Sometimes you go into a shooting lull. It's happened to me in the past but i don't think to this degree. I'm starting too feel more motivated and in fact have a thanksgiving trip approaching where i hope to reengage. Until then please continue to enjoy (perhaps not the right word at this point) some more outtakes from this spring.

I had a little accident a few weeks ago that left me with 2 broken arms. Seems i got into an argument with a car. He thought he was allowed to drive through the cross-walk while i was riding through it. Long story short - i lost and am now mending. It's not really as bad as it sounds as i'm mostly able to use both of my hands but it's kind of a bummer.

I went out last night and bought a new set of handlebars and converted my grocery bike into a cruiser style grocery bike. We'll see how that goes...

I've got a couple of more images from this series to post and then i'm going to have to go to back the well of unprocessed film. I'm not sure how the processing is going to go with a cast on one of my arms... but i'd rather the cast smell like developer than old wet socks (which is what it smells like right now).

There's a shop not too far away from me that'll run my film for a few bucks a roll. It's tempting but to date i'm run all the film for this site in my kitchen and i don't really want to break that streak because of a couple of broken bones..

I hope your not getting too bored of looking at the Merced! I'm getting down to the end here and will have to run a bunch of film soon. Some focus was lost over the summer - it should return here in the next few weeks.

Servus.

El Capitan and the Merced River

We spent this past weekend in Yosemite and the river certainly didn't flow like it did back in May when this picture was taken. The Merced was mostly idle and rather shallow. The only waterfall that showed even a wisp of water was Bridalveil Falls (see previous image).

Up near Glacier Point there was no sign of moisture at all, but up in Tuolumne Meadows where we spent most of our time it was business as usual. Water was streaming down the rocks near Tuolumne Meadows Lodge flowing on to the Tuolumne River. Tenaya Lake, and the many other lakes we saw for that matter were full and clear.

Overall the weekend was fantastic even though my car still smells like the Mono Lake muck I covered the inside of it with.

This picture is kind of busy. At first it didn't really do it for me, but after looking at it a few times i grew to like it. Usually I don't use a long lens for the obfuscation factor but here i did.

It started out innocently enough. The sun was shining directly in my eyes (read: the camera's lens). But after a few minutes the sun moved a little in one direction, i moved a little in the other and eventually this happened.

I've been absent for a while, sorry about that. I've been trying to figure out my next project and am coming up short. I think i might try to do one of the other ideas I had for my SoFoBoMo project. There are 2 or 3 others I really liked but one that I would have tried had my schedule permitted.

This is one more from the Bridalveil runoff series. I still have a few more images left from my book project. I'll try to be a little more consistent about posting them.

Merced River: Surging Water

There are places that you can stand along the banks of the river where the trees and rocks can't obscure your view of the river. If you ignore your peripheral vision and focus on what's right in front of you the flowing river can take on new and different forms. This is what I tend to do when i'm shooting pictures. Sometimes I see the image right away, sometimes I have to stare it at a while until it takes form in my head.

I tried to do the latter a lot while I was making the images for this book. This image is one of the more abstract that I made in those few sessions. I was trying to capture the power and range of the river in single square frames.
