I recently discovered Chris Kyle after his wife lost the court case to Jesse Ventura. Since I did not know much about the man, I decided the book would be a great way for us to get acquainted. This book gives you an insiders view into the war in Iraq. We discover how important it is to be well trained and professional especially when at war. Chris was one of the deadliest snipers in American history, feared by his enemies and praised by fellow Navy SEALs.

American Sniper is the autobiography of SEAL Chief Chris Kyle. He has over 150 confirmed kills and at the time of writing this review, he is the current record holder in the history of the US Army. Although this statistic has never been made official by the Pentagon. This book covers his 10 year career as a Navy SEAL including his many tours in Iraq from the year 1999 to 2009. He was also involved in missions in other parts of the world.

The book is written in first-person and also talks about how he left his life in Texas as rodeo cowboy to become one of the most feared expert marksman. This is the first book I have read that gives an in depth look into the often very hush hush Special Ops world. We are taken on a thrilling ride as we explore the life of Seal Sniper, who is also very committed to the rest of his team. There is no doubt that Chris really loves his job. However as far as his personal life is concerned he himself was fully aware that he was not the best husband or dad.

Who Is Chris Kyle? He was a US Navy SEAL Team 3 chief who served his country during the Iraq war, in which he went on at least four tours. He was awarded many citations including two Silver Stars and five Bronze Valor Starts. This book is his official memoir and it will soon be turned into a blockbuster movie. Before he was tragically shot at a shooting range in 2013, he lived in Texas with his family and children. Scott McEwen is he co-author and he currently lives in San Diego, California where he practices law as a trial attorney.

I love how American Sniper was written in conversational style. As you read it you feel like you are sitting down with Chris, having a drink while he shares his experiences at war. His honesty is very refreshing, and that had me captivated. He does not just share one story, instead you will find a collection of stories being told throughout this book. There is a lot of information on SEALs, snipers and their training, not just the positive stuff but the negative stuff too.

When it comes to his family, once again Chris is very open and honest about his personal relationships. He talks about the issues and problems he had and sacrifices that had to be made, revealing another side of our service men that is never really talked about. The addition of a few sections from his wife Taya, also help us the readers understand what military wives have to go through while their husbands are on active duty.

I did find that some areas were very broad. For example he talks about his career but the details on the actual shots he took as as sniper or any his interactions with his targets are vague. There are also some sections were Chris seems to get overly political and other sections were the pace of the book slows down. The writing could also have been a little better, but since this is meant to be a memoir written in his voice, I did not pay too much attention to the actual writing as I read the book.

In conclusion American Sniper is an amazing story of patriotism and heroism. May God bless the family that Chris Kyle left behind as we are all very grateful for his sacrifice and service for the country. This book is a quick read, but the story is very interesting and down to earth. At times the language may seem a little harsh, but he uses that to put across important messages that should be heard by all of us. It was really refreshing to read a book like this, one that is not sugar coated. Thank you Chris for writing this book from your heart. May your soul rest in peace. This one is a must read for every American citizen.Read More Reviews Here…

I have found more often than not, when you read these Young Adult trilogies the second book usually turns out to not be as interesting as the other two. However, I was pleasantly surprised with Insurgent by Veronica Roth. She was able to not only keep the story flowing without skipping a a single beat but also develop a stronger storyline. You are sucked in right from the first words which quote the Candor Manifesto, right to the very last page of the book. It is indeed the perfect companion to Divergent, which is the first book in this riveting trilogy.

Insurgent begins right were the first book left off. There is a lot more action within the first section of the book as you are taken to the different compounds of each faction. Veronica shows us how each of these different factions go about their daily lives. You get everything from scenes which expose Tris’ power to others which are horrific like the section that covers the execution of one of the leaders. In all of this Tris has to continue on her journey to save herself and her loved ones, whilst at the same time struggling with issues related to grief, her identity, loyalty, love, forgiveness and love.

As usual with Veronica, her world building skills are just amazing. You should not just expect intensified action in this book. There is also secrets revealed, some danger, a lot more romance and the inevitable betrayals. Tris is allowed to grow as she works through her issues, emerging at the end of the book much stronger character wise. Those that do not belong to any factions are featured more whilst the other characters are developed even further. This book will answer a lot of your questions from the previous one, but at the same time leaves you with even more questions for the last one. There are a few unexpected twists and revelations that will definitely shock you.

Who is Veronica Roth? She was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. Veronica attended Northwestern University where she studied creative writing. She currently still resides in the windy city, Chicago with her husband. Insurgent is her second published book.

I love how even though the world Tris lives in, is a crazy world Veronica was able to write it so that it still is very believable. Her writing has actually evolved from that of the first book. Both the character building and the storyline have a lot more substance, and this will make you want to keep reading the book. Sometimes she uses very strong words which make her storytelling very intense. As far as the relationship between the two main characters Tris and Four is concerned, this book exposes their feelings towards each other way better than the first one.

I felt like the tone of this novel is darker and heavier than the first. The first half ends up being very repetitive as the inner feelings of Tris are narrated. There is an incredible amount of lamenting and whining, which could have been covered in fewer pages. I also did not enjoy how she is always rebellious and thinks that she is always right. I do not understand why she included so many different serums in the story, it starts to get a little bit confusing for the reader. The middle section of this novel also drags on a little longer than it should, slowing down the pace of the story.

Insurgent is the perfect follow up or second novel in the Divergent trilogy. This well written novel will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. It is action packed, funny, smart and even philosophical at times. The language is simple, maybe a little too simple at times but that helps make the book a quick read. The revelation that occurs in the last section and the cliffhanger at the end will have you impatiently waiting to read the last book in the series. I am not ashamed to admit that, I am now addicted to this series and that I will be diving into Allegiant immediately.

‘Heaven is for Real’ by Todd Burpo was introduced to me when my pastor spoke about it in church. He spoke about how before reading it he was very skeptical about reading yet another ‘going to heaven’ book. However, he was surprised after reading it to find out how simple and heartwarming this book actually is. I got my copy on Amazon and agree one hundred percent with my pastor.

‘Heaven is for Real’ is based on a true story of a four year old boy from Nebraska named Colton, who has to undergo life saving surgery. During the procedure he lost consciousness and found himself in Heaven. Colton survives the surgery and then shocks his family by revealing that he had visited heaven. He describes what he saw, who he saw and also who he met including his great grandfather who passed away almost 30 years before he was born.

The book is mostly narrated by Todd Burpo, who is not only Colton’s dad but also the minister of a church in this small town. The revelations from his journey to Heaven where not made all at once but the family allowed him to slowly reveal things over a period of about seven years. Todd Burpo also co-authors the book. Colton discloses some very interesting details about God, Jesus and even the Holy Spirit.

Who is Todd Burpo? He volunteers as a fireman and is the current pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan. He is married to Sonja and they have three children Cassie, Colton and Colby.

Who is Lynn Vincent? She has published over ten books including two New York Times best-sellers Heaven Is for Real and Same Kind of Different As Me. She began her writing career in the year 2006 and sine then has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. Lynn is also a U.S. Navy veteran and before becoming a best selling author she was the editor at WORLD magazine for eleven years.

What I loved about this story was the sense of humility that was evident within the narration. No one ever forces Colton to tell his story, but they all let him do so when he feels ready. His dad Todd is a realistic down to earth person, who has a great personality. This helps the reader relate to him and also makes it way easier to believe in what he writes.

They did not have to add any cross references to the Bible, but I personally was happy that they did that. The family does, like any other family have their own ups and downs. I found it interesting that the sections of the book that described Heaven were very concise and clear. Often I would find myself taking a short break to just reflect on what I would have just read.

I must admit though that there were a few times, even as a Christian I was left questioning if Heaven was really like that. It maybe because most of us already have a predisposed view of what Heaven is really like. I also noticed that at some point within the book Colton switched from describing what he saw to predicting what we commonly refer to, as Armageddon.

Heaven is for Real is a story for everyone. All the questions and thoughts you may have had on Heaven are covered in this interesting and fascinating book. There are a few times within the book that the pace slows down, to allow you to really grasp the feeling of the events described. It does not matter whether you believe in Heaven or not this is a very thought provoking book. This is a great story that will uplift you, especially if you are one of those people that need are questioning the basic meaning of life. Read More Reviews Here…

When I ordered the The Hungry Girl Diet book and started reading it, I was pleasantly surprised! Now you no longer have to be hungry when you diet, you can eat all the foods you love. This is why I do not consider this a diet. Which diet have you heard of that allows you to eat large portions? Unlike other diet plans, this one is not intimidating nor does it require you to drastically change your lifestyle. Welcome to the wonderful world of easy to follow affordable recipes, that anyone can enjoy. Lisa takes you by the hand guiding you step by step, day by day and week by week.

The Hungry Girl Diet book is essentially a detailed plan to help you lose up to 10 pounds in just four weeks. This particular diet is based on an increased intake of proteins, vegetables as well as fruits. The plan cuts back on carbs but encourages eating small amounts of healthy fats too. The best part, which most people love is being able to eat large potions, so you are never hungry. There are 60 recipes included, each with detailed descriptions and basic nutritional values. These recipes cover all your daily meals from breakfast, lunch, dinner and even the snacks too.

The diet itself is 4 week program. Each chapter of the book is dedicated to a full week with a separate page for different days of the program. There is a daily menu plan available for each day with helpful hints, shortcuts, tips for saving money and food swap ideas. There are at least three different choices available for each meal. This allows a certain degree of flexibility within the structured program. Every item on the menus can be referenced back by page number to a different recipe within the book. The center of the book has full color photographs of some of the dishes. The end of the book has a resource section, a master shopping list as well as tips on how to maintain your weight loss after having completed the four week plan.

Who is Lisa Lillien? She is a New York Times bestselling author and the founder of the widely popular Hungry Girl brand. She also launched the hungry-girl.com website, which delivers an entertaining and informative daily email to people from all corners of the world. Lisa is not a nutritionist, she is just passionate about her food and has learnt a lot just from being hungry.

I love that the recipes in the book are easy to cook and can even be adjusted to cater for families. Although Lisa is not a registered dietitian, she had one supervise the writing of the book. If you are like me, and you always forget to drink water, this book has reminders strategically placed throughout. The color codes in the last section of the book are a godsend, you can find the information you need easily and faster. This is not one of those diets that requires you to spend a lot of money on the food, the menu items are inexpensive and readily available at any local grocery store.

If you happen to be on another weight loss program, let say Weight Watchers for example, you can incorporate this plan into other programs. For those that have ingredients they do not particularly like in the shopping list, you can always replace them with other ingredients. I really enjoy Lisa’s approach to her program, she is one of those people who practice what they preach. There is a smartphone app that is available with the book which is very handy and creates shopping lists that you can refer to, whilst in the grocery store. Forget about having boring meals, Lisa provides many great ideas and ingenious suggestions for different combinations.

I noticed that there is not much information provided on the philosophy or the science behind this weight loss plan. It basically just jumps straight into the plan, without really explaining why or how it works. The focus is on the recipes, which makes it more a cookbook than an actual diet plan. Some long time Hungry Girl subscribers, may find that a lot of previously released information has been repeated in this book. Also the first week has very little in terms of menu options, compared to week two to four. The majority of the menus will need you to put in a little extra prep work everyday, before you can prepare the meals.

Overall, The Hungry Girl Diet is an easy to follow, delicious and super effective plan. Before the book was published, she had her staff test the effectiveness of the program and many reported losing at least 10 pounds within the prescribed four weeks. You do not have to make too many sacrifices as far as taste, portions and time invested in the program. Lisa strives to make eating a fun, tasty and healthy experience. This book is well written and organized, all the information you need is easily accessible. You will never be hungry, but amazingly you will still shed those unwanted pounds. There is absolutely no guess work, just follow the detailed directions and kiss at least 10 pounds goodbye. A practical and down to earth program, that makes you healthier.Read More Reviews Here…

Rush Revere and the First Patriots is the second book in the series. It is very difficult to believe that these books target kids between the ages of 10 and and 13. The sequel is just as thrilling as the first book and does an excellent job restoring the accuracy to long lost or manipulated American history. Rush Limbaugh has absolutely no political agenda with these books, he just loves his country and its exciting history.

Rush Revere and the First Patriots sets out to tell the story of the First Patriots and focuses on the events that lead to the American Revolution. Most of the events in the book are centered around the Boston area in the 18th century. The fictional middle school history teacher, Rush Revere goes on another time travelling adventure with Liberty the talking horse and a few other kids. We are also introduced to the Sons of Liberty, Committees of Correspondence, Minutemen, and even the Founding Fathers. His goal is to make the often boring history of our nation, less boring and more exciting for the younger generations.

The book also takes a look at several different events that happened during that time. These include the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party as well as a visit to King George III at his Windsor Castle. We also learn about the the brave men who led the American Revolution and helped obtain independence from the British empire by uniting the colonies and fighting for our freedom. These courageous men include Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, James Otis, John Adams, Patrick Henry, Ben Franklin and many others. They fought against oppression, illegal taxation and abuse from the royal government.

Who is Rush Limbaugh? He hosts one of the highest rated radio talk show in the United States called The Rush Limbaugh Show. This show has over 20 million listeners. He is also a #1 New York Times bestselling author of Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, the first book in the Rush Revere history series. You can find out more information on Rush at either one of his websites RushLimbaugh.com or TwoIfByTea.com.

I really appreciate that this book is also available in an audio version narrated by Rush Limbaugh himself. The illustrations and paintings bring the various historical scenes to life and the addition of the historical documents is greatly appreciated too. Rush occasionally refers to modern day issues within the book, but he does it with subtle references. There are times when I just burst out laughing uncontrollably. Although the story is funny, he was still able to maintain the period drama. You can also tell that a great deal of time and effort went into researching this book.

The different personalities of the patriots are exposed, as the history lesson is presented to us. Rush Limbaugh is a master at telling an amazing story by weaving fictional time travelling and real historical events. Although Liberty is my favorite character, the addition of Elizabeth in this second book was refreshing. The definition of America and the the constitution is exceptionally done. Usually my son takes several days or even weeks to complete a book of this size, however this one only took him a day and half to read through all 242 pages. That just goes to show how easy and fun to read it is.

If you enjoyed the first book in the series, no doubt you will enjoy Rush Revere and the First Patriots. Not only is the story educational it is very entertaining and informative. The writing is brilliant and captivates your attention. The book portrays accurate historical facts without being preachy or boring. This breathing work of art is for all ages, from grandma to the kids. Rush knows how to really connect with his readers and even those who hate studying history will love this book. Discover the value and importance of the Exceptional Americans fight for freedom in a fun way today! Like many other readers, my son and I cannot wait for the next Rush Revere adventure.Read More Reviews Here…

By Veronica Roth
As a fan of the Hunger Games series, I decided to take on the hyped up Divergent series. It turns out the two are very similar, one just has a lot more rules. This new series by author Veronica Roth was clearly not written for adults, but more for teenagers. If you are going to be asking questions and looking for logic or explanations, you will most probably not enjoy this book.

This 487 page book is set in a futuristic, dystopian Chicago which has the the city divided into five factions: Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Candor, and Amity. These factions are based on the virtues cultivated by the members in each one. When teens reach the age of sixteen they have to take a test which helps them decide whether to stay in the faction they were born into or switch to another one for the rest of their lives. Very rarely, a teen is found to have two personality traits, they are then known as being ‘Divergent’.

Beatrice Prior ‘Tris’ was born into Abnegation, the selfless, however she decides to transfer to the Dauntless, the brave. This transition is initiated by the puzzling and inconclusive test results, which reveal that she has at least three traits. She is considered dangerous and has to keep her test results a secret or risk being murdered. This book takes us along on her journey as she experiences grueling initiation trials and many obstacles in her life in general. She is also trying to figure out and understand who she really is, whilst trying to make the faction cut.

Who is Veronica Roth? She was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. Veronica attended Northwestern University where she studied creative writing. She currently still resides in the windy city, Chicago with her husband. Divergent is her first published book.

Veronica writes in first person, we experience the story from Tris’ perspective. The narration is very good and most of the characters are believable including Will, Four and Christina. She is a master at writing engaging fight scenes and also has a great imagination as she was able to create many different trials and challenges. I love that every single day of the trials there is always something exciting that Beatrice experiences.

Unlike the Hunger Games series, the love story is not a main part of the story. Also this time around there is no love triangle involved. The romance itself is cute at the most, it never really got me feeling anything. I think maybe because it is cliche and predicable. The writing is simple and does not use any complicated vocabulary that requires you to sit next to a dictionary or Google definitions as you read.

I got a little annoyed that most of the book covered the trials and exercises. Only in the last hundred or so pages does the real story start to develop. The violence and brutality could have been toned a notch. The world building has its flaws. Many readers have difficulties believing in the world Veronica creates, mainly because it just does not make any sense. There also are many stereotypes and inconsistencies throughout the book. For example on Visiting Day, do the parents visit the children or the children visit their families.

Divergent is the typical dystopia novel. It promotes the empowerment of young girls. It also looks at other things such as friendships, determination, bravery as well as honesty. If you love action, romance and adventure you will enjoy reading this book. The twist introduced in the end was not expected, but thoroughly enjoyed. Unlike other trilogies, there is no cliff hanger at the end of this book, you will get full closure when you finish reading it. In all honesty, most adults will probably find this book annoying. I highly recommend it for teen girls who enjoy this genre.Read More Reviews Here…

If you are one of those people who feels they are probably taking on more than they can handle, with high stress levels and very low energy, this book was written for you. This is a book that tackles time management, especially for those very busy mums who never have enough hours in their days.

Say Goodbye to Survival Mode exposes the life experiences of the author Crystal Paine. She shares practical advice on how to manage your busy life. She has lived the busy mom life and has figured out how to simplify it so she could start enjoying life. This book contains tips as well as the encouragement you need to help you live a more simple, less stressful life.

The main section of this book covers the changes that she made, that resulted in a less stressful life. Simple things like saying no to unimportant commitments, getting enough daily sleep, balancing your bank accounts, only focusing on things that you excel at all make a huge difference. Of course, one of the major ones is having the ability to manage your time, so as to never have that ‘overwhelmed’ feeling.

Who Is Crystal Paine? She is the founder of the popular blog MoneySavingMom.com, which now gets an average of 1.5 million readers every month. She is on a personal mission to help and challenge all women with the often difficult task of time management. Crystal is also a speaker and has published two other books The Money Saving Mom’s Budget and 21 Days To A More Disciplined Life prior to this one. She lives with her husband and three children.

I love Crystal Paine’s down to earth style of writing . This makes the book more relatable and easier to grasp the concepts. The steps that she encourages you to take are so simple, you will never feel overwhelmed. Her real life examples both from her life and some from her readers are a welcome addition. She encourages you to customize your life based on your personal family situation.

The one thing that really hit home on my end was, the advice on ‘Stop Trying to Do it All.’ It has been really difficult for me not to try do everything, but I have started to implement some of the tips from this book. All I had to do was follow the plan on how to select my priorities. The exercises at the end of most of the chapters, are also very helpful.

In conclusion, Say Goodbye To Survival Mode is an easy to read, practical and super motivational book. Not only is it very helpful, it also encourages you to take the steps back to living life and not just trying to survive. Your focus will be renewed, and you will be able to finally concentrate on the important stuff in your life. Say goodbye to stress and hello to your favorite activities and hobbies. It is time that you start living a more relaxing and fulfilling life. Read More Reviews Here…

By Sue Monk Kidd

I read Sue Monk Kidd’s first book The Secret Life of Bees, so when this new book was selected for Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 I was not surprised at all. There are a few similarities between the two. One is that it too is set in the south and the other being it tells the story of the life of two different women both of whom are in search of freedom.

We are taken back deep into South Carolina in 1803, we are introduced to two girls, then we get to follow their lives as they grow up to become women. One girl, Sarah Grimke comes from a wealthy and influential family. The other girl Hetty, is a daughter of a slave who goes by the name Charlotte. Hetty is Sarah’s personal maid given to her as a eleventh birthday present. However, Sarah is rebellious and wants to break out of her privileged life to discover her true purpose in life.

The Invention of Wings is based loosely on the real life story of Sarah Grimke. Hetty however is fictional, she is Sue Kidd Monk’s creation. The story of the Hetty is being used to compare the similar feelings between the two girls. Naturally, the story of Hetty is tends to be the more emotional one of the two. By comparing the two, she was trying to show that all women in those times, were somewhat slaves too.

Who is Sue Monk Kidd? She is the New York best selling author of The Secret Life of Bees. This book was on the best seller list for over a hundred weeks selling around six million copies. Four years later in 2008, the book was adapted into a movie.

She also wrote Mermaid Chair, another #1 New York Times bestseller. This second book was turned into a made for television movie and also won her more awards including the 2005 Quill Book Award for Best General Fiction. You can find her novels in over 30 countries worldwide. Sue Monk Kidd lives just outside Charleston, in South Carolina.

I love how Sue was able to give us a clear picture of how slaves were really treated in that era. She includes horrible descriptions of how the slaves were mistreated, as well as the graphic whippings. The stories of the two main characters are cleverly intertwined, using alternating narration. She is truly a master at combining imagination and reality in her writing. Rich prose is used throughout the book to provide vivid descriptions.

The only complaint I have would be Oprah’s notes. It would have been nice to be able to remove them as they did not really enhance my reading experience. They seemed to have an adverse effect, bordering annoying. I downloaded a Kindle copy, so I do not know if the physical book also has the notes. If not, you may want to opt for that version of the book instead. Other than that Sue Monk Kidd absolutely excels with her storytelling skills.

The Invention Of Wings is a powerful and emotional book. Not only is this an inspiring story it is also a sad one. There are many ideas that are being explored in this one book from race relations, to freedom, to gender roles and even the law. The story is well written and flows smoothly. You will probably be inspired to do something with your life, perhaps even adopt a cause you believe in. Some have gone as far as labeling this book the women version of the American classic Huckleberry Finn. This one should go on your, must read list. Read More Reviews Here…

I went ahead and ordered it. If you are one of those people who is tired of all the fads diets and lose weight fast schemes, then The Doctor’s Diet by Travis Stork is the book for you. Even if you are not trying to lose any weight, this book actually shows you how to eat properly, what you should be eating and why you should be eating the foods he recommends.

Doctor Travis Stork calls his book the unhealthy eating cure. The first thing he does in this book is present the scary facts regarding the current state of obesity. Once he has done that he then reveals his plan of action to help you fight this problem. We are introduced to the Start To Lose Weight Now (Stat) plan that is designed to help you lose weight, restore and maintain your health in the long term.

His plan is not about depriving yourself certain foods to lose weight. Instead, you are educated so you can understand the food you eat and how it can affect your overall health. He discusses all the major food groups from protein to carbs, to sugars, fruits and vegetables. The restore section targets your eating habits and how they affect your heart, blood sugar levels, sleep and even moods. The last section which is the ‘Maintain’ section helps you develop a diet that will work for you, for life.

Who Is Dr. Travis Stork? He is a co-host on the daytime talk show on CBS called “The Doctors”. He is also a board-certified emergency medicine physician. He went to Duke University and earned his M.D. with honors from the University of Virginia. For his outstanding academic achievement he was elected into the prestigious honor society of Alpha Omega Alpha. He takes a more hands on practice what you preach approach when it comes to medicine.

His ultimate goal is to help his patients by empowering them with the knowledge they need to live a long and healthy life. Dr Stork, does not want you to come to his E.R. he wants you to be able to make your own good health decisions on a daily basis. While most health specialists push people to spend many hours in the gym and avoid eating certain foods, his focus is mainly on the daily decisions that you make.

What I really loved about Doctor Travis’ approach is that you do not have to count calories. He includes a lot of research and statistics to support all his suggestions. He also went ahead and debunked some very popular diet myths especially those regarding the intake of carbs. He encourages you to live a healthy life using his own personal experiences.

This diet is customizable and flexible. The delicious recipes can be adjusted to accommodate anyone regardless of cooking skills or lifestyle choices. There are recipes included as a guideline, but he stresses that he does not want people to develop a menu and eat specific items. I think he does a very good job at giving us all the information we need, so we can then make our own personal educated food selection decisions. Even if you are allergic to some food options, there is a section in the book just for you.

The initial Kindle version that I downloaded had a 14 day STAT menu, that was very difficult to read or print. The font could not be adjusted without blurring all the text. This is probably an easy fix, but I felt I should mention that in this review as many other readers have complained about it. Secretly, I wish he had included more recipes in the book too. Perhaps we are just used to being spoon fed everything nowadays days, but it would have been nice to have more recipes for reference.

In conclusion, The Doctor’s Diet takes us back to diet and health basics. It is a fun guide for living a healthy life that takes a very different approach. I took the leap though and went ahead and got a copy of People Tools by Alan Fox. Boy am I glad that I did, as I got a pleasant surprise. You will be engaged right from the beginning and you do not have to endure any useless nuggets of information. He teaches you how to learn, recognize and put into into practice skills for building happy relationships.

At only 208 pages this book is a short read. Altogether Alan shares 54 tools or strategies, and what do you know that is exactly how many chapters the book has. Most of these should be common sense, unfortunately this is not the case in real life. Although, he uses funny titles for the strategies like “Fry Another Egg” the actual lessons are no laughing matter. If in doubt on how to or where use them, he covers that too in each chapter.

Are you familiar with the saying ‘Do unto others, as you would like done unto you’? For the most part this is what Alan explores in People Tools. These simple concepts are taken apart and presented to us, in a way that makes it easier to learn and employ them in our daily lives. When you read this book, you can immediately adopt these ideas and start seeing some positive changes in your relationships with others around you.

Who is Alan Fox? He founded the Rattle magazine. Over his lifetime he has worked for accounting firms, and has owned a law firm as well as a real estate company. He also possesses university degrees in several different fields. Alan Fox has been married three times and has nine children. His latest book People Tools, draws on his life experiences from the past seven decades.

I really enjoyed how he injected many personal stories throughout this book. He uses them to help explain his strategies. As a reader, you begin to feel like you personally know Alan Fox. You feel like he is an old friend with whom you are having a conversation about life. Although each chapter explores a different strategy, they all lead on to each other as if you are reading a novel. I also love that he kept the chapters short and concise, no extra fluff purely wisdom.

The one tool that really resonated with me was ‘Shrink the Glass’. As I read through this chapter, I was thinking to myself, why did I never think to think like this before. That is the other good thing about this book. You will find yourself beginning to apply some of these tools unconsciously, whilst you are still reading through it. I think this is exactly what Alan was trying to get us to do, instantly turn the theory into practice.

Overall, People Tools is very well written. It will give you a new perspective on all your relationships both personal and business ones. Not only is it thought provoking, it is entertaining too. You are provided with a refreshing look at ideas that should ideally be common sense to many of us. Regardless, you are guaranteed to learn a lot of practical strategies that you can start using, right away. Sharpen your people skills today, grab yourself a copy.Read More Reviews Here…
