fungal substance that directly eliminates the Candida yeast. Read the article Eating Garlic Could Guard Against Candida for more information on how garlic can help you.

6. Almonds

Aside from being a delicious portable snack, almonds have been shown to have significant prebiotic properties. Scientists from the Institute of Food Research (IFR) found that when we eat almonds, our gastrointestinal tract uses the almond lipid for stimulating the growth of certain beneficial bacteria, helping your body to keep pathogens such as Candida albicans under control.

Plus, almonds are a rich source of vitamin E and minerals, which makes them an excellent choice for any health conscious individual.

For optimal results, remember to incorporate these foods as part of a well-balanced diet. So, while you’re shopping for almonds, don’t neglect walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, or flaxseed. A garlic is great, but so are onions, kale, spinach, lettuce, broccoli, and cucumbers. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, understood the concept more than 2,000 years ago: “Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food!“

A new approach to yeast infection treatment is reportedly helping thousands of people relieve their symptoms in just 12 hours. And they’re doing it without drugs, creams or lotions. Read on for exciting news that could change your life.

You wake up in the morning feeling sluggish and low on energy. Or maybe you notice that you have digestive problems and your brain is unable to concentrate. Then you think, “I’ll be fine in just a few minutes.” Don’t kid yourself. Candida is one of America’s fastest growing ailments. And it’s not just AIDS and cancer patients who are suffering.

Evelyn Chislett (42) from Melbourne, Australia had always suffered from excessive tiredness, constipation, and allergies. “Little did I know that all my symptoms were related to one cause – systemic candidiasis,” she said.

Today, despite what doctors said, she’s not tired and there are no headaches or allergies. Just like thousands of other yeast infection sufferers, Evelyn tried the Yeast Infection No More program developed by Linda Allen, an internationally acclaimed lifestyle coach and clinical nutritionist.

“After years of suffering from a myriad of symptoms, going from doctor to doctor, with no light at the end of the tunnel,” she said, “I finally got the relief I dreamed of.”

You Don’t Have To Suffer Anymore

Evelyn is not alone; in fact, more than 138,000 men and women in 157 countries have already used the program successfully over the past 7 years. Armed with the results, Allen has focused on three main goals – to permanently cure your yeast infection, eliminate your Candida and restore your vitality and energy:

Get 230 pages of advice from Linda Allen – a former Candida sufferer, certified nutrition specialist, health consultant and medical researcher (and receive free email counseling for three months, too)

Discover the shocking truth about conventional treatments, the top ten foods you should never eat and the connection between yeast overgrowth, exercise, and stress

As it turns out, lasting candida freedom isn’t something elusive – although it’s probably not for everyone as people who are not willing to change their bad eating habits should think twice before getting this ebook: “The dictionary is the only place success comes before work,” says Allen, as she emphasizes the “no quick fix” philosophy behind the entire book.

The book, although currently available only in instantly downloadable .pdf format, has earned widespread acclaim thanks to its clear and concise writing style that uses laymen terms. “I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I hadn’t figured out the root causes of my sickness,” explains Jeff Severino at the Yeast Infection No More website as he tells his story. “Now, I feel absolutely terrific. I have no migraines or allergies and my sleep has greatly improved,” he adds.

Is Candida making you sick and tired? Yeast overgrowth can be treated with an integrative approach - learn how to do it.

Candida infection can be treated with an integrative approach that involves probiotics, antifungals, nutritional supplements and lifestyle changes. Read on for experts’ advice.

If you’re living with chronic yeast infection, you’re familiar with symptoms like vaginal infections, brain fog and digestive disorders. Fortunately, there’s a lot you can do to relieve discomfort and reclaim your lost energy and vitality – and this article can be a great resource.

Your first step to better health is dietary modification. Because Candida feeds on sugar and thrives in a high-acid environment, it is recommended to reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, processed foods and dairy. According to Dr. Mercola, “A diet rich in meats, chicken, eggs, seeds and nuts, vegetables, and healthy oils – while avoiding sugars and carbohydrate-rich foods – will restrict the amount of fuel the yeast in your intestine has available to it.”

Don’t be afraid of cultured foods. “After I met Donna Gates, author of The Body Ecology Diet, I have become a strong believer in the importance of cultured foods and eat them with every meal to aid in digestion,” explains Dr. Kendra Pearsall in her article on Candida cleanse. Cultured vegetables, miso, homemade sauerkraut, kombucha and plain organic yogurt are all great choices because they provide beneficial microorganisms for the gut.

The main staples of a Candida-fighting diet are fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, gluten-free grains (quinoa, buckwheat), beans, legumes, and high-quality animal products. See the complete guidelines for a yeast-free diet for more information on what foods you should avoid, how to balance your body’s pH, and handy shopping tips.

Replenish Essential Bacteria

The best way to support your Candida elimination program is with a probiotic supplement. As Dr. Mark Hyman explains in his article at the Huffington Post, dietary changes sometimes just aren’t enough to clear up stubborn candidiasis. “Often, I find that patients need extra help and should take antifungal herbs, medications, and probiotics.”

Literally meaning "for life", probiotics are supplements that can hep you overcome yeast overgrowth

He recommends his patients to choose a good probiotic supplement and take 10 to 20 billion live organisms of bifidobacterium and lactobacillus species a day. No matter what brand you choose, look for one that uses enteric-coated capsules to keep the bacteria alive during their journey through the stomach acid.

Our digestive tract is host to trillions of bacteria that help train the immune system and produce specific vitamins, enzymes and hormones. What many people don’t realize is that once our intestinal flora gets out of balance, we become susceptible to a wide range of health problems, including allergies, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, weight gain, and most importantly – yeast overgrowth.

Fortunately, recent research has shown that probiotics provide a natural and convenient way to restore the body’s proper bacterial balance; without any harmful side effects. To put it simply, these little microbes displace Candida albicans (the fungus causing the symptoms) and help us digest food, rather than ferment it. For more information and tips on how to pick a high-quality probiotic supplement, read the comprehensive Probiotic Buying Guide.

Explore Natural And Prescription Antifungals

It’s important to remember that you are unique – and so is your relationship with yeast. While some people recover fairly quickly after changing their diet and adding probiotics, others are not so lucky. Should your symptoms of Candida overgrowth persist, you may want to consider additional antifungal support.

Natural antifungals like garlic and coconut oil inhibit excess yeast by using their fungicidal compounds. “When necessary, effective but strong prescription medications can also be called upon,” writes Marcelle Pick, OB/GYN NP and cofounder of Women to Women Clinic in Yarmouth. “I sometimes prescribe Diflucan and alternate it with Nystatin if symptoms persist.”

Garlic is a potent natural antifungal.

Nowadays you can choose from a wide variety of natural solutions – here is a list of popular antifungals that can be found in most health food stores:

Oil of oregano

Garlic

Citrus seed extract

Pau d’Arco

Coconut oil (caprylic acid)

Candex

Candigone

After years of poor dietary habits, antibiotics, stimulants, and drugs, many people are unpleasantly surprised at the decline of their wellbeing. If you suspect an intestinal yeast overgrowth, there are several more things that can help, including omega-3′s, digestive enzymes, stress management, and a multivitamin complex, among others.

My Experience with ThreeLac

Back then I had no idea what to do, especially since there wasn’t much information available about the whole Candida problem. Even without following the Candida diet – just by using ThreeLac alone – I was making a great progress. Especially the first day after taking the first 2 sachets (it’s a pack of 60), I felt an immediate relief.

However, ThreeLac alone – unless your symptoms are mild – won’t cure your yeast infection. Following a balanced and healthy diet is still recommended.

I experienced a major boost of energy. I used to constantly feel tired, and it was because my yeast overgrowth led to brain fog. For me that was the first time when something actually worked.

How it works

ThreeLac is a probiotic supplement. And as the World Health Organisation (WHO) explains, probiotics are “live micro-organisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host.”

The problem with most probiotics is that by the time they reach your digestive system, they are destroyed by acidic environment.

Indeed, many recent studies have shown that probiotics (also known as the “good” or “friendly” bacteria) play a key role in maintaining intestinal health by reducing occasional yeast and fungal overgrowths. In short, the good bacteria aid digestion and keep our bodies healthy and strong.

However, the problem with most probiotics is that by the time they reach your digestive system, they are destroyed by the acidic environment.

ThreeLac is formulated in a way that it enables strains to pass through your system unharmed, so that it reaches your intestines intact. The micro-encapsulation process allows high survivability of these organisms through the stomach acids. Other probiotics simply die before they reach our colon, which makes them useless.

ThreeLac is packaged in individual sachets with a lemon taste. Each packet contains over 1.5 billion live bacteria. ThreeLac doesn’t have to be refrigerated; it is stable at room temperature or slightly above. It is suggested to start with 1-2 packets per day for a day or so, and increase packet by packet every few days until you begin to see improvement.

Threelac contains the following probiotic organisms:

Bacillus coagulans: May help control occasional digestion and stomach problems, and help normalize cholesterol levels. It also may enhance the immune response.

Bacillus subtilis: May combat harmful microorganisms in the intestines.

Enterococcus faecalis: The Enterococci constitute a major genus within the lactic acid bacteria group, and exists naturally in the human digestive tract. This effective probiotic bacteria is the result of formulation under strict laboratory conditions.

You may also find a product that is called FiveLac – more less the same product but Fivelac has 2 extra friendly bacteria:

Lactobacillus acidophilus

Bifidobacterium longum.

Is ThreeLac worth it?

If you’re looking for a solid probiotic product to make your treatment of Candida infection more effective, I’d say that ThreeLac is something you may want to consider. Based on my own experience as a former Candida sufferer, I have no problem recommending it to you (and using my affiliate link):

PS: Be careful who you order from. I’ve heard that there are some unauthorized dealers on the Internet who provide no instructions, or worse, bad instructions on how best to begin and achieve success with ThreeLac. I always recommend a trusted eshop like Amazon.

Excess sugar is a major culprit in yeast overgrowth and many other diseases. Too much glucose in the bloodstream robs your body of minerals, feeds Candida, initiates inflammation and taxes your immune system. In this article, you’ll learn how to stop sugar cravings and improve your diet.

“If you’re good, you can have a tasty reward.”

Those were the words my mum used to bribe me with when I was a kid.

Back then, cookies and candy were reserved for special occasions. But later on, they became a 24/7 addiction, which – when combined with antibiotics, stress, and immunocompromising steroids – ultimately led to severe yeast overgrowth that cost me two years of my life.

Needless to say, I wasn’t alone. Because the average American consumes 150 pounds of sugar per year, many people have learned the hard way that these dietary habits create a perfect environment for Candida albicans (the organism causing yeast overgrowth) to proliferate and grow out of control.

If you’re one of them, you’ll also know that sugary foods and sweetened drinks can be quite addictive! But unfortunately, the more sugar you eat, the more you feed Candida – and thus the more opportunity for yeast cells to grow and multiply.

5 Simple Tips for Overcoming Sugar Addiction

Researchers from the American Heart Association advise moderation and recommend women to limit their sugar intake to no more than six teaspoons of sugar (about 100 calories) a day. Men can consume up to 150 calories, which is about nine teaspoons.

However, from my own experience I know that this is easier said than done. When I first started on the Candida diet, my cravings didn’t care one bit that I was trying to get healthy – I was used to eating foods high in sugar content and my body wanted more. Fortunately, over time I learned a few effective ways to ride the wave of crave without falling into the ocean:

Eat protein with your meals. Nuts, seeds and avocados are all perfect snacks when you’re on the Candida diet. Eating protein helps keep your blood sugar stable enough to carry you to the next meal without cravings.

Keep your hands busy. Staying active until the crisis passes helps you stay away from the cookie jar – go for a walk, play with your pet, go to the cinema, organize your house – you name it.

Read labels. A brief look at the ingredients list should give you a basic grasp of how suitable a product is. Brown sugar, fruit juice concentrates, corn syrup, fructose, dextrose, lactose, maltose and honey are all sugar in disguise.

Choose complex carbohydrates. As you may know, carbohydrates come in two varieties – simple (refined) and complex. And while you want to avoid all refined sugars, you can still (and should) enjoy complex carbs such as whole grains, beans and vegetables. Not only are these little gems packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber; they also give your body the positive effects of glucose without throwing your blood sugar out of whack and creating cravings.

Ditch artificial sweeteners. Aspartame, Splenda, NutraSweet and other fake sugars won’t quell your cravings for sugar, but increase them. Not to mention that their consumption has been linked to obesity, diabetes and cancer. The only acceptable substitutes for sugar are stevia, agave and xylitol.

There’s no need to get mad if you slip and eat a dessert every once in a while – it’s all part of the process. Giving up sugar is tough, but hang in there! The health benefits waiting for you are worth it.
