Have you decided what computer platform you want to use?
The illustration will show you somehow to pick the best platform that will suit your taste, I think this would not just apply to those who wants to buy a new computer.

The most popular and widely used kind of computer in the planet is the Windows PC from Microsoft, that I’m currently using right now. Setting up a new Windows PC in the illustration is true with all the bloatware from the manufacturer, you don’t need it all. Reformatting and installing a fresh version of Windows will solve the problem, expect the increase in performance without the bloatware. By that time you can start working if the hardware can support your computing needs.

I haven’t tried a Mac computer so I’m not sure about this, but I really wanted to have one in the future if I can afford it’s high prices. The things I know about this piece of machine is the quality of hardware that surely would last for a long time and the performance can handle critical computing needs. If I’ll be using this for video editing probably it needs more juices of RAM, in the illustration adding third party RAM is not necessary if the computing requirements is not that high.

Setting up a Linux PC in the illustration looks to be the easiest having only 3 steps buy a Linux laptop, start working and trim neckbeard. I don’t agree with this, choosing my favorite Linux distribution would be the first step which is missing in this illustration. Most of the time the Linux flavor installed is out of my preferred distribution so still it really needs to be reformatted, of course this is base on my on experience.

Hope this gave you something to consider before buying a computer, with all this choices you can settle to be the best. I find this the illustration to be funny in the way of comparing the 3 PC platform, indeed some might be true to others but not for me. if you find the comic small you see the full size image also a big thanks to Brad Colbow, the creator of this great illustration.

The thing that reminds me about Vietnam was the war with the United States of America during the 1970′s and I like watching all about it. I also want to know more about Vietnam’s culture and of course their cuisine. I tried one Vietnamese restaurant in Los Banos that was way back years and the closed shop or maybe transferred somewhere.

On my way home tonight I noticed a new restaurant in Halang, Calamba named Pho Hanoi, sounds Vietnamese with the name right? Yes! with a closer look at the sign, indeed it is. Only few customers are dining around 8pm, they just opened for business for about a week now according to one nice guy that seems to be the restaurant owner.

I took the pleasure to ask their bestseller and it’s also named Pho Hanoi, a white noodle soup in a large bowl that for me is too big that I can’t eat all of it. It’s my first time to eat a Vietnamese noodle soup and find it very tasty with a twist of spices like the meat leaves, the white noodles is also new to me, softer than other I’ve tried. A red chili sauce and “patis” will add to your own desired “timpla” I should say a must try. Here are some choices on their menu.

If you want to experience a different than the usual restaurant you may consider giving it a try without going to Manila or should say in Vietnam. I took the photos using a mobile phone so excuse the quality of this.

The 50mm lens doesn’t offer much flexibility in shooting even it can auto focus. I prefer using the 105mm.

Skype has been the favorite instant messenger for millions of desktop users for years and it is now catching up fast to become the preferred choice of Android users. Ever since Microsoft purchased Skype, they have released numerous updates to address issues in the existing application as well as to add new features to enhance user experience. The latest offering in this series of updates is Skype 2.6 for Android. It is packed with fresh and intuitive features and is definitely good news for Android users.

The file sending feature is considered a must for an instant messenger. Many Skype for Android users have complained in the past about the absence of the file sharing feature, which the PC version of Skype has offered for years. The Skype 2.6 update, although being termed as a minor update, adds this long desired feature. Users now have the ability to send files, be it videos, photos or documents to family and friends, all for free. File sharing can be done via your device’s Wi-Fi connection or through your device’s data connection. This feature should now cover all the file sending needs of the users, for which they would have used numerous applications in the past. Also, there would not be any need to send files individually through SMS or an email. It also supports video calling service for different android devices.

Apart from the major feature of file sharing being offered to the users, Skype 2.6 for Android has many other new things to offer. The code for the application has been enhanced to provide a perked up video quality for tablets as well as for phones which are equipped with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor such as high-end smartphones or Android Honeycomb tablets. This is definitely good news for many users including the ones who own the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. Skype 2.6 also adds official support for the Motorola Droid Razr and the HTC Amaze 4G. Skype is also working up hard to bring support for video calling to almost all the phones running Android 2.2+. Skype 2.6 has also been enhanced to provide an improved battery usage. Other minor improvements include bug fixes, fix for the white screen on some devices when Skype is launched from the recent applications list, voice mail improvements, new graphics, a fix for video orientation on Galaxy Nexus, capability for auto-sign in and fixes for startup issues on Android 2.1.

As far as the availability of Skype 2.6 is concerned, it is available as a free download in the Android market. The package size is reported to be around 12 megabytes. It is recommended that the users should update their previous versions to this latest one.
Skype has always been a frontrunner as an instant messenger and with this new and improved latest update, the number of downloads are only expected to go higher. Skype 2.6 will definitely contribute to a richer and smoother user experience.

The mobile network war is over between this two, after the long battle of unlimited services. Smart Communications and Sun Cellular is now taking a great leap in mobile services which is very beneficial to the consumers. This can be the perfect gift this Christmas with all the savings SmartSun offers.

Get the unlimited texts for both networks for only P549 a month, you also get 2 hours of call to Smart and 4 hours of calls to Sun. The DUAL PLAN 549 comes with a FREE Dual SIM mobile Phone, a Nokia C203 that has dual access. No need to worry about the interconnection charges between this two, just text all the way you want.

I’m a Sun Cellular subscriber and my contract would end next year on the month of April, a great offer that makes me think of getting a dual SIM mobile phone again. Sad to say this is a limited Christmas edition only, so grab it Smart Stores and Sun Shops

After the latest update of Woo Framework to version 4 the thumbnails are not working properly, in some way distorted. I haven’t done any posts last week, I’ve been trying to fix the thumbnail issues. I noticed the thumbnail distortion to my previous post and I have to replace it, WordPress generated a new thumbnail and its working great.

Using the FREE Skeptical theme from Woo Themes for a long time so updating the Woo Framework is something to look forward with security and feature enhancement. Thought it was a good practice to update everything, not at all really when things like this happened. Now I got it fixed so I can start posting but I will tell you first how I got it working.

Played with the settings in the theme options from the image resizer and timthumb plugin with no results. I then downloaded the latest version of the theme from WooThemes with the framework version 4 but still the thumbnail issue is not fix. Luckily I got an old version with Woo Framework 3 and it’s working now. Woo Themes does not offer support for the free themes, just hope that they found a solution for this.

I haven’t done any product reviews but there are a lot of inquiries about this promising mobile phone so here’s the hands on review of the Samsung Galaxy Y Young GT- S5360 or Galaxy Young. Just weeks after the release in the Philippines last October 15, I ditched my old Samsung Punch and got this Android smart phone. I will list it in order base on my preferences.

Design
This is a matter of preference on the form factor, the candy bar like design can suit both gender. Unlike some designs that are too rounded, I find it more suited for the ladies. The silver black casing adds elegance and the textures hides the quality of plastic material. It also protects the back from scratches.

Display and Performance
The small screen size of 3.0” 256K capacitive TFT Display at 240 x 320 pixels, the quality is just like an upgrade to my Samsung Punch while other galaxy models like Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Mini has brighter, clear and crispier graphic displays. The 832 MHz processor is good enough to power this phone, sliding apps with ease though sometimes takes time to load if lot of applications are open.

Applications
The Android Marketplace has 300,000 apps to choose from both with free and paid apps. The fastest and easiest way to download applications is by using the handset connected to the internet though Wi-Fi. In case you’re charging the phone you can download using a desktop computer or laptop and the applications will be downloaded later. A Gmail account is needed to access the Android market.

Battery
One thing I don’t like smartphones is the battery life, this is an exception if you use a lot of applications and still running in the background. It only last for me for a day, with some internet browsing and games. I’m a Sun Cellular user so I make a lot of long phone calls. Installing an application named Juice Defender will somehow help increase the battery life. Kill unwanted running applications in the background with its built in task manager.

Audio
I found the audio a bit unpowered unlike other phones that has a crisp sound even during loud speaker mode. Listening to music using earphones is the next best thing with its 5.1 surrounds sound support. Glad that it has a 3.5mm audio jack and not the USB type.

Camera
Equipped with 2 megapixels and 15fps video recording, it has a decent quality photos and videos good for posting in social networks but not for print. Low light performance did not meet any of my expectations. Some samples are taken during sunny days except the candles and the Chowking food chain .

Ergonomics

This is a small phone so if you have big hands, you have to get used to it. The virtual keyboard is also really small; I found it hard to type even with the swype feature. But the small size perfectly fits on my pocket.

Price
I’ve been looking for a cheap android phone for a long time here in the Philippines then this came and the first thing that catches my attention was the price. It’s an entry level phone, reasonably priced at P5990 but there’s a forecast that the prices will go up since this is only an introductory price. The current market price is not bad at all for an android smart phone with a descent specs. As the nickname says, it’s intended for the young people who want a galaxy series phone that can fit their budget. I can’t find any demo unit at the time of writing.

The screen protector is hard to find at this time, what I did is cut off the sides of the screen protector intended for the iPhone just to fit. But I did regret it later when the sides started to peel off. I’ve been waiting for the call of the store for the free art wraps, still no sms receive yet.

Having all those features and of course the price, its worth to have this as your first Android phone.

Some Android phone users are getting some difficulty accessing the free version of Facebook for mobile. I’ve been using Samsung Punch for Facebook zero on a Sun Cellular network, and am not getting any problems aside from the slow connection of course.

Now that I got the new Samsung Galaxy Y Young that is running on Android, I also got some problems connecting to Facebook zero. I don’t know if anyone has done this, I accessed the mobile site using the this URL m.facebook.com and its working fine but it I know that it will cost me for the data charges. Then I add a number zero after the m and it worked, so I’m sharing this to you guys if your having the same issues. Here is the URL for reference and to avoid confusion.

m.0.facebook.com

This would probably work on any Android smart phones like iPhone using a browser, it won’t work using the Facebook app for Android. Although it connect using Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) of Sun Cellular, Smart subscribers can also try this out.

As I log in to my gmail account just by now, I was greeted with this notification what a big surprise. Just like having Google buzz in the first place that I am not aware of. The service is on the way of shutting it down. Why? I’ve read some news that it has legal issues for invasion of privacy. This is one thing I don’t like about Google, creating products then all of a sudden it will be discontinued.

In a few weeks we’ll be retiring Google Buzz. At that time you won’t be able to create any new posts, but your existing content will remain accessible in two ways:

You can view it on your Google Profile

You can download it using Google Takeout

Thank you for using Google Buzz.

They got good products like the email service Gmail, I find better than the other competitors. I’m just hoping now that it will continue to serve me in the lifetime.
