Prior to a trip taken the previous weekend to do football practice on the campus of Ohio State, Kyle Berger (the Saint Ignatius linebacker) stated that he welcomed the prospect of receiving coaching from the staff at Ohio State football team. This took longer than many had hoped. However, the 205 pound, six foot three junior is another recruit for 2014 to give the Buckeye staff at Urban Meyer a verbal indication that he intends to join Kyle Trout and Marcelys Jones (offensive line prospects), Damon Webb (defensive back), Parris Campbell (running back), Sam Hubbard (S/ATH) and Dylan Thompson (DE).

Sam Hubbard Commits To Ohio State Football

Citing the experience as a "dream come true" via his Twitter account, four-star high school prospect Sam Hubbard gave a verbal commitment to join the Ohio State Football team in the fall season of 2014. The six and a half foot tall safety decided that he would de-commit from an offer to join Notre Dame's lacrosse team and enter into the Ohio State athletic program. A native of Cincinnati, the safety had an outstanding high school career. In his junior year, he accounted for eighty tackles in addition to two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Other teams hoping to land Sam Hubbard for their own football programs included Michigan, Louisville, Standford, and the University of Miami.

Dareian Watkins from Galion Ohio is rated as one of the best recruits for the upcoming 2014 class. Rivals.com has him rated as a 4 star recruit in their early national rating. He has offers from over 20 mid-west schools including Wisconsin, West Virginia, Purdue and Iowa. We recently discussed with him his college visit plans in addition to where teams stand with him over-all. He is yet to receive an offer from Urban Meyer and the Ohio State football program but has strong interest in the in-state program.

Ohio State was a little short in their numbers on the offensive line for their 2013 class so they went out right away and got local product Kyle Trout from Lancaster Ohio who is a national 250 Rivals recruit and should rank among the elite tackles in the 2014 class. The 6’6” 280 lbs. offensive lineman already had offers from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, and West Virginia. Ed Warinner and Luke Fickell were able to make contact early and close the deal this past weekend in Columbus.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have another wide receiver for their 2013 class and Desota Texas prospect Dontre Wilson is one of the best in the country. After Chip Kelley left for the NFL, a number of incoming Oregon recruits began to look around including Wilson who had considered Ohio State and Texas prior to his Duck commitment. A Rivals.com 100 member, he is the 6th best all-purpose running back for 2013 but will probably play slot receiver or kick returner as a freshman at Ohio State.

Webb is a 4-Star recruit according to Rivals.com and his school is considered a pipeline to the Michigan Wolverines, quite a get for the Buckeyes. He considers himself a solid commit for Urban Meyer although Michigan might continue to pursue him until signing day 2014. He also had offers from Michigan State, Illinois, and LSU.

He can also take the ball to the basket when needed. He had a lot of scholarship offers including Clemson, Marquette, Miami (FL), Rutgers and Wake Forest. Rated the 23rd best shooting guard in the country by Rivals.com, he recently receive an offer from Ohio State and committed for their upcoming class.

Nice little video from John Smyth of 2013 Ohio State commit Marc Loving from Toledo Ohio. The video has footage for a good number of games and shows Loving’s ability to get to the rim individually or after a missed layup of a teammate. The 6’8” power forward played AAU basketball with All-Ohio Red and had an offer from Xavier in addition to Ohio State. Considered the 11th best power forward in the country for the 2013 class, Loving will continue the great recruits that have played for the Buckeyes since Thad Matta took over the program.

The 6’2” 192lbs quarterback is also a punt return specialist as you will see in this nice highlight film. Not clocked at an elite speed, 4.53, he has the speed to get open and makes the moves needed in space to get past defenders. Joe Jones, a 6’4” 245 lbs defensive end from Hollywood Florida looks great in this highlight video. He is explosive off the line and his height creates trouble for passers looking to get the ball through a passing lane that he is close to. He can get into the backfield quickly and use his speed to take down ball carriers before they are able to get to the line of scrimmage. He is able to also wait for a pass play to develop and move into the best position to make a play once the quarterback makes a decision. Taivon Jacobs 2013 Ohio State Commit Highlights

In this extended video highlight real of Taivon Jacobs from GetitonDVD, Jacobs shows incredible speed in the open field and some nice moves to get pass defenders on kick returns. There are also some good returns on punts, a long pass completion for a touchdown, and some interceptions returned for scores. Ohio State recruited the 5’11” 165lbs Jacobs as a wide receiver for their 2013 class. Considered the 45th best receiver in the country by Rivals.com, he had offers from Florida State, Miami (FL), Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and West Virginia to name a few. College Football Betting Odds: Ohio State v Purdue

Pat Williams from Don Best previews the Ohio State Buckeye/Purdue Boilermaker game this weekend in Columbus. According to the analysts, Purdue allowed Wisconsin to run the ball like never before last weekend and Ohio State has one of the top 10 running offenses in the country. That is one reason that Ohio State is heavily favored in the noon matchup. The guys don’t believe that Purdue can fix their defense this year without a number of good line recruits coming in next year. They also go after the Ohio State defense being very critical of both Luke Fickell and Mike Vrabel. They feel both coaches were good players in their day but don’t have the ability to coach a solid defense. Williams really likes Carlos Hyde and feels that he is running with an edge since losing the starting position the last time Jordan Hall returned from injury.

If you are looking for stats on high school football, maybe this will help you. As of right now there are over one million football players in high schools. For the states that have the most number of players, Texas is in the lead followed by California and then Illinois. The states who had the most high school national titles are first Ohio, second, California, and third Texas. The states who have the most Heisman Trophy winners are first California, second Ohio, and third Pennsylvania and Texas. The hall of fame players by state are first Pennsylvania, second Texas, and third Ohio. These stats were done in July of 2012.

North Carolina defensive end Tyquan Lewis show his incredible speed and strength in this highlight video from his junior year. The 6’4” 225 lbs. 2013 recruit has the ability to get around the offensive tackle with his speed or push him back and get to the ball career.
