Our delivery/collection schedule operates on a week commencing basis, if you were to place an order today the following dates are the earliest your order would be available for delivery/collection.

Trussed rafter (roof truss) orders for delivery/collection on week commencing Monday 20th May and easi-joist® (Posi-Joist™, SpaceJoist™, Ecojoist®) orders for delivery/collection on week commencing Monday 20th May.

As always terms and conditions apply, the main one being that you have confirmed the sizes are correct and that your payment has cleared before an order can be manufactured and delivered. Payment can be made by one of the following methods:

Debit card (No surcharges) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)

Mastercard Personal - Credit card (surcharge of up to 2.09% applies) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)

Visa Personal - Credit card (surcharge of up to 2.09% applies) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)

Mastercard/Visa Business - Credit card (surcharge of up to 2.09% applies) in person or over the phone (Delivery usually around 5 working days)

Cash in person (Delivery usually around 5 working days)

Cheque through the post or in person (Can take 5 working days to clear so delivery is usually around 10 working days)

Bank transfer (Can take 3 working days to clear so delivery is usually around 5 working days)

The reason we apply a surcharge to credit card transactions is to cover the cost of the commission charges that we have to pay to our credit card terminal provider for those payments made by credit card. For example if a trussed rafter roof package costs £5000.00 and the commission charge is 2.09% we would have to pay the terminal company £104.50, for that one job it may not sound like a lot but when we are supplying hundreds of roof & floor packages that total soon adds up. It is for that reason that we recommend using other payment methods for which Customers are not charged for making payment by such as bank transfer, cheque or debit card.

You can place an enquiry using one of the methods below:

Today we updated our social media profile image, you can check it out in place on our Google+ page, Twitter stream, Facebook page and our Flickr photostream.

As you can see our old profile image was just our long rectangular logo (truss, joist and name) squashed and stretched to the specific sizes of each social media services profiles, which I think you will agree made for a cluttered image that didn't look great; so we were overdue for creating something much cleaner and better designed for the squarer proportions of social media profile images.

The new profile image is formed using the initials of our founders first names, Ernie and Harold, positioned so they touch forming a corner giving some perspective to the image and pointing to our founders surname positioned beneath and sized so it spans the full width of the initials E and H. As for colour, we chose to keep to our Bax blue roots and opted for a single colour logo which can be blue when used on a light background and white when used on a dark background.

Does this mean we will be ditching our existing truss, joist and name logo? In the short term no; we haven't made any decisions just yet and our existing logo is on our delivery vehicle, building signage, truss and joist production labels and most of our paperwork so would take time to change anyway.

Previously if we received an enquiry we had two options pass the enquiry on to the Wolf Systems design department so they could produce the design using the development version of the program or estimate the quotation by designing the joist to as close to the correct span and roof loads as required but with standard flat roof/floor ends which would give us an idea of the joist size and approximate cost, not ideal but it was the best we could do until now. With this latest version we can now produce accurate designs and quotations for pitched roof easi-joist, so what are you waiting for head over to our easi-joist enquiry form to request a quotation today.

Unfortunately since arriving in work today we have been experiencing problems with our electricity supply. Investigations by electricity northwest are underway and they currently estimate power should be restored by 5pm, just intime for closing.

During this power outage we are unable to use the computers or telephone system, any enquires during this time should be emailed to mail@eandhbaxendale.com or via one of online enquiry forms. We will then process them as soon as we can when power is restored.

Update: Friday 29th June 2012
So power was restored at 5am this morning meaning our computer systems, saws, truss and joist presses are all now functional again, however it seems that during yesterday's power problems equipment inside the BT cabinet over the road from us was damaged as today ourselves and our neighbours are unable to use our phone, fax, Internet, or card terminals. Who knows how long that's going to take BT to fix, in the mean time any enquiries should be sent via email to mail@eandhbaxendale.com or via our website enquiry forms and we will try and deal with them as fast as we can.

Update: Friday 13th July 2012
As mentioned in the previous update to this post our phone, fax and broadband connections have been out of service since part of the BT network between the telephone pole across the road from our office and the BT exchange a couple of streets away was damaged during the power problems, since then BT has been redirecting all phone calls to a mobile phone. We have been able to view some email on an iPad belonging to a member of staff but it is on the Vodafone network and we have a very poor signal at our office so we have been unable to download many if any email attachments, however BT have finally sent us a 3G broadband USB adapter that works on the 02 network so we can now view and download email on one of our desktop computers. So how long are these problems going to last? Well we don't know and BT aren't able to give us a proper answer but what we do know by browsing the county councils website is that roadworks are scheduled to take place this coming week so hopefully once they have removed the damaged cable and installed a new one we might get re-connected shortly afterwards, assuming that where they are digging is the only place the damage occurred.

Wolf Systems, manufacturer of the popular easi-joist metal-web system, has joined forces with insulation specialist, Thermal Economics, to develop a low-cost method of constructing Part E-compliant suspended timber floors.

The design, which incorporates a layer of Thermal Economics’ high performance Isorubber TF insulating material, is being developed as an alternative to Robust Detail E-FT3 for structural timber separating floors using metal-web joists. The proposed Robust Detail promises not just to be more economical than the existing one but will also offer significantly better performance in reducing sound transfer between dwellings.

Robust Detail E-FT3 is a design which is accepted as meeting the noise reduction requirements of Part E of the Building Regulations in timber framed buildings. Robust Details were introduced with the last revision of Part E to allow designers and builders to meet these stringent noise requirements without the need for every floor to be tested post-completion.

The new Wolf Systems/Thermal Economics design uses a 6mm layer of Isorubber to separate the OSB decking layer from the plasterboard intermediate layer. This thin sheet of Isorubber replaces the 75 mm x 45 mm softwood timber battens which feature in E-FT3.

This not only produces a shallower floor structure, but also saves a great deal of time in construction, says Wolf Systems’ Sales and Marketing Director, Karl Foster.

To install the battens, you first have to cut them to length then place them in rows along the floor and fill in the gaps between them with strips of insulating material. It’s very labour intensive and slow.

With Isorubber, you simply lay the material on top of the floor sub deck, followed by the plasterboard and finally your finished floor boarding. It’s much quicker and much easier, says Karl.

As well as being extensively tested in a laboratory, the IsoWolf system has already been successfully installed and tested on 24 plots across three different sites. All have significantly exceeded the requirements of Part E and shown improvement in sound reduction in comparison with the existing E-FT3 detail. This performance advantage enables specifiers using this detail to qualify for additional Code for Sustainable Homes credits. Wolf Systems is seeking one more site on which to test the system in order to achieve full Robust Detail approval.

If you have a development which could benefit from trialling the new easi-joist/Isorubber floor detail, or would like any further information, please call 02476 602303.

Wolf Systems, stand S1554, Ecobuild, London Excel, 20 - 22 March 2012.

At this year’s Ecobuild, Wolf Systems will be launching ground-breaking new software. After eighteen months of development, and using the latest technology, the software delivers new opportunities for manufacturers involved in timber engineering construction.

The new software, which will be demonstrated on the stand throughout the show, utilises Autodesk’s Revit platform and, for the first time, opens up the possibilities of collaborative BIM working for timber frame manufacturers.

Wolf Systems will also be exhibiting the company’s easi-joist metal-web product. Originally developed to facilitate the installation of services through the floor zone, Wolf Systems’ easi-joist is now often found employed in place of solid timber studs in the walls to timber frame systems; as well as in both flat and pitched roofing construction.

Both specifiers and building contractors are making increasing use of the engineered timber joists offered by Wolf Systems’ manufacturers for a wide variety of applications throughout the building structure.

Such are the spanning and load-bearing benefits of the highly engineered easi-joists – underpinned by the flexible Wolf design software – they can be incorporated into a selection of situations at any angle between the horizontal and vertical. In turn, imposed live or dead loads are supported and optimum performance from minimum material usage is ensured. The easi-joist beam, stud or rafter member also allows the building designer to accommodate increased levels of insulation into the project with ease.

Karl Foster of Wolf Systems comments: “As a metal web beam, easi-joist not only provides ample open area within its overall depth for the routing of pipes, cables and even ductwork, the installer is also provided with a wide flange area. This simplifies the fixing of sheet flooring panels or roof decking and sarking; with the finished assembly offering an extremely solid feel.”

Individual beams are now regularly assembled into panel or cassette modules, furthering the offsite potential of easi-joists, while offering a close fit with industry priorities for sustainable, defect-free approaches to construction.

All Wolf Systems’ products – which range from nailplates for trussed rafters, easi-joist metal-webs for its metal-web joist systems through to its structural design and management software – are developed, manufactured and supported in the UK.

So your planning a new build or even renovating an existing property on the Isle of Man and want the best for your roof and/or floor, well we can help with that. One of the services we provide is design and manufacturer of trussed rafters and easi-joist metal web floor joists on behalf of Builders Merchants. On the Isle of Man we provide this service to MFBP Building Supplies in Douglas and Island Timber & Building Materials Ltd in Ballasalla. (Contact details at bottom of this post)

So why not give them a call or pay them a visit with all the details about your project. They will then contact us, we will produce a design, and when requested manufacture your roof or floor, we will then ship your order to the docks, were MFBP or Island Timber will then take over and deliver your order to site.

If you don't want to go through one of our partners on the Isle of Man you can of course place you enquiry directly with us and we can arrange for an outside haulier to collect your order from our factory and deliver it to your site on the Isle of Man. Please note however that delivery costs to the Isle of Man are beyond our control and are set by the outside haulier.

One of the biggest projects on the Isle of Man that we have been involved with was for the Isle of Man Government in 2002, we designed and manufactured the roof's for the Southern Group Health Practice and the Ambulance Station both of which are located in Port Erin. Combined the two buildings consisted of well over 1000 trussed rafters, as well as additional infill timbers and metal fixings. The entire project took about 50 hours in total to manufacture, we broke it up into five phases which were manufactured and delivered over a period of a couple of weeks, mainly because the size of each delivery is restricted to allow it to fit on the ferry but also so that we could continue manufacturing for our other customers as well.

Today we have updated the easi-joist section of our website to combine most of the information onto just the main page, rather than having half a dozen, which should now make it easier to find the information you are looking for. To make room for all this information on just the one page we have introduced a new full width page template which has done away with the sidebar, which only contained our twitter feed anyway, so that's no great loss.

In the coming months Wolf System Ltd will be producing technical information regarding the use of easi-joist as a stud wall in timber frame construction, as soon as that is released I will add it to the easi-joist Walls section of the easi-joist page.

The one thing that everyone hopes to find is an easi-joist price list, unfortunately we are unable to produce one, that's because easi-joist is available in multiple lengths, widths, depths and internal web configurations, as well as with multiple end support conditions, so producing a list that is easy to read and understand is near impossible. It is for these reasons that we have put together an online easi-joist enquiry form, which will allow you to enter multiple joist lengths and quantities and once we have received it we will send you the quotation as soon as possible.
