May I know how you used to download photos from Facebook one by one or at once? As there's no "bulk download" or "download complete album" options in facebook so you obviously go through one by one. Microsoft showed off number of features of the new Operating System at Build conference. Features such as the Metro interface, support for touchscreens, improved performance, Internet explorer 10 and its support to USB 3.0 and Hyper-V received huge applause from the audience.

Windows 8 boots up in less than eight seconds.

Windows 8 introduces a new Metro style interface called the "Metro UI" which has been borrowed from the company's mobile operating system. The interface is a personalized layout with clean typography and animations.

The new interface is built for touch. The new Start screen puts all of your apps in front of you for immediate access. You don’t have to remember where things are. And whether you want to type, click, or swipe, Windows 8 is optimized for easier navigation so moving around the operating system is effortless with either a finger, or a mouse and keyboard.

Windows 8 will also for the first time support ARM-based chips apart from Intel's x86 platform.

And Metro style Internet Explorer 10 provides a fast and fluid touch-first browsing experience that’s all about your sites, making them feel increasingly more app-like. With faster performance, leading security protection, more hardware acceleration, and site-ready HTML5 support, IE10 continues to allow developers to build a richer and more beautiful web.

Apart from this Microsoft has also announced an online apps store called the Windows Store. Allowing developers to built Metro-style apps and Make money through in-app purchases.

According to Microsoft's Windows division head, Steven Sinofsky, Windows 8 offers the most comprehensive OS upgrade since Windows 95.

Microsoft says it is “reinventing the OS” with Windows 8.

Google in association with ITA launches flight search portal

Back on April 8th, 2011 Google acquired ITA software, a travel industry software company in Cambridge, Massachusetts for $700 million dollars and the US Department of Justice approved the buyout. Though Google officially closed the acquisition. The deal was being investigated as potentially being anti-competitive to the online travel search industry, as ITA’s software is used by many of Google’s rivals in travel search including Microsoft, Kayak, and Expedia. Today Google in association with ITA software launched a flight search portal, Google Travel.

Google's new flight search portal :

The interface is clean, whenever we go online to book a ticket we generally enter the from and to, later we enter the specific date of travel and return journey and then we click on search to display results. But here in Google's new flight search portal the interface is cool and clear. As you enter the 'from' and 'to' the results starts appearing in the same window. Then we can filter the results as per our schedule and fare.

And the integrated Google maps in the flight search lets users to zoom in and search places near by.

Currently the flight search is limited to only selected group of US cities. Google previously rolled out a flight search feature, letting user to find out quickly which airlines serve that specific route and when they fly.

And the portal doesn’t feature one-way or multi-city fares. For now, travel search just focuses on flights but it should be interesting to see if Google will add hotels, and more as Kayak does to the search site.

Kayak also developed an app for Android, iOS and Blackberry. So we expect the same from Google "an app for all mobile platforms".

Twitter to launch Hindi services

Good news for twitter fans in India as the micro-blogging site is all set to launch its services in Hindi in the coming weeks.

Twitter, which came into existence five years ago, now boasts of 100 million active users worldwide.

"After launching Hindi, Filipino, Malay and Simplified and Traditional Chinese in the coming weeks, Twitter will support 17 different languages," according to a company blog.

Both Twitter and social networking site Facebook have huge following in India. Among others, Facebook already offers its services in Hindi and five other Indian languages -- Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, Telugu and Bengali.

Going by estimates, Twitter has around 200 million registered users.

"For many, getting the most out of Twitter isn't only about tweeting: 40 per cent of our active users simply sign in to listen to what's happening in their world... Our 100 million active users range from passionate early adopters to recent converts," the blog dated September 8 said.

The micro-blogging site allows users to send messages, with a maximum of 140 characters.

Global leaders, film personalities, journalists and sports people, including Indian cricketers, are among the diverse Twitter users.

According to Twitter, 35 global heads of state such as Australia's Julia Gillard and Argentina's Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, use the site.

"More than 40 per cent of the top global religious leaders are on Twitter, including @DalaiLama and the Pope...," the blog noted.

It said reporters share stories and photo from the front lines on Twitter.

"Ordinary citizens break news and give us a view we might otherwise miss, like the now-famous Space Shuttle image that was re-tweeted over 2,300 times, and the first photo of the US Airways plane that landed in the Hudson River in 2009," the blog said.

Telecom services provider Reliance Communications on Friday launched a special Triple Dhamaka Festival offer for its 3G customers, offering triple data download for the cost of a single plan.

Under the scheme, pre-paid customers can download 75 MB of data for Rs.20 (valid for a day) or 1.5 GB for Rs.408 (valid for a month), said a company release.

Post-paid customers can download 300 MB for Rs.100 or 1.5 GB for Rs.399 (both valid for a month).

The offer is available in all the 333 towns of the 13 3G circles of the company. Customers can subscribe to it through R World, retail outlets, or SMS.

“To let people enjoy the festive season we have decided to spread the good cheer by offering the Triple Dhamaka to our valued customers. Blogger today official released an app for iPhone and iPod. So here after the Apple smartphone users never wait for anything as they hear a news they just start writing post and publish it on the go. The apps user interface is clean and was so elegantly designed that all the key buttons like Compose, Publish , Save, Insert Image, Take a picture, Settings etc are aligned at top and bottom of the screen.

Now Download entire Google Apps data with Backupify's Snapshot tool

Backupify, the leading backup provider for cloud based data, currently offering an all-in-one archiving, search and restore service for the world's most popular online services including Google Apps, Facebook, Twitter and more.

Backupify has launched a new tool called Snapshot for Google Apps (but hasn't announced it officially) that will allow companies to download all the data associated with their Google Apps account to their local hard disk in single ZIP file format.

This is especially helpful when a company bowing to certain policies had to keep their ex-employee data for several years. This situation is really expensive for companies with lots of employee turnover.

“At our core, Backupify is a data liberation company. We want to help IT departments manage and control their data in the cloud, and Backupify Snapshot is another tool in that cloud data management toolkit.” says Backupify CEO - Rob May.

The IT departments are left with three choices when a Google apps user leaves the company :

Delete the account and erase the data
Manually download all of the individual data items (messages, docs, contacts ,etc) and then delete the account
Pay $50/year to keep the suspended account active and keep the data available

and Backupify found a perfect solution for this by developing a Snapshot tool.

Backupify reported:

One company we recently spoke with currently has (and is paying for) 300 Google Apps accounts - 60 of which are inactive. At a cost of $50 per account per year, that’s $3000 they are paying for unused accounts, simply because there is no reasonable way to extract that data.

For companies that already use Backupify to backup their Google Apps data, they can request a full backup and bulk download of a single account that has already been backed up, but they have to wait for Backupify to handle the request. With Snapshot, which is available in the Google Apps Marketplace, Backupify is turning this into a self-serve process.

Companies that want to try Snapshot can get their first account download for free. After that, it costs $10 per download. Backupify is betting that most IT departments and small businesses will likely pay the 10 bucks to download the full download instead of paying $50 (each year) to keep the account alive. So you have already saved your business $40 per account!

An important thing to note about the ZIP file that Snapshot creates is that it contains backup files converted into the following usable formats:

Gmail messages = Mbox
Google Docs = Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint 2003
Calendar = iCalendar
Contacts = vCard
Sites = Zipped HTML + included images and files

Backupify Snapshot will launch as a public beta. The app is already available in Apps Marketplace and the site is live. The official announcement will be coming soon.

Now backup voice data using Google Takeout

Google yesterday added Google voice to its data export service, Google Takeout. Google has announced regarding the inclusion of Google Voice in Takeout months back itself. Keeping the word, Google announced in a blog post that now users can Export their stored data associated with the Google Voice account Via Google Takeout.

"This means that all of the data associated with your Google Voice account, from your call history to voicemail messages, greetings and call recordings, is now available for download. Voicemail messages and greetings are exported as mp3s, text messages as microformatted html, and forwarding phone numbers as a vcard." said by Google Software Engineer, Anthony Jawad.

Google Takeout :
Google setup a team of software engineers called the Data Liberation Front in 2007, tasking it with adding export capabilities to a variety of Google products. Google Docs got the treatment in 2009 itself, and in July of this year the Google+ social network was added to the new Google Takeout project, which lets users export data from a variety of Google services at once, rather than having to do it separately.

Downloading Data from Google Docs :

Google Docs > Login > Select all Files > Click "Actions" button > Download. As shown in the below image a window pops up asking you to choose "the way you wish to download".

Where as coming to Google Takeout, the newly added Google Voice appears on the home screen itself. What all you need to do is just select the services which you would like to export and click archive button, now all your data will be imported to your Google Takeout account. Then click the download button to download the data associated with your selected accounts to your local hard disk.

iChromy : A chrome like browser for iPad from Diigo

Yeah, browsing on iChromy lets you feel as if your are browsing on Google Chrome. As we all know that Google didn't developed the Chrome iPad version and probably they wont. So Chrome users are left with Safari on the iOS. But there's an option for Chrome users - Diigo Browser (formerly iChromy) a chrome like browser for iPad. The Diigo browser has done a pretty good job by copying the chrome interface and also included its cloud based service (Diigo) by setting its default features right next to the omni bar.

We can say that this browser is just a clone of Google chrome. So we get the Omni-bar, which plays a dual role as an address/search box. Besides the Omni-bar there are three buttons ( bookmarks, offline reading lists and sharing).Using the Sharing option we can share our content on Facebook, Twitter, Diigo, Tumblr, Pinboard, Google Reader, Instapaper and Email.

We also get tabbed browsing,which is limitless and we can easily open and close tabs.We can even neatly swipe all the tabs from the tab pane but unfortunately we cannot switch tabs. Browsing speeds are pretty top notch but again thanks to Apple's stubbornness we don't get any Adobe Flash.

All in all, it's a no frills, bare bones experience but the one feature we miss a lot is a built-in download manager. Pinch to zoom works perfectly but other than that we don't get any multi-touch magic similar to the iCab Web browser but it is not a free app.
