Koffeecake Corner

Okay here is the thing, if you like chocolate chip cookies with big chunks of chocolate and pieces of walnuts then you will like Little Brown. If you prefer them warm, then you will love this cookie. WOW! These cookies are actually housed in a warming drawer, a glass top - see through warming drawer. It gives me goose-bumps thinking about the chocolate, butter and nuts touching my palate. SO GOOD!
http://bit.ly/HsxWIA

Ditch Plains

There is something delicious about ordering a dessert in a restaurant where you have to wait for it to be cooked. It could mean, fresh? An odd concept I know, but we wait for our savory dishes (sin mexican). Ditch Plains has a Brownie baked in a Cast Iron Skillet, a personal skillet that is. It is about the size of a mini personal pizza, but tastes so much better. The batter is actually spooned into the skillet, then the skillet is placed in the oven and baked for about 15 minutes. 15 minutes provides you with the two best parts of a brownie, the crunchy side and the crunchy top layer covering the gooey fudge on the inside. Think heated brownie batter. It is certainly a dessert that should be shared with a least three hungry people.
bit.ly/ditchplainswv
Good Enough To Eat on the Upper West Side has enough fresh sweets to make you salivate into overtime. My last count was 6 pies, 5 cakes and fruit squares galore. Inside their treasure chest of desserts on display lives an apple pie. This is not an ordinary apple pie, yet a Sour Cream and Walnut Apple Pie. A Sour Cream and Walnut Apple Pie that puts other kinds in this city to shame. My slice was loaded with apples and walnuts and topped with the mother of all crumbles. When was the last time your crumble was the size of a medium gum ball? When?? They did not skimp on the crumble and as a matter of fact they did not skimp on anything here. It is a hefty slice of pie with a rather hefty, but worth it price. $8 a slice for a pie screaming to be shared. $8 well spent ladies and gents. Well spent!
bit.ly/GoodToEat
Soft Serve Fruit Co.

I would like to take a moment to rejoice. Rejoice to enjoying a soft serve frozen treat with fruit and no dairy. No more lactaid folks!! (well for this treat) Soft Serve Fruit Co. has four flavors, Banana, Apple, Pumpkin and Strawberry. Each is packed full of fruit because it actually is fruit. The ingredients are fruit, water and sugar... oh and love. They take the fruit, puree it and blend in the water and sugar. Once frozen it's served like soft serve ice cream. If you are watching what you eat they have nutrition facts in the store.
bit.ly/softservefruit

Donna Bell's Bake Shop has the traditional fare, cupcakes, cookies and a banana pudding. They have a little lemon square, the kind of lemon square that will not make your face pucker. It has just the right amount of tartness, the right amount of powdered sugar all on top of a crunchy butter crust. Ah, the perfect lemon square.
bit.ly/donnabells
The smore has homemade mashmallow, which is toasted and served with chocolate ice cream on top of his version of a graham cracker. Only this cracker is not a cracker, yet a thin cake. He always has an interesting twist on nostalgic favorites. If you are not a fan of shell fish, you still should stop in and try one of his tasty treats.
ORIGINAL Post Fall 2010: Peanut Butter and Jelly is no longer just a sandwich. At Flex Mussels, Zac Young is able to transpose PB&J into a delicious before or after dinner treat. It's an adult PB&J. An incredible warm brownie (which stays warm from beginning to end) is served under a perfect portion of Peanut Butter Cheesecake and topped with Grape Gel (sauce if you will). Take a bite and let the grape cascade down the side to be enjoyed to the last bite. If there is still room, try his Doughnuts, perfectly cooked and warm. I dare you not to smile.
http://bit.ly/bGKTae

Get it while it's hot outside! Who knew that ice could taste so sweet and delicious! Imperial Woodpecker gives NY a new meaning to the word snowball. It's shaved ice served in containers we might only be used to seeing in Chinese restaurants. The ice is topped with a flavored syrup of your choice, in fact there are over 20 different flavors of syrup to choose from. The larger the size the more flavors you can choose. For a mind blowing sweet treat, top it with sweetened condense milk. I recommend the Mardi Gras King Cake, but don't worry there is no baby to bite into with this cake.
bit.ly/imperialwoodpecker
When it is topped with hot fudge you have what I'd consider a bit of sex on a plate. I apologize, if you have Pistachio Semifreddo topped with hot fudge while it sits on a creme fraiche brownie, then you have sex on a plate. There are pistachio's in every bite, if you love pistachio's like I do then you'll be a happy person. The semifreddo appears in front of your eyes naked, but patience will tell you that a wondrous silver cream pourer will soon follow and it's filled with the rich chocolate hot fudge. Cue eyes roll in back of your head.
bit.ly/theredcat

Mast Brothers Chocolate - Brooklyn

The Mast Brothers have been creating their chocolate for us to enjoy for a while and we thank them! For those of you who do not know chocolate outside Hersey's aka wax then I invite you to be edgumucated. Their plain chocolate has about two ingredients (love aside), cacao and cane sugar. Most if not all bars are dark chocolate around 72% cacao. They call it craft chocolate and if done perfectly (like theirs) then you need not add other ingredients. There is two whole ingredients, not even the most delicious cake in world can claim that! It is quite an interesting story, they source ingredients from premiere organic establishments. You can where it was sourced from on each bar. While they do cost more than your average chocolate bar, everything is made by hand. This also includes most of their packaging, which is designed by family and friends. If you are so lucky you can watch then wrap each bar by hand, but hand I say. You know you are close when you begining to smell the chocolate permeating out the door. Take a big whiff!
bit.ly/mastbrotherschocolate

Lady M Cake Boutique - UES

A delicious confectionary environment that is. Each cake is elegantly displayed for your viewing pleasure, but no touching because there is a large glass panel separating you from the cake. It gives the cakes a museum or jewelry store feel. Behind the glass lives some tasty, fairly priced treats. Their signature is the Lady M Mille Crepe. Many, many layers of light crepes hugging a creamy custard. The ladies in my office LOVED it. The desserts look rich and heavy, but they are surprising light. Light, like their Green Tea Cake. Moist Green Tea Cake, Green Tea Mousse and lightly topped with Green Tea Frosting. It is a special place for sure.

http://bit.ly/nzc1jg
