EarnOverTheWeb was a project I started early in 2007. The goals were to get some practice at building and running a website, to introduce myself to the world of affiliate marketing and online promotion, to share my money-making methods with other like-minded individuals, and, of course, to earn money online. After months of almost-daily updates, things like school and other activities took priority and I began paying less attention to the site. By this point, my downline on many sites was relatively stable and expanding, and to this day I earn a small trickle of monthly income from the remanants. All in all the project took a lot of work and was enjoyable. Great Success!!

I will no longer be posting new content to the site. I will leave all previous content of the site intact for people interested in making money. Be aware that old content may not reflect the current status of any third-party websites.

This domain will be used to host my other projects.

Set and forget affiliate programs actually work??

Today, to my surprise, I received a $16 monthly check from Clixsense. I have been so busy that I haven’t visited the site in months, but it appears that through the magic of affiliate programs, my downline has grown to over one hundred users, and is still growing. Many sites claim that you can simply refer a few people and make an infinite profit without lifting a finger, but all to often this proves impossible. Clixsense is a site that actually pays through referrals up to five levels deep, including those who purchase ads. From now on, I’ll have a residual income flowing in through Clixsense without having to do anything. Granted, $16/month isn’t very much, but with a bit of time and work, you could refer a downline of effectively thousands. There are people who earn over $1000 a month through their downlines. For people who’ve never heard of Clixsense, it was one of the original paid-to-click websites on the net, and remains the most reputable and profitable.

The premise of the site is that for every 30-second visit you make to an advertiser’s site, they will pay you. ClixSense claims that they will pay you anywhere from $.01-5.00, but I haven’t personally seen any ads paying more than $.04, and these are few and far between. Despite this, Clixsense is a relatively good source of income if you have the time. Clixsense also pays for referrals, you get what they earn, as well as a bonus if they upgrade their account (which I highly recommend based on my own experience) or if they purchase advertising through clixsense.

They offer a service called ClixSense Premium, which gives you (for $10 a year) a much greater amount of ads and larger referral bonuses. This pays for itself in no time, since as soon as you become a premium member, you get about 350 available instead of around 30. With a bit of work referring, ClixSense becomes a great affiliate earnings site, as you get paid for referrals 5 levels deep. Clixsense allows you to track the sources of your referrals, so you can run different campaigns on different sites to see the success of each one.

Updates have been very sporadic lately. This is because I’m going through some really busy times as far as school and sports and life in general (hence even the brevity of this post). Posts will still be written on a rare basis, and the website should become fully operational in 2008 once college apps and IB exams have passed. Thanks for all of your support, readers.

Creative users submit video, flash, and perhaps still advertisements, and promote them to their peers. SoLow: Bid low and win

Many of you remember a while ago when I posted about a site called Bassabids. The premise of the site was that you pay $2 per bid to bid on items. Unlike a normal auction, the winner was the person with the lowest unique bid. Since Bassabids was quite successful, I’ve seen one or two other sites pop up based on the same system. The best that I’ve seen is SoLow.

Unlike other sites of its kind, SoLow has the majority of its auctions free to bid on. You do not need to buy bids or pay anything in order to bid in any auctions other than the premium auctions, which cost $0.99 per bid. There are a variety of prizes, from a best buy shopping spree to a trip to Chicago. SoLow lets each user bid 20x per day. All of the auctions are timed, so there is no specific bid quota each auction need fill.

Another thing that differentiates SoLow from its competition is the detailed response after bidding. Instead of bidding and receiving no other information other than confirmation, SoLow will tell you whether your bid is the lowest bid, how many uniques are lower, whether you’ve knocked any others out, and how many other have bid that amount. While this does mean that it takes more cutthroat bidding at the end rather than blind strategy or luck, it also means that you are not left hanging wondering how low your bid is. If you have a mobile, it will even text a range of 10c or so where the lowest unique bid is currently.

Apart from the bids themselves, you can earn Bid Bucks which can be exchanged at the shop for merchandise. These are pretty easy to rack up, active users will have enough to get swag pretty fast. There is also a monthly prize of $100, and whoever wins that has a 1 in 10,000 chance at $2,000,000. You get entries for each bid.

SoLow is a site that is very mobile-friendly. All bids can be texted to the site, and optional hints, updates, and auction results can be texted to you as well. They are affiliated with a site called SendMe, and recognize almost all mobile carriers.

View your website as a graph

Today I found a utility that allows one to view any website as a graph. This graph is based off of the html structure and page structure of the website. It has real physical properties that allow the app to expand fluidly show the hierarchy of tags and pages. These graphs can be simple, like the site itself:

They can be intrinsically complex, like Amazon.com’s:

These graphs, while pretty, can also show a lot about a site. Clean, methodical coding will create organized graph forms, while messy or busy coding will appear as a random organization of clusters. While not quantifiable, this utility can give site owners an alternate way to look at a site.

Xinu: Find all the statistics for any site

If you run a website like me, you’re always concerned with your statistics. There are many sites out there that will tell you a few things about your webpage, but this is usually limited to whois data, traffic, PageRank, and Alexa rank. Today I stumbled upon a site called Xinu [Returns].

Xinu was originally a tool on TechCrunch to check statistics about your website, but it was recently discontinued. Luckily, the source code was released, and the people at MovingLabs decided to host it up at a site called XinuReturns. Xinu is one of the most elaborate stats sites I have ever seen.

It does oh-so-much for your website. First, a screenshot of your page. It then diagnoses your page for common errors, and provides a few SEO tips. It provides information about your domain and hosting, and then of course, all the rankings. This is where many other sites stop.

Xinu then shows feed subscription statistics for various services. It has stats for almost all of the social bookmarking services (unfortunately no StumbleUpon data there). Xinu then passes your page through W3 code standard validations for CSS, XHTML, and RSS. Finally, it displays all indexed page stats and backlinks according to many different search engines/services.

All of this data is displayed neatly in the site’s interface, and you can also download a pdf of site statistics once it’s done processing. This PDF is en espanol, but most of the words are discernible for non spanish-speakers.

While there are a couple of mild kinks with the service (such as the translation issue), Xinu is an excellent tool to find any of the stats for a website all in one place.

Buzzback Survey Panel: Surveys that pay

Of all the earning opportunities reviewed on Earn Over The Web, survey-based panels are the highest paying ones. That’s why you need to know about Buzzback Survey Panel. I’ve been a member of the panel for about half a year and it is a reliable source of easy money for surveys. Once you’ve signed up for Buzzback, you will receive invites to surveys via email. They do not send out surveys as often as other companies; I find myself receiving perhaps 2-3 per month.

Buzzback Surveys sends you surveys you qualify for, so there is not really a need to worry about doing half a survey only to be disqualified like on some other panels.
