Google Voice+Gizmo+Fring = Free incoming and Outgoing calls

I was playing with Google Voice and was thinking how can i receive free calls, without AT&T, and i figured it out with the help of Fring(Push) i tried it with no SIM, on wifi and it worked.

Here are the steps
1)Register gizmo5.com,
2)Go to your profile (my.gizmo5.com) then in google voice (GV) section, add your GV number to it
3)Go to GV and click "Add another phone" and add your gizmo5 Number (747xxxxxxx).
4)Set forward to gizmo when called to GV number.
5)Go to Fring on iphone choose/add SIP account enter your gizmo username/password and Server: proxy01.sipphone.com (googled for this server, might work for other server too)

Thats it......

6)For outgoing call in fring, dial US number and click SIP, call will connect... your GV number will be displayed to other person.
7)For Incoming call, when some one calls your GV number it will forward it to ur gizmo number, and u can receive in Fring

It works for me, let me know if it works for you?

I had started using Gmail Mail Fetch when it was first launched, but quietly stopped using for 1 main reason i couldnt get mails from yahoo and hotmail, but two days back i tried yahoo and i could get yahoo mails :D

Spry - AJAX Made Simple

I have seen the word Spry a lot of times floating around when it came to Web 2.0. But slowly it is getting clearer that it helps in the development of Ajax.

Early in 2006, Adobe started releasing pre-release previews of Spry. Spry is an AJAX framework, a simplified way to make the power of AJAX available to the masses.

So this helps CF developers and they don't need to be nerd in JavaScript rather they can use Spry framework and its JavaScript components.

There are three main components to Spry: XML Datasets, Widgets, and Effects. XML Datasets are, as the name implies, datasets based on an XML document. Widgets are a combination of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS that provide some form of advanced functionality in a self-contained block of code. Effects are simply that, effects that can be applied to HTML elements in a page.

Spry also leverages the Google XPath library to facilitate parsing the retrieved XML document into easily accessible datasets. Currently, Spry is still in pre-release status. Adobe's intention with Spry is to make AJAX easy and accessible for Web designers who have little or no JavaScript experience.

It will be an integral part of the next release of Dreamweaver. Something that Adobe didn't count on was that one of its existing user communities would latch on to this framework so quickly: the ColdFusion community.

Microsoft to open source some of Silverlight

Microsoft will release the source code to part of its Silverlight technology at MIX 07 this week, according to sources familiar with the company's plans.

Sources said Microsoft will also release a beta of Silverlight, a recently unveiled browser plug-in that allows websites to offer video and interactive media interfaces. The technology uses Vista's new graphics framework, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), and Microsoft is promoting it as a direct competitor to Adobe's Flash.

Specifics on which aspect of Silverlight will be open-sourced were not available, and Microsoft's public relations firm declined to comment.

The final version of Microsoft's Expression toolset for building rich Internet applications (RIAs) also may make an appearance at MIX 07, according to sources, though Microsoft has two more months to work on the tool according to its schedule. The company has said Expression, another product it hopes will woo RIA designers away from Adobe, will be available before the end of June.

Microsoft is pitting Expression as an alternative to Adobe's recently released Creative Suite 3, and the toolset is also key to Silverlight because the company hopes designers will use it to create applications to be delivered through Silverlight.

Microsoft's rather unconventional move to embrace the open source community could be a response to Adobe's announcement last week that it will open-source the SDK for its Flex RIA development environment by the end of the year.

Russian craft delivery to India delayed

New Delhi: Russia will not be able to deliver the refitted aircraft carrier Gorshokov next year as scheduled.

The delivery has now been pushed to 2010 and it's going to cost $113 million extra.

This cost is over and above the $ 1 billion that India is paying for its refit and upgrade.

The delay is apparently because Russian builders underestimated the length of cabling required - it's not 700 km but 2,400 km, they have told the Indian Navy.

Naval Headquarters is sending a senior officer to Moscow to assess the situation.

The Navy's only other carrier the Viraat was due to be retired from service in 2012.

To start admissions or not? Arjun keeps IIMs guessing

New Delhi: The suspense over whether the Indian Institutes of Management will be allowed to start admissions may end soon.

The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs will meet in Delhi on Wednesday evening to decide whether 27 percent quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) should be implemented next year and the IIMs allowed to start admissions without the new quota.

Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh on Wednesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to decide if the list of candidates selected for IIMs this year can be released.

Before the meeting, Singh said that there was a "qualitative change" in the situation following Supreme Court advancing the hearing on the quota issue by three months.

20 light years away, the most Earthlike planet yet

The most enticing property yet found outside our solar system is about 20 light years away in the constellation Libra, according to a team of European astronomers.

The astronomers said Tuesday that they had discovered a planet five times as massive as the Earth orbiting a dim red star known as Gliese 581.

It is the smallest of the 200 or so planets that are known to exist outside of our solar system, the extrasolar, or exo-, planets. It orbits its home star within the so-called habitable zone where surface water, the staff of life, could exist if other conditions are right, said Stéphane Udry of the Geneva Observatory.

"We are at the right place for that," said Udry, the lead author of a paper describing the discovery, which has been submitted to the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

Tom Clancy's 'EndWar' is unveiled

The best-selling Tom Clancy action series is to undergo a major change after Ubisoft revealed it will publish a strategy game with online multiplay as the next title in the franchise.

Tom Clancy's EndWar will be set on the battlefields of World War III and will be released by the end of March 2008 on next-generation consoles.

Described as "a revolutionary war strategy game", the publisher claims it, "will push the standards of technology, showcasing artificial intelligence, graphics, physics and animations that were not possible prior to the launch of the new hardware systems".

Little is yet known about the game, but Ubisoft are pushing it as "the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand".

Collectively, the Tom Clancy video game series has now sold more than 45 million copies worldwide.

BlackBerry coming to Windows Mobile

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) this week released a software suite that allows mobile devices running Windows Mobile 6 to become virtual BlackBerrys and use applications that made BlackBerry a mobility gold standard.

The virtual BlackBerry solution lets devices from third-party manufacturers use widely popular BlackBerry software applications and services. The suite, which will be available later this year, has been slated to run on select Windows Mobile 6-based devices.

Once the suite is installed on the device, users will be able to access BlackBerry applications that include email, phone, calendar, address book, tasks, memos, browser, instant messaging and other applications once exclusive to the BlackBerry platform. Devices running the software will also be able to connect to BlackBerry services via BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and BlackBerry Internet Service.

RIM president and co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said the software brings BlackBerry functionality to the masses and plays into RIM's idea of shaking the stigma of being a mostly proprietary platform.

Yahoo's Better (But Imperfect) Lyrics Database

Most online databases of music lyrics are illegal--they reproduce copyrighted without payment. Worth than that, they're bad. Oftentimes, when I look up a song--usually by plugging a snippet of it into Google--I'm led to sloppy transcriptions that are rife with gibberish of the 'Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy ilk.

Today, Yahoo Music has added a legit lyrics database--licensed from music data kingpin Gracenote--and while it's not the lyrics resource of my dreams, it's certainly a step in the right direction.

Booby-Traps Hide in Google Sponsored Links

Roger Thompson of Exploit Security Labs posted today about finding poisoned Google sponsored links that surreptitiously direct searchers through malicious sites that attempt to surreptitiously install malware on your PC.

According to Thompson, if you ran a Google search for "BetterBusinessBureau" from April 10 through about 11am EST this morning, you'd have stood a one in three chance of seeing a top sponsored link with green link text that read www.bbb.org - just like the real search result. If you clicked that sponsored link, you'd even end up at the regular BBB site as per normal.

But before you got to the bbb.org site, you'd invisibly pass through a malicious site that would try to exploit an Internet Explorer browser hole. The site wouldn't have shown up in your browser, and you wouldn't have had any way of knowing about the redirection ahead of time. Unlike with real search results, you don't see the destination URL if you pass your mouse over a Google sponsored link.
