Nice blog Eric. I sometimes forget having lived here so long that we have such great assets in our county. Your other readers might like to know that Yorkshire is known as ‘Gods own county’, and you can see why from some of your photos!

At the very bottom center, just outside the city wall. There is a figure of a praying nun and the caption is, “St. Mary’s Convent.” I believe that in this case Mary might refer to Mary Ward. From the convent’s web site:
“The Community of nuns who still reside at the Bar Convent belong to the Congregation of Jesus which was founded by the Yorkshire woman, Mary Ward (1585-1645). The Bar Convent was established in 1686 by Frances Bedingfield, an early member of Mary Ward’s Institute”

I remember in 7th grade (1962) my social studies teacher told about her time visiting England (perhaps in the late 50s). She was sitting in a park and a British woman asked her, “Aren’t you afraid to live in America with all those wild Indians and cowboys running around?” The woman was serious! Too much TV!!

Eric and Andrea it’s your grandma! (and Chris as typist) We enjoyed looking at your apt, your neighborhood and it’s nice you are in such a good area. Must be lots of interesting things to do there.
Alan and Chris are visitng me right now having a good time. I just got your address from your mother and I’ll write to you soon. She even sent me a stamp to use! Are you going to come home with a British accent which will make you sound more sophisticated in some ways. Write to me if you have time.
