The concept of PC security has changed in recent years and it is no longer limited in installing an antivirus or firewall. Now-a-days a computer needs to be well equipped to fight against viruses, spywares, Trojans, key-loggers as well as other security breaches. So if you are planning to buy a new PC or thinking of doing a fresh OS installation, then this is the article which will cater to all your security related queries. Now we can witness a changing trend mainly in security software vendors as they are mainly focusing on the concept of total security or Internet security rather than individual antivirus or firewall. All most all vendors like Symantec, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, AVG, AVAST are offering their excellence at a very affordable price rate. You also have the option for choosing a free antivirus and firewall altogether which will serve your purpose. AVAST, AVG, PANDA CLOUD, IMMUNET PROTECT are just the few names in this long queue. But before having them, just do a little research and check VB100 certificate and their current virus detection ratings which are easily available online.

Along with a good antivirus you also need to think for a good firewall which will able to control all your traffics and keep an eye on incoming and outgoing data. Most modern firewalls will able to take decisions automatically and provide an ease during net surfing, online transaction and lots more. Not only firewalls, you have to clean your pc regularly mainly to delete Temporary internet files or rather known as junk files. Registry file clearing software, disk defragmenter tools and other system care softwares will help to boost your pc speed drastically. There are lots of free system care softwares like Advance system care, Ccleaner or ARO 2012 etc. will serve your purpose. But most importantly, always update your OS, softwares as well as drivers as this updates are very crucial to save you from fresh cyber attacks.

The Internet has truly transformed shopping as we know it. Online shopping has made visiting your favorite stores even easier. It is extremely convenient and cost effective because you can compare prices among several stores.

But like many great things in life, online shopping does have setbacks. As easy as it is to shop, it is just as easy to have your personal information stolen online. Online shopping is a thief’s playground due to the abundance of personal financial information that is required to complete a purchase. Protect your identity when you’re shopping online by adhering to the following rules and tips.

Only Shop Where You Know

Unfamiliar, unpopular sites are usually not the safest. Try to only shop at trusted websites that you know or have heard of such as Target.com or Amazon.com. Also, beware of misspellings or URL’s using “.net” instead of “.com”. This is one of the most common ways that thieves and scammers trick shoppers. Remember: You wouldn’t hand someone you didn’t trust or know your credit card so don’t do that online either.

Make Sure You See the Lock

A small tip that some shoppers may not know about is the way to spot a secure ecommerce website in seconds. Secure websites start with “https://” instead of “http://.” There should also be a small lock icon in the lower right corner of the website.

Don’t Give Personal Financial Info through Email

Never give anyone your credit card information or any other personal final information through email. Use secure programs such as PayPal to make purchases or payments.

Watch Out For Too Many Personal Questions

Although there are numerous questions that must be answered in order to verify your identity online, there are certain questions that point to a scam. Never share too much. If a store asks for your social security number or birthday, do not give them your financial information. Always give the least amount of personal information possible.

Check Billing Statements

Get into the habit of checking your bank accounts frequently. If you see any bank activity that you do not recognize, address the matter immediately. Don’t pay credit card bills until you know all your charges are accurate. You have 30 days to notify the bank or card issuer of problems so be sure to contact your bank immediately.

Passwords Are There For a Reason

The process of needing passwords to log into your online accounts was put in place to help you stay secure. While is it common that people use passwords that can be remembered easily, be sure that thieves cannot figure them out easily as you can. If your password has any of the following you should change them immediately to make yourself thief-proof.

It uses numbers or letters in the order they appear on the keyboard (“1234″ or “qwerty”)

It’s the name of your kids, pet, favorite team, or city of birth

It’s your birthday, anniversary, date of graduation, or car license plate number

It’s “letmein,” or, especially, “password.”

Enroll in an Identity Theft Protection Service

With today’s technological advances there are several services that you can enroll in to actively monitor your personal information. Having a company guard your personal information is a great second line of defense against identity theft. These companies will immediately alert you if anything seems out of the ordinary.

Having your identity stolen is costly and frustrating, but it can be prevented. Prepare for the worst to ensure your information remains safe.

WordPress platform is quite popular among bloggers. However, this blogging platform is vulnerable to various kinds of hacks and attacks. These attacks lead to site infections, los of content and rankings. Here are 4 main ways your site gets infected:

1. FTP or Shell credentials got compromised if you login through unsecured connection, through WiFi or your PC is infected. If you detect malware on your PC and your passwords were stored in FTP client, change them on each service after the cleanup.

2. Web server or FTP server bugs allow execution of downloaded code. This should be handled by your server administrator.

3. WordPress passwords are recovered using brute force attacks. If your password is guessed, hacker can cause a lot of problems, e.g. edit your posts, add links to malicious sites, etc. To prevent such attacks you should limit your IP address for WordPress panel, use special security plug-ins. Your database administration panel and shell passwords are vulnerable to brute force cracking too.

4. WordPress theme and plug-in are easy vulnerable. Some of the plug-ins were coded without thinking of security issues, e.g. plug-in for uploaded content like images or media. Infected plug-ins distribute various malware, like Security Shield rogue antivirus. These attacks are especially dangerous to your visitors. Our advice here is to use only the minimum plug-in required for site to operate and keep them up to date.

It is recommended monitoring your site periodically paying special attention to the 4 points listed above. It will assist you in preventing attacks or at least detecting them during their early stages.

In a few days time the Olympic Games will be kicking off in the London. The spectacle will unite the world’s nations to compete in a range of athletic tournaments and sporting games which will then broadcasted around the world.

From a technical point of the view hosting the games is a mammoth challenge. The organisation committee has given the technical team a budget of £500,000,000 to run the games, so far this has bought 165,00 fixed telephones, 80,000 fixed and 1,000 wireless internet accesses points, 700 servers, 1000 net books and a whopping 4.500 KM of Ethernet, electrical and fibre-optic cabling.

Although the technical team have been granted a wealth of budget, they haven’t been innovative in their spending, in fact they won’t be using any software or hardware developed or produced since 2010 due to the lack of real-time testing. It seems like they’re playing a safe hand. BT (British Telecom’s) has been given the task of organising the network and infrastructure of the huge event which will run from a multitude of locations across the British Isles.

Over the last three years BT has erected a village of communication systems outside the Olympic park; this is will be the technical headquarters of the Olympic Games. This location will enable voice, data and mobile transmissions and most importantly collect the scoring data which will be collated in real-time and added to BBC’s scoring API. Real time statistics and analytical data on all events in the tournament will be available 24 hours a day’s via the BBC website or on red button or on-demand TV Services.

The BBC will be broadcasted the spectacle. The British Broadcasting Cooperation are industry leaders in broadcasting events, news, programmes and other such visual medias. The last Olympic Games in Sydney (Australia) only 250 hours of games where shown on terrestrial TV. In London 2012 The BBC plans to capture 4,500 hours of Olympic events and broadcast them to the world via the internet, radio and generic visual Medias.

As far as the sporting events are concerned there hasn’t been any huge technical advancements, however Omega will now be using their incredibly accurate quantum timer that’s accurate to one Millionth of a second. With regards to track and field events the firing sound from the starting pistol will now electronically sound directly behind each athlete to avoid complaints on about how the sound from the gun may take a longer time to reach the runners ear who’s positioned the other side of the track.

The running blocks on sprinting and running events have been amended to test for pressure rather than movement; this gives a much clearer indication when a runner may have started falsely.

A new sensory system has been added to the socks of martial art athletes, such as those who par-take part in Taekwondo and karate as scoring system is based on the amount of times contact is made.

In multiple locations around London the BBC have installed 3 400 Inch cinema screens which will be showing the key events of the games in ultra-HD which is a new technology that’s meant to be x16 clearer than the normal high definition.

The biggest technical advancement of the games however isn’t organised by the Olympic committee, it is instead an operation sponsored by EDF energy which will light up the London eye during the 2 week period of the Olympic Games. During this time the London eye will illuminate green or yellow depending on the amount of tweets that mention the Olympics hastag. The Algorithm which controls the colours of the eye isn’t only controlled by the amount of tweets, but is it also takes into consideration the tone or mood of the tweets. For example, if a large amount of tweets that mention the Olympics are of a negative nature then the London eye will glow red, signifying that the consensus of viewers watching the event are unhappy of the outcome of a sporting event.

What do you think? Why do people love iPhone? Have you got many reasons? Ok let’s analyze.

Can you remember the first phones that we were using? In everybody’s imagination they are printed as dark colored phones, with no screens and with a large quantity of keys. Gradually, the screens became larger, but still with the same keys. We were using them for only one reason- to call and to get calls and sometimes messages. But I do not dare argue that children sometimes played “snake” and it was fun. The horrible thing was that we didn’t even have access to the internet.

It was first the apple corporation that gave solution to this problem and created a smartphone with no keys and with a large screen that had numerous apps and interesting features. Since 2007 the younger generation has been striving to get the best smartphone in the world, and believe me, it has its reasons.

The first and foremost reason is that you do not already need to have a computer with you to have access to the internet and, what is much more important, to the social networking giants as Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. As life has become more social, people like to share everything with their friends as soon as they get it. Now they don’t have to wait to sit in front of the computer and upload it all. They may just do it right from their iPhones. This process will take you no more than two minutes and, you see? You can always be online even wirelessly.

The next thing that is also relevant is the great amount of apps that the iPhones contain.
NO one had the slightest idea that after such a short period of time we would have the chance to control our lives only with the help of our phones. IPhone really had an irreplaceable influence on the mobile application market. Especially the apps that were presented on the iPhone 4S astonished everybody. Almost 200 apps and all of them are new. The iPhone was the first to make the video call FaceTime available everywhere and the voice control Siri reachable to all of us. With all these features we may now easily learn what is going on around the world and next to us.

So after these facts, can you argue and say that don’t like iPhone?

Who says children and cameras can’t mix? Sure, the cheesy poses and those ‘rabbit ears’ (two little fingers innocently posed behind someone else’s head) seem to magically appear on cue at the first sight of a camera. But, with these few basic tips, you can make photographing your kids stress-free and fun, and eliminate the dreaded bunny ears in your family photos once and for all.

Choose the best time to photograph – Children and toddlers especially, are notorious for having little patience and an attention span to match. It’s best to take candid photos while they are in their element – whether it be playing at the park, reading a book or running amuck with a pet. If you insist on a posed photograph, keep it short and sweet and don’t be afraid to use treats or toys as incentive (bribe, schmibe). Babies are much easier to photograph, since they literally (!) cannot escape from you. The best time to shoot babies is straight after a feed or just after they have awoken from a slumber and are happy and content.

Get down to their level – The best photographs of kids are often taken when the photographer is shooting at eye-level. This style captures your children as they are and how they see the world. Moreover, this more personal and intimate approach is far more effective than having the child look up into the camera.

Natural light is right – The general rule is that you always end up with better photos in natural light. Not only do the photographs just look nicer, but it also avoids the much-hated red eyes as well as that washed out look that tends to occur when using the flash on your digital camera. Try experimenting with light – move around furniture if you are indoors or get the kids to go and play outside in different places to find the best lighting for you.

Make it fun! After all, taking photographs of your children shouldn’t be a chore. Get them to do activities they love (singing, dancing around, telling jokes etc). This is when you can capture their most authentic and genuine selves in photographic form. And with a digital camera, don’t be afraid to take hundreds (if not thousands) of shots – after all, you can delete the ones you don’t like afterwards. Also, get them involved in the project by showing them the photos as you take them, asking them for their feedback.

Curtis Jones can’t go anywhere without his digital camera in one hand and his trusty reflector

Mobile wallets or payment applications that store credit or bank card information for point-of-service payment processing speed, ease and convenience are quite popular among mobile handset users. With one tap of the smartphone or tablet, consumers avoid losing credit cards, exposing the cards to credit theft and having to carry cash. How prevalent is this technology, where might it be headed, and is it as safe as it’s purported to be?

NFC Technology

Near Field Communications or NFC technology was developed only a few years ago, and mobile phone users embraced it with just as much enthusiasm as ice cream on a hot summer day. NFC technology is based on Bluetooth proximity and stores credit card information, just as a wallet does the actual credit card.

When the mobile user downloads or activates the app, he programs his credit card or cards, annotates which is primary and uses the app to purchase merchandise from participating retailers. Starbucks, Inc., was one of the first national chains to incorporate the technology, and they reported tremendous customer satisfaction with it.

The users activate the loaded app, and after the purchase items are scanned into the cash register computer, the users simply tap their mobile phones to the bar code scanner that reads the electronic payment information. If funds for the purchase are available, the payment is automatically debited from that card’s available balance, the user takes the receipt and walks away with the purchased item.

Overall, both retailers and consumers have fully enjoyed the convenience and reduced wait times because of the quick process the technology engages. However, as technology advances, so do hackers capability.

Google Wallet leaked credit card information to receiving units last year and allegedly resulted in hundreds of thousands of fraudulent purchases from fake, duplicate electronic cards. Google quickly sent a patch to its Wallet users, and that largest but not sole instance hasn’t slowed progress at all.

Growing Trend

ABI Research estimates that by 2016 approximately 85 percent of all retail terminals will incorporate NFC technology that allows “m-pay” or mobile payments.

Square, a mobile payment processing app, processes $6 billion annually, growing steadily since its inception in 2009.

PayPal, the world’s largest online payment processing organization, purchased by eBay last year, is about to unleash PayPal Here, an NFC app that debits directly from the mobile phone user’s PayPal account. PayPal has over 110 million users worldwide and processes more than $118 trillion in online payments annually.

Three major banks, Capital One Finance Corp., J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and Barclays, all of whom comprise the three top credit card issuers in the world, all have their NFC technology either in the works or already in use.

Placecast just announced on June 27th their ShopAlerts Wallet that can not only process payments but also send shopping alerts on sales and discounts on programmed ‘watch’ items. Placecast is exploring the possibility of selling its platform directly to retailers, credit card companies and carriers. Placecast boasts that on small, regional scales through UK mobile provider O2 and the US mall’s DDR, their service already boasted 10 million users who opted in to receive offers. Its from that base that Placecast is considering the m-pay roll-out offers.

Concerns

Using Google Wallet as only one example, concerns circle wagons around security and financial management techniques. Not all retail systems recognize the credit logo on debit card processing, and the escalation of transaction fees can mount quickly. The Bluetooth-type of technology might theoretically broadcast the electronic card information, though most systems use highly encrypted logarithms and other security measures.

In a debt-ridden world, will m-pay popularity ring in a no-cash age, or will it backfire toward careless financial management from the ease and convenience of mobile phone use?
