Staff members from The Et Cetera, Eastfield College's student newspaper, have enjoyed the most successful year in school history. Student editors won the school's first Pacemaker award, the top prize in collegiate journalism; cartoonist Cody Richeson was named the national Cartoonist of the Year; and the newspaper also captured 45 state awards.

Eastfield College Department of Theater in cooperation with Company of Rowlett Performers (CORP) presents “Miracle on 34th St” a play from the novel by Valentine Davies on December 1-3 and December 8-10. The show will be at 7:30 p.m. in Eastfield's Performance Hall. This production of “Miracle of 34th Street” is directed by Donna Covington, CORP Artistic and Technical Director, with a set designed by Lori Honeycutt, Eastfield Theater Tech, and Blayze Carter, Eastfield student. Costume Design is by Dusty Reasons, Eastfield Theatre Program Coordinator.

Eastfield College Baseball Team Receives Championship Rings

Although the Texas Rangers didn't bring home the World Series pennant, the Dallas area already has a World Series winner. The Eastfield College Harvesters, who won the NJCAA 2011 National Championship earlier this year, received their championship rings on October 27.

Eastfield College Hosts Up and Coming Nashville Artist

Eastfield College Office of Student Life is sponsoring a free concert featuring Nashville artist Natalie Stovall on November 8 at 12:30 in the Performance Hall. Natalie was born and raised just outside of Nashville, TN. Since her first professional gig singing and playing the fiddle at the age of 10, Natalie has already seen things that most artists could only dream of. She's performed everywhere from Oprah to the Grand Ole Opry. She was the first performer ever to be invited to sing "God Bless America" for the President at the White House Press Correspondents Dinner. And surprisingly, she has done all of this with no record deal of any kind.

Coming from Mountain View College, where she successfully built a new choral program to serve the students and campus, Imthurn will be the new Choral Director and a private voice instructor. She was educated in vocal pedagogy and choral techniques at Texas Woman's University in Denton.

Wind Turbine to be used as a Teaching Tool at Eastfield College

On August 27, the latest addition to the Alternative/Sustainable Energy program offered at Eastfield College became a reality with the installation of a 50-foot wind turbine. The 3.5 kw wind turbine will be used for instructional purposes, but the turbine is also tied into the college's electrical system through a connection in the Technology (T) Building. When the turbine is not being used for instruction the electricity produced will flow back into the Eastfield system and help power the T Building. The turbine is located on the west side of the T Building on the Eastfield campus, at the intersection of the new Dan Sundermann Drive and Eastfield Parkway.

Eastfield College Chooses "Life is So Good" for College Wide Project

Eastfield College has chosen "Life is So Good" by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman as its 2011 Common Book. The Common Book Project is a college-wide, interdisciplinary project that aims to enrich the college experience of students, faculty, and staff in a common intellectual experience-- the reading and discussing of a common book. The book, selected by a 9-1 vote by a committee of faculty, staff, and students, will be integrated into more than 175 sections of classes in an array of disciplines, discussed in a variety of programs, and forms the basis for exhibits and performances. The key influencing factors for choosing this particular book were subject matter, relevance to our students and many potential themes.

Automotive Technology T-TEN Program Gets High Marks

The Eastfield College Automotive Technology Department recently completed a validation process conducted by the Toyota Technician Education Network (T-TEN). Two years ago the Eastfield T-TEN Program joined forces with a consortium of six other T-TEN schools across the nation to address local dealer concerns and suggestions for improvement. The Validation process is the culmination of this project to develop a student learning outcomes based curriculum and develop operational processes to better serve AUMT students and supporting dealerships in the area.
