• Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer to see the changes.

Here is the Trick of how to create an emergency boot up Rescue Disk

Windows Xp doesn’t have no boot rescue disk as we know, but it has automated recovery disk

start->program->Accessories->System Tools->Backup

you will get the Backup or Restore wizard Click Next.

Click Restore Files and Settings, and then click Next.

In the What to Restore dialog box, select the media that contains the ASR backup. Ensure that the media is inserted.

Expand the Automated System Recovery Backup Set that corresponds to the ASR floppy disk that you want to create.

Expand the second instance of the drive letter that contains the system files. Expand the Windows_folder/Repair folder.

Click the following files from this repair folder: Asr.sif and Asrpnp.sif, and then click Next.(These two files are used during the ASR Restore Operation)

Click on ‘Advanced Mode’. This will show you Backup Utility Window.

Click ‘Automated System Recovery wizard’ button, you need to specify a destination where a backup of the system files can be made, once that is made, you will be prompted to insert a floppy disk.  The boot files will be transferred on to floppy (before that Format the Floppy). In case of a system failure, the backup and the boot floppy will help in starting the OS using recovery process .

Note: While doing rescue disks, remember that if your system crashes, you will also need to have the Windows installation CD for complete recovery of your OS.

This can be overcome in two ways,

1.Tools->Folder_>options->Filetypes and choose the appropriate program, but this file folder or folder in the list does not allow you to make necessary changes.  So go for the next method.

2. This method use registry to edit the file types

start->Run->Regedit

In the right pane go to the following

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell

In the right pane of the registry editor you will see a key with the name ‘Default’, if you have some problems in your system this key must have some other values.

Double click the ‘Default’ and change the value to ‘Open’ (just type open)

Click OK and close the registry editor.

Restart the computer or press[F5] a few times to refresh the desktop.

Try opening a folder, ‘Open’ should become the default option on a right-click

The Cure:

• Remove the cable or switch the modem OFF
• Prevent system to shutdown on its own

Start->Run->services.msc
or
Start->control panel ->Administrative Tools ->services

• Look for ‘Remote Procedure Call (RPC)’ and double click it.
• Click on ‘Recovery tab’ and choose ‘Take no action’ for the 1st, 2nd and Subsequent failures.

• After getting back to desktop again click start->run->(type)shutdown/c and ok
• Then run fixblast.exe file given here.
• Once that finishes, run the MS Patch which is relevant to your OS

These Problem of system restore is due to a missing or corrupted file in “system volume information” folder which is inside ‘Drive letter’

Just resolve this problem by following the rules given below.

1. If you’ve ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’ drives, you should start with drive ‘E’ first

2. Change the name of the ‘System Volume Information’ by right-clicking on the folder in drive ‘E’.

3. Then right-click on drive ’E’ (system volume information folder) and select the ‘Rename’ function.

4. change its name into ‘System Volumeinfo’

5. Do the same to the rest of the drives.

6. Then ‘Restart’ your computer, when system is started, delete all the ‘System Volumeinfo’ folders.

7. After the second restart, you will see ‘Mycomputer->properties’ again.  Now you see the ‘System Restore’ there and ready for use it again.

8. you can see the ‘system volume information’ new folder will create by default

If the problem is caused by some missing or damaged file n hard disk you can retrieve those files from the OS CD.  In windows 98 you could take it from the DOS menu or from some software’s from other manufacturer’s But windows XP provides you many files from the setup files.

You have to remember the name and location of the missing or corrupted file.

Start->Run->msconfig

Ensure the ‘General tab’ in the ‘system config utility’ window is opened.  At the lower right hand section, click the Expand File button to open Expand Window

Now type the name of the missing or corrupted file in ‘File Restore’ section then click the ‘CAB’ file from the windows xp setup CD at ‘Restore From’ and finally set the target folder at the ‘Save file in’ section.

Click ‘Expand’ to start the process, when the file is saved into the target folder, close the ‘Expand’ window, it is simple to fetch a file from the windows xp setup cd
