Queridos Juan Carlos, Yolanda y Victoria,
Sería bueno comenzar este post confesando que después de mucho tiempo, estaba nerviosa. No sé por que era, pero en mi corazón siempre está el anhelo de enfrentar el desafío de capturar a mis familias de la forma más real y natural posible. Me pregunté varias veces mientras tomaba las fotos, ¿habrá salido bien? ¿me habré perdido de algo?.
Pero ustedes hicieron que la experiencia fuera tan divertida. Realmente disfruto mucho hacer esto. Siento que ustedes me dieron el privilegio de observar la intimidad de su dinámica familiar, y eso es muy especial.
La pequeña Victoria, tan graciosa. Me encantó ver la evolución de su personalidad en unos 60 minutos, y observar como exploraba y tanteaba con todo lo que le rodeaba.
Me encantó verlos juntos como familia, ver que son personas reales, graciosas, super cómodas con mi cámara.
Muchas gracias por la paciencia, por confiar en mi para tomar estas fotos. Estoy segura que estas fotos son especiales para ustedes, pero aunque no lo crean, son aún más especiales para mi. Porque CADA foto que creo, lo hago con mucho cariño.

Por cierto, felicitaciones por el nuevo miembro de la familia :). Le pueden decir que SÍ salió en estas fotos :))

Espero que hayan disfrutado las fotos, pero sé que las disfrutarán más, de aquí a unos cinco años ;)

Lima es la segunda ciudad más grande construida en una desierto, después de El Cairo. Caminas por sus calles y ves la presencia de algunos esporádicos árboles, y no te imaginas que en realidad estas en un desierto.

Nunca llueve, bueno "llueve" pero aquellos que vienen de otras ciudades se ríen de nuestra "lluvia" jaja, no los culpo. Y tal vez por eso es que cuando veo lluvia abundante, ésta captura toda mi atención. ¿Cómo es, no? Cuando no tenemos algo, lo valoramos las veces que sí lo podemos tener..

aquí les dejo algunas fotos del desierto y de la lluvia de Huánuco.

Con flores en el pelo, muchas risas y una pequeña curiosa, me aventuré a capturar una historia más.
Es tan bello ver como los pequeños interactúan con sus padres, y esta vez no fue la excepción. La pequeña y testaruda Valentina, hizo que su mamá la persiga por todos lados, y Lucerito con toda la paciencia del mundo, conversaba y acompañaba a su pequeña hija.
Los colores y sus rostros tan fotogénicos, hicieron que esta colección de memorias fuera una de mis preferidas :)

It is truly beautiful to watch parents interact with their little ones, and this wasn't the exception. The little stubborn Valentina, made her mom chase after her everywhere she went and Lucerito with all the patience of the world, would talk and walk along her little daughter.
The colors and their very photogenic faces, made this collection of memories one of my faves :)

Bueno, la verdad es que soy pésima escribiendo cosas bonitas jaja. Tal vez por eso me gusta tanto la fotografía, porque con ella SÍ puedo decir cosas de una manera bonita.
Aquí les traigo una nueva historia, que me gusta mucho primero porque Alfredo es como mi hermano. Lo conozco desde los cinco años y a pesar de los años, seguimos siendo amigos. Segundo, porque decidió copiarse y tener una relación a distancia jaja. Pero me encanta, es tan inspirador ver el amor de otras personas porque es tan distinto a lo que uno puede hacer. Bueno, que disfruten esta historia, tan lleno de Alfredo y Consu.

Secret of a photo taker

Por alguna extraña razón, suena lógico que por hacer retratos lindos con gente una este acostumbrada a las fotos. Pero NO.

Me encanta pensar en como crear retratos que expresen momentos reales, y a veces estoy tan acostumbrada a estar detrás del lente, que me olvido que también puedo estar delante de él. No me emociona la idea en verdad, sin embargo es bueno experimentar de vez en cuando y recordar lo que mis clientes, perdón, mis amigos :) sienten cuando hay un aparato delante de ellos cohibiendo su personalidad y existencia jaja.

A mi novio se le ocurrió sorprenderme con una sesión de fotos y de pronto me asusté, dije: y ahora, no sé que ponerme, me da flojera, que roche jaja. Fue increíble, porque paré por un momento y me di cuenta que todos esos pensamientos son los que pasan por las cabezas de las personas con las que tengo el privilegio de trabajar. Pero bueno, igual me tomé las fotos, en verdad me puse lo primero que encontré y Kimberly consiguió crear arte y regalarnos bellas imágenes.

Fue genial, pero aún así no estoy acostumbrada. ¿ Y ustedes que sienten cuando les toman fotos? :)

//It may sound coherent to say that because I am use to make beautiful portraits of people I am used to pictures. But that's not TRUE.

I love to think about how to create portraits that express real life moments, and sometimes I'm so used to being behind that lens that I forget than i can actually be in front. That idea doesn't bring much excitement to me, but i think it is good to experiment every once in a while to remember what my clients, excuse me, friends feel whenever they have a THING in front of them making them feel awkward and maybe uncomfortable in their own skin.

My fiancé decided to surprise me with a photo shoot and i seriously freaked out, i told myself: now what!, what should i wear?, i'm too lazy to think about this, this is embarrassing haha. It was great, because it helped me to stop and realize that maybe those are the thoughts that the people i have to privilege to work with have every time. But anyways, i still did the photo shoot, i wore whatever i found and Kimberly used her art to create beautiful images.

It was awesome, yet im not used to this. ¿And you, how to you feel when people take your photos?

Colores, pinceles, brochas, textura .. hay tantas cosas que puedes encontrar en la maleta de un artista. Pero esta artista es muy especial porque su lienzo no es un objeto sino el rostro.
Barbara, o Babi como le dicen todos, utiliza el maquillaje con mucha delicadeza y arte para poder resaltar la belleza natural de las mujeres.

Su manera de ser la transmite al momento de maquillar y hace que toda la experiencia sea divertida. Babi ahora también es parte de mi equipo y para todas las bellas mujeres que quieran resaltar aún más su belleza, pueden contar con este gran talento.

Y con ese sentido del humor y una gran sonrisa, me dio las gracias por el retrato :)

4:30 am.
No podía ni pensar, solo quería un café jaja. Pero era hora de levantarnos para apoyar una aventura más en la vida de este campeón, al que puedo llamar hermano.

Hace algunos años hablé de él aquí y del largo viajo que ha sido su rehabilitación. Pero su determinación y perseverancia no deja de sorprendernos.
Esta vez decidió competir en una carrera, pero era una muy particular. Wings For Life es una organización que se encarga de investigar para encontrar la cura a la lesione de médula espinal. Cada año hacen una carrera en varias ciudades del mundo en simultáneo para poder recaudar fondos, por eso es que comenzó en Lima a las 5am!!! jaja. Igual estuvimos ahí, listísimos. Lo interesante es que esta carrera tiene una meta móvil que una vez que te alcanza se termina tu carrera.

Mi hermano Jorge me decía: No creo que llegué muy lejos, espérenme por aquí nomás.
Pero sorprendió a todos y a sí mismo, al llegar a 53 kms y ser el tercero en la carrera. Fue muy emocionante, estuvimos al lado de él en los últimos 30 kilómetros, y no podíamos creer como seguía avanzando. Jorge es muy valiente, perseverante y fuerte. Lo admiro, lo respeto y estoy muy orgullosa de lo que ha logrado hasta el día de hoy. Nos ha enseñado mucho a todos los que tenemos el privilegio de conocerlo de cerca. Espero que su valentía los inspire en este día :).

I couldn't even think, i just wanted coffee haha. But it was time to get up and join this champ i have the privilege to call my brother, in his new adventure.

A few years ago, i talked about him here and his long journey towards rehabilitating. But his determination and perseverance never stops to amaze us.
This time he decided to compete in this race, but it was a special one. Wings for Life is a foundation that does research to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. Every year they organize a race that happens simultaneously in many cities, in order to collect funds for their work. This is why it was 5 am in Lima by the time it started, but we were still there very ready. The interesting thing about this race is that it has a mobile finish line and by the time it reaches you, you had finished your race.

My brother, Jorge would tell me: I don't think i will make it too far, just wait close by.
But he ended up surprising us and himself as he reached 53 km and ended up in third place. It was very exciting, we followed along his side for the last 30 km and we couldn't believe that he just kept going. Jorge is very brave, persevering and strong. I admire and respect him and I am so proud of what he has achieved 'til this very day. He has taught all of us so much. I hope his courage can inspire you today :).

Creative Dreams

- ¡Hola reina, dime qué bajo, qué necesitas que yo estoy lista"

Así es Maja, siempre amable, dulce y delicada para ayudarte. Todavía recuerdo los días del colegio en los que se pintaba las uñas mientras resolvíamos un problema de mate o mientras leíamos en la clase de lenguaje, siempre única y elegante.

Los años han pasado, y ese estilo la ha llevado a ser la gran artista que es hoy. Con esfuerzo y mucha creatividad, Maja ahora trabaja con uno de los diseñadores de moda más reconocidos del país.

Su estilo delicado y elegante, fueron lo que escogí para empezar esta búsqueda fotográfica de personas que convirtieron su creatividad en un trabajo, o más bien en un estilo de vida. Ella es Maria Alejandra Nuñez, y recuerden su nombre porque pronto lo escucharán siempre.

// "Hey sweetheart, tell me what you need, what should i bring downstairs, im ready". That's Maja, always sweet, kind and delicate to help you. I still remember the high school days when she would do her nails during a math or literature class, always unique and elegant.

They years have gone by and that style is what makes her the great artist she is now. With much effort and creativity, Maja now works with one of the best fashion designers of the country.

Her delicate and elegant style, is what i chose to begin this photographic research of people whom have transform their creativity into their job, or maybe i should say, their lifestyle. She is Maria Alejandra Nuñez, and remember that name because soon enough you will hear it often.

The Coffee Talks

- ¿Arábica?, suena a algo medio árabe ¿no?.
- sí ma, pero no tiene nada que ver. ya vas a ver.

había ido ya un par de veces, pero investigando por la red, me di cuenta que tenían un nuevo local y con éste, un nuevo concepto y ambiente para disfrutar de una conversación amena.
a inicios del año, me había trazado una meta: conocer más cafés y descubrir quien tiene al más rico.
fue así que un día, decidí ir a Arábica y comenzar la travesía con mi mamá. pero a la vez, comenzar una serie de fotos que represente una de las cosas que más me gusta; tomar una taza de café.

ese día, empecé The Coffee Talks. mi mami, la protagonista. el café, un acompañante. el ambiente, preciso.

pausa* deben ir, es buenísimo el café*

todo era tan bonito. yo no dejaba de observar por todos lados como si fuese mi sobrino de cuatro años, en medio de Happyland, todo era bonito. el olor a café, la textura de la leche espumante, las personas alrededor. es más, creo que uno de los Bizetti estaba sentado ahí mismo hablando de negocios. quien sabe. sólo sé, que había empezado una de mis resoluciones de año nuevo con el pie derecho.

no quería que se acabe esa tarde. mi mami me miraba mientras tomaba su taza con las dos manos, y acercaba su café para seguir bebiéndolo.

- este mocha es el de verdad, ¡tiene chocolate de verdad!

sonreí y solo pude decirle a mi mami: es que este café en sí es un buen café.
no es que sea catadora de café, que por cierto debe existir pero con otro nombre, pero el tener una máquina expreso en casa con la que consigues un café fresco todas las mañanas te lleva a otros niveles de exigencia al momento de tomar café.

el aroma, no hay nada como el aroma del café.

i had been there a couple of times but researching on the internet i realized that they have opened a new shop and with it, a new concept was born and a new atmosphere to enjoy a nice conversation.
in the beginning of the year, i made a resolution: to find new coffee shops and discover which has the tastiest coffee.
and that is why i chose to go to Arábica and start this journey with my mom. and at the same time, a series of photos that could represent one of the things i like the most, to drink a cup of coffee.

that day i started with The Coffee Talks. my mommy, the main character. the coffee, the partner. the atmosphere, just the right one.

pause* you have to visit this place, coffee is extremely good*

everything was so pretty. i couldn't stop looking everywhere like if i was my 4 year old nephew at an arcade, everything was pretty. the smell of coffee, the texture of the steaming milk, the people around. in fact, i think one of the persons was the owner. but who knows. i just know that i was starting one of my new year goals started off on the right foot.

i didn't want that afternoon to be over. my mom was looking at me gently while taking her cup of coffee with her two hands, as she was bringing it closer to take a sip.

- this is a real mocha, it has real chocolate!

i smiled and told her: the coffee itself is just really good coffee.
i don't think of myself as a coffee taster, but having an expresso machine at home that allows me to make fresh coffee every time i desire, takes your coffee requirements to a new other level.

the aroma, there is nothing like the aroma of coffee.

el otro día, Cachito (mi sobrino) y yo decidimos hacer una manualidad, o como el le llama: "trabajito". yo no tenía ni idea de lo que el planeaba, así que seguí sus instrucciones paso a paso.

the other day, Cachito (my nephew) and I decided to do some crafts. I had no clue of what he had planned so I decided to just follow his instructions step by step.

1. Corte una hoja por la mitad

Cut a paper in half

2. Pon un poco de escarcha amarilla
Put some yellow glitter on it

3. Mientras los demás materiales descansan
While the other materials rest

4. Si el tubo de escarcha no sirve, córtalo y usa un palito para sacarla.
If the glitter tube doesn't work, cut it and use a stick to remove it.

5. Si te cansas, distraete un rato con algo más.
If you get tired, just distract yourself with something else.

6. Si pensaste que ya habías usado suficiente escarcha, te equivocas debes ponerle más.
If you thought you had used enough glitter, well you are wrong you need to put some more.

7. Repetir la cortadita del tubo.
Cut another glitter tube.

8. Usa colores.
Use color pencils.

9. Nunca puedes ponerle suficiente escarcha, así que ponle más.
There is no thing such as enough glitter so put some more.

10. Y un poco más.
And some more.

11. Descansa un poco más.
Rest some more.

12. Ahora es momento de usar la tempera.
Now is time to paint.

13. Pero solo los bordes.
But just the edges.

14. Usa varios colores
Use different colors

15. Espera a que seque una de las hojas y luego le pegas un palito en la parte de atrás.
Wait for one of the papers to dry a little and then with some tape, paste a stick on the back.

16. Finalmente le pegas la otra encima.
To finish you put the other paper on top.

17. Y listo!
And ready!

18. Es un abanico!
It is a paper fan!

- como la vida misma-

la verdad es que nunca he sido fanática de San Valentín, tampoco mi enamorado. pero desde que empezamos nuestra relación, el ha querido hacerme sentir especial, y decide aprovechar una fecha que es tan tonta para muchos, para demostrar cuánto me aprecia. el punto es que a pesar de estar a miles de kilómetros de distancia 9 meses al año, el aún así, busca la manera de demostrarme su amor de una manera práctica. si, súper cursi pero me encanta :)

espero que todos ustedes hayan tenido una celebración especial. celebremos la amistad y las locas relaciones que se dan a distancia ;)!

i have never been a huge fan of Valentines, neither is my boyfriend. but now that we are dating, he still wants to make me feel special and it is more like taking advantage of a silly date for many, to show his appreciation. the thing is even when we are thousands of miles away 9 months out of 12, he figures out a way to show his love in a practical way. yes, this sounds cheesy but i love it.

i hope you all had a special celebration, because i did. cheers! to friendship and crazy long distance relationships ;)!

- para la Gloria de Dios-

crecí en un hogar cristiano, con un pastor como padre. por partes lo disfrutaba y por ratos era difícil, perdón aún lo es. pero es increíble ver todas las bendiciones que trae pertenecer al ministerio de Dios y ser parte del "negocio familiar". el tiempo ha pasado, y ahora es Dios quien me da oportunidad de usar mis talentos para bendecir a otros y mostrarles siquiera un resplandor del amor de Dios, porque mi fortaleza humana nunca será suficiente para demostrar tan grande amor :)

uno de los privilegios que tengo es ayudar a personas que han decidido mudarse de país, de cultura, de idioma y de todo aquello que les es familiar para poder decirle sí a Dios y estar a su servicio. mi misión es ofrecerles una canal de comunicación a través del cual ellos puedan mostrar quienes son y otros puedan orar por ellos y por su trabajo. me refiero a fotos, y unas lindas para que puedan hacer unas tarjetas de oración que tengan su rostro y nombre para que nadie se olvide de ellos y puedan tenerlos presente siempre.

cada vez que recibo una llamada o un correo que dice: Erika! tenemos un misionero que necesita fotos!, mi corazón se llena de alegría porque es como una pequeña oportunidad que Dios me da para aportar un poquitito al gran trabajo que estas personas realizan, y eso es un GRAN pero GRAN privilegio. y enero trajo consigo muchos momentos de alegría, y aquí están. si los conoces, perfecto ya tienes como recordarles. sino los conoces, igual ora por ellos, tal vez algún día los conocerás :)

i grew up in a Christian home, with a pastor as a dad. sometimes i enjoyed it and some others were difficult, i mean it still is. but it is amazing to see all the blessings that come along with being part of the ministry of God and also being part of his "family business". time has flown by and now it is God who gives me the opportunity of using my gifts to bless others and show them a small glimpse of the Lord's love towards them, because in my own strength i will never be capable enough of showing them fully the love of God.

one of the privileges i have is to help people that have chosen to move from one country to another, from one culture to another, and from everything that was familiar to them to say yes to God and be at His service. my mission is to offer them a channel of communication through which they can show who they are and others can pray for their work. i'm talking about pictures, and pretty ones that can be used for their prayer cards, so that others can always remember to pray for them.

every time i receive a call or an email saying: Erika! we have a missionary that needs pics!, my heart jumps of joy because is like God is giving me a small chance of supporting the great work these people do, and that is a GREAT but GREAT privilege!. and january brought along many of these moments of joy, and here i share them with you. if you know them, awesome it will help you to pray for them. if not you can start doing it and who knows, maybe one day you will meet them :)

el año pasado trajo consigo muchos retos, simplemente porque la vida es así. los retos son importantes, pero cuando tocan esa área de tu vida en la crees que puedes ser "buena" y te demuestran lo contrario, te frustras. eso me pasó con las fotos, pero al final del túnel me di cuenta que valió la pena, aprendí mucho.

el ciclo pasado en la universidad, tuve el privilegio (porque SI fue una gran privilegio) de llevar un curso de fotografía con Jaime Rázuri . sabía quién era y sabía de su trabajo, pero definitivamente su clase excedió mis expectativas. si, fue súper difícil porque la experiencia lo obligó a ser muy exigente con aquello que podríamos llamar una "buena foto". me frustré mucho pero mientras más observaba atentamente alrededor, mejor entendía lo que me quería enseñar.

mi proyecto final tenía que ser algo que me gustara, y aunque me gustan los retratos, decidí salir de ese ambiente de comodidad y escogí como tema una casa. pero no una cualquiera, sino una en una calle x (porque llego por inercia), en la que cada cuarto y detalle arquitectónico lleva consigo recuerdos, historias y detalles que el tiempo no ha sido capaz de llevarse.

last year brought many challenges, just because thats the way life is. challenges are important, but when they touch that aspect of your life in which you think you are "good enough" and proof you wrong, you get frustrated. that happened to me with pictures, but at the end of the tunnel i realized that all of this was worth it, i learned a lot.

last semester at school, i had the privilege (cause it was A REAL privilege) of taking a photography class with Jaime Rázuri. i knew who he was and what kind of work he was into, but his class absolutely exceeded my expectations. yes, it was super hard because his experience forced him to be harsh and difficult at the moment of qualifying a picture as "a good one". i got very frustrated but as i observed more what was around me, the more and the better i understood what he was intending to teach me.

my final project had to be about something i really like, and although portraits are my thing, i chose to get out of my comfort zone and take a house as my subject. but it wasn't just any house, it was one located at some street (cause i just know how to get there by heart), in which every room and architectonic detail brought along memories, stories and details that would never change in despite of the time.

en verdad me frustra un poco estar ausente en este pequeño espacio que tengo en el internet. pero siempre hay oportunidad para un nuevo inicio.
y este año, comenzó con una perspectiva distinta.
ha sido un tiempo muy relajante, divertido y libre de la preocupación que viene con la perspectiva de negocio de las fotos. no me malinterpreten, es mi trabajo, pero más me importa la gente que fotografío que el dinero.
pero este mes fue para dar.

yo creo que Dios le ha obsequiado a cada uno habilidades con el objetivo de bendecir a otros. y la fotografía es esa oportunidad para mí.

este mes pude servir en una campamento de líderes juveniles que trabajan con jóvenes, ojo esto no es tan obvio como suena. pero volviendo al tema, tomé fotos toda la semana, de personas llenas de gozo y energía pero que sobre todo demostraba un deseo muy fuerte de seguir a Dios.
y a pesar de que esta aventura fue agotadora, debido a las otras responsabilidades que tenía en el retiro, valió muchísimo la pena.

cuando me senté a mirar las fotos en una pantalla mucho más grande, pude identificar rostros, emociones y momentos que tal vez me perdí por la locura del momento o me olvidé.
fue así que una vez más estuve agradecida por la fotografía.

aquí comparto con ustedes algunos de estos momentos y espero que los disfruten tanto como yo :).

i really dislike that I've been absent on this personal space of mine on the internet. but there is always time for a new fresh start.
and this year has began with a very different perspective. it has been fun, relaxing to not worry about the business aspect of photography. don't take me wrong, it is my job, but i care more about the people i portrait in my photos than money.
but this month was about giving.

i believe God gifts everyone with abilities to bless those around. and photography is that chance for me.

this month i was able to serve at a youth leaders retreat. i shot pictures all week long of people full of joy and energy but that displayed a great desire of pursuing God.
and even though this adventure was exhausting, due to the other responsibilities i had at the retreat, it was worth it.

as i sat down to look at all the pictures on a larger screen, i was able to identify faces, emotions and moments that i missed or forgot.
and once again i was thankful for photography.

here i share a few of these moments and i hope you enjoy them as much :).

Esta puede ser una larga historia, pero es mejor contar la versión de 2 minutos.
Aún recuerdo cuando éramos pequeñas y nos escribíamos cartitas, hablábamos de cosas que hoy en día ya no tienen sentido y compartíamos experiencias desde bailar hasta jugar cada deporte juntas.
Y aunque el tiempo pasa, y la distancia nos separó por un tiempo; existe una amistad más fuerte que todo. Es curioso, nunca supimos hasta dónde llegaríamos juntas y aquí estamos. Me imagino que así son las verdaderas amistades de la niñez :)
Así como la ven, ella es; alocada y graciosa, pero una gran persona.

This could be a long story but i will just share the 2 minute version.
I still remember when we were little and wrote each other letters, we would talk about things that certainly don't make sense nowadays and would share in different experiences from dancing to play every single sport together.
And even though time goes by, and distance kept us apart for a few years, there is this friendship that is stronger than anything. It is interesting, we never knew how far we would stay together and here we are. I guess this is how real childhood friendships are like :)
The way you see her, thats how she is, crazy and funny, yet a great person.

-algún día de marzo-

Siempre me ha sorprendido la habilidad que tiene el fútbol de unir a personas de TODAS PARTES DEL MUNDO, y que por un momento, no existan las diferencias y todos estén unidas por una misma pasión.

El fútbol y los otros deportes nos dan razones para valorarlos,y éstas son las lecciones que aprendemos a través de ellos. Tuve la oportunidad de ver a estas futuras estrellas del fútbol local, aprender y experimentar todas las emociones y situaciones que uno vive en un pequeño torneo.

Honestamente, siempre busco retratar en mis imágenes las cosas que apoyo, y estos pequeños niños no fueron la excepción. En verdad tenían mucho talento y estaban llenos de esperanza, energía y del deseo de obtener la victoria.La actitud de estos pequeños me desafió mucho, y se los agradezco. Me di cuenta que debemos mantener la sonrisa en nuestros rostros y que cuando anotamos un gol en el partido de la vida, debemos gritarlo con mucha fuerza.

Ay estos pequeños .. espero que puedan alcanzar sus metas y el deseo de su corazón ..

Soccer is truly something else. While in the US, people are living the football fever, the other side of the world shows excitement for the beginning of the Champions League.

I have always being amazed with the ability that soccer has of uniting people from ALL OVER THE WORLD, and for one moment, differences don't exist and everyone is able to be united in one passion.

Soccer and other sports offer genuine reasons to be appreciated, and these are the things that they teach us. I was able to see these future stars of the local soccer world, learn and experience all the emotions and situations that come with playing in a tournament.

I honestly seek to always portrait in my images the things I support, and these young boys were not the exception. They were truly talented and full of hope, energy and the desire of gaining another victory. The attitude of these little ones definitely challenged me and for that I am thankful. It makes me realize that we need to keep that smile on our faces and scream really loud when we score goals in the game of our lives.

Oh these fun little boys .. i hope they achieve their dreams and what their hearts desire..

life is simple.

Una de las razones por las que me enamoré de las fotografías, es por la capacidad que tienen de traer los recuerdos al presente y poder sentirlos de nuevo. Hay momentos que quisieras repetir, una y otra vez. Y gracias a las fotografías, podemos transportarnos por un momento a ESE momento.

ESE momento, hoy día, es Fortaleza, Brasil en el año 2011. Suena como si hubiese sido hace mucho, o tal vez no, pero fueron días únicos. Todas las mañanas despertaba rodeada de niñas, listas para jugar con mi cabello y salir corriendo de "mi casa" para disfrutar un día más juntas. Los días consistían en juegos, trabajo, y las noches de "descanso", pero nunca dormíamos temprano. Aquellos fueron días, en los que vivimos una vida simple, la ropa no importaba y a veces ni usábamos zapatos porque preferíamos sentir la lluvia. Si .. todo era muy divertido. Ni siquiera había llevado mi "buena" cámara, solo una compacta. Ni siquiera me dedique a tomar fotos, sino a disfrutar de la amistad de mis pequeñas amigas. Claro está, que a veces si era necesario documentar los momentos.

Simplemente, fueron días lindos, en los que pude compartir y recibir del amor de Dios. Y .. como me gustaría estar ahí, ahorita mismo...

One of the reasons i feel in love with photographs, is for their ability of bringing memories to the present, giving us the chance to feel them again. There are moments that I wish i could repeat over and over again. And thanks to photographs, we can travel for a little to THAT moment.

THAT moment, today is Fortaleza, Brasil in 2011. Sounds like it was a long time ago, or maybe not but these were unique days. Every morning i would wake up surrounded by little girls, ready to play with my hair and leave "my house" quickly, to enjoy another day together. Our days consisted of games, work and our nights to "rest", though we never went to bed early. Those were days, in which we lived the simple life, we didn't care about clothes and sometimes we didn't even use shoes because we would rather feel the rain. Yes .. everything was fun. I haven't even taken my "good" camera, just a compact one. I didn't even focus in taking pictures, it was rather about enjoying the friendship of my little friends. Though, it is obvious that some moments needed to be documented.

They were just great days, in which i was able to share and receive the love of God. And .. how i wish i could be there, right now.

Crecer como photo taker es crear nuevas historias que transmitan emociones e ideas, es abrir bien los ojos y mirar alrededor, es pensar en todas esas veces que quisiste decir algo y no sabias cómo hacerlo.

Así surgió la idea de mostrar, una vez más, la admiración que siento por mi hermano. Cuatro años atrás, Jorge sufrió un accidente que cambió su vida y la de toda mi familia, pero para bien. Si, las situaciones así son difíciles pero todos los días debes superarlas para poder continuar con tus metas, y esto es lo que él hace todas las mañanas. Tiene solo 24 años y ya es un profesional muy exitoso. Tómense unos minutos, disfruten los detalles, y siéntanse orgullosos de este gran joven, mi hermano.

To grow as a photo taker is to create new stories that are able to pass on emotions and ideas, is to open the eyes and look around, is to think in all those times when you wanted to say something and you didn't know how to do it.

This is how, once again, the idea of wanting to show the true admiration i have for my brother began. Four years ago, Jorge had an accident that changed his and all of our lives as a family, but for good. Yes, situations like this are difficult but you have to overcome them in order to keep fighting for your goals, and this is what He does every morning. He is only 24 and already a very successful professional. Take a few minutes, enjoy the details, and feel proud of this young man, mi brother.

- un radiante sol de invierno, 11am-

Lima es conocida por ser fría, húmeda y triste durante todo el invierno. No siempre con las mejores condiciones de luz para las fotos, no siempre con el mejor clima para ir afuera. Entonces decidimos ir en busca de los rayos del sol.

Simon & Ma. Grazia. de Peru, de Francia, no hay distancia.

Me encanta. Me encanta encontrar personas que pasen por la misma situación que uno y crean en lo mismo. En un mes veré a mi novio, quien vive a miles de kilómetros de aquí, pero aún así hemos logrado permanecer juntos todo este tiempo. Lo mismo sucede con Maria Grace (se llama Maria Grazia, pero yo la llamo así :) ), luego de unos 4 o 5 meses, Simón volvió de Francia para reencontrarse. ¡¡Me alegró tanto verla con el de nuevo y más aún que me pidieran hacer una sesión con ellos!!

Fuimos en busca del sol, y mientras veía como interactuaban, como conversaban, no dejaba de pensar en lo lindo que es encontrar alguien que está comprometido contigo de corazón y pone de lado el problema de la distancia. Pensaba en mi propio caso y como en todas mis sesiones, me pregunté: ¿qué fotos me gustaría tener yo de un momento así?

Entre risas, poses y momento anecdóticos pasamos la linda mañana en la que encontramos el sol.

Lima is known for being grey, cold, humid and sad all winter long. Not always the best light for pictures, not always the best weather to go outside. So we left and look for sunshine.

Simon & Ma. Grazia. from Peru, from France, there is no distance.
I love it. I just love to find people that go through similar situations and believe the same you do. In a month i will see my boyfriend, who lives thousands of miles away from here, and yet we have remained together all this time. The same happens to Maria Grace (her real name is Maria Grazia :)), after 4 or 5 months of not seeing him, Simon came back to be together. I was so happy to see them reunited and even more after they asked me to do their photo shoot!!

We went after the sun, and while they interacted with each other, i couldn't help but think about how wonderful it is to have someone who is committed wholeheartedly to you and is able to put aside the problem of distance. I was thinking about my own case, and as i do in every photo shoot, i asked myself: what kind of pictures would i like to have from a moment like this?

Between laughter, poses, and unforgettable moments we spent that pretty morning when we found the sun.

let's be honest. to love someone is hard.
to love someone means to give of your time, to be selfless and effort from both sides.
but it is beautiful to love and be loved.
every couple has their own story, i have my own.
but we all share one thing : we struggle.
but we also get up, we face difficulties and defeat them
why?
because we chose to love that person no matter what.

and when i have the privilege to capture love, that is what i see : real people sharing a real love.
not a fairy tale, not a hollywood movie kind of love.
but a real love

today. let's celebrate love.

seamos honestos. amar a una persona es difícil.
amar a alguien significa dar de tu tiempo, no ser egoísta y mucho esfuerzo por parte de los dos.
pero es hermoso amar y ser amado.
cada pareja tiene su historia, yo tengo la mía.
pero todas compartimos algo: tenemos dificultades.
pero también nos ponemos de pie, las enfrentamos y las vencemos.
¿por qué?
porque escogimos amar a esa persona sin importar lo que pase.

y cuando tengo el privilegio de capturar el amor, eso es lo que veo: personas reales compartiendo un amor real.
no un amor al estilo de los cuentos de hada o hollywood.

- calles & paredes, 3.30pm-

Nos subimos a su camioneta, y la conversación comenzó como si no hubiesen pasado 5 meses desde la última vez que nos vimos. Me preguntaron muchas cosas, y todo el trayecto hacia nuestra locación, la pasamos riendo y compartiendo opiniones.

Carlos & Vera. 10 años juntos, 2 hijos, muy graciosos.

Dentro de poco serán dos años desde que conocí a Vera y a Carlos. Vera me llamó, dijo que quería fotos lindas con su familia y coordinamos día y hora, y listo. Desde el primer día que los conocí, nos reímos tanto como lo hacemos cada vez que nos vemos. Mi Nikon, ya los quiere, y cada aventura fotográfica con ellos es muy especial.

POR ESTO TOMO FOTOS, porque me gusta conocer a las personas, las características de su personalidad y poder retratarla en mis imágenes. Me gusta tener amigos, y no llamarlos clientes. Me gusta celebrar con ellos alegrías y tomarme el tiempo de entender como son sus dinámicas familiares o entre pareja. Claro, toma tiempo, pero me encanta.

Además, valoro mucho el esfuerzo de personas como Vera y Carlos, de perseverar conmigo y mejorar cada día más nuestra amistad. Fue por esta razón, que para reconocer su fidelidad y la confianza que han depositado, en esta joven photo-taker, les obsequié una aventura diferente. Entonces, nos aventuramos una vez más con mi cámara, y decidimos que esta vez solo serían ellos dos, para recordar diez lindos años de casados.

¡Feliz Aniversario, Carlos & Vera :) ! Y muchas gracias.

We got in their car, and the conversation started like if it has not been 5 months since the last time we saw each other. They asked me many things, throughout our way to our location, we shared laughter and opinions.

Carlos & Vera. 10 years together, 2 kids, very funny.

Very soon it will be two years since i first met Vera & Carlos. Vera called me, said she wanted pretty pictures with her family, we set a date and time, and done. From the very first day we met, we laughed as much as we do every time we hang out. My Nikon loves them, and every photographic adventure with them is very special.

THIS IS WHY i take pictures, because i like to get to know people, the characteristics of their personality and portrair that on my images. I like having friends, and not call them clients. I like to celebrate with them their joyful moments and to take time to understand their family dynamics and the ones between the couples. Yes, it takes time, but i still love it.

In addition, i appreciate a lot the effort of persons like Vera & Carlos, whom chose to persevere with me and our friendship. For this reason, in order to recognize their faithfulness and the trust they have given to this young lady photo-taker, i gave them a gift, a different adventure. So off we went, we venture ourselves with my camera, once again. This time, just the two of them, to remember their pretty sweet 10 years of marriage.

Agatha. personalidad única, flores, lentes

Me llamó temprano para preguntar que traer, y se nos ocurrió incluir el uniforme. Claro, por qué no si había sido su fiel compañero durante sus días escolares. Fue así como comenzó la aventura para documentar la personalidad de una Agatha de 5to año.

Llegó a mi casa, y comenzamos con las tomas. Mientras documentaba muecas y sonrisas, recordaba mis épocas escolares. Al mismo tiempo me ponía a pensar en como me hubiese gustado tener lindas fotos de aquellas épocas. Sí, fue uno de esos momentos en los que me lamenté saber nada de fotografía jaja.

Luego nos dimos cuenta que había que aprovechar un poco el sol. Agatha sacó su vestido floreado, el que sin querer, combinaría perfecto con el parque que tenía en mente.

Y así fue, llegamos justo a tiempo para disfrutar los últimos rayos del sol y conseguir unas lindas imágenes.

El año recién empieza para ella, y vendrán muchas memorias de este año en el que "SON PROMO"; pero estas fotografías serán los documentos que le ayudarán a nunca olvidar :) .

Agatha. unique personality, flowers, glasses.

She called early to ask what to bring along, and we decided to include her uniform. Of course, why not if it is has been her faithful friend during all her high school years. And this is how the adventure of documenting an Agatha in her Senior year began.

She arrived at my house and the photo shoot started. While i was documenting smiles and silly faces, i was remembering my high school years and at the same time, regretting not having good pictures taken back in those days. Yes, it was one of those moments in which i wished i knew more than nothing about photography haha.

We then realized the need of taking advantage of the little of sun that was left outside. Agatha pulled out a dress full of flowers, which made the perfect combination with the park i had in mind.

And thats how we did it. We got there just on time for the last rays of sun and got pretty images.

The school year just started for her, and many other memories will come along during this her SENIOR YEAR, but these pictures will be the documents that will help her to never forget :).
