I didn’t plan on posting an update this soon, but after receiving an email from a tipster figured this was worth mentioning.

This 14 year eBay seller (oldtoyco) claims he gave up after refusing to sign an eBay / PayPal reimbursement agreement.

eBay requires anyone that’s selling on the site to agree to reimburse them in the event a buyers purchase is refunded. A seller has to sign an agreement with PayPal to allow them to draw funds from the sellers preferred refund reimbursement agreement on file with PayPal.

Some of the old timers don’t agree with this NEW and improved eBay and rightfully thinking don’t trust eBay or PayPal. eBay is now Pro Buyer and a seller can get royally screwed by a conning buyer, all with eBay’s Blessings!

Reports of my death after being held captive at the Utah, eBay Draper Terror Center and confinement camp are false.

I managed to escape after bribing an eBay Guard with a knock off Rolex Watch that i bought on eBay from a Chinese seller (he swore it was real).

When i escaped eBay still had Cappnonymous locked up, and were bombarding him 24/7 with old Nazi films. I guess he didn’t have anything to bribe the guards with since eBay suspended his account, and PayPal seized his funds.

So i recon it’s about time for a quick blog post to keep the site halfway current, and not looking abandoned.

After touring the usual forums and blogs, etc, I see it’s just about the same old sleazy eBay as ever.

So here is whats new since my last post.. It’s still mostly old news – same old whining about getting screwed etc. Just different sellers and buyers complaining about the same old stuff, but with a few new twists.

Here is someone that bought a collector Corvette with 44,000 Miles, but the title said 144,000 miles.. LOL!

Nothing has changed in this sleaze pit. And the alleged eBay shills and sock puppets in the company fish bowl ridicule the guy until he leaves the discussion, then the buyer is called a Seagull, as to hurl the final insult to the guy that was allegedly FUNKED by eBay and the Seller!

I see eBay Negatives Blog has not been updated since last summer. RateeBay.com is still up, eBay has a glowing 6.7% feedback rating. Ole Crazee New York Driver is still video blogging away on YouTube. Meg Whitman’s Blog is still up.

And Firemeg is still posting anti-eBay sentiment. #1 Cause of Viruses & Trojans on Home PC’s? …eBay! LOL!

eBay Seller T.J.ELECTRONICS1 apparently went belly up at Christmas, this must have cost eBay a small fortune. Never did read about it anywhere, but it has all the signs of a major holiday screwing!

Ina Steiner is blogging about eBay inserting other sellers ads on completed item pages, and apparently has taken on another blogger. And PayPal is still seizing sellers money and is drawing lots of complaints as usual.

And.. John Donahoe.. Still does not have an Android App for eBay Motors!

It’s the Christmas Shopping Season!

I have done a few searches and didn’t come up with anything.

For those of you that are just now tuning into this channel, here is the scoup.

On September 30th this year, ole eBay CEO John DonaHoe was seen blogging a video about how HOT eBay Mobile Device Sales were on his iPhone app.

He went on to brag about how well eBay Motors was doing with it’s own specific iPhone app. And claimed Motors was selling “2600 Cars EACH WEEK” with it’s iPhone app.

Donahoe went on to say how important mobile device platform coverage is for eBay.

Now far be it me to stir up any shit, BUT.. Where is it?? After all it really can’t be all that difficult to program one specifically for eBay Motors. And i can tell from the search results on this website alone there is a market for that keyword, people are searching for an “eBay Motors Android app”.

Plus if the iPhone Motors app was giving eBay Motors that many sales, I would think they would already had an Android Version out by the Christmas shopping season making them even more money!

Just think about all those car dealers with Droids, G2′s etc, scanning their newly purchased cars bar codes at auctions and uploading them to eBay Motors quick quick quick. With eBay Motors $50 per car listing fee that would add up quick!

Oh well.. It’s only unearned revenue. LOL!

So where is it?? Or was that a bunch of PR Bullshiz on this video??

Trust in information on the web is being damaged by the huge numbers of people paid by companies to post comments online, say researchers.

Could eBay be guilty of doing this?

Fake posters can “poison” debate and make people unsure about who they can trust, the study suggests.

Some firms have created tens of thousands of fake accounts to flood chat forums and skew debate.

The researchers say there are reliable ways to spot fakes and urge websites to do more to police users.

The researchers from Canada and China say paying people to post comments is an “interesting strategy in business marketing” but it is not a benign activity.

“Paid posters may create a significant negative effect on the online communities, since the information from paid posters is usually not trustworthy,” they wrote.

Battles. In some cases, rival companies have used competing armies of workers to wage comment wars that confused members of the public looking for unbiased information.

The researchers say the fake comments can overwhelm some users, causing them to find it hard to trust any information found online.

They give the example of a spike in activity on a World of Warcraft chat forum on the Chinese website Baidu.

A thread titled “Junpeng Jia, your mother asked you to go back home for dinner!” received over 300,000 replies over a two day period.

A PR company later claimed it had employed 800 individuals to run 20,000 separate accounts on the site to help maintain interest in the videogame while it was down for maintenance.

Growing problem. While the practice of flooding forums with fake comments is most widespread in China, where such posters are called the Internet Water Army, it is becoming common in other nations too.

The US military is known to use fakes to infiltrate chat forums to gather information about potential terror groups.

Similarly many Facebook pages are plagued by bogus friends and “social bots” that are used to stage debates.

Many marketing firms also seed forums with comments in a bid to create “viral” interest in a company or event.

However, fakes can be spotted by analysing their patterns of activity and the words they use, say the researchers.

Fakes are more likely to start new comment threads, make inane comments rather than add to a debate, and repeat former comments with minor changes, the study suggests.

The researchers say they are refining software tools to help website administrators tackle the “painful” problem.

eBay forum members beware you are being tracked.

In a blink of an eye i thought i saw it flash by my browser while a page was loading. Further investigation of eBay discussion boards page source code revealed a snippet of Google Analytics code embedded in the header.

Google Analytics is a finely tuned piece of tracking software that can tell a webmaster just about everything about who is visiting a website. An eBay member no longer needs to be logged in for eBay to track their visits to the discussion boards.

This is probably the reason most of the archived eBay discussions have been removed from the site. I know external search used to bring up tons of very negative archived forum topics. Deleting archived discussions does nothing to cure the problem at hand!

Meanwhile as the once good mother ship eBay continues to sink further into the abyss, eBay continues to censor the discussions, and manipulate what members they have left by seeding conversations. (as said by John Bodine in the videos below).

And lets not forget the alleged eBay cheerleaders who very well could be company shills and sock puppets. Also the term astroturfer comes to mind too.

If you are concerned about your privacy on the internet in general. Here are a few recommendations. I see this scammer is a newly registered eBay member and already suspended (naru). I have suspected for many years that eBay was using Bid Bots to further their bottom line.

It wouldn’t take much to write a program that would register new members with user details plucked from an online white page type of database. Then set em loose bidding and buying on the site. After the required number of unpaid item strikes were filed that bot would become NARU just like the little fella above. But that’s just my two cents worth about the possibility of it actually being done.

What a deal.. Get a scamming buyer on your car.. eBay keeps the fees.. And get Ridiculed on eBay’s Motors discussion board by the regulars, and possibly eBay sock puppets and Astroturfers masquerading as regular members. These two sure seem to fit the profile above, and appear to be one person, despite the sentencing styles. Fruitacres and Salez4u.

The bottom line is.. eBay makes money from fraud. eBay could put bidder / buyer regulations in place to validate the member is who they say they are. Sellers could also be validated to prevent or at least slow down scam listings. But just like this article clearly shows, eBay is making money from these deadbeat fraudulent bidders.

With eBay profiting from fraud, what incentive is there for them to prevent it?

Oh well.. Next time try www.autotrader.com or www.cars.com. And depending on your location, defined by zip code, cars.com is offering a single free listing with no FVF or strings attached!

If you are planning on buying a car on eBay Motors, the time to do your homework is before bidding and winning an auction.

Most dealers are used to having inspections done and working to finalize their sale. But a private seller just want’s to be paid after his listing ends and that’s it.

This guy won a 2006 Subaru WRX and decided he wanted the seller to take it to a dealer for an inspection after the fact. Seller does not agree and files an unpaid item strike against the buyer.

I have to say i don’t blame the seller one bit. His ad clearly said cash on delivery with local pickup only. Buyer is wrong bidding and then trying to change the terms of the sale. The time to arrange inspections is before winning an auction, or clicking a buy now listing!

eBay Motors Directors Of Misinformation Giving Poor Advice

I read this post on eBay’s Motors Discussion Board this morning, from a buyer that apparently bought this 2010 Ford F-150 Pickup truck from a private seller, and was asking for advice how to pay for it and receive the title.

One of the discussion board community support members told the guy to be sure the vehicle was titled in the eBay sellers account holders name. Talk about misinformation! What does having the title in the eBay account holders name have anything to do with proving who owns the vehicle? Even eBay’s VPP does not stipulate that the vehicle must be titled in the sellers account holders name to provide coverage. Though that might not be a bad idea to help curb the curbstoners!

The 1st step for any Internet vehicle buyer is to verify that the seller is indeed the legal owner of said vehicle offered for sale. My advice to the winner of that truck auction is to request a copy of the Title front and back, AND a copy of the sellers Drivers License to prove it is his truck to sell.

The next step is to verify if their is a lien on the vehicle or not. It’s the buyers responsibility to request either a fax, or scanned document, sent via email attachment of any Lien Satisfaction proof the seller has. And then to call the lien holder to verify that the lien is paid off! The normal procedure for a lien holder satisfying a lien is to send notification to the state that the lien is satisfied so they can remove it from their records. And also send a paper notice to the vehicle owner that the lien is paid in full. If the lien holder is holding a paper title, they would put an official stamp on the title front saying Lien Satisfied and the date it was satisfied, along with a signature of the official applying the stamp. This vehicle in question does show a lien being applied shortly after it was 1st sold on eBay’s Auto Check History Report. It should also be noted that it’s rare to see either CarFax or Experian show a Lien Satisfaction. Being that this was a new Ford product Ford Motor Credit Company probably is or was the official lien holder of record.

If the vehicle does have a lien on it. Whatever you do, DO NOT send full payment to the seller / owner and rely on them to pay off the lien and send you a clear title. In the past i have bought Internet vehicles in other states by sending TWO Cashiers Checks, one to the Lien Holder that has agreed to mail me the title after the pmt was received. And the other to the vehicles owner for the difference. This is really the only way to protect yourself.

Depending on the state where the vehicle is titled a paper title may be optional. In Florida a paper title is optional at time of transfer and is available for an additional fee. A seller of a vehicle with an E-Title can go to any Tag Agency and get a paper title. Here is a link to Florida DMV FAQ about Electronic (E-Titles). And a link to Texas DMV where i did not see anything about Electronic Titles.

In this situation eBay’s VPP would cover the buyer if he sent payment and did not receive the title or the vehicle, and since the seller did not state whether there was a lien or not, the VPP should also cover an undisclosed lien, if that turned out to be the case. However it’s important to Research The FILING Deadline for an eBay VPP Claim which is usually 30 days from the listings end. But regardless whether you are covered or not, do your homework first!

If the buyer is not planning on personally picking this truck up, thus doing his own Inspection in person. Be sure to pay a 3rd party to inspect it for you. A local Ford Dealer can do this for about an hours labor rate. There is always the possibility that the vehicle could have been involved in an accident or other form of damage, but not shown on a vehicle history report. It can sometimes take up to 90 days or longer for fresh damage to be added to CarFax and Auto Check History Reports. Also be sure to run the vehicles VIN Number through the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) Database.

Folks.. Times are really tough these days! There is a multitude of scams all over the Internet, not just on eBay Motors. Though i believe eBay Motors was the birthplace of Internet vehicle fraud.

Until you have thoroughly done your homework and VERIFIED EVERYTHING, Never Never Blindly Send Payment For A Vehicle!

You very well could have been bidding on someones STOLEN PHOTOS and DESCRIPTION. Hard times can force ordinary honest people to do something that’s fraudulent and against the law.

Why Don’t eBay Motors Have An Android Phone App??

It’s November and the deep south is finally cooling down.

Thanksgiving will soon be here, and of course the mad rush to start this holiday seasons Christmas shopping is upon us again.

First off, I should admit that I erred on this previous posting where i stated “John Donahoe claims his iPhone app sells 2600 Cars Daily. He actually said it was 2600 Cars Sold in a WEEK. Oops.. I Goofed! The old saying “Crap Happens” definitely applies here..

BUT! Even at 2600 Cars Per Week at $125 (private party free listing with successful TSF) comes to $3250 per week.

With that much money coming in I would think eBay Motors would have an Andriod App out by now. The eBay Motors iPhone / iPad app (not to be confused with the eBay Core app) is limited to those two specific devices.

But the Android Platform is used on many mobile devices and also many carriers. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-mobile, Boost, and others, all offer phones with the Android (Google) Operating System.

If eBay is indeed selling 2600 Cars per Week, and this is not just typical eBay Market Hype, why limit the market exposure to just an iPhone / iPad app??

Just something to think about. .

And while I’m here writing this post. Folks just beware this holiday season of Internet Fraud. If that bargain car you just found sounds too good to be true – it probably is!

Scammers rely on the greed of buyers thinking that they can really buy a car (or anything else) dirt cheap. Don’t let the lure of a Really LOW Bargain Price toss all your common sense out the window! Yahoo!’s Name Servers are reporting no records.

That normally means that the hosting company shut the site down. Yahoo! was the registrar and web hosting company for this scam website.

Folks always beware if an advertisement is offing something at a really low price. That’s the 1st BIG RED FLAG of a SCAM!

Any website or listing that does not have a Phone Number to call and speak to the seller is usually a fraudulent site set up to steal your money.

And a site that accepts only a Bank to Bank Wire Transfer for payment, along with no phone contact info is a scam!

Scammers can set a website like bestatvstore.com in a few short minutes. Register a domain name with privacy, set up a hosting account, upload all the site files, create a MySQL database and import the database tables, sitemap and submit to search. Then the scammer is in business, usually all done with someones stolen credit card!

These scammers were advertising all over Craigslist and eBay which is where i found out about it. I’m sure it will be back under another name! If you spot it again listed under Craigslist or eBay leave a comment below.

And if you fell victim to this scam – report it to the FBI at WWW.IC3.GOV

So beware if a deal sounds to good to be true.. It usually is!

eBay Deadbeat Bidders | A Car Is NOT Sold Until It’s Paid For!

eBay Motors Deadbeat Car Bidders

eBay considers a Car SOLD when it gets a bid or reaches the sellers reserve.

They also naturally consider a fixed price listing SOLD when someone clicks the Buy Now Button. But in the real world a vehicle is not sold until the deal is done and it’s paid for.

eBay advertises a FREE Car Listing on eBay Motors, and if it sells pay only a successful transaction fee. On the average that successful transaction fee is $125. Which is a fair deal if the automobile transaction is successfully closed and paid for.

But from what i have personally experienced and read on eBay’s Motors Discussion Board that’s not always the case. eBay is well known for it’s deadbeat bidders, and eBay Motors is no exception. And at $125 per “successful listing as eBay calls em” is a huge profit maker for eBay. And i wouldn’t be surprised if one of these days eBay gets caught with their pants down using Bid Bots to further pad there bottom line, as one penny auction site got busted for doing.

Maybe some of these eBay Deadbeat Car Buyers are using eBay’s NEW Motors Specific app that eBay CEO John Donahoe recently boasted SOLD 2600 CARS DAILY! Which by the way is only for the iPhone and iPad, there is no eBay Motors App for an Android phone. Talk About Market FLUFF!

On eBay Motors it used to be that Auctions and Fixed Price Listings could be re-listed unlimited times, and counted as ONE Free Listing, as long as the re-list your car feature was used.

But as of 06/14/2011 eBay changed the game rules to allow 6 FREE listings (up from 4 previously) but no longer count re-lists as the same listing. They also added the following verbiage: There is no additional fee charged on the actual sale of the car after the listing closes successfully on eBay. However, you’ll be charged a Successful Listing Fee regardless of whether you carry out the sale with the buyer.

So I’m wondering if deadbeat bidders TSF will still be refundable? The way I read this announcement, the TSF will be non refundable. Sellers list vehicles to SELL them! It’s not the sellers who sport bid or otherwise never make contact to finalize the transaction. Also be advised that Vehicle auctions or fixed priced listings are considered NON Binding by eBay.

NOTE: eBay calls their normal Final Value Fee (FVF) a Transaction Service Fee (TSF) on eBay Motors to skate vehicle sellers licensing laws.

Selling your car on eBay Motors is a crap shoot – and as the old saying goes – the house always wins!

A better choice with NO Strings Attached would be cars.com where depending on your location (defined by zip code) cars.com will give you 1 FREE listing. There is no FVF or TSF either!

But if you want to give eBay Motors a try follow these tips so hopefully there will be coins jingling in your pocket after the sale.

Protect Yourself! Be sure to select your bidder requirements. These include refusing bidders that have had unpaid item strikes filed against them, and reject bidders in a country you do not ship to. And especially require any bidder or buyer to have a PayPal account. This alone will help prevent a lot of bidder fraud.

Also if your eBay account has good feedback. It’s best to set up another account for selling your car. There is something about selling a car on eBay Motors that makes a buyer expect more than should be expected in a used cars condition. It’s not uncommon for buyers to extort money from sellers on a vehicle transaction. If your eBay account has no feedback it is pretty much feedback extortion proof. Unlike a TRS or other high feedback buyer or seller that might fold to an extortion attempt by a buyer that sees your 100% feedback score. Describe your vehicle properly and list any known defects or issues, but DO NOT let a buyer Extort Money back after the sale!

Lay out your terms of auction / listing in writing. Any used car that is out of warranty should be sold AS-IS with no warranty. Require a Non Refundable deposit of $200-$300 by PayPal within 24 Hours of the listings end. If your listing under the fixed price (buy now) Select an IMMEDIATE DEPOSIT required to eliminate buy-now click button fraud by deadbeat and sport fixed price buyers. I also suggest payment in full within 7 business days. Payment by Bank to Bank wire transfer is the best safest method for the seller. Cash on delivery is another option, but that opens the door to further negotiation by the buyer on arrival if the buyer nit picks the car to pieces. (a common occurrence on eBay motors transactions)

Provide your contact info in plain sight in your listing. This includes your phone number and email address. The whole idea is to take advantage of the eBay traffic and provide a way for buyers that might not be registered on eBay to contact you. NOTE: eBay recently restricted sellers from listing their contact info in their listings, but this does not include eBay Motors Vehicle Listings.

I would advise hiding your true home or cell phone number. Putting your cell or other number on eBay motors will open the door to solicitors calling wanting to sell your your car for an up-front fee! Also there are lots of bots that crawl the Internet searching for and harvesting phone numbers and email addresses. Phone numbers wind up on robot-dial solicitors of get rich quick schemes, telemarketers, etc. A good alternative is to get a FREE Google Voice Phone Number in your local area to forward your calls to your cell or other number of choice. The GV number can also accept text messages that you can respond to within your GV account. This is a great free privacy option to screen your calls or direct them to an included voice mail. While your on Google setting up your voice account, set up a Google Gmail Account to use as your email address in your listing. If you get an email, Google can send a text message to notify you it’s there. And Gmail is compatible with most pop mailers like MS Outlook and Outlook Express. But as always beware of scammers emailing trying to pull some form of scam on you. If you suspect someone might be trying to scam you Google it up.

Present your vehicle good. Be sure to wash and vacuum, wax, or optionally have a professional detail done on it. Make sure you take many good quality photos. Your well worded description, including any major faults or excuses, and good photos will help to sell your car. I absolutely hate the eBay Motors photo layout where a potential buyer has to scroll up out of the photo view to select a thumbnail for viewing. Whoever designed the layout was not too bright. It would be better if the thumbnails surrounded the main photo or under it. Besides why pay eBay for more photos, when you can set up a FREE Photobucket.com account and simply upload all your photos to an album, then select the html code and paste that into the eBay Motors SYI box under your description. Be sure to select the HTML tab before pasting your photo bucket code. Use your best photo for the EBM Gallery photo.

Selling an old Collector Car? Buyers in Europe love old American Classic Cars and have the money to pay for them. When selecting your bidder requirements do not block bidders / buyers from Europe from bidding. Also Bank Wire Transfer is the preferred method of payment for Europe. If you have never done this call your bank and ask about it. Personally an out of country transaction is easier for the seller than a local one. Buyer sends payment and has his own transporter pick up the car. Here is a Volvo XC-90 I sold to Moscow Russia buyer a few years ago.

Beware of potential buyers emails that want to pay in full by PayPal. That’s a big red flag right there. The PayPal account could be stolen and after the account holder realizes that their account was hijacked, PayPal will reverse the transaction. You could wind up with no car or money! Only accept PayPal for a small enough transaction to secure the deal until full payment can be made. And also beware that that buyer could very well do a charge back with his card company, IF the PayPal transaction was funded by a credit card. And if this happens, PayPal will not fight it for you.

Never accept any form of Escrow for a vehicle. There are many Fraudulent Escrow company’s run by sacmmers that steal a legitimate company’s website and reword the pages to their fraudulent benefit. Also there are also Fake shipping company’s who promise to pick up a vehicle and pay the seller for the vehicle with a cashiers check upon pickup. One such website was a Look Alike DAS Website that we recently reported. Dependable Auto Shipping is one of eBay’s preferred shippers. Be sure to never deviate from your payment terms as described in your auction.

If you have an old beater car that’s only worth a few hundred bucks, don’t waste your time trying to sell it on eBay Motors. The greatest majority of Deadbeats bid on old clunkers, and either try the old 419 Advance Payment Scam on the seller, or don’t respond after the auction has ended. But the eBay Till Goes Caching, and congratulates you on your Successful Sale! These kind of cars are best sold local on Craigslist or even a cars.com FREE listing as i mentioned above.

And if you have a problem with your transaction – chances are the eBay Motors Forum users will try and put the blame on your shoulders, and belittle you until you leave the forum never to return again.

This poster on eBay’s Motors Forums claimed he was redirected to www.bestatvstore.com after clicking on an eBay internal link. That sounds like another eBay XSS Redirect that has been uncorrected for many years.

Hey John Bodine.. Why don’t you post in one of your eBay forums “we heard you and have fixed that redirect vulnerability.” Watch that post go Poof! LOL!!

Actually today a Google Safe Browsing look up on eBay.com showed 74 Scripting Exploits, and 3 Trojans.

And the US-Cert Vulnerability Note VU#808921 warns of this scripting vulnerability: eBay contains a cross-site scripting vulnerability.

From the US-CERT about eBay: “An attacker may be able to obtain sensitive data from the eBay web site. As of the publication of this document, attackers are using this vulnerability to redirect auction viewers to phishing sites and to modify the eBay auction page to steal credentials. A wide range of impacts may be possible, including disclosure of passwords, credit card numbers, or other personal information. Likewise, information stored in cookies could be stolen or corrupted. An attacker could also exploit web browser vulnerabilities that require scripting support.”

And as far as www.bestatvstore.com goes.. It just wreaks of Fraud! No Phone Number listed and Payment by Bank Wire Transfer Only! I wouldn’t even consider buying an ATV from that website!

So apparently this eBay discussion board poster bought an old car “Off Of eBay Motors” and is whining about it’s condition.

But even if he had bought it ON eBay Motors by either winning an auction, or using the buy now feature, the VPP wouldn’t have covered it anyway, since it was older than 10 years. Be Advised that eBay VPP is as full of holes as a piece of Swiss Cheese. Be sure to Read The VPP Exclusions!

A 2000 Buick with 90k miles is obviously just another old sled as we used to call em back in the good old days. According to the buyer, the seller lied his azz off to sell the car. It seems that eBay is hell bent on keeping it’s members thinking they are safe by controlling the discussions on there community forums.

Recently there have been reports of pulled current topics and posts, with the poster receiving the famous “eBay pink slap” and even permanent discussion posting banishment.

Rather than fix the fundamental problems with the website, eBay apparently prefers to hide (or attempts to hide) good information that would benefit both buyers and sellers, in the format of archived eBay forums discussion posts that were easily found by a search.

In my postings I not only criticize eBay Itself, but also BAD eBay Buyers and Sellers. The idea behind being a good critic is not to be one sided (as one long time eBay critic / news reporter has become lately.) Which brings me to the topic of today’s blog post. Pulled eBay Archived Discussions.

I often link to eBay Discussions when blogging about a bad seller, bad buyer, or some eBay screw up like this one! Yesterday i noticed a rather long discussion topic about a 1954 Jaguar Scam was recently removed from eBay’s Motors discussion board.

Upon further investigation i found another topic that had been removed about the pitfalls of using Escrow for a high dollar collector car transaction that went bad.

I wondered if it was just the blog posts i published that linked to eBay discussions that were removed after going back as far as February this year, and finding every one i had referenced had been removed from the discussion archives. Nope.. Running a Bing Search for eBay Motors Escrow Fraud Discussions revealed this cached forum topic that I didn’t blog about had also been removed!

You can also tell that this pulled eBay discussion topic from 2010 was recently pulled because the cached page was not overwritten by the default eBay topic not found notification.

Folks, with eBay pulling archived topics like the above example, it’s just one less available source of information for anyone that is considering buying a car on eBay Motors that could very well be a scam.

But just like it has been for many years, eBay want’s you to THINK Your Safe Shopping On Their Website. In their minds, by removing discussion topics that mention any kind of fraud, or a transaction turned bad, there are no bad deals on eBay, and everyone that’s buying and selling is happy with the service they provide.

But also it is eBay’s Bed Partner LiveWorld that should take some of the credit regarding removed topics and posts mentioned in this article. LiveWorld hosts and manages the eBay discussion boards. If you have received a Pink Slap or Posting Suspension it’s this bunch of xxxxxx that does the Slapping and Suspending.

If you didn’t know it, LiveWorld AKA LieWorld also manages Facebook’s wall posts and site pages. Put up a negative eBay Page and it will never get indexed into search. I found that out after my site got hit hard with a DdoS Attack in July 2011. I had put up an eBayMotorsSucks Face Book page that after 3 months couldn’t be found in search! Yep.. LiveWorld.com The Censorship Folks!

There is nothing like buying online and waiting for your item to arrive.

In another brain fart – eBay CEO John Donahoe is hoping to compete with Amazon by opening his very own Fulfillment Center. He is hoping that eBay will sell more items from Chinese sellers if buyers can get it faster.

I remember when Donahoe took over after Meg Whitman resigned. He made a comment that eBay looked like a cheap flea market.. Well geeeeezzzzz.. What does he think that CHEAP CHINESE CARP looks like?? LOL!

So here is a buyer that bought this poor quality Motorcycle Trailer that literally started falling apart the 1st time he used it. He took a bunch of photos of it and the damage done the 1st time he used it, and listed it on eBay Motors to warn other potential buyers before they get screwed!

Though the listing does not specify that it came from China, it sure looks like something they would offer for sale.

Do yourself a favor. If your shopping for something for something like this, buy local from a reputable dealer.

Geez! Another Buyer that is apparently to DUMB to READ the Auction Description!

Seller lists a 2004 Dodge Neon SRT4 that is fully loaded up with equipment. Miles under 100K and it sells for $6900! Talk about a Steal Of A Deal!

Car was sold at a Manheim Dealer auction and announced as having possible unibody / frame / core support damage. It’s a game the Dealers Play at the auctions, and the large dealers have the auction inspect the cars. If the auction finds a painted panel, a replaced bumper cover, or whatever, they sell the car with that announcement so the dealers can’t arbitrate the car and try and chisel the seller down. That’s just the way it works!

Seller properly disclosed the car as having been announced as damaged by an auction in his listing, plus Auto Check reports the auction announcement.

Buyer bids and didn’t READ the description, or obviously the History Report, and demands his deposit back. eBay forces the seller to refund the deposit and probably sanctioned the seller as well!

We published THIS SCAM last month where a seller offered this 1954 Jaguar XK-120 Roadster at auction, and was ignoring prospective buyers questions.

The twist with this scam is. The seller AKA The Scammer lists a bait car with a few photos and a very limited description. The scammer hopes potential bidders will send emails asking for more details, photos, etc. But does not return any of those emails until after the listing has ended.

The whole idea here is to let the listing run it’s full duration. Then send out scam second chance offers using eBay’s legitimate Second Chance Offer feature. If the scammer tried to pull the scam while the listing was running, someone would surly report it to eBay and they would eventually pull the listing.

Oh well.. I used to warn suckers that had questions like the above in the eBay Motors Forums screen grab. But eBay decided to Shoot The Messenger!

You see, its really simple. As always eBay wants you to Think Your Safe shopping on their website. They quickly remove messages from members warning of scams on their Discussion Boards. And have been on a major discussion censorship campaign removing posts and suspending members who were discussing the fraud on eBay. Myself included!

Here is another crappy deal that went down on eBay Motors.

A Curbstoner AKA Title Jumper is an unlicensed person peddling cars with open titles. eBay Motors has had a problem with curbstoners for a long time.

On the leading automotive website, autotrader.com sellers can list 3 cars in a 12 month period, when they try to list a 4th car the system boots them off and gives them a link to become a registered dealer on the site.

eBay Motors still don’t care if someone gets stuck with a title they can’t transfer. But they do have a Curbstoner Exclusion on their Vehicle Purchase Protection program (VPP) Under Situations that are not covered by VPP: #13 = Receiving a title that is not signed, is improperly assigned, or receiving a title but not being able to register the vehicle. eBay INC is only interested in one thing, collecting fees. So you can peddle as many open titled cars on their site as long as you pay your fees!

Meg Whitmans Successor, CEO John Donahoe is really concerned about the buyers experience on eBay, but here on eBay Motors crappy deals like this one seem to go down regularly. It looks like Donahoe isn’t the slightest bit concerned about eBay Motors. And for a fact, a few years ago was the biggest income earner for eBay USA. Since then It’s turned into a smelly turd!

So here is a guy that bought a bargain car on eBay motors but can’t title it in his name because the curbstoner printed his name on the buyers line, but didn’t pay the taxes and register it in his name. Buyer is up the creek without a paddle.

Interesting..

About 2:00 into this video, eBay’s CEO John Donahoe proudly proclaims eBay sells 2600 Cars DAILY via their iPhone app.

Well i guess that’s possible if it’s that easy to look at a car and click the buy now button. But i have to wonder if that is media hype, or even worse, how many of those 2600 Cars were Actually PAID For??

eBay Motors is famous for deadbeat bidders, and the bidders are not regulated or verified. How many teenagers are downloading that app after school and buying a Ferrari to impress a girl they want to get with?

How many Nigerians are buying cars with their iPhones and working sellers with their advance payment scams?

But i do agree that eCommerce is fast moving to a mobile format, this site is also Android and iPhone compatible.

I just cant picture the small photos and squeezed in description to be worthy enough to buy a big ticket item like a car online, unless it was a new car and you had already done your research, and drove one and decided that’s was what you wanted, and were price shopping.

BUT.. Would you buy a Used Car online with only a smart phone?

Here is an interesting video i found on you tube.

It’s often said that “eBay Pinks” get hateful replies to any board posts they either start or engage in. Lets face it, eBay is not a happy place like it was years ago.

It appears that just about every eBay forum has at least one regular poster that is very active, and could be an eBay employee or even a liveworld employee acting as a liaison between the company’s. And could even be a board moderator as well.

This could explain why some members get away with all kinds of crap postings, while others get pink slapped for nearly nothing and wind up with a permanent board suspension. Lets face it, if a moderator gets a stiff one for someone they will look for that members postings and scrutinize every word looking for something that violates policy. Just like a cop you pizzed off lays waiting for you to drive by and give him probable cause to pull you over.

In the below 2 part video eBay’s John Bodine talks about “Seeding the Conversations” among other things, but i don’t see a bunch of Pinks posting regularly on eBay’s boards. They must be all under cover as just another active user.

Reminds me of an old saying we had in the car business “get their confidence, get their trust, and get their money.” And if they misbehave give them the boot!

Just a theory, but It’s interesting material for discussion anyway.

I previously blogged about an eBay member that gave countless hours daily helping other eBay members with problem transactions and providing links and quoting eBay policy for whatever the situation might have been.

You see, eBay used to be about community and members helping other members. But since the John Donahoe regime took over Meg Whitmans CEO position everything has been abruptly disrupted.

It appears eBay no longer want’s community member help, and if the regime thinks those members are costing IT MONEY in lost Final Value Fees it will silently silence them. Of course this is all done by LIE WORLD eBay’s partner in censorship who actually does the dirty work behind the scenes.

I received an email from her saying she outed a seller that used a buying ID and filed complaints with eBay to get the item free and then sold it on her selling id.

Whether you expose fraud that’s happening on eBay or provide links to apply for a FVF eBay can’t stand it, and soon silences the poster. The old saying “Shooting The Messenger” comes to mind here!

I know this person personally and can vouch for her credibility and eBay community abilities. She was the best UNPAID eBay Support that any company could ask for.

She is also a Cancer Survivor and and is a Disabled American that spent a good 6 hours daily 7 days a week cruising eBay’s community discussion boards looking for other eBay community members that needed help.

Recently a hurricane caused some major damage to her state and also cost her money in lost food from being out of power for several days. We all chipped in and took up a collection for her. One member even donated a generator to power her refrige and medical device necessary if another power outage should occur.

This is what eBay used to be all about. eBay used to be a thriving community of people that believed in the principals Pierre Odimyer founded eBay on. Since John Donahoe took over running eBay corp the community principles has been chiseled away, member by member.

This situation leaves eBay without another good community member helping others. And as most everyone that buys and sells knows, eBay Corp Support Sucks!

This is a podcast i had today with Bob from Ohio about this failed transaction on eBay Motors.

Bob is a long time eBay Member that joined a year later than i did back in 1999.

He got shafted several times by eBay as a seller, but this last time was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak. It involved a car dealership in Cannonsburg, PA.

The dealer bought a decent old 60′s Ford Falcon from him, and paid the required $500 deposit by PayPal. The seller properly described the car as a “driver quality” kind of car. In other words the car was a daily driver that ran and drove reliably, but was nowhere near a show quality car, and was not advertised as such.

The buyer called and wanted to come on a Sunday to pick the car up and pay with a check. The terms of sale were CASH on delivery if picking up in person, and a bank wire transfer if having the vehicle shipped. The dealer said they didn’t have the cash on a Sunday and promised to come pick the car up on the following Wednesday.

Wednesday came and the buyer showed up and nit picked the car to pieces and offered less for it. The discussion became heated and the buyer threatened the seller with bodily harm. Bob called the police and after investigating the situation gave the buyer an option to pay the seller or leave. The buyer left and refused to buy the car.

Here is where eBay gives the shaft to Bob. The buyer complained to PayPal and requested his deposit back. There is no PayPal coverage for eBay Motors vehicle deposits, and PayPal closed the case in the sellers favor. Next the buyer called their bank and filed a charge back claiming unauthorized usage of his credit card.

She LIED to the bank and the bank took the money back from PayPal who is demanding the seller make a deposit into his PayPal account to cover the negative balance. The seller could smell this coming and emptied his PayPal account, and closed his bank account attached to the PayPal account.

PayPal just blew him off despite him faxing them proof that it was a Vehicle transaction and that they refused delivery, including the police report. PayPal never acknowledged the receipt of the documents and refuses to let Bob speak with a supervisor. Another Crappy Deal on eBay Motors.

This Really Sucks!

This person is a Disabled American that spends her time giving FREE eBay Support via eBay’s Community Discussion Boards. I got an email from her Sunday saying she couldn’t log in to the eBay Motors Discussion Board, and have not heard anything from her since.

This afternoon i read this thread and figure LiveWorld was looking out for their client and locked her out. It’s obvious that when someone tries to sell a car and gets a Deadbeat Bidder eBay pockets $125. But most casual sellers don’t know that they can get that FVF back by filing an unpaid item dispute with eBay.

Along comes this nice person showing them how to get a refund, and provides a link to apply. This person is costing eBay Money!

Liveworld looks at this and says, YOU are costing our client MONEY! And we can’t have that! Then gives em a big golden organ right in the rectome, there really isn’t any other reason.

eBay just keeps sinking lower and lower every day!

I stumbled across eBay Motors NEW Blog earlier in the week.

I have to admit I like it. It’s a WordPress.org free blog software with a clean ad free theme. BUT i just had to comment on it’s featured vehicle this week.

A 1967 base model Cougar that it’s owner says it’s “nicer than new.” I somehow have to disagree with that statement. The carpets are badly faded, it looks like over spray on the right door sill, and whoever painted the engine also painted the distributor and heater hoses Ford blue.

Someone probably will be screaming like hell when they get this one!

I like this one better, and IT would have been a better choice to feature on your blog.

I had been following this one last month after a bidder posted a question on the eBay Motors discussion board.

The discussion was actually about a classic Mercedes 190 SL that the seller also had listed. The thread was quite active and even most of the regulars thought the listing was legit. The seller had also bought some European car parts on eBay Motors so it looked like a legit listing done by someone without a lot of eBay knowledge. I still smelled a rat in the woodpile!

One of my tipsters was a bidder on the car that ended with reserve not met at $51k. Soon there after the seller made contact with that bidder offering to sell the car for $18k, and sent a link to buy the car on eBay. Only problem was it was a duplicate listing on a scam website!

Scammers will list a vehicle on a hijacked eBay sellers account, or register a new eBay account using a stolen credit card. They then list a basic listing with a few photos and a very generic description. Then as a rule do not answer questions from proposed bidders until after the listing ends.

The scammer want’s his auction will run it’s full time and end with a bunch of bidders to send second chance offers to. If they answered a question when the listing was running, someone would spot the scam and turn it into eBay, who would eventually pull the listing blowing the scammers cover.

So the scammer waits until the listing ends and sends out emails to all the bidders, working each one of them at a time.

A scammer could potentially have 42 suckers to prey on as that’s how many bids this Jaguar received.

Also as you can see in the below screen video, this scam website is somehow authenticating an eBay Members User ID and Password.

Scammers have somehow been able to use eBay’s API or otherwise somehow be able to externally access eBay to authenticate a members user info. I did a trace route and this fraudsters website is somewhere in the UK. So my question is, How is a website in the UK able to connect to eBay and authenticate a members credentials?

AND once that User ID IS Authenticated, just what can a scammer get his hands on? This is a serious breach of eBay Security.

Best bet when looking at eBay Motors Vehicles is to keep an eye on your web browsers URL Window. And clever scammers will start out the url with something eBay to fool you.

It’s the whole url string you should look at. Sometimes the target website is hidden to the right of the browser window out of site. Put your mouse cursor in the window and use your right scroll key to get to the end of the line.

Note the wording in this Official email from eBay. It is worded in the scammers favor. So in a situation like this one eBay is inviting the bidder to be scammed!

So just beware when shopping for a car on eBay Motors, or any other website on the internet. Remember the motto – Trust No One! If you can’t personally inspect the vehicle and it’s supporting title documents, or hire a 3rd party inspector to do it for you, forget it!

Private eBay Motors Sellers Beware Of Buyer PayPal Fraud

Seems nothing has changed in this advance payment scam department.

I have seen so many attempted Private eBay Motors Buyer Scams it isn’t even funny. Scammers usually only prey on Private Sellers as they know the Dealers are well aware of their scams!

This morning i received an email from a private seller of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The official eBay Motors Auction Winner was attempting an Advance Payment Scam on the seller. The seller was smart and checked around to see if this was a scam or not before going ahead with the deal.

The way this scam works is. The scam buyer tries to convince the seller he has paid with PayPal and has included $1500 additional in the PayPal payment to be sent by Western Union to his shipping agent.

The scammer is using PayPal’s funds hold policy to claim the funds are being held until the seller sends that $1500 shipping fee to his agent. After the seller sends the $$ by Western Union and emails the MTU Number to PayPal the funds are supposed to be released to the seller. Only thing is, It’s all a scam and no money was ever sent to the sellers PayPal Account to begin with.

If the seller would have sent that $1500 VIA Western Union he would have been had! Good guys 1 Scammers 0!

Here is some helpful advice to hopefully get your vehicle sold and paid for.

#1. PayPal does not accept Payment in FULL for Vehicles (cars, motorcycles, boats, rvs, air planes) The most a vehicle seller can accept via PP for a vehicle is $3,000! I always advise vehicle sellers to only accept a small deposit via PayPal, usually $200-300 is sufficient to ensure a buyer is serious about completing the transaction. The safest method for getting paid for a vehicle is a Bank to Bank wire transfer. Once a buyer sends the money it can’t be reversed and is safe and secure in your bank account.

#2. There is no such thing as an eBay Agent that collects money for sellers. This is a very popular scam that is usually used with the eBay Motors VPP Scam that the FBI recently announced via their www.ic3.gov Website. If you were defrauded in an internet transaction be sure to file a report there!

#3. You have to protect yourself when listing a vehicle on eBay Motors. One of the things eBay refuses to do is verify or regulate bidders on vehicles or any other high dollar item. To eBay this Harley Davidson was SOLD and charged the seller a TSF (transaction service fee) on vehicles to get around dealer licensing laws. Vs FVF on eBay Core. If you get whacked by a scam buyer be sure to file an Unpaid Item Strike against the buyer to get your TSF back!

#4. Be sure to Set Your Buyer Requirements. This is the most important step you can take to protect yourself against scam buyers. The 1st and most important thing to do is require anyone that bids have a PayPal account. This setting alone will block scammers like the below (already naru example). You can also block buyers who have had unpaid item strikes filed against them. You can also pull your bidders contact info and Call Them On The Telephone to verify their sincerity. And block bidders in countries that you do not ship. This option should be well thought out before selecting it.

If you are selling a collector car, buyers in Europe love old American Cast Iron and have the $$ to pay for it. So if that’s what you are selling think twice before blocking buyers from Europe. Also do not hesitate if a European buyer wants to send pmt by bank wire transfer. This is the preferred choice of Europeans paying for vehicles. And like i said above it’s best to ask for a small $200-300 deposit via PayPal to seal the deal after the auction ends.

#5. Spell out your Payment Terms in your listing. Be sure to specify any deposit amount, and when it is required. Usually within 24-48 hours. Note that PayPal vehicle deposits are NON Refundable, and you should specify that in your listing. Specify how the balance should be paid (bank wire transfer is best), and how long a buyer has to send payment in full. Also be sure to specify how much time a buyer has to pick up the vehicle. NEVER NEVER Take more than a small deposit by PayPal. The PayPal account could be stolen, or the buyer files a charge back if funding the PayPal pmt by credit card. PayPal will take that money back out of your PP account or attached bank acct or credit card on file in a NY Minute! It’s not worth taking the chance to a stranger in another state or country that you do not know! Last but not least, if you are selling a used car, it should be Sold AS-IS with no warranty.

Even though eBay Motors Vehicle Auction bids and Fixed Price Listings are NON BINDING! It’s still best and cover your azz and spell it all out in your listing to eliminate any confusion after the sale is made.

It’s real tough these days getting a vehicle sold on eBay Motors AND Paid For! But if you protect yourself you have as good of a shot as anyone of coming out a winner in the end!

eBay Warnings About VPP Fraud

I see the FBI IC3 has finally issued a fraud warning about Scammers hawking eBay Motors VPP Protection Scams.

It appears that only after the FBI Issued their warning about eBay’s VPP being used by Scammers to defraud the general public on eBay Motors Itself, Craigslist and other sites, did eBay throw up a bunch of warnings, including one on the eBay Motors home page. They will only warn you about fraud after being forced to by other means.

I know we have been reporting these type of scams since Mid 2009 and were the 1st to screen capture a Scammers Fraudulent eBay Live Support Chat in action.

I suspect that eBay got word of this pending FBI VPP investigation. And in a desperate attempt to sweep the evidence i had collected under the rug, arranged for the devastating DdoS Attack on my server that took us offline for close to a month. This is the reason i put up a bunch of mirror websites that would continue spreading the word about Internet Vehicle Fraud if one or more of my consumer advocate websites were targeted again.

eBay Lies: Motors Vehicle Wire Transfer IS Allowed!

So beware if that car your found on eBay Motors, Craigslist, or anywhere else is priced too cheap to be for real. Scammers rely on Americans being greedy and thinking there scam is for real.

Also there is a strong possibility of Scammers accessing eBay Motors bidder info and sending false second chance offers to under bidders of closed auctions by franchised dealers. See this video we produced a few days ago on that subject.

If you can’t physically go look at and inspect a vehicle, or hire a 3rd party inspector to inspect that vehicle for you, DO NOT Send Payment for it. And whatever you do, don’t send money to an eBay Agent or send pmt by Western Union!

These Scammers are so slick.. They specialize in but one thing, Stealing YOUR Money and are very convincing! The false emails they send look real! See some examples here.

Somehow scammers are apparently gaining access into eBay’s API and sending out scan second chance offers on Legitimate eBay Motors Listings.

Pay special attention to the verbiage of this scammers email that was sent to a bidder on this 2008 Volkswagen Jetta. If you receive one of these emails be sure to call the dealer or seller by phone to verify the legitimacy of the offer!

After getting my eBayMotorsSucks.com back online after getting hit by a Ddos attack, and creating 16 Mirror Sites i decided to do a quick newsletter.

eBay had the trust and community back a long time ago. But the huge push for collecting fees by Meg Whitman was more important than the community and trust Pierre had founded eBay on. Meg literally strip mined the community and fattened her portfolio up while trusting eBay members were literally slaughtered by scammers that eBay did nothing about.

I personally think eBay Motors has hit rock bottom! So many good eBayers that believed in trust and community are gone.

But the scammers are still here! So just beware that that bargain buggy you just found that’s dirt cheap very well could be a scam! Don’t loose your money – Be an educated consumer!

I am also considering doing a monthly fraud awareness newsletter to let you the consumer know what’s new in the scammer community.

It’s interesting that someone behind eBay’s Corporate Network would be commenting on posts on this website. Though they usually go through a proxy server to hide their true identity.

The commenter followed a link to one of our postings over from Cappnonymous forums (another thorn in eBay’s side) where someone posted a link to THIS POST we published a few months ago about a Harley Davidson that had it’s odometer tampered with.

eBay has became just what it is these days. It’s a great place to buy cheap office supplies, and other stuff of low value. But i don’t think i would buy a Laptop or a Diamond on eBay.

While John Donahoe and his staff have done a pretty good job of getting rid of the bad sellers, and giving buyers pretty good purchase protection, It seems they have not done much to clean up eBay Motors.

eBay has managed to totally destroy a website that built trust into the car business back in it’s early days. I personally think eBay could clean this garbage dump up, but just don’t care any more.

eBay Motors lures a newbie in to sell his family sedan under a FREE Listing. Yea there is a $125 FVF if it sells, (transaction service fee – to get around vehicle licensing laws). But the newbie seller has no idea how to protect themselves and soon winds up with a sport bidder, or a Nigerian scammer trying to work an advance payment scam on the seller. But it’s Caching right in the eBay cash register $125 in the bank. The newbie might try this 3 or more times and Caching, Caching, Caching, right in the eBay Corporate Till. Most sellers don’t know they can get those fees back by filing an unpaid item dispute, and just give up!

This is a Rigged Game! eBay knows the chances of getting a deadbeat or scammer to end a listing is real good. They know who is bidding and buying cars on their website. Did you know that a car dealer selling on eBay Motors can request an Immediate Deposit via PayPal, but a private seller can not.

Requesting an immediate deposit is the best way to list a vehicle at fixed price on eBay Motors. But Joe Average listing the family sedan can not protect themselves using this method, and Caching the eBay Corporate Till rings up another SALE! Too bad the Buyer Never PAID the seller!

eBay needs to clean this Garbage Dump Up! Get rid of the deadbeat and shill bidders. Require anyone that bids on an Automobile to be verified somehow. Even Yahoo was years ahead requiring anyone that bid on a car have a Yahoo Wallet.

It’s all about TRUST to make something like a Vehicle Sale online work. eBay used to have that trust, but collecting fees and milking the Golden Goose to Death was more important than Enforcing the Credibility and Trust among trading partners. Now look at the untrustworthy mess eBay Motors has became!

Meanwhile.. I see that eBay Never Fixed Their XSS Redirect Flaw that we have reported for many many years!

Not surprisingly, the cross scripting, xss, and/or flash manipulation scam is alive and well on ebay, this time documented by a casual observer. This has also been documented time and again by myself and others on Youtube BTW.

For those not aware, these ID stealing flaws, through careful research, have been shown to exist uncorrected on ebaY for as long as 11+ years now.

What’s even more alarming: you don’t need to actually sign in to any phake login page to have your credentials stolen, thanks to the cookie stealing variant of this hack.

Top that off with the fact that ebay’s own policy is to blame the user/victim.

Numerous comments at my youtube videos also indicate that victims are treated poorly and unprofessionally by ebaY’s customer service reps.

Trying to find a part for your family sedan can be a chore too. The parts compatibility program might be a good idea f it worked right. That’s another subject within itself!

Through the years as computer and internet technology has evolved, so have the scammers! And the scammers are down right sneaky, and are pros at what they do best.. Steal Money from GREEDY GULLIBLE PEOPLE that think there is a Bargain Car at the end of the Rainbow!

Unfortunately most folks don’t realize they have been scammed until after the fact. They then search for the sellers name and find websites like this one in a desperate attempt to recover their money, which unfortunately for them is long gone!

One such scammer is a Romanian Teenager, Ghiuri Simionescu, pictured to your right. Ghiuri along with thousands of other fraudsters are getting rich on “greedy sheep” as they call American Suckers!

There seems to be an unlimited supply of suckers willing to part with their hard earned money! By falling for these scams we are enabling the cons from abroad. If there were no easy marks, the scammers would be out of business!

Internet scams got their start on eBay but eventually spread to Craigslist, Autotrader.com, and hundreds of smaller sites, and even newspaper classifieds paid for with someones stolen credit card.

No website or publication is immune to these kind of scams. The best way to spot a scam is the unusually low price, and often only one photo, and a message to email the seller for more photos. This opens the door for the scammer to start reeling the sucker in. Don’t fall for it.

The scams are far from gone since the early days of screaming in big letters on a listing “BUY ME NOW FOR $6400 USD”, the scammers have became better educated on how they work their scams with much more trickery and low key deceit.

Scammers often even have their own VPP scam lookalike websites, that even have fake live support to reel the suckers in.

One such site is pictured in this video we produced last year.

And no matter what website you are on, beware of scammers that list a car and embed redirect code into the listing. The whole idea of this scam is to bait a popular website with a cheap priced automobile (usually under a hijacked account) and wait for the suckers to click onto the listing. The prospective buyer is then swept away in a flash to a scam “look alike website” where the victim is quickly snared in this cleverly baited trap.

Of course sometimes these scammers get busted! But unfortunatly European Scammers are like Roaches. Kill one and a hundred more take that ones place!

An Example How Escrow Works

This post is regarding a recent eBay Motors transaction on a high dollar collector car. It is not that escrow.com is fraudulent, but a seller that uses this service for an expensive vehicle may not realize that the buyer pretty much holds all the cards. It is very good reading for anyone selling a car that is considering using escrow.

Escrow was originally intended for expensive items like jewelry or a Rolex watch, or other expensive items.

But a used car is an item that different people will no doubt have different opinions of it’s condition. A car is a part of a persons personality. What may look exceptional to you and i might not please it’s buyer, especially after a few weeks waiting for it to arrive.

At the big collector car auctions like Barret Jackson the impulse buying and awe factor is quick and easy. A buyers love at first sight is quickly bought and the transaction is quickly finalized before the buyer can suffer “buyers remorse”. It’s a done deal and it’s the buyers new baby whether he falls out of love at 2nd sight or not it’s his with no backing out!

Using escrow gives the buyer plenty of time to ask his friends their opinion etc. And to find some excuse to back out of the deal and return the car to the seller. This is a story of one of those kind of transactions gone bad.

Here is a 2005 Ford F-350 Lariat Diesel 4X4 that is a total loss vehicle.

No Accidents LOL!

The seller is straight up that it’s a wreck. It’s also obvious from looking at the photos. Except the mileage is stated as having 10,500 miles. I bet he meant to say it has 110,500 by looking at the history report.

However the eBay Motors included Experian Auto Check history report is flying a “91 Score” It is also saying it’s never been in an accident. LOL!

For starters, just how does Experian come up with a Title Score of 91 on a truck with 4 owners? And over 100K Miles? Much less totally misrepresenting this truck as having a clean title?

What is going to happen is, someone looking for a fix-er-upper is going to go in and look at the photos, look at the history report, not read the sellers description, bid on it and wind up winning the auction. THEN find out it has a Salvage Title! The fur will end up flying big time, especially if the winning bidder puts up a deposit and the seller does not want to refund it. Angry buyer ends up Negging the seller. And of course eBay will not remove the unjust negative feedback.

I’ve seen this sort of thing happen many times. The whole idea of a history report is to provide accurate vehicle history.

It seems eBay Motors has dropped VPP on Motorcycles.

This buyer purchased the above 2007 Harley Davidson FXDB Street Bob with 6,222 Miles. It was even advertised as having LOW Miles!

The buyer went and inspected the bike and it drove well. Then paid the seller and took the title. After calling the local Illinois DMV to inquire about how to register it, the seller found out it was purchased as a repo in 2009 with 18,772 Miles!

Meanwhile the buyer has stated that eBay VPP denied the purchase protection claim because it was a motorcycle, and not listed in the Passenger Vehicle or RV and Campers Section. Since when does a Camper have an odometer? The seller is laughing at the buyer and saying SUE ME!

Only on eBay Motors where they give away a FREE Experian Auto Check Vehicle History Report. Hereby called Auto Farce!

Anyway.. Here we have a 1988 Pontiac Fiero. It was offered for sale on eBay Motors by TWO Different Sellers. It’s the SAME CAR! Has the SAME VIN! But Auto Farce had a Different Score for each sellers listing.

Lets See Here.. Seller 1 lists this 88 Pontiac Fierro and Auto Farce lists it as having 7 Owners and gives it a title score of only 7 which is nearly as low as they get!

Seller 2 buys this same 1988 Fiero from Seller 1. Then takes new photos and lists the came car on eBay Motors. Wow.. It’s a Miracle.. Auto Farce NOW gives this SAME CAR a Score of 20 and lists it as having 4 Owners!

No Wonder eBay Motors is GIVING AUTO CHECK AWAY FOR FREE! Where is Experian digging this data up from? Are they pulling it out of a magic hat like a rabbit? Nobody knows i guess. But one thing is for sure. If your considering buying a car on eBay Motors what ever you do don’t rely on Experian Auto Check to give an accurate description of a vehicles history. Do yourself a favor.. Purchase a CarFax Report! CarFax is the Authority On Vehicle History Reports.

It’s Been An Interesting Week On eBay Motors Forums!

First there was this 2006 Ford F-350 XLT Diesel Dually with a Salvage Title. This discussion has over 100 postings. The truck is indeed a flat out bargain even with a salvage title. That is IF it’s been properly repaired, and if the buyer can transfer it’s title in his home state. Lots of things just don’t add up on this one, Truck is in Mass but it’s got Oregon tags on it, and has an LA title. But the seller seems to have an answer for everything! The buyer is really using suggested due diligence and asking the necessary questions before flying to Mass from Florida to pay the seller and pick it up. HERE Is The Discussion on eBay’s Forums. This discussion is suggested reading for anyone that’s considering buying a vehicle online!

Next is the eBay Member that bought a Classic Panel Truck on eBay Motors and is getting a shipping run around from the seller. This buyer actually listed the truck he bought on eBay Motors to apparently give the seller (A Clearwater FL Dealer – Golden Classics) some Negative PR. I have to give him a big thumbs up for that!

And then there is the one “Fucked By An eBay Motors Seller“ Seems that KIP KILLMON’S TYSONS FORD Misrepresented an old Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel. Guess the buyer never reviewed the sellers feedback. That feedback really sucks! There is nothing like buying some old rusted out POS from the Northeast USA.

This buyer “Obviously A Blond” bought this old rusted out POS Nissan Pathfinder for 3K and is whining to eBay to help her out. Had she had it inspected FIRST before buying she wouldn’t be stuck like chuck! There is ABSOLUTELY NO eBay VPP Coverage on any vehicle older than 10 Years. And there is an out clause that they can use for COVERED Vehicles IF the buyer didn’t have it Inspected!

Then last but not least. Here is the guy that bought a Motor Cycle on eBay Motors. But can’t contact the seller AFTER Paying the $1400.00 Deposit through PayPal. Interesting wording in the listing “selling because of custody battle need cash fast call 225 2465765” OUCH! I wouldn’t have sent a penny up front after reading that. PayPal does not cover Vehicle Deposits! So unless the seller comes through, this buyer might wind up stuck like Chuck. That is unless he funded his PayPal payment with a credit card and can initiate a charge back with his card company.

There are some real good deals on eBay Motors – but you have to do your homework and inspect the vehicle, check the title for any liens etc. 77HKWR2U5RUN

I Will Inspect Before I Bid When Buying On eBay!

Yet another buyer unhappy when buying a car for a wholesale price on eBay Motors!

Seems to me that a 2002 Cadillac Seville STS was a bargain for $3750.00! But it’s buyer apparently does not think so.

Personally speaking from past experience learned the hard way I must say. It’s best to be sure a car has a good battery when it’s being delivered. That and be sure it’s tires all hold air, and it has at least 1/8th tank of fuel. There is nothing worse than a trucker’s attitude when a car won’t start and he has to climb on the top rack to jump it off. It also does not make a good impression on the buyer who has waited for his new car to arrive only to learn from the truck driver it won’t start! OUCH!

This buyer came up with a grocery list of repairs needed, and at what appears outrageously high retail prices. Sounds higher than a Caddy dealership to me.

Now the buyer is very angry with the seller and wants compensation for the repairs. The seller clearly sells wholesale units, and as it says in the listing “this vehicle has not been inspected and is sold as-is with no warranty of any kind” plus some other legal mambo jumbo. The seller goes on to say he invites inspections by anyone interested in buying.

Had the buyer had the vehicle inspected by a qualified inspector this rift would not be going on now. (eBay has a company they recommend) and there are many others if someone does a Google Search for vehicle inspections.

So there ya go! If you buy a vehicle on eBay Motors sight unseen and don’t have it inspected you could wind up being stuck like chuck! One of the exclusions of the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection program is coverage of a covered item if the vehicle was not inspected!

Like Bart Simpson said above.. I WILL INSPECT BEFORE I BID!

What Happened To All The Cars On eBay Motors?

eBay Motors seems to have lost it’s allure.

The other day I was researching a 2010 Honda on eBay Motors, and was surprised that there was only 34, 2010 used Honda’s on the whole site. That number seemed really low especially that the 2010′s have been out close to a year now.

Puzzled i went to the eBay Motors home page and searched for ALL Honda’s (used) and a total of all years makes and models of Honda’s was only 1038. I thought best match search was the culprit and repeated the search.

Sure Enough It Was The Same As Before

To compare this number of Used and CPO Honda’s I went to Autotrader.com and repeated the search.

Lots of Used and CPO Honda’s on AutoTrader.com 86,404 of them to be exact!

Geezzzz.. What has happened to the Number One Automotive Site on the Internet? Has John Donahoe ran that many sellers off?

I then decided to see how many other makes were on eBay Motors. Acura 409, Chrysler 591, Hyundai 192, Infinity 448, Lincoln 525, Mazda 430, Plymouth 358, etc etc. Those numbers appear to be way down from a few years ago.

From what I read on the eBay Motors Forums it’s the new and private sellers complaining of deadbeat bidders that either don’t pay or try and pull the old fake cashiers check scam on them. While eBay gives a seller 4 free vehicle listings a year, the FVF is $125! Then if the seller can’t figure out how to file for a FVF refund that money goes right into eBay’s bank account. Anyone can set up an eBay account with an anonymous email account and bid hundreds of thousands of dollars and not pay.. All with eBay’s blessings.

File an unpaid item strike on a 0 feedback bidder, all they have to do is respond to the strike, then go leave the seller a Negative Feedback and the seller can’t do a thing about it. eBay just don’t care. They are 100% pro buyer at their sellers expense.

Now i read eBay has messed the parts category up something fierce. Mega sellers are using the new Hollander parts compatibility feature to spam the search results. Go search for a part for your 1931 Studebaker and have dozens of pages of generic floor mats, steering wheel covers, and other junk come up first before a legitimate sellers used part you were searching for. A couple of sellers that i know of have recently closed their eBay stores. It’s just not worth it any more.

So here we are – the BEST Automotive Website in the World has been turned into a Old Turd by John Donahoe and his World ASS Management Team.

Meanwhile buyers are still getting their pockets picked by Scammers who are running redirect scams, and are using what looks like eBay’s own code against them. It’s just one thing after another.

Anyone feel like building a site to accommodate all the eBay sellers that have abandoned ship?

eBay Motors Seller Arrested & Tossed In Jail Over Truck Sale!

Seller offers an old 66 GMC Pickup on eBay Motors earlier in the year. An older collector truck that had a an assigned state of Indiana VIN plate and legitimate title / registration.

Seller properly listed the vehicles VIN and title type in his listing. Buyer won the auction and after paying the seller decided he didn’t want the truck. Seller refused to refund buyers money and all he** broke loose.

Seller NARU Buyer Unhappy That’s What You Get For A LOW Price!

Another crappy deal on the Web’s Previous #1 Automotive Website – eBay Motors.

I had to screen grab this thread on eBay’s Motors Discussion Board for kicks. From how i read it, the buyer thought he was getting a good deal. But that cheap price for a Volvo XC90 from Massachusetts was apparently rougher than a night in a MA Jail. Hmmmmm…

The buyer got the usual 3rd degree from the board regulars – but is holding his own. It’s turned into somewhat of a bar brawl with 10 pages and over 150 posts in a few short hours! Here is a link to the discussion board thread. Wonder how long this thread will last before eBay pulls it?

Anyway on to the buyers problem. When eBay suspends a seller (NARU) they wipe the system of that sellers 60 days of sales history. So if someone has a problem with a transaction and needs a print out or screen grab they are stuck like chuck! Sometimes a cashed listing can be pulled from a web search, but not with this listing.

Best bet if buying a vehicle on eBay Motors is to have it inspected if you are not within driving distance. Oh well another nail driven into the eBay coffin by John Donahoe who has ran most of his good sellers off. But it don’t really matter anyway.. J.D. will probably soon spin PayPal off on it’s own IPO, then who cares what happens to the rotting carcass of eBay that’s left behind!

Wow.. The Energizer Bunny could never keep up with this Long Running eBay Scam!

Item Number: 320499691440 has been running for nearly 6 Days out of a 7 Day Auction. It changes from an Auction to a BUY NOW after redirecting to harmonyebay.com where if you click that BUY NOW BUTTON it authenticates your confidential eBay user name and password and gives the scammer your info.

From there the scammer will be sending you fake eBay emails instructing you to bank wire the money to the eBay Agent assigned to your transaction. This eBay Agent is somebody that fell for a work from home scam and accepts payment, keeps their 10-20% commission, then wire the balance to another party. The scammer will probably rinse the funds several times to cover his tracks.

Long story short – If you fall for this scam your money is gone! eBay will deny this ever existed and their VPP will not cover it either! So if you stumble on one of these redirect scams on eBay or eBay Motors don’t sent the money to the scammer!

It’s Saturday Morning and apparently Nobody is home in San Jose!

This 2007 Chevy Tahoe Redirect Scam (320499691440) that I reported on last night is still up and scamming! It has been up at least 2 days now and has had over 5000 page views! That’s a lot of potential victims of eBay Auction Fraud.

This morning i took a better look at the source codes of both the eBay Listing and the Scammers Listing on the scam website. I’m no Javascript or PHP expert, but there is some script get commands from scgi.ebay.com in there. One thing for sure is, Scammers are able to authenticate your Confidential eBay User Info and if they can get that, they probably can get your financial information too!

Hmmmm.. I thought eBay FIXED This Redirect Scam!

This is the same 07 Chevy Tahoe Photos scammers used last month to redirect potential buyers OFF Of eBay to a Scammers Trap!

One user lost $15,200 to the same scam last month. eBay told her it was an off eBay deal and they would not cover it under their Vehicle Purchase Program. She was even told by eBay’s Live Help it was legitimate and covered under the ebm vpp! That’s a lot of money to loose!!

Ina Steiner of auctionbytes.com reported on the last one i found. She contacted eBay Motors, who sent her back a typical eBay BS PR Response!

eBay Motors is constantly and proactively monitoring the site to prevent and address possible fraudulent behavior. As part of this monitoring, eBay Motors has identified recent redirect issues and has implemented specific safety measures, including updating our detection systems with a filter to identify this particular behavior. These additional protections should supplement smart shopping habits, including reviewing seller ratings, communicating with sellers and confirming transaction details through My eBay before making a purchase, and never paying for a vehicle via instant cash-transfer methods. eBay Motors also offers free vehicle history reports and a Vehicle Purchase Protection program for transactions that occur on the site, to help ensure the 10 million visitors coming to the site each month interact in a safe, trusted marketplace.

I was able to use a bogus eBay User ID and Password that was promptly rejected by the scam site “harmonyebay.com” In Austria. It’s one thing to get redirected to a fake website – but to have that fake website authenticate your eBay credentials is another!

Updated 03/13/2010: Here is a follow up video showing this scam listing still running Saturday Morning. As of around 3:00 PM EST it was still up and had well over 5000 Page Views!

Here is another low profile collector car scam on eBay Motors. 1936 LaSalle coupe. It looks like the same car scam that we captured back in December 2009.

Scammers are now trying to maintain a low profile to stay in business on eBay Motors. They list a car like this one with a single photo, and start the bidding low. They hope you will contact them and request more photos and information about the car. If the bids get too high the scammers simply cancel them.

The whole idea of this low profile scam is to try and fly under eBay’s radar. If you swallow their bait hook line and sinker, they will be sending you fake eBay vehicle protection program emails that look like they came from eBay – but they are sent by the scammers!

eBay Motors XSS Redirect Scam Caught On Screen Video!

Wow.. Those eBay Scammers Sure Are Slick!

Watch as this 2007 Chevy Tahoe listing sweeps me off of eBay to a hacked website. In order to capture this scam on screen video i used my Blackberry as an IP Modem to slow the action down. Normally the second you enter the hacked eBay listing you would be swept away without a clue – that is unless you are watching your URL Window!

eBay is without a doubt NOT SAFE! These redirect scams have been going on at least since 2006. There is evidence of this in my scam archive HERE. I guess eBay don’t care about this US-CERT that was issued by the Government in 2006!

If you have to use eBay – do so with extreme caution!

812 Feedback eBay Member Since 2001 Scammed Out Of $15,200

Here is an eBay member in good standing since 2001 with a total feedback score of 812 – that is 100% positive.

In this eBay Motors Forum thread he claims he was scammed out of $15,200 on a vehicle. Naturally eBay is not helping and the eBay Motors VPP is denying claim because eBay pulled the listing as fraudulent.

oi8abug has said in this discussion board thread that he contacted live help and was told the listing was valid, and covered by eBay VPP Protection. He also claims he knows eBay well, as he should with 812 FB and 10 years experience!

However the listing was a very clever scam perpetrated on eBay and not a redirect as we are all so used to. Hopefully he posts an item number, I would like to find a cashed copy of it on one of the search engines.

eBay members come to the discussion boards to ask advise about listings legitimacy, share fraud avoiding advice, and to give advice in general. And in an apparent attempt to sweep the knock off fraud under the rug, eBay has banned members from asking if a listing is or was a scam on the boards!

Lots more Vehicle Buyers will get scammed if this policy is enforced on eBay Motors Forums. And eBay could care less who gets scammed on their site!

It’s a shame that a site that was built on trust can not be trusted!

eBay Motors Collector Car Scams Are Becoming Low Profile!

I published THIS VIDEO yesterday afternoon on YouTube about 10 Collector Car Scams that all had similar scammer markings. eBay in all there collective way of keeping buyers safe on the site pulled a discussion board post about there scams.

eBay has to know there is a lot of fraud on their website – but loves the fees that are charged to someones stolen credit card or hijacked sellers account, so they would rather pull public postings about scams than pull the scam listing itself.

This morning there was only 3 of the scam listings remaining. But their was a person posting on the EBMDG that they were robbed! I published this follow up video to show how the scammers are working their listings. It’s the holiday season and the scammers seem to be increasing their eBay motors listings to fund their holiday spending.
