Essence Music Festival

This musical extravaganza was held at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans from July 3 to 5. Great names in Afro-American music performed on the main stage. July 3 saw the following performing:

Beyoncé’s ‘I Am … Sasha Fierce’ Tour

This was a great series of concerts performed by Beyoncé. The 22 performing days started on June 21 at New York’s Madison Square Garden and ended at NV Encore Theater, Las Vegas, on August 2, after a four-night stint at the same venue.

What made the tour memorable for Beyoncé’s fans was that she made 2000 seats available at all the venues for a very affordable $20!

Beyoncé, of course, needs no introduction. She is a song writer, actress, dancer, choreographer, model, record producer, and video director – a great piece of talent rolled into one! Beyoncé has sold over 75 million records to date, with 50 million of these as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child.

American Idols LIVE! Tour 2009

A series of concerts were performed by the top 10 contestants who participated in the 8th season of American Idol 2009. The tour took off from Portland, Oregon on July 5 and the last performance was held on September 15 at Verizon Wireless Arena, Manchester, New Hampshire. Two performances were held at Vancouver and Hamilton in Canada, as well.

Paul McCartney Summer Tour

Paul McCartney started his summer concert tour in the United States on July 17 at the Citi Field stadium, NYC and ended the successful tour at Cowboys stadium, Dallas, on August 19.

Initially there was a lot of uncertainty about the tour but it has been successful as far as Paul McCartney’s fans are concerned. Citi Field replaced the Shea Stadium which was demolished. Shea was where Beatles first performed on their first visit to the United States way back in 1965!

The Eminem/Mariah Carey/Nick Cannon feud is heating up.

In a new song called “The Warning,” the rapper calls Mariah and her husband, “America’s Got Talent” host Nick Cannon, a slew of profanities and claims to have “pictures” of the singer.

“You probably think since it’s been so long, if I had something on you I woulda did it by now,” he raps on the leaked track, adding he has “enough dirt on you to murder you.” [via: MSN BC]

While Mariah and Nick Cannon continue to assert that “Obsessed” isn’t about Eminem, Slim Shady wastes no time being coy. So why is this “The Warning” and not “The Attack”? Because despite how damning the song is, Eminem hints there’s much more for Mariah to be scared of than just a diss track. “Enough dirt on you to murder you, this is what the fuck I do. Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures,” Em raps. In true Eminem fashion, Marshall Mathers deprecates himself while attacking Carey, telling stories of premature ejaculation, dry humping, “trying to stick two CD’s in the same spot” and other personal details you’d usually expect from an unauthorized biography. Beastie Boys are an American group from New York City widely considered to be one of the most significant and influential hip hop and punk acts of their era. The band comprises Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “MCA” Yauch, and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz. Since around the time of the Hello Nasty album, the DJ for the group has been Michael “Mix Master Mike” Schwartz, who was first featured in the song “Three MC’s and One DJ”.

Beastie Boys began as a hardcore punk group in 1979, and appeared on the compilation cassette New York Thrash with Riot Fight and Beastie. They switched to hip-hop with the release of their 12″ single “Cooky Puss”, which was followed by a string of successful 12″ singles and their debut album Licensed to Ill (1986), which enjoyed international critical acclaim and commercial success. The group is well-known for its eclecticism, jocular and flippant attitude toward interviews and interviewers, obscure cultural references and kitschy lyrics, and for performing in outlandish matching suits.

They are one of the longest-lived hip-hop acts and continue to enjoy commercial and critical success in 2009, more than 20 years after the release of their debut album. On September 27, 2007, they were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On February 3, 2009, the group released a digitally remastered version of their second full-length album Paul’s Boutique for its 20th anniversary.

One of my favorites songs is Clocks and that’s the only song that I’m really crazy about the most. Cold Play knows how to really putout other great songs besides Clocks.

It may not transcend Parachutes, but this is a very decent sophomore effort. Sure it’s mopey; sure it’s resigned. That’s the whole point.

The Coldplay album to get if you’re only going to get one, but all of them are good. This isn’t as mellow or low-key as Parachutes.
